Hammer Restoration [With Resin Eye]

- When I restored the old rusty hammer head, I had to soft anneal, Sandblasting, grind, file, harden, hand sand and polish the metal. The hammer handle I made new, for this I used ash. For good measure, I filled the eye of the hammer with resin, which added a lot to the look. Please also note that this video is not only to quickly show someone how something works, but also to relax and unwind from everyday life!
------------------------------------------------------------
▶ What did I do ?! ◀
The old, rusty hammer head was already heavily rusted, which could be seen from the pitting. To remove the rust, I decided to use the process of electrolysis. Soft annealing allowed me to work the hammer head better because the surface was no longer so hard. To do this, I heated it to 700 °C and let it cool slowly. In the next step, I ground, sandblasted, polished and painted the hammer head. It was also hardened again at 900°C and tempered three times at 200°C. The hammer handle was made on the lathe, rubbed with linseed oil varnish and the hammer eye was filled with resin. Now the old rusty hammer shines again in its "Forgotten Shine"!
------------------------------------------------------------
▶ Good to know ◀
I used the following tools: Wire brush, laboratory power pack, salt, scrap metal, brush, wire, string, side cutters, hardening furnace, forging pliers, belt sander, file, sandpaper, multifunction tool, milling pencil, sandblasting cabinet, corundum as blasting medium, immersion heater, oil, oven, polishing stand, polishing paste, knife, adhesive tape, spray paint, isopropanol, lathe, chisel, saw, wood glue, pin punch, resin, linseed oil varnish.

bruh I thought this was a loaf of raisin bread until I read the title ^^
🤣🤣🐢
I read the title and still wondered why the thumbnail was bread 🤦
@@nataliezemlak17 😂 right
Very crunchy bread
It's a good source of iron
Love you bro, you will always be my inspiration. To the person reading this: Even though I don't know you, I wish you the best of what life has to offer ☀️
I hope you are having a wonderful day!
Thanks very much! I wish you the same! 🐢
You’re so close to 500K I can literally taste the celebration coming, you’ve come a long way, congrats ❤
Thank you very much! I'm also looking forward to this big milestone! 🐢
@@ForgottenShineRestoration 🙏 you deserve it
Eine tolle Arbeit hast Du da wieder hervorgezaubert ! Danke für das super Video 🐢🔨👏👏👏
Vielen lieben Dank! 🤩🐢
Yet another broken bit of metal turned once again into a useful and beautiful tool. 💚 I loved watching the electrolysis (that eroded bit of metal left over at the end was wild!), annealing is always fascinating (I temper chocolate for baking and cooking, but it's nowhere near as interesting), and a lathe was involved (you have to love a machine that could make a copy of itself). Add in the Turtle cameos, and it was utter perfection. Please keep Turtle out of the oven; we are not looking forward to watching you eat baked terrapin!
Thank you for another wonderful restoration!
Thank you for your great comment! Yes how the piece of metal looked after the electrolysis was amazing... 🐢
Good restoration...amazing!!!
Thanks for the specifications on temperatures. As a hobbyist knife sharpener I sometimes worry that using a sanding belt might ruin the heat treatment of a knife. I use a very crude "Does it burn my finger?" test. If it doesn't, I guess it's not above any critical temperature, probably less than 100 C.
BRAVO...! BRAVO !! BRAVO !!!!
Awesome watching someone who knows what they are doing. Great restoration!!!
Thank you very much for your great Feedback! 🐢🤩
Excelente trabajo.....!!!!!!
Love your work and Turtle of course. 🐢
Thank you! 🐢
I follow a couple of bakers on this platform. I thought the thumbnail was bread 🤣.
🤣🤣🐢
Forbidden bread! "It's a lot tougher than I thought it would turn out, and the flavor isn't quite what I would have wanted. The oven was set at quite a high temperature. Perhaps turning the oven down, using wheat flour with a yeast leavening, more than just salt as flavoring, and leaving out all of the iron might improve the dough?"

