I agree. This is the anniversary pan from Wagner line. 1891 would have just thr maker Wagner and size '8
@@falconNL cállate
An original would have been milled smooth, these modern pans are really junk and only good used with tons of grease.
It could be 2011 and still be an amazing job, nitpickers man 🤦♂️
As soon as I saw that logo, I said "This is not from 1891." A quick Internet search shows that that branding was on a pan made by the Wager company in 1991, to commemorate the centennial of the founding of the Wagner Cast Iron company. Still, after this restoration, I don't doubt someone will still be able to use it when it IS 130 years old.
Exactly - I have 2 similliar pans - without ribs on cooking area - plain flat - perfect for eggs on bacon - these were bought in early 1990s - still using them after almost 30 years. BTW - I was really sad to find out that Wagner is out of business.
The font Aachen was designed in 1969. That was my first clue. Nothing about it looks 130 years old.
I heard that if it is marked made in the USA it's indicative of the 1950's. But hey what do I know. Beautifully done, love cooking on cast iron.
Also, nobody used the phrase, "MADE IN U.S.A." in 1891.
@@TexDrinkwater What did they use to indicate something was American made?

@@markk9446 slightly overcooked. that looked medium. not medium rare
@@vijayvarghese1652 I don’t think you’ve ever had a steak before in your life. That was well done
That frying pan is nice but, it wasn't made in 1891. Country of Origin wasn't required until after 1960. This is a reproduction made around the 1990's. Nice pan none-the-less. An 1890's pan would also have a "gate mark" on the cast iron, which were common until the early 20th century.
I don't contest your facts, with exception to the country of origin statement. While that may be true that it wasn't "required" that doesn't mean nobody posted a country of origin prior to 1960. I have a pannocake pan from 1941 with country of origin inscribed (also year of manufacture).
For that matter, I also have a Day grandfather clock from circa 1560, with country of origin posted. There are other examples, but none on hand.
You are correct. This was an anniversary edition.

Me too lol !
That pan isn't 130 years old its actually from the 90's these particular ones started selling in 1991 so 30 years is more like it
I think what he meant was that the pan would look good for it's age only if it were 130 years old so he was being facetious
Yeah, the guy who wrote the letter got it wrong. 1891 is part of the brand name, not a date of manufacture.
I actually didn't know that and I think the channel didn't either
I have 4 of these 1891 Wagner Pans + 2 pots. Received as a wedding gifts 1992. Outlasted the marriage. No doubt will outlast me.
That would be correct. It's a newer pan. I have a few Wagners from the 1920s to the early 1960s. Different handle design and smoother surface. And no the rough surface isn't from rust pitting but not polishing pan after releasing from sand mold.
Nobody searched this, but everyone stayed until the end

My grandma used cast iron skillet for years, and my aunt too. I love cast iron, I have a complete set of skillets, a Dutch oven, and a reversible grill/griddle that's extra long so it uses two burners on the stove. You can buy a set of cloth handle covers, so you can grab the cast iron skillet without burning your hands. My cast iron came preseasoned and the instructions on care said not to clean with soap, because it'll strip that seasoning. Just scrub with hot water and a nylon brush. Then place upside down in the oven at 500°F for an hour to dry. The steak you made looked delicious! It made me hungry for one.
Oh my god, an outdoor cooking video too. I'm in love.

Oven salesman here. Never put foil on the bottom of an oven. Great video. Big fan.
wagners 1891 is a cookware brand, founded in 1891, every single piece has the number 1891 on it. 1891 original series was made in the 90s. less than 30 years old.
Yep, i have one. It's their anniversary series that came out in 1991 and they made it with that "1891 original" on it for like a decade.
Yup. If it has "MADE IN USA" on it then it's most likely not older than the mid-1960s at best. Definitely also not what the vintage Wagner logo looked like
Whoever sent it in knew as much about the history of that pan as he knows about cooking a “steak”.
@@syndromeee i came to the comment section looking for this comment. lol
Facts. I’m also pretty sure in 1891, they didn’t have cast iron pans with the grill lines. Which were simply introduced in the 90s to separate the “extra” fat from your food. This video has zero credibility. Hope you guys enjoyed watching the rest of it.
Everyone keeps mentioning the bubble wrap...... But.... The tiny hands throughout the video was the thing that really cracked me up
I want him to do a restoration using only the tiny hands.
I’‘ve bought two iron pots at flea markets, and got them clean from years of old grease. And I found a pot that had been used as a planter, about to be thrown away. Rusty, but steel pan cleaner (that spiral thingy), oven cleaner, steel wool, scoring powder and a vat of elbow grease got it clean. After re-oiling and curing, it’s good as new. Iron never goes out of style! :D

Cast Iron for cooking is super overrated. Theres a reason restaurants use stainless steel over cast iron all over the world.
@@fcscouto because steel pans heat up faster and more evenly (usually because of an aluminium lamination) cast iron holds its heat much better and is ideal for going from a hob to an oven, cast iron also lasts indefinitely, steel pans don't, they have very different use cases and for the fast paced world of restaurants steel is more suitable, not necessarily better
