You just have to push through and tell yourself “it will get better”….and it does. Mine are 1.5 and 3 and sleep from 8pm-6:45am and it’s amazing finally sleeping all night!
Cosleep!! It changed my life lol, my baby has been sleeping a night since he was 3 months old. Of course while they are so young, put them in one of those small football beds but in your bed! Game changer
I have mixed feelings. He could do these videos without showing his child but he is choose to show us him and tell us his name. Because he knows it's lucrative in RUclips? I hope this trend won't be continuing. Kids deserve privacy!
Back in 2018, when I had my first child I started watching your channel to learn how to be more productive and balance my work and family. Now years later I see you doing that very thing for yourself! You are doing great! Never give up. 🤘🏻
Yes, acceptance! Acceptance helps you find things that work better, while giving you a way to feel gratitude and enjoyment in what you have ❤ everything changes with acceptance. You guys are amazing!
The advice at the end is true. 8 hours is not an option anymore, but looking into the eyes of my child and being able to hold your whole world in your arms makes it worth it. My wife is pregnant with number 2 and I wouldn't change it for anything, but yeah buy a coffee machine.
Don't worry guys ! It gets better 🌟 now even with a 1month old and a 2year old, most nights I get a 6 hour lap of sleep nights , first child is always the hardest on sleep deprivation 😅
@@HereDiianas well, not the first that I know of and definitely everything was find on his monthly checkup last week, he actually gained 1.4kg on a month, when you are breastfeeding on demand you are only supposed to wake them when they are underweight and only the first 6weeks, he is 7weeks so I would gladly let him sleep
Man I remember first watching about 5 years ago when i was just entering college, and now being senior dental student Time really flies. You really helped me forming strong mindset throughout the years. Much love and respect ❤❤🫡
A friend of mine hasn’t had a proper night sleep in the last 3 years, she’s having low tension issues, is taking anti antidepressants… it’s definitely taking its toll on her health. It’s definitely no joke ! I consider myself lucky compared to her !
We just had our first baby 6 days ago and this is great advice !! Thank you so much Matt! Btw your soothing voice in this video helped put our little Riley to sleep after being fussy for an hour 🙏
Really needed to see this as a mom of twin girls. My husband hallucinated about babyheads everywhere, at one point I thought he put a baby in my arms while I was asleep (turned out I was holding my pillow against me. Sadly, we couldn't split up, because we had 2 babies. I got a very bad postnatal depression and we reached out for help. Luckily the nicest people wanted to help out, even during nighttime. I hope your son will sleep through the nights in a while❤ he's so cute.
I was having a conversation with Nat the other night and she literally fell asleep while I was talking to her haha. Sorry you had such a difficult time. Glad you were able to get the support you needed.
I'm a twin mum too and I had loads of hallucinations too! I also found that I'd fall asleep everywhere and anywhere (attached to a pump in the middle of the night, on the toilet, etc).
So, I missed the whole “Matt became a dad” arc and definitely thought the baby in the thumbnail was a realistic mechanical doll that mimics babies, like the ones they give to high schoolers deter them from being teen parents.😅
The best thing you can do is to have additional help for the things that matter less than your baby. I worked as a live in nanny and it really helped. I watched the baby some of the time, I did baby dishes and washed clothes and walked the baby in her stroller to to art class. The baby loved art class and the fresh air. You don’t need a live in nanny, but some one to do dishes, clean the bathrooms, and wash laundry helps. Congratulations on your new baby.
I feel you, Matt. When my daughter was born, for the first 3 months, I lay flat on the hard floor with her sleeping on top of me as it was the only thing that worked. But it meant I got no sleep and had to stay perfectly still. Even with sleep training, it was nearly 2 years before things got to 'normal'. Best of luck.
I love that this is Matt's experience... because Nat's right. This is only half the battle of nursing mums! And I am SO pround of you two watching how you balance and support each other.
