Pepper Grinder Restoration [Stabilize Wood, Nickelplating, ASMR]

- As with (almost) every restoration I've done so far, I like to learn and try a new technique, in this restoration video it's "stabilizing wood". My object for this project is an old antique pepper mill. During the restoration I had to do the following: sanding, sandblasting, turning on the lathe, threading, filling, painting, stabilizing wood and much more. This video is not only to quickly show someone how something works, but also to relax and get away from it all! Relax while watching the video and enjoy what you see and hear. I recommend you put on headphones and listen closely at certain points (I've highlighted them), there are often very strange sounds.... Have fun!
------------------------------------------------------------
▶ What did I do ?! ◀
As always, I disassembled the old pepper mill to be able to restore it. Then I sandblasted the metal parts with corundum in the sandblasting cabin. Then I deburred the grinder with the files and smoothed the surface with wire attachments for the multitool. I remade the set screw that adjusts the coarseness of the pepper on the lathe because it was missing altogether. To protect these parts from rust in the future, I "boiled" them in vinegar. One sheet of the antique pepper mill I polished and nickel plated. The upper parts I painted with black lacquer. The wooden body I sanded and stabilized with cactus juice, this is done with a vacuum tank, vacuum pump and oven. At the end of the project, of course, I put all the parts back together.
------------------------------------------------------------
▶ Good to know ◀
I used the following tools: Screwdriver, pliers, wrench, water pump pliers, pin punch, multitool, screw clamp, hammer, magnetic bowl, tweezers, sandblasting cabinet, compressor, corundum as abrasive, files, key files, drill, center drill, lathe, sandpaper (various grits), lathe chisel, knurling tool, spray oil, tap external thread, hot plate, vinegar, glass container, tap internal thread, bench polisher, laboratory power supply, nickel, nickel electrolyte, base color, top coat, clear coat, wire, filler, putty knife, Cactus Juice, vacuum container, vacuum pump, aluminum foil, hardening furnace, linseed oil varnish, brass

Thanks a lot!
I like the new sound sections. I watch these videos because I find the sounds and lack of music or talking to be calming. The sound-focused sections are awesome.
Thank you very much! 🤩👍🐢
The lack of music is the best. I also love all the sounds.
DITTO! it's important to hear the sounds that these beautiful pieces make throughout the restoration process. thank you for letting us hear them.
ASMR 😴😴
I really like how you explain each step in detail in the video, so layman can understand what each step does.
Thank you for your feedback!🐢
yeah i agree, i like to know what they are doing, ive seen other videos and i sped a lot of time wondering what they're doing at points, but thank you for showing us steps and giving us a bit of knowledge

Turtle's reaction to the mill* as the best 🤣
**Words when I don't think before typing*
This is a Masterpiece. I have not come across any Restoration work like this. Clearly a high class work. My appreciation and salutations to you.
Thank you so much for your great comment! 🥰🤩🐢
Just wait until you discover My Mechanics.
Wie schön Dir bei der Arbeit zuzusehen! Die Idee Geräusche hervorzuheben gefällt mir sehr gut ! Tolle Arbeit, sauber und präzise wie immer 😉🐢💚
Vielen lieben Dank für dein schönes Lob! 🐢
What a beautiful result!!! I'd LOVE to have a find like this one! I loved the 'fight' putting the metal parts into and out of the magnetic bowl - it was quite funny to me. I cheated and used a BlueTooth bass-boost speaker, but the sound sections slot in so well! I get SO relaxed watching any steel being turned, it soothes me incredibly. Kudos on another wonderful video, I look forward to your next one!
Thank you for your great feedback! 🐢
You stepped this renovation to a level I had never seen before with that cactus juice and sucking the air out of the wood. 😮
Thank you! 🐢
Mesmerizing. I love how pepper grinder turned out. SO lovely. Amazing job.
Thank you very much! 🐢
I accidentally laughed every time you tried to pull something from the magnet bowl 🤣
😅🤷♀️🐢
This guy is so precise with his movements. Amazing transformation.
Thank you very much! 💪🤩🐢
It's a young peppercorn's worst nightmare. "You're grounded, sonny!" 😄
Hey friend. I was waiting for this. So I was right about the Peppermill on your Instagram :) great work. Well done!!!
Thanks a lot bro! Yes you had guessed it right then, great! 🤩👍🐢

Small item, big job. Boiling metal in vinegar, interesting trick. Thanks. S
Thanks very much! 🐢
2:20 reminded me of the dentist, but i was able to enjoy this video more :D nice work
Yes, while editing the video I was thinking the same thing 😅🐢
These videos always make me sleep 😪
Wow, it turned out very cool. I'm sure that you spent a lot of time on this video and you managed to surprise me with both the quality of the content and the video itself. I have a subscription and a royal like!
Who also agrees that the car is well done, please support
Beautiful work as always. I like the headphone addition.
Something I'd be interested to see included in the videos is how long each restoration took you to complete.
It's really difficult to say, the effort increases with each video, because I want to constantly improve the quality in sound and image! The actual restoration process would certainly take only 10% of the time... 🐢😅
this tiny piece of kitchen equipment will make many people happy for another hundred years.
Thanks for sharing your talents in these videos. I always watch most videos with the sound off. The only place I ever follow anyone is on RUclips.
Thanks very much! 🐢
Very nice! Looks great
Thank you! 🐢
I don't know why, I don't know how, but these videos are for me mesmerizing. Without mentioning the good work! Thank you very much for sharing, as always.
And when you asked "do you like when i do this? the answer for me is definitely yes. :D
Thank you very much for your great feedback! 🤩🐢
I also recently managed to restore a very similar pepper mill. At home using a drill driver, multi grinder and sandpaper. The only difference is that after sanding the wood, I used stain and clearcoat (gloss).
Fanstastic work 👏👌 thanks my friend👍👍👍
Thank you,too! 🤩👍🐢
Wow such a beautiful job👍 looks great, well done
Thank you very much, bro! 🐢
Best one so far keep it up
Thank you very much! 🐢

