@@GMitchell2012why would Donnie need a substitute? Especially in that moment. There are more difficult and risky moments where you can clearly see him. He is the real deal.
If there's one thing I truly appreciate about Donnie Yen's acting is that he doesn't try to over do FACIAL EXPRESSIONS in an attempt to sell an emotion to the audience. Subtle. Calm. Nuanced. Even during painful or sad scenes...it's still just a pinch of the right expression.
First time I saw this movie I was blown away by Donnie Yen’s incredible acting and martial arts skills. His powerful presence was just what made the movie great.

@@justinwill1163 But it's what I said in my answer. Thanks to Bruce Lee who knows Muhammad Ali in the 70's. A friendly match between him and Ip Man could have happened.
I think across all 4 movies, the most emotional Ip Man shows in any of these fights is against the 10 Japanese fighters. Most of his other fights are in defense of others or in defense of honor, but in that fight, he literally just wanted to hurt some fools after seeing a friend get killed. That fight was pure vengeance and it was AMAZING! I also really love the part in the fight with the general where Ip starts working him like the practice dummy.

I recognise this style its mostly Wing Chun Kung Fu, a style originating from the Shaolin Monks in China. I studied for 2 years under a master who studied in China. Wing Chun is best for close combat and has a fluidity of movement and is more about mental focus, balance and deflecting and re-directing energy/force from your opponent so is more defensive than offensive. The principle is to use the least amount of movement, effort and force to disable an opponent. It's paradoxically one of the least harmful martial arts if used correctly with restraint but also probably the most deadliest and easy to kill someone with a few moves. It's particularly good for dealing with non-martial art opponents where you can avoid a punch and easily get out of grip or lock by twisting your opponents thumb or fingers or wrist and arm causing extreme pain. Slight kicks to back of knee to take someone off balance or cause their legs to fall under them, whilst holding their hand and arm in a painful grip twist. Use of elbow into chest, ribs, or neck. A lot of the style depends on moving your body which is kept in a good slightly low center of balance feet apart so you can turn your upper body and head back and to side away from punches. A punch is typically with the first positioned vertically and done very close to the opponent. Open hand style is used a lot too on neck, or chest like a blade strike or an open-handed lower hand strike into chest. What is fascinating about Wing Chun style is the fluid flow of movement and the hand and arm postures which mimic animals like chicken/bird wings and insects like praying mantis. It is really much more than a physical martial art practice and combines a spiritual practice for some with mental training and meditation focusing on breathing to develop and use 'Chi' energy. Wing Chun at advanced level requires a harderning of the body and developing a tolerance to pain and strengthening of the muscles which requires hitting wood but is not absolutely necessary. Because Wing Chun doesn't require a lot of strength or agility, it's ideal for women and guys lacking a muscular physique. It's very effective against even an opponent twice your size and strength as you use their energy and strength against them, or it works against them and to your advantage.
