Wow first comment
I'm optimistic that there will always be good games. I am pessimistic, however, about AAA. We have Fromsoftware, and that's about it.
Some Games are full of quality like Ravenswatch and some are just the absoute minimum and still selling like Mirrage. Nothing changes..its just name switches...Blizzard will go down more over time, but someone will replace, if u watch the market u realize fast, theres only that ONE playerbase. Thats why u cant bring out 2 similar games at the same time...
@GoingIndie I have a question what are you thought on Warhammer games like vermintide 2, darktide and total war Warhammer series? I hope you respond.

The "right to monetize" is absolutely spot on! Gamers don't hate monetization. They hate boring suck and dry your wallet games.
People are willing to buy your micro transactions if it's worth the money. It's as simple as that. If the Witcher dlc came out today and was priced the same amount as compared to the base game, then people still wouldn't complain because of how much content they are getting
@@lordlopikong6940 Or do what a whole lot of JRPG publishers do. Just make add-on's like funny hats, clothes, ride-along, background music, bath suits and so on. All stuff that does not influence the game play at all, but are just fun things (and mostly for prices like $0,99 or so). Some times they have a small expansion for a single character that includes a new area for cheap. But that's always a few months after the release of the (full) game.
In game monetization, however, is never OK with me. No matter what the circumstances. And that goes especially for single player games. Monetization does NOT belong in a game you payed full price for. That's unforgivable, period!
At around 5 minutes in you described the concept of enshitification.
The reason why this tactic will end up destroying gaming companies in particular (compared to companies like Netflix, or social media companies) is because of CHOICE. The barrier to making excellent video games is lower than ever. Gamers can see incredibly unique games made by small studios. They don’t HAVE to buy triple A games just like they HAVE to use Uber to take a trip or use RUclips to watch videos.
6:29 The developers of Fallout 1 were told that nobody would buy a Turn Based Combat game and they should give up on the game.
I dread the day turn based combat becomes mainstream. It loses its niche and everyone will cannibalize the other just like what happened with Battle Royale.
A glimpse of the worst aspects of turn based combat can be found in Pokèmon.
The developers of Diablo 1 were told that they should stop making a turn based game and make combat real time instead.
@@triadwarfare Anyone doing turn based should take a note from pokemon and add emulation style speed boosting/animation removal.
This aged slightly poorly. Sony is swinging their weight around to get PC players to make PSN accounts.
When accountants run studios, you get rushed buggy junk. If nerds run studios, you get Helldivers 2 and Baldurs Gate 3
If Indie is doing fine and AAA can make a comeback at the time, you know earnings are going to deflate hard.
?
These new developers also know people want games made by passionate and talented people not theseTalentless Penny pinching executives or virtue signaling Twitter activists or AI.

My brother, are you listening to yourself rn? You basically just said that a pioneer/standard setter of a genre is bad because it was the first of its kind. Wtf are you smoking?
@@lordlopikong6940 Doom was a great game though. It achieved most of its potential and is still an amazing game to this day. AC4 however is weighed down by a comically bad modern day sci-fi video game development nonsense plotline, really boring mission design, and technical limitations that result in an open world fractured by loading screens. Feel free to look past these issues and enjoy AC4, but don't pretend that AC4 has the same level of polish that Doom had.

After a lot of time away from gaming, Dead Cells, an indie reference, recaptured my love for gaming and showed me so many other indies (Hollow Knight, the Klei games, so on).
However, it was Zelda: BotW that really got my full love and attention. I’d never played a Zelda before, and was blown away. Here it was a game that could only be done by an AAA studio, due to its sheer size, but it was amazing.
AAA and indies can and should co-exist.
Seeing my favourite game get featured as a example of how bad the industry fells sad
Arrowhead (the Helldivers 2 controversy is on Sony) and Liarian are where Ubisoft and 2K, EA etc was in 2008. And smaller AA's and indies are bringing back the originality, joy and innovation from the PS2 era with better graphics and quality of life improvements.

Damn I wasn't ready for the mustache. Great channel
I don't think triple AAA games are making a comeback.
More like, indie games and AA games (with online mode) are taking over the entire triple AAA industry.
Nintendo on the other hand of the side is a little bit different than any other triple AAA games.
I know, Nintendo has a elephant in the room.
While Nintendo has greedy similarities to Disney and the other triple AAA companies, thank God the games that Nintendo makes is nowhere near hot garbage as Disney and the other triple AAA companies.
God, I hope the developers of Nintendo (including the developers of Splatoon) decides to start making awesome games again without any deadlines like how they did with Super Mario Brothers Wonder.
Speaking of "Indie game", thank God, I'm becoming a indie game developer, and I can't wait to start making awesome, bad-ass/edgy games in the future!
Triple AAA? So ninefold A? 😜

Even the county sheriffs are jealous
I usually trust Sony and Nintendo's AAA releases, but both have their fare share of misses. Take-Two and Capcom are the only 3rd party ones that I feel gives consistent quality, alongside a few individual studios like FromSoft and Larian.
That is if you put Pokemon and MLB the show aside.
Did you forget about Rockstar?
(Not the 3D trilogy defective edition because technically they didn't make it.)

