    when this technique fails as it does several times in this demo the attacker is still holding the knife & wont be holding it out for you to try again

    Yeah, given you have to do this thing, you may as well learn as many ways of doing it as possible, as it could come in handy. But, as a primary empty hand response to a knife, I only go straight in and take the guys balance. I never try to mess around with his knife/knife hand perse. I get past it and go straight for his balance and control that arm, and break that arm and attack everything else I can, but only if that arm is controlled and that knife disabled from his control.

    I like this... a lot. The pressure on the leading edge of the knife is something that a random attacker might not be able to compensate for while he/she is slapped on the wrist, and because of the open palm strike the worst wound you might come out with (if done properly) is a shallow slice across or a prick in the palm. Personally, it's a very effective way to disarm a knife attacker.

    Shihan (師範 ?) is a Japanese term, often used in Japanese martial arts as an honorific title for expert or senior instructors. The term is frequently used interchangeably with English terms such as "master instructor".

    wouldn't it be safer to keep contact with the wrist once you've made the cross block and then go for the lock or whatever after your already in control of it?
    That is one method but my approach here is to create an shocking affect to hopefully disarm your opponent,following up with securing the wrist.This is just one of many defensive methods to achieve your objective,thanks for input.

    @riggs169 For a former practitioner of different martials and ninjutsu, I understand what you mean. But for purpose of demonstration it is done so that you understand the movement that needs to be done to disarm your attacker. But in a real situation you'll have to be fast else you'll die. Notice the stance he take when facing an opponent with a knife. He prepares a kind of gap to allow for the guy to come in, and then one step retreat to avoid and counter attack.

    Real Ninja and for Hollywood phases are just empty rhetoric to me,you're entitle to your own opinion but what your track record I know mines.I'm not affected by opinions base on someone else's perception and someone on the outside looking in.When the techniques I have been taught and teach have been proven in real live combat,by myself and my students,to which its own.Survival of the streets I come is its own testimony to truth of combat,but thanks for input.Teach with wisdom not from ignorance.

    It would actually be safer to do these moves against a gun than knife.

    Does this criss crossing appying slapping of the knife hand to disarm really works if someone is thrusting the knife attack really FAST

    As you know there are hundreds of methods to repel attacks, as there are attacks.This is just a variety of application that exist.Remember, when you are in combat,everything doesn't always go according to how you plan your response,just realize there is never one way of doing anything.Thank for the input,PEACE!

    @mtgdustin True, no one will stand and let you "slap em around"...but one thing is to be noted from this...In a real life situation when someone is hell bent on putting all their body into one attack and you evade it there is a sort of "pause" and re-group. I have experienced it before.

  • @wenaolong

    You know what, this will NOT work!! If you try to do that to a serious attacker wielding a knife, you can say goodbye to those fancy hands!!! It just won't work at all, and you'll wish you'd not tried it. Better to stay the heck away from a knife-wielder!! "if you have to", don't let your hands get anywhere NEAR his knife until his arm is fully controlled, and even then you are still probably going to get cut SOMEWHERE, but at least your hands can do what they must, though not with this move..

    It started off with potential but went positively Substandard by the end! 02:22 oops Butter Fingers! It is easy to look good (not in this case) when you know that your attacker will stop at the end of there Technique, overall,l not impressed I guess "Shihan" has a different meaning in the USA.

    The most effective technic against a knife attack is kicking to the balls of the attacker, but this is only if you cant run.

  • @Maniacforce1
    @Maniacforce1 12 лет назад

    Tenho uma dúvida, essa tecnica somente funciona se o oponente estiver apenas ameaçando com a faca parada, se ele for realmente com a intenção de furar ele não vai parar e por mais que ele seja destreinado o movimento sera rapido tornando este desarme impossivel

  • @Maniacforce1
    @Maniacforce1 12 лет назад +1

    I have a question, this technique only works if the opponent is just threatening with the knife still, if he is really with the intention of sticking it will not stop and the harder he is untrained movement will be fast making it impossible to disarm...

      Real knifers do not hold a knife as most schools have them do in demos. The blade is at the bottom end of the hand, the cutting edge facing outward, close to the wrist. The knifer can punch, knife to his rear, and more. And try to use those cute disarming techniques, when you cannot grab the write without being cut. A knifer with any skills prefers the simple *gran and stab*., not a thrust.

    Why is it that many of you bujinkan people are so damn arrogant?! Its a demonstration,I mean come on. I guess humility and respect has no place among students of the bujinkan. Im not impressed with your stuff either.