Thank you very much! 🐢
Turtle does such great work ! 😁
Where are you based? I am MagnetMan and I dip a magnet into the water and retrieve rusty items. Guns, Bombs, Tools etc etc. I have recently found a sword from 1788 and I am wanting to get it cleaned up as its from a Cavalier. I'm in the UK so hope your close enough for us to collab on its restoration 😊
I come from Germany... 🐢
Jee, Želvička taky pomáhá. Pěkná práce 👍 Pavel 🇨🇿
Dík! 🐢
Im not a metal worker or restoration expert in any way, but couldn't you do a vinegar bath then to grinding and sanding, instead of water scrub then electrolysis then softening then grindind and sanding?
Looking at the thumbnail, I thought you were going to restore a raisin bread. 😁
Güzel oldu!
Das is der Hammer. 🤣 Sehr schöne und gute Arbeit. Mir gefallen deine Verfahren und deine Umsetzung. Weiter so. 👍🏻
Vielen Dank für dein tolles Kommentar! 🐢
Nice to put it back into service again. 👍
Thats true! 🤩🐢
The image of the thumbnail resembles a rancid bread with raisins
Eu amo a sua organização. Não perco um vídeo seu. Posta mais pra gente
Muito obrigado! 🐢🤩
That's one heck of a contrast between the before and after pics.
I saw the pic in the thumbnail before reading the caption and my first gues was ,meteorite?
Nossa querida tartaruga 🐢 little Turtle ❤

Very very nice 👍
Thank you! 🐢
Can I repost your video to the Chinese website bilibili? I think the video you did to repair the item is very decompression, very powerful, gave me a feeling of enjoyment, I hope to share this happiness. Thanks!
Hello. No I do not want!
@@ForgottenShineRestoration Thank you for your reply😘😘
Excellent👏
Thank you! 🐢
For future reference using table salt releases chlorine gas as a byproduct, I recommend using sodium hydroxide as your electrolysis agent as it releases hydrogen instead. Love your videos ❤️
Ah, thanks for the tip, very useful! 🐢
🤨⚠️ ~ both are dangerous = the 1st can poison you, the 2nd a risk of explosion and fire - advised to do it outside/in a well ventilated area ✅
Well done.👍
Thank you! 🐢
Woke up to a new video, nice what a good way to start the day lol
Good Morning! 🐢
Super
you should put the volume warning before the loud sounds start not when it starts
Do you ever use mig welding to fill the larger voids on the metal. Thank you
Great work bro!
Well done😊
Thank you! 🐢
From the thumbnail I was positive this was a biscotti
nice😘😘👍👍
Thank you! 🐢
Very good

Where do you find these rusted parts at?
2:19 it seemed to me that a worm was coming out of the jar
Why not cold blue it?
Good very good 👏👏🌹🍀🍀
Thank you! 🐢

Almost 500.000
Oh yeah ä! 🤩🤩🤩🐢
Store-bought wooden handles break more often than homemade ones, because they are not selected from the strongest natural grain of wood.
Until i read 11:18 I ALWAYS thought you were forgotten SHRINE, not shine lol
🤣🤣👍🐢
Wow 💯💯 but am I the only one .... the oil part at the end 😶😶🤣
😅🤣🐢
My dude are you ASMR❤
Thank you! 🐢
Cool !
I wish my tools looked half as good
😱😱🐢
Excelente 👏👏👏
Thank you! 🐢
TOP!
Thank you! 🐢
Hey 👋 turtle 🐢 😍
🤩🥰🐢
I'm completely ignorant to your profession and I admittedly have no idea how electrolysis removes rust…but wouldn't sandblasting remove the rust faster and easier? Genuinely asking.
Yes, you can do that, but then you have the entire impurities in the beam... that costs a lot more. 🐢
👍👍👍
👏👏👏👏
What is that orange sanding tool you are using, seem extremely useful
This is a sandpaper file, yes this is really very useful and makes your job easier! 🐢
as always very cool, you and the turtle are great fellows!❤ why so many cool ideas??
