Roller Cookie Machine Restoration [Bake Cookies]
- For the restoration of this old cookie machine I had to powder coat it, work on the lathe, grind, cut, bend, mill, sandblast, fill and some more. Some parts I had to make new or buy as they were no longer available. Other parts I had to derust, machine and recoat with paint. I also cleaned the parts, polished them, and gave them a nickel plating or bluing to protect them from future environmental exposure. After restoring the antique cookie machine, I was able to test it out and eat some very tasty cookies.
This video is not only to quickly show someone how something works, but also to relax and get away from it all! Relax while watching the video and enjoy what you see and hear. I recommend you put on headphones and listen carefully at certain points (I've highlighted them), as there are often very strange sounds there.... Enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------------
▶ What did I do ?! ◀
The first step is to disassemble the antique cookie machine, which was easily done with a few screws and a screwdriver. Then the old paint and rust must be removed with sandblasting, the surface must be filled and sanded and the parts must be powder coated. I machined the gears, the rollers for the cookies and the screws on the lathe, sandpapering the surface (with different grits). The springs, which are installed between the rollers, I blasted and painted with cold burnishing. The handwheel I bought new, to be able to mount it I only had to adjust the shaft on the lower roller. The two boards to pull the dough and to dress the formed cookies, I had to make new. I cut the boards to size, routed chamfers and cut a groove. Now all that was left was to assemble all the restored parts, mix the dough, and fire up the oven to get delicious cookies out of the old cookie machine. Bon appetit!
------------------------------------------------------------
▶ Good to know ◀
I used the following tools: Screwdriver, rust remover spray, hammer, sandblasting cabin, abrasive corundum, compressor, files, multifunction tool, grinder, angle grinder, sandpaper, putty for powder coating, putty knife, powder coater, oven, lathe, scribing needles, caliper, ruler, stop angle, adhesive tape, knife, wire, tweezers, bending device, Allen key, lathe chisel, rust remover, polishing stand, polishing paste, nickel electrolyte, laboratory power supply, cold bluing, router, plotter

Meine Mechaniker was here 👏
Hello👋🐢
If this channel is good enough for Meine Mechaniker, it's good enough for me!
New subscriber here, from Houston, Texas (USA)
Thank you very much and welcome! 🐢
That is awesome, not only cleaning up the parts and removing rust but also plating the screws in a nickel solution. You also replaced the missing parts and got the cookie machine working like a charm as well. Great work.
Thank you very much for your great Feedback! 🤩 👍 🐢
@@ForgottenShineRestoration there are some old things you shouldn't try and make nice with putty, I like to see traces of the casting process
@@tommynygaardjensen8398 I am with you and like to see some traces as well, but IMHO telling him he shouldn't do something (like using putty) seems really rude. Just because we would like it different doesn't give us the right to tell him what he should or shouldn't. His projects, his decisions.
I like the “little details” during the paintjob part. It’s a different editing style from just showing everything getting primed, sanded and painted at the same time like in most restoration videos. Great job!
Thank you very much! That was also new to me, but with so many parts that get the same processing in the end, I thought that was the best option. Nice that someone notices it right away ... 👍🐢
It doesn't matter how long the video is , restoration videos make time pass quickly I feel like I'm watching a 3 minutes video , So addicting ❤️
Today’s my 18th birthday. This is a very nice surprise.
Oh great! I wish you a happy birthday! 🥳 In Germany, this is the most important birthday 🤩👍🐢
@@ForgottenShineRestoration thank you!!
Happy Birthday!
@@MokaAkashiya thanks!
Happy birthday 🎉🥳🥳🥳)
Your explanations of each action are impeccable…..WOW
Thank you! 🐢
I love your Humor when your doing this. Should do it more, it puts a smile on my face. 😁
😅👍🐢 Thank you!
That was too cute. Love the ending.
The amount of metal scratching noise in this vdo already made this one of the hardest “watch till the end” challenge for me EVER
Seriously? At what point in the video is it so bad for you? 🐢
@@ForgottenShineRestoration It's not bad for me. It's just challenging. I actually enjoyed it a lot. XD
What an amazing restoration. I love every detail you're doing, everything's glowing. Every step you take, you explain in that section. It was me who watched your video get enlightened with new science. Outstanding job brother, Gbu. 🍻❤️🔥😍
Thank you very much for your kind words! 🐢
This is the kind of thing I would love to be able to do. I like the attention to detail, and the obvious research you must have done to replace missing parts. And the cookies looked delicious!!!!
Thank you very much! 🐢

Wonderful - ASMR, detailed captions, and that turtle!
🤣🤣👍🐢 Thank you!
Technically the turtle means this is the first VTuber restoration video.
Now that is one hell of a restoration, even an upgrade from the original in some regards :) I think the dough should be different, though - based on the fact that it was meant to have all the details in the final product it should be some kind of sugar cookie dough that utilises very little to no baking powder, to limit the "swelling" that happens in the oven.
Tolles Video! Weiter so 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. Ciao 🐢🧇😋
Vielen lieben Dank für dein tolles Kommentar! Schön wieder von dir zu lesen.. 🐢
I’m not that into ASMR in general as entertainment…but this is so familiar and satisfying to me. As a child I would take things apart just to see how they worked and put them back together again. For example, my grandparents had a banister that was screwed into the wall. My dumbass at 6 years old decided I could use a screwdriver to take it off the wall, just to see if I could. I did it, and without damaging it or myself…but I was too weak to lift the banister back up enough to screw it back in. Even now I take apart just about everything, especially if they’re broken. If they’re broken, I’m not wasting anything exploring it, and I might find a way of fixing it.
I’m glad there are people out there willing to restore items that are otherwise lost. The amount of people who would have seen this as junk or £5 antique store fodder is astounding, but understandable. Keep up the good work :).
Thank you for the little glimpse into your childhood, I am especially happy about such comments! 🐢
❤
Your video is an audio-visual delight!
Oh thank you very much for this compliment! 🤩🐢
I am Japanese. I like your video very much. I'll be watching all the time, so please keep up the good work!
Thank you! 🐢
Absolutely brilliant restoration FSR! A joy to watch you restore and now I'm craving a cookie to dunk in my tea!!!