Sie ist sehr schön geworden. Sehr schöne Arbeit. Würde sehr gut in meine neue Küche passen. 😅 👌 selber rein geschaut 😁😁
Outstanding - your explanation, the restoration, the super clean and polished video and the perfectly balanced audio (asmr) - on another level! The little animated 🐢cute touch. I'm very impressed.
Did you also do the editing? How long did the whole project take you to complete?
Thank you so much for your great feedback! 🐢
Yes, I did everything on the video alone, I'm a "one-man team" so to speak.
Hard to say how many days went into it, because with every video the effort for sound and image is higher to achieve a nice result.
I'm very happy to read when it also comes to the viewers...
Great Video!
Thank you very much! 🤩🐢
Great job, as ever! I love the turtle
Thanks very much! 🐢
It was wonderful 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😍
Thank you very much! 🐢
6:27 yes! Binaural ASMR 🦻🏼🤟🏼❣️
Nicely done.😊
Thanks very much! 🐢
lovely restoration as usual, in the UK we call aluminium foil tin foil
You should probably use electrolysis or waporust instead of sandblasting on parts like this. Less destructive against the good metal.
Thats true, thank you! 💪🐢
Genius.
Thank you very much! 🐢
Boiling the metal parts in vinegar makes a much nobler appearance than treating tham with cold bluing.
Vielen Dank! 🐢
A very great job!!
Thank you very much for your feedback! 🐢
It's awesome
Thanks a lot! 🐢
Superb.
Sweet 👍🏻 👍🏻
Maybe it's the mj talking, but when that scrub brush pulled a face I nearly died 😂😂

Thanks a lot! 🐢
I know it’s necessary to remove the handle of every single thing that you restored but this time for the next time you do another hand grinder whatever for metal make sure to do the crank part where you can attach it with the same material again
Video này thật bổ ích 👍
Great job restoring it, it looks wonderful!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thank you, nice to read from you again! 🐢
@@ForgottenShineRestoration You're welcome!!
Yeah, I was right with my guess that your next project is a peppermill when you asked the community 🎉
And yes, 6:28 I like it, sound very tingly 😌
I can live without the sound. Not a big deal if others like it.
The thing that scares me is that 99% of the comments in this and other videos are always about "calming down".
This audio manages to calm me down, this audio manages to relax me, manages to keep me from thinking about ..The success of ASMR makes it clear how much there is something that it does not do socially.
Tons of these comments in all the videos are a clear social signal, very worrying. There are too many people who feel the need to calm down, to relax. So many comments, it makes us understand how much social anxiety has increased .Seems that it is the first necessity of the people, a cry of alarm and it makes me fear that there are many young people already so stressed.
Perhaps it is the case, however, to relax while taking also a good run. GREAT CHANNEL compliments!
Thank you very much! 🐢
Yes, I personally also say it again and again "we have forgotten to relax properly!" And why?! Because we do something all day, our brain is exposed to a constant load. Even if you lie down on the sofa and "rest" you look at your smartphone and watch videos, news, tweets and everything else there is... Where smartphones didn't exist, you really "had" to rest and just lie down and stare at the ceiling.... I also believe that it is the reason for many diseases and a, as you have already written, new problem of mankind.
That's why I'm never angry when someone writes here that he relaxes, falls asleep or something like that. I know then that I have helped the person.
I restored mine! My neighbor gave it to me and it was pretty rough. I may give it a sand and a coat of a nice stain on it.
That's really great! 🐢
Thank You.
You might review your subtitles. White on light background, thin & short letters?
Great work👍
Thank you so much! 🐢
My dude cooked a piece of wood in aliminium foil like it was fish
Say, do you think that hardener stuff could help clear out pitting? Maybe curing it with iron shavings or something?
Magnifique 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Merci beaucoup! 🐢
I love this channel 😊
Thanks very much! 🐢 🤗🤗
Top ... show ....
Thanks very much! 🐢
I Really Love your Attention to Detail!!! You went Above & Beyond for this pepper grinder! I Love Pepper so much, I bet it smelled good when you ground it! Once again, I am So Happy I found your channel!! Might I ask? What is the Video Camera you use? (Amazon Link?) And what is the Video Editing Software you use? I've told all my friends about your channel and they too are happy! I So Love the Sounds and the Humor you put into your videos! You Sir, are AMAZING!
Thank you! 🤩 The camers is a "Sony AX53" and I edit the vodeos with "Davinci Resolve" 🐢
What a nice project! I really enjoy the video, only with the effects sounds of the actions and no music is very placent to whatch, greatings from Argentina.
Thanks very much! 🐢
Bravo👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you! 🐢
very good!!! it was so perfect!!!
And thanks for the Portuguese subtitles, but some of them are wrong.
For example:
"forgotten shine" in portuguese is "brilho esquecido" not "luz esquecida".