This is awesome how going indie is doing well and AAA is making a come back and this gives me hope that we are going back to the good days of games being amazing again and great video Going Indie :]
The clip about sales and marketing taking over really does sum it up.
When I was first considering helldivers I thought it would be repetitive and might get old but I was so wrong. I’ve been working on the Turing liberation for a day or two and it’s just three of the same missions. But they all seemed unique and every little detail, from players to enemy spawns made the experience better
I hope Kingmakers is gonna be great like that to, from the trailer it looks absolutely insane but I learned to never trust a trailer
Live service games, check out Genshin Impact. Been going for 4 years and as players we know it will be up for many more years. Every month new lands, quests, items, etc. It all ties back into the original QUEST we started with 4 years ago... find your lost sibling. Millions of players across multiple platforms. Lovable and charming NPCs, constant lore drops that fit in and expand on the world and your characters place in it.
Ive put in 2600 hours over 3 years.
You know this video was used to be called "a new type of triple a developer/companies"
how AAA games can make a comeback?
- MAKE GAMES FOR GAMERS NOT STAKEHOLDERS
- dont push political agenda in game narrative
- hire a good community manager and not dime a dozen political driven activist
- listen to community and fans feedback for future updates and improvement
- stop predatory micro transaction and other deceiving monetization
the fact is AAA games never actually gone, game devs from japan and korea constantly making good games that makes profit and stay relevant because they never abandoned their core value and treat fans respectfully.
That didn't age well with Take-Two's recent firings.
idk about japanese devs getting profit after profit cuz square enix is out here with these underperforming ff games lol
Bro had to change the thumbnail after the Helldivers 2 trainwreck XD
Whats sad is it seems the publishers of bg3 and helldivers seem set in crushing their own games. Larian jumped ship after feeling smothered and sony cut out a bunch of countries after the ratings tanked due to trying to get more ps accounts. They say they listen but then turn around and shoot themselves in the foot and accuse gamers did this.
And the new assassins creed is being dunked on. They don't seem to learn, just gotta stick to the formula thats causing them to tank and demanding more money.
This channel is tremendous
You know that saying: Out with old and in with new
Yep it’s exactly what I’ve been predicting, it’s time for the renaissance of games!
Just like Steve Job said 4:10 . AAA games nowadays made by share holders who only know how to pointing stick and thinking of money. They are so out of touch with their audience. There should be a system that put those in control. Game design should be made by people who have heart not the people who only think of money before the game.
Take-Two's recent firings are a good representation of that yeah...
"skull and bones sounds about as bland as white bread."
I feel attacked, i love white bread
(please note, i am not saying i like skull and bones)
This is probably why Ubisoft was so insistent that you don't own your games anymore. Their old games are competing against their new ones. This is probably why they wanted to shut down The Crew as a first step.
Well ubisoft is ok because skull and bones is quadruple A lol
I didn't enjoy BG3 at all but I understand why it could have an impact on the gaming industry.
Rockstar, fromsoftware..these are the companies hype worthy
Can’t wait for shadow of the erdtree and whatever their next title is. (It’s probably gonna be another standalone like bloodborne, which is a really unique game so I’m very excited for that)
I like to feel optimistic over indies and AA, however we must also remember that all of these people are still human and capable of committing the same mistakes as the AAAs. Remember that the AAAs of today were the indies if the past. A great example to how we should all remain skeptical and wary of the AA and indies is games like A Plague Tale Requiem, a boring and poorly written sequel to a great game that was charged for fifty dollars (without considering the useless cosmetic pack) and came out in a buggy state upon release. A sequel that sacrificed everything that made the first game special, nuanced, fun and lovable in pursuit of a more commercial, movie like AAA style. Ten, twenty years from now Asobo Studio will be in the exact same spot as Naughty Dogs today, and Larian Studio will be the next EA. Mark my words.
well, this aged badly
How so?
??
Huh? Please elaborate…
Popular games and AAA are not the same. Helldivers is popular though.
What i like about new games coming from indie studios is the diversity honestly almost every game coming from the likes of Ubisoft, Ea, Blizzard and bathesda and more to me are the same you either have a plain old shooter or a stale fighter.
Indie studios do things differently to spice it up so that they can build a fanbase i've been recently hooked on the finals fps with different abilities with gamemodes that fit the whole idea of the game if blizzard were to make the finals it would be just like overwatch very little room for movement and intriguing gameplay just plain walk shoot.
And this may sound very negative but i hope they continue pushing up garbage in our faces and we stop buying so they keep losing money and maybe they may realize their mistake.
Chasing repeated revenue in an art driven industry has always seemed so silly to me. I'm glad there's still companies making good products not bad services.
the funny part is that Baudurs gate 3 is technically indi (independent) since is made by larian studios
This video aged badly :P
This comment aged badly =P
So in order to make a good game you need to let the devs make the games they want. Who knew!?
triple-i!
I just want to thank you scinse alot of videos liek this are just complaining and going on a tangent where as you put a great message on it.
For every Baldur’s Gate 3 there’s at least 5 really bad indie games (cringe simulator stuff, early access that stays in early access forever, etc.). AAA games are more like big blockbuster movies; they may not always get the best reviews, but because they tend to be more mainstream, I usually have a better idea of whether or not I want to fork over my twenties to play any given one.
We making a comeback
I wouldn’t call Larian a “new” studio, it was founded 28 years ago. Great video though 👍
The idea is that Larian (and other studios making great modern games) is maturing into the new era of AAA developers. Not that the studio itself is new 👍
While it really does feel like the old dogs of AAA studios have given the space for the new AAA generation, some of the older companies keep on delivering on high quality big budget games.
SE has recently released Final Fantasy VII Rebirth which feels like has dropped under the radar in the wider gaming community outside of the designated communities. In a time when AAA call their games AAAA and focus on cash shops and live service first - fun and gameplay later, SE has been consistently giving out high quality games while still retaining the identity and fun aspects of the titles they release. FF7R feels like a behemoth of a title with a lot of content which consistently freshens up the experience and doesn't feel repetitive, and the most important aspect - It's always adding new mechanics FROM START TO FINISH. The amount of content which can actually be delivered separately in a nice DLC package by standards of some other companies - Here it just doesn't happen!
The game retains the classic feeling of a complete experience, no DLCs, no P2W paywalls, no cashgrabs.
Same thing can be said about 2023's FF16 - While it's a more linear experience, it's a closed story and a straightforward game, which recently has had its last DLC released. Both DLCs for this game are by no means a detriment for the base game, but they add enough new content to extend the players' enjoyment in the title and give the ability to re-experience the title in a new way in the fun gameplay sense, and some added lore which adds more to the intrigue of the world building.
Even some of SEs AA titles which cater to way smaller audiences in the SRPG (Triangle Strategy), dungeon crawler (Dungeon Encounters) and JRPG/ARPG (Octopath Traveler duology/ NEO: The World Ends With You) genres have the level of polish and care that other AAA studios do no want to provide. But the titles suffer from either little exposure or not enough marketing (I'm not knowledgeable enough) which really hurts the games and the company in the long run.
I really hope KCD2 does not disappoint me. KDC1 was sooo good.
What make these Indie/AA studios so successful? The same thing those AAA studios made in the past. Good old fun experiences.
If you make a product, then it needs to sell. If you make a good game, then people will come and buy.
The new wave is riding the old one now.
AAA games will make a comeback, but it ain't comming from the old AAA companies(blizzard, Activision, Microsoft, etc etc
Skull and Bones is AAAA
what was the game at 7min before the one which looks like Minecraft?
Im just sticking to indie / Double A games now. not got no interest in a game that wants me to pay 150 for a single dlc mission and even then theres a chance in 10 years they might just take the game away from me when it stops being worth keeping the servers up to them.
AAA is so 2022. We want AAAA
But we got AAAAAAAAAAHHH