Thank you very much! 🐢
Oh my Word you did such a Fantastic job Restoring this Cookie machine, I don't believe I have ever Seen one of these the . Thank you for sharing your passion.
Thank you, too for your kind words! 🐢
I like the emphasis on sound, nice to see / hear something a bit different. The best sound in any restoration video though is that click when a stuck screw releases!
That's right, it's really nice when the screw comes loose, but I always ask myself the question: "Is the screw torn off now? 😅🐢
VERY CHEEKY I've never been told about the powder coating using an electrical charge before and I've seen so many other tubers doing the spraying part! literally hundreds! Kudos for sharing :) and thank you!
😅🤩👍🐢 Thank you...

Perfect restoration, the camera is also great. I am great Fan from you.

This was beautiful! I wonder if, once upon a time, there were other rollers that could be used to make different designs. This is like an automatic version of those springerle rolling pins, instead of the stamps. I love it!
Also, if you want crunchy cookies from this roller, just try freezing them and then baking them frozen. It will take an extra minute or two to cook, but frozen fat behaves very differently than warmed fat in baked goods. Warmed fat allows for expansion (usually puddling and puffing), whereas cold fat stays dense. Now you know how much time I spend in the kitchen when I'm not working my real job - and bringing my coworkers baked goods!
Oh thanks, the tip is really good!
Yes, I also have 4 other rollers for this device, one is even made of wood. But I thought that was great with the writing "Keks", because that is the German word for cookie.... There are also rollers with which you can make noodles, there are many applications for this device. 🐢
@Forgotten Shine Restoration oh, yes! I understood keks, and thought this roller was lovely for cookies! ("Keks" sounds like "cakes" in English; and Americans say "cookies," because it comes from a Dutch word for "little cakes." The Dutch had colonies in America simultaneously with the British, so the Dutch word got adopted; and biscuits became something else - a food like a scone, but used in savory dishes. Too much food and language history, but I do love baking. I'm making some keks today for a party where I work, in fact.)
Yes, it's just like in every language and country, you never really agree. For example, there are also many words for rolls in Germany 😅
Have fun baking!🐢
if you hadn't tried it by baking cookies at the end, I would've unsubscribed......... Love your work !!!!!
Phew lucky! 🥵Thank you🐢
Excellent job, well done.👍
Thank you! 🐢
Well done
THIS RESTORATION THE BEST!!!
Thank you very much! 🤩🐢
Beautiful!
Thank you very much! 🐢
What can I say!!! I've been a silent watcher of your channel and videos for a long time and I've always liked what you've done, but I especially like this video here! I find your quiet way of restoring very remarkable, most other channels don't have that. The fact that you always picked one component and showed it in detail I really liked, so the video is exciting throughout and also in its length, for me, very good! The video recordings, perspectives, the cut and the sound recordings are perfect, really interesting what there is sometimes to see and hear in detail.
Where do you get all this? Where did you get the machines? Those are always the questions that bother me. All in all, the restoration was perfect! Thank you for your great work! Keep it up, you deserve a lot more subscribers and attention....
There is a like from me!
Thank you very much for your great comment! 🤩👍🐢
Looks amazing!! Nice work!
Thanks a lot! 🐢
Awesome very nice job. Thanks
Thank you, too for your great feedback! 🤩🥰🐢
Nice job brother. Like from India.
Very nice work.. never seen your videos before... I subbed.. Cookie machine turned out beautiful...
Thank you very much and welcome 🤩🐢
the 👂❗️ is such a cool little detail
I'm glad to hear it! 🐢
Wunder über Wunder ! Ich hatte schon gedacht du hast hier "gekündigt" ! Wo bekommt man so eine Keksmaschine her ?
great job
Thanks! 🐢
Beautiful restoration mister well done

Amazing job restoration
Thank you very much! 🐢
Thanks for make Happy all day whith your videos
Thank you a lot! 🐢
Looks great! Curious why you didn't media blast the cutter roller? Seems like it would have been faster and more thorough and easier to get into the recessed pockets while removing very little metal. Was that a rust remover like EvapoRust? To the audience never use acid for rust removal - it causes hydrogen embrittlement and weakens metal.
My favorite part is still (sandblasting). I still keep asking myself "How does sandblasting get rid of rust, can someone explain it to me please?". This is still and amazing and outstanding restoration👍👍❤❤
Yes sandblasting is really a very satisfying thing because you go from an item in poor condition to a really great "silver" shiny part.... 🐢

@@ForgottenShineRestoration 😄😄
I think it’s so beautiful 🙂
Amazing!!
Thank you very much!
Just a little something to help make it easier next time… put your dough in the fridge for awhile before rolling it. That way, the butter will harden and it’ll make it much less soft when rolling it out.
Ok, thank you very much for your tip! 🤩 🐢
Buenisimo 💪💪💪💪
Ya voy 😋😋😋😂😂😂😂

Well done.

VERY NICE
I can't think of anything wrong
[It's all perfect -- and no metal was removed that would be needed for strength (the casting marks that usually show/preserve the MMC {Maximum Material Condition} that some folks usually go to close with it) that You didn't do here]
Excellent [powdercoating and kitchen finished included -- nickel plating, also]
[Maybe the "knurling" was altered, but that's it]
WOW LOL
GOOD JOB 👍😂😎☕️☕️
