  • That simple trick is the shunt mod. When you modify the shunt, by adding solder / wire to make it thicker, you are tricking the controller to push more power to the motor. It's literally that simple.
Almost all 1000W Brushless motor controllers use this shunt, its pretty easy to spot it when you open up the controller. Just make sure that you only apply material to the shunt, and more important, that its not a low temp solder that melts off while you're riding!! (This can short other components in the controller, and potentially ruin it).
Generally, dumping twice as much current (our estimate) into the motor can heat up the motor, and that heat can burn out the motor, but also it can cause the motor to suck in water when it cools down. We also address ways how to mitigate these issues with Motor Varnish (waterproofing) and Statorade (liquid cooling).
And of course, the controller itself, pushing out (in this case) twice the power load, can also get very hot and over heat or even fail. In this video we go over filling the controller with a thermal epoxy, in this case making it pretty dang bulletproof.
Make sure the battery can support the power! We build a 52V25AH Downtube pack in this video to power this beast!
Hope you enjoy! What do you want to see? We would love to hear! Let us know in the comments!