Im watching this past 1am while feeding a 2 week old. Having a baby is literal torture. On top of the sleep deprivation, as a mother, also add in the pain of physical recovery, and struggles of breastfeeding.
My son was born on exactly the same day as yours (judging by your sleep data) 😅 oddly enough we have the same exact sleep issues with him too. Watched this with my wife today and couldn’t help but smile knowing that we are not alone. Hang in there
Funny how life goes. Unsubscribed because content did not fit my dad life anymore. Now I subscribed because it's getting back into my world. Welcome to parent hood😊
Congrats for little Frankie and for becoming parents with Nathalie. A whole new adventure for you 3. I am really glad parenthood is now part of your content as I became a father too not long ago. I can’t wait to see the rest of your journey and experiments in this new reality. I am sure it will be refreshing and helpful.
It's funny to watch your dad content because it makes me feel like you're living with me :') I'm experiencing the exact same things at about the exact same time since I gave birth 4 months and 2 days ago! We've been having an extremely hard time with sleep since day 1. Same as you, for the first month, my son would not nap at all and when he finally started to, he had to be in our arms. We still need to carry him around for naps even though here and there he is okay sleeping in his bed. As for night time, I've had to wake up every 2 hours to breastfeed almost every night since he turned one month old. One thing we've recently decided to do to help with night time is to give him a bottle of formula before going to bed and it actually works ! From waking up every 2 hours to feed, he now only wakes up once. Life changing ! I know it can be hard for mums who breastfeed to accept formula and let go a little bit but if you can't find any other solution and Nat is ready to give it a go, I strongly recommend :)
Wow, what a production :). You are a master storyteller. Great humor, great rhythm. I was dying laughing. And at the same time a serious topic, solving a big problem... Thank you for this masterpiece :).
I was so nervous to watch this. I ended up taking off my fitness tracker when my first baby was an infant because I was stressed out by the horrible sleep graphs! Now I’m 4 months pregnant with number 2 and I am freaking anxious about the upcoming struggle.
It gets better Matt! The first 4 months were the hardest for me. Month 3, I felt like I was going to cry. We did Taking Cara Babies, and it made everything a bit better. My son is now 3 1/2 and he's a great sleeper. My sleep is better than ever. I know not all kids sleep though the night, but it does 100% get easier with time.
I really undervalued the importance of a good night sleep. As I'm watching this video I slept 7h , worked out and ate a healthy meal and I'm truly feeling super energised. Hopefully you and nat can find more time to rest. Thanks for this video
My husband and I worked out a schedule that helped us both. He went to bed early while I stayed up with our baby for the last feeding and put him into the crib. Then around midnight my husband woke up and gave the baby a bottle. I slept through until 4 am for a feeding. I fell back to sleep for a few hours after that so we both got about 8 hours of sleep.
I’m a mom of four! For us the first year is the hardest- with good sleep routines all four of my kids sleep in their beds all night. Sending hugs as u navigate the hardest part!
Matt we became first time parents in february and you hit the nail on the head - life is different now. Sleep training was the biggeat hack for us. In less than a week we had a 5 month old that could sleep 10hrs straight. Going on 8 months old nothing has changed!
To be honest, our daughter just turned 1 last week and acceptance of the chaos is sometimes still a struggle 😂. Nights get better though, we easily have 7 hours of sleep with just one "interruption". Hang in there!😊❤
That was fun! Thank you for making such a heavy topic light. I have one year old twins and have lost track of half each day since they were born. Keep up the good work!
The good news is it gets better! My son is almost 1. The first weeks and months was definitely the hard time. Structure, consistency and a good schedule is your best friend.
hello, did you get a sleep regression at around 12 months? I hope not but I did and kind of made me feel disheartened as things were going so much better with my baby. He is 14 months now and sleep is a lot worse
FML dude I’ve got a 17 month old and another on the way. Knowing how important sleep is actually kind of makes the whole thing more stressful. Because I viscerally understand the toll this is taking on my body and my mind.