I love and miss gaming up until the 360 era so much. The 90's-00's is pretty much peak gaming. Timeless games don't need hyper realistic graphics. Some of the best games have unique art styles, unique damage effects, smaller more interactive environments, destructible objects, physics like effects or funny cartoonish or absurd type of effects. Anytime i say this someone in the comments always says: "umm well we have indie games" but my point is we need this kind of game selection on CONSOLES as well. PC's have steam & tons of access to a unique library of creative projects. Look at the Game Library of the most recent game consoles? Now look at previous generation consoles? There's no competition. It's not even close to the PS2, N64, PS1, Xbox, GameCube, Dreamcast, 360, PS3, etc.
If game devs & game companies realize they are wasting such insane amounts of $ & time to make a game that still runs so terribly (no matter if u have the best PC possible. Which proves it's how these games were made. Not the tech hardware needing a upgrade. I bet we haven't even come close to pushing modern hardware to it's limits yet) *So if devs & companies can see it might not take so long to make a game, not cost so much money to make EACH GAME. Give these things a chance to prove they are capable of being timeless. Hopefully we see a resurgence of pure nerdy passion & focus from devs if they are allowed to just focus on smaller passion projects. Especially with today's technological advancements. Previous games should still inspire newer games no matter how far into the future we go. We shouldn't leave those unique aspects of gaming in the past. Hopefully the struggles of the modern day triple AAA games will organically shift change back towards a better direction. I just worry about the gaming industry being at a certain point where people who are severely out of touch with the core gaming community are the ones that are making the most decisions and forcing devs to do things they completely don't want to do because they know it's a bad idea.. I wish we didn't have so many game companies get bought out. I miss when a game was a project worked on by a group of passionate people who decided they wanted to create this passion project.. Now it's like a popular underground band getting bought out by a mega Corp and now they have full say in the way they play music and when they play music and what they say in their music.. I hope gaming snaps out of this dark chapter and they find their roots they left in the wake of the Y2K era..
Star Wars Outlaws is the perfect example of how these big companies care more for the monetization than the quality of the product they're delivering to their clients, and I hope they suffer for it.
Suffer ? While the loud outcry and people are whining they are STILL BUYING !!!!
Diablo immortal is called a HUGE FAILURE, did ya check the money ? it was a huge MONEY SUCCESS !!!
I am not optimistic about the future of this channel...
Someone needs to explain games like Helldivers to me. It's essentially doing the same thing over and over again. How is that fun for more than an afternoon?
At this point i really couldn't care less about big corps and their soulless products. Even if they "make a comeback". Every now n' then an actual video game will drop and even more rarely will it be amazing. That's reality. Case closed. I'm not gonna join the quality starved hooligans waiting for another shooting star. I have my Nintendo and i have my indie games
I couldn't wait till he get to the point.
How is Nintendo viewed in this situation. Is it changing the norm or is it like the other AAA companies? In my personal opinion, I think it’s changing the norm a little but what do you guys think?
Bro an odst similar to helldivers would’ve been the shit 😢
If AAA games are revived, can we leave ubisoft out of the new industry?

