      I wouldn't be able to put it back together neither if I had hours of footages and someone told me what to do step by step.
      Also I would have lost the first screws immediately and then every other little part.
      I would have ended up painting it yellow and using it as a display for bananas.

      Hyrdo Peroxide and UV will make plastic more brittle and lose its color faster. Even though it's restored, it could be making more damage. • @ChozoSR388
    @ChozoSR388 3 года назад +78

    For those not in the know, the best pat of these kinds of restorations is that you're not only making them look better by retro brighting them, you're repairing the plastics, too; the plastics these consoles were made with went through a process called bromination, which made the plastic fire retardant. An unforeseen consequence of that process meant that the plastic degrades over time, especially when exposed to UV light, with the characteristic yellowing of the plastic. More worryingly, the plastic gets weaker the more progressively yellowed it becomes. It was discovered some time ago, and I assume by complete accident, that exposing the plastic to UV light after cleaning it with hydrogen peroxide reverses the degradation, and far quicker than it took to degrade in the first place. It should be noted that the reversal is not permanent; in another 20-30 years, without proper storage, perhaps even with proper storage, it will need to be done again, assuming the console lasts that long.

    • @XBladenoJutsu
      @XBladenoJutsu 3 года назад +12

      That's incorrect. The process is not repairing the plastic. In fact, it's further damaging them by applying the same type of thing that degraded them in the first place, and it's been reported that the process of yellowing will happen again much sooner than it did originally. If you want to look into it for more educated explanations, please do.

    • @StevenKelley
      @StevenKelley 3 года назад +2

      The yellowing is due to oxygen not being exposed to light. I had a bin of white Lego from 30 years ago that were closed in a light tight box that turned yellow. Oxygen destroys!

    • @Vinicius_Berger
      @Vinicius_Berger 3 года назад +4

      You're VERY wrong, sir. Retrobright unfortunately makes the plastic even weaker. I did that to my Dreamcast and yeah, it was pristine white... for a while! I stored it away from any contact with sunlight and after just a few months it was just as yellow (if not more) as it was before. Retrobright is not worth it at all.

    • @MD-fu6ly
      @MD-fu6ly Год назад +1

      total nonsense. "retrobriting" weakens not strengthens the plastic. what silly rubbish you're peddling 👎