Thank you for this video. I have a 4yo, 3yo, and a 1 turning 2 in about 2mos (3 under 3) who all wake up multiple times through each night, each at different times. Thanks also to Nat who reminded me to embrace the chaos. Chaos has been eating me alive most days 😂
We did the exact same thing a few weeks in of our baby’s life. We took it in shifts and slept in separate bedrooms until he was sleeping through the night. Game changer.
Frankie is adorable. My youngest is now 6 and I still remember the sleepless nights with a strong dose of cringe. It is brutal. Sounds like the family is getting into a rhythm which is great.
This is relatable for sure... my wife and I had a baby about 4 months ago... the 4 month sleep regression has hit hard. Sorry to say it probably won't get easier...
I used to make this joke - I breastfeed because my husband can't and he sleeps because I can't. Our daughter is almost 3yrs old. Now baby 2 is on the way and I'm not looking forward to the little sleep. But we'll take it as it comes and embrace the process.
I remember when I got so sleep deprived feeding my son. I was sitting on the bed and my back against the wall holding him with the bottle at like 3:00 AM and the whole room started wobbling. I think it was a form of psychosis or panic and I was just sitting there holding him and feeding him. We're lucky now that he pretty much sleeps all night aside from some sleep regressions.
I LOVE your edit style so much!!! It’s better than any documentary out there. So cinematic and the back ground music is so good. Where do you get it? I just love those sounds. Is there like a playlist on Spotify with this kind of music? Anyone?
My son woke up very 45 minutes every night for the first year of his life, and then 4-6 times for the next years. 😵💫 My best advice: If you are two parents, sometimes have one parent take the whole night and the other one sleeping in a separate room. And you switch. That way you both can get a full nights sleep now and then. If you are a single parent, then have someone else take the baby for a night now and then if at all possible. Of course this works best once you are done breatfeeding, or if you aren't breatfeeding. But even then, the breastfeeding parent can sleep in a separate room, and the non-breastfeeding parent can bring the baby only for feedings, not for all wakings.
Your video quality does not show your tiredness, so congrats! How funny man. I totally feel your pain. I'll give my experience after 2 children. My first one woke up at least 5-6 times every single night until he was 2,5 years old, my second did not woke up almost until she was 9 months, and after that she would woke up once a week tops. It was crazy we even consult with our doctor because she wouldn't wake up to be breastfed at night but apparently this is an insane lottery you really don't know you are betting on until it is way too late. Btw my first 2 years with my son became a legend at my work place, I was the new managing director on an asset management firm and my team got to know me in a permanent sort-of hangover state hahahah Take care and get some sleep
I ended up sleeping so little for first couple months as a young dad after my daughter was born while working a full-time job that I ran into significant health issues. It started with elevated heart rate and some anxiety, leading to panic attacks and complete burnout. Our daughter was "colic" so she cried A LOT. Only later we found out that some specific supplements could have solved all of that for her because those were likely digestive pains. She was on breast milk so we didn't really expect it.
Oh Matt I’ve loved that you guys have made this video 🥰 such an important thing that we don’t speak about enough when becoming parents 🙌 One more reason to value women when they transition into motherhood, because it’s so hard!! 😅
Ok this is quite opposite for me. I slept terribly before my baby. Couldn't fall asleep until 3/4am, insomnia, every night was a fight. Ever since our baby came, I'm slightly more tired due to waking up every 3/2 hours but that allows me to fall asleep on cue at 10pm. If we time it with our baby nap, we get at least 2/3 hours before midnight which is the most restorative sleep in my opinion. (The more you sleep before midnight the better). Then it's a feed wake up, another 3 hours, feeding, 2h sleep until around 7am. By this time it's been 9h but around 7 hours of sleep which is enough for me to feel normal. Previously I could go to bed at 11pm, not sleep until 3am, then sleep till 10am. So that's 11 hours in bed sometimes but feeling terrible + not getting the pre-midnight sleep
I quite literally bought an Apple Watch last Friday, and have been tracking my sleep over the last three days. My wife and I are due to have our first baby in two days time!!! It will be interesting to see the change in sleeping pattern, albeit over a much shorter time period of sleep data collection compared to yours Matt! 😂
I actually have a different experience. Both my children slept very good from a very early stage. My daughter slept through the night from she was 7 weeks old. And my biggest "problem with her was that she loved to sleep until 10 am every morning. (From 8 pm the night before) . My son didnt sleep as much but he was a good sleeper too. So I have to admit, I have never had those weeks without sleep. 😄
To be honest, as much as I experienced sleep deprivation. I was also surprised how alert i was on like 1 hour of sleep over two days or something like that. Like if I did that now, I would be useless, however when you little one was a week old and you are focused on their survival, I found I was surprisingly alert and very useful with one hour of sleep.