I never played either game.
Can confirm, I would rather play Black Flag.
I don't want to play a pirate game where I AM tge ship and I fire a FIREWORK KATYSHA.
Helldivers 2 is now ruined by Sony.
Triple a will always be crap by definition. Corporations are always going to take great studios and exploit them for profits Andy gamers are always a couple years behind the curve. Look at blizzard. They haven't made a good game since Diablo 2 but it wasn't until overwatch 2 that people realized I.
Hell divers says hi
I don't agree with the example of Sea of Thieves vs Scull and Bones. SoT was received way, way worse on release than S&B was. It may be better now, 5 years later, but this is the issue of old, established games vs new ones. It's the same story as with any sequel of a strongly supported game. New version of Civilization are always seen as inferior in comparison with older one, for example, so this isn't a fair comparison.
Black Flag was seen as a low effort cash grab and proof that Ubisoft is out of ideas on release - a whole game based on a minigame from AC3. Black Flag was considered as a last nail in the Assassin's Creed coffin, because while AC3 made significant departure from the stealth roots of the series, Black Flag has almost none of them at all.
I agree with the premise of the video - there are plenty of AAA games that are good and popular. They just come from different companies than people are used to. You just should put more thought into examples you used.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

By AAA having a large crash that's how. As long as there's the same big wigs that keep ruining everything in the picture? The only AAAs that'll keep coming out are either remakes, mtx galores, rushed buggy garbage, or woke trash. The big companies nowadays only care about graphics nowadays they genuinely forgot how to make games fun. As for helldivers, its community manager debacle aside even if it is important, helldivers isn't even AAA, it's AA, and if it keeps going in the same direction it'll just follow AAA as these companies get bigger and their games go mainstream. I stand by my point that indies are where it's at now, plenty of indies that are fun to play, indies are the only part of industry left that bother trying new things and do something truly innovative and it's great when it works out.
Also yes, monetization is necessary, sure, but the only monetization for paid games there should be is buying game once, then selling expansions, and i'm talking actual expansions that expand game significantly, sidestories etc new content, instead of cutting up content that should've been in the game to begin with and selling it as a bunch of day1 dlcs or a month after release.
isn't Helldiver 2 the game that ended up in the controversial drama about their woke ideology and a waman speerheading the direction of the game? I think i'll pass.

Hi rez made the same game (paladin) and they added more content than blizzard ever could... and I don't like paladin either but it's an easy choice between the two.
Overwatch is indeed a fun game, way better than Paladins ever been
Still, decisions made by the higher ups on blizzard killed it.
Ive actually been pretty happy with OW2, especially the new season 9. You get 600 premium credits free from the BP, 1500+ normal ones too, the skins are getting better, hero patches and gameplay updates have been making the pure playing more fun. Yeah, it's still not better than some other shooters, but blizzard seems to be leaning back round to the original OW era now so much backlash is going around.

Ac mirage is dogshit wtf are you saying
This is not an indie revolution at all all AAA game companies used to be indie at one point this is just a new generation of gaming culture
