As someone who has a PS1 at home, that is fully functional, and doesn't look nearly as yellow, this made me happy to watch this beauty being restored to glory 💜

I still own this one. It's pristine. About 50 games too. This was very well done. Amazing work.
My mom owned one and she gave it to me, but we can’t find the games. I also have a ps2 that works and has the first 3d gta game so that’s cool.
Good job maintaining it
They really need a text only version of that Raid commercial for channels like you. It was seriously offputting.

I'm just sad to see mobile game ads infiltrate yet another great channel.
Agreed
$50 that's a bargain for everything you got with this console and you got a good amount of games as well.
Yeah and a bunch of the ps1 games are very expensive now adays to get them in good condition and complete case. Lucky I still have most of my ps1 games.
There's no sound like the PS1 intro. What a Nostalgia! Big hug from Brazil, dude!

It’s actually a lot easier doing it then watch it. Seeing as you’re actually involved in taking it apart your brain just remember especially for older systems. I recently started doing this stuff for fun and now I can take apart my laptop and put it back to together, it’s just a matter of doing it yourself and see if you truly can!
Same.
I am fixing a old xbox original that I found at a abandoned house
Fascinating video, excellent work, and so satisfying to watch, but you know what impresses me the most about this? You value quiet, natural sound, and just let us listen to the sounds of you working, rather than pumping in music for the sake of it, and to 'liven it up'. I hugely appreciate your 'sound sense' in this video!
Nice editing too!

Always Wondered what people used to restore the yellowness in old consoles! Will be giving my old Super Nintendo some love in the future after seeing this! Great restoration!
The technique is called "retro-brite", if you want to look up more information about it.
You have "the 8-bit guy", on YT, who is well used to this method =)
Mine is still in basically perfect condition since I got it 20ish years ago. Can't believe how yellow that one was

Wow! All I can say is WOW! I just found an identical PlayStation 1 that someone just tossed on the street and abandoned with all the cables and controllers not quite as yellow as yours but I'm going to use your video to restore it it already powers on. Thank you

Wow, that looks so much better! At the end, there is a little yellowing on the wire for the controller, and it really shows how cleaned up the console is. Great job!
This console right here is my favorite to work on. When I got mine in Oregon I was so excited to bring it back to my hotel and clean it up and work on it. I ended up going back to the game shop and asking for there recycled PS1 consoles and I interchanged some parts to give it an aesthetic that felt uniquely mine. I originally painted it a sparkle green but had issues with the paint running so years later I eventually stripped it off and repainted it a solid red and I love it. I don't know why but when I seen you open up that console it just flooded me with a love for seeing this console apart. Such a simple design that made it feel rewarding when repairs were made. If you do read this I wanted to say you did a really good job and thank you for the video. It really rekindled my love for this console. Makes me wanna take mine apart now and clean it up.
Nice shoutout to the ducktor there! ❤ it!

It's amazing how you can reverse the process of yellowing with a bit of chemistry knowledge.

PS1 is my childhood. It looks very old. Omg I feel old
Best console ever,I remember when it came up...
Sorry if these are silly questions, but I'm genuinely curious: Why does the plastic go yellow over time and how does the peroxide under UV light remove it when water can't?
I don't know how the UV light works but I do know if someone happened to be a heavy smoker the yellowing comes from some of the nicotine. I grew up in a smoker's home mine never did get the yellowing (I still have have it) However, my cousin's was my dad thinks it had something to do with the console being in direct line with the smoke vs mine which was not.
Retrobrighting acts sort of like bleaching. I don't know how or why, but it's like bleaching. As for the yellowing, it's usually caused by chemicals put into the plastic to make it more heat resistant breaking down under sunlight, for example.