Add postpartum onto your description of sleep deprivation and you have the first 3 months of me being a mom for the first time. I thought I was going crazy and never going to be normal again.
FINALLY! Matt gets to experience the hurdles of parenting instead of telling us all these strategies that only work if you're able to work remotely and dont have the responsibility of a parent.
So just checked the data … I have Apple Watch for some years and 9 month old … the sleep time stayed about the same but also as matt discovered the time in bed increased … and yeah wake-up’s because of the kid between 5-8 in the morning usually

Currently watching while nursing my 3 month old after a particularly sleep deprived night #solidarity
My son woke up very 45 minutes every night for the first year of his life, and then 4-6 times for the next years. 😵💫 My best advice:
If you are two parents, sometimes have one parent take the whole night and the other one sleeping in a separate room. And you switch. That way you both can get a full nights sleep now and then.
If you are a single parent, then have someone else take the baby for a night now and then if at all possible.

Previously I could go to bed at 11pm, not sleep until 3am, then sleep till 10am. So that's 11 hours in bed sometimes but feeling terrible + not getting the pre-midnight sleep
Frankie is such a cute baby! 😍
That ad read was hilarious
Would have been nice to do it with Nat as pregnancy affects your sleep ❤
I quite literally bought an Apple Watch last Friday, and have been tracking my sleep over the last three days. My wife and I are due to have our first baby in two days time!!! It will be interesting to see the change in sleeping pattern, albeit over a much shorter time period of sleep data collection compared to yours Matt! 😂
im jealous of your 12 days. 365+ days over here 😭great video though, was super fun to watch!
Ok the banana fingers got me. This was cinema
It wasn’t so bad for me either. I guess we are in the minority 😊
Matt when the ai responds after being unplugged: 😳
Frankie in the very next shot: 😳
I think it runs in the family 😂
Wait a minute, is little Frankie flipping us off at 2:14?
on post-partem depression : the FDA just approved a new drug SPECIFICALLY for ppd. it starts working quickly unlike typical anti-depressants.
I was researching on sleep routine and Notification appeared!! 😂😂
It was getting better after 9 month our baby was born🙂🙂
I caught that hard and fast joke Matt 😂😂
Add postpartum onto your description of sleep deprivation and you have the first 3 months of me being a mom for the first time. I thought I was going crazy and never going to be normal again.

Frankie so good boy!)) Congs. Bro!)
Even harder when you have to go to a job and can’t spend 12 hours in bed. The sleep deprivation is rough.
FINALLY! Matt gets to experience the hurdles of parenting instead of telling us all these strategies that only work if you're able to work remotely and dont have the responsibility of a parent.
Hahaha so true. I should make an apology video.
😅
How is Nat doing? Childbirth can be hard on women physically and emotionally. Is she feeling like herself?
Now see if you can do the 30 days no caffeine again 😂
Matt, can I tell you a little question....5 years ago I envisioned that I would be a business owner. And here I am
So just checked the data … I have Apple Watch for some years and 9 month old … the sleep time stayed about the same but also as matt discovered the time in bed increased … and yeah wake-up’s because of the kid between 5-8 in the morning usually
I've never been so tired in my life as with young kids
The banana hands sent me 😂
