I know this is a dumb question, but with Gridserve charging 79p, would ot be cheaper to have a diesel suv with a trailer for when you collect your cars?
How the hell would the people who live in long, long rows of terraced houses of which there are thousands in the UK charge their ev's at home, well thought out plans by Westminster.
My sister bought a Renault Zoe back in September. It is 6 years old. The price was just over 30k € when it was new, but she paid just 2500€ with about 45000 kilometres on the clock (in Austria). She has an 80 kilometre round trip to her office twice a week. She said when the lights, heater and wipers are on, she struggles to complete her commute. She also can’t do the National speed limit as it means she’ll have even less range. She’s said she’ll get rid of it next year and get a diesel again. I think she’s learned her lesson.
Totally agree with this video. As an ex EV owner I have experience of broken chargers and long slow drives trying to find a working one. I bought an EV in 2022 when petrol prices were high and an EV looked like a good choice as I have solar at home. I drive about 3000 miles a year as I have a work vehicle. I wanted to use the EV to do local jobs and to drive around the South West on holiday. In 2023 I noticed EV used prices dropping and my cars value went from £36k new to £24k in under 18 months. Then in April 2024 it dropped to £21k and in June 2024 I was offered £18k by the dealer I bought it from with under 6000 miles. I sold it to a car buying service for £21k luckily they over paid me for it. Now in a petrol car and can drive over 400 miles on a tank and fuel anywhere.
Oh OK, well that's called buying at the top of the market and then doubling down by selling. More fool you really. You can of course do more miles per fill up, because your ICE car has a bigger fuel capacity, because it needs it. Your EV would have done 120+ mpg and so helped you minimise your losses, instead of which you've maximised them by choosing to pay the oil companies.
@@oldgit15 No fool here. The car I sold in June has already dropped another £1000 and online car buyer offered £18k so a drop of £3000 Just price one on Autotrader. A 3 year old ID3 which is the sister car is £15000 or less so I would have lost possibly another £6000 in a year. My Leon was £13000 and its immaculate limited edition with a 2 year SEAT warranty and 50 mpg Anyone owning an EV is in for a lot of pain but I had the sense to get out. Leasing isn't good for the planet and you need to drive an EV for 5 years to pay back the CO2 used to make it. You obviously drive an EV.
@@RBcymru Oh no, in the UK it's just under 2 years, Norway its about 8 months, the US around 2 years. It all depends on the cleanliness of the grid you see, but the good news is that as grids get cleaner so those numbers come down. ICE cars not so much. With the CO2 from building, the tailpipe emissions every time the key is turned and the fact that the production and transportation of petrol adds 20% to the lifetime total of an ICE, I've always felt that anyone throwing that particular accusation about really needed to sit in the corner and have a good long think. Glad you like the Seat though. Most 2022 Borns still sit above 20k, except the high milers. And whilst they may not lose 30% of their range, ICE cars are still subject to the laws of physics so are affected in the same way. Mine doesn't lose 30% either, but that's not exactly a good sample size is it. ICEs have only one advantage - size of fuel tank. A direct result of their inefficiency, I'm afraid. And that's a fact that hasn't changed since Model T days
@@oldgit15 I know of many ice cars that are over 15 years old and still do 400 miles to a tank. Yes tail pipe emissions are a concern but so is the CO2 used to manufacturer an EV. Tyre wear is a bit of a myth as some EV's do 20k miles on a set just depends how you drive just like an ice car. A low miles per year EV will take longer to pay back the CO2 but you also need to add the source for the electricity charging the EV. Most home charges are at night so charged by burning gas and some nuclear. If you compare an EV to a modern petrol over 10 years and two EV batteries the petrol car actually has less pollution due to the electricity used to charge them. The other factor is you are tied to the main dealer with an EV as a lot of the car is linked to the HV battery so if touched you could void your battery warranty. I bet you weren't told that ? Also replacement batteries within the 8 years are reconditioned ones and NOT new ones. The car is not the problem its cheap air travel and everything being shipped from China.
Brimmed our XC90 B5D, attached the 1900kg twin axle caravan and travelled from Tamworth to a caravan site in Launceston (230 miles) with two comfort breaks. Drove a further 150 holiday maker miles before deciding to top up again as only had 100 miles range left. EVFMA
My Octi was getting a bit upset at 100k (62miles) yesterday and gave me 'range anxiety' at it was down to 60 by the time I got home. Nipped out to Tesco, where the pumps were a little busy so spent 10 mins doing a bit of shopping then thanks to my magic fuel tank which now holds at least £70 worth of diesel (used to be around £60) I had just under 1000km of range so 600 miles. I was out for at least 40 mins and quite relaxed when I walked back in.
Took my son back to plymouth uni from watford, full tank of diesel, 3 hrs 20min in Plymouth had breakfast with him, and walked to the sea front before heading home, 4hrs 12mins back in bushey watford, used a tank of fuel and about £20 extra, 773 mile round trip in under 10 hrs, enjoyable drive in a alpina d3 biturbo
I've no idea of the per trip, per hour, or per mile pay basis for vehicle deliveries, but surely a car transporter or a trailer would be a faster and more practical way to move lease cars?
Wow!! Great to see and hear a Cornishman. Travelling through Brea, Camborne etc, magic. Talking of magic, I wonder if they the powers that be will give us all battery powered magic carpets, seems to be as much use 😱🤣. I have been really keen on changing my 6 year old Mercedes for a new EV. As an aside it has been in the dealers 5 times since new, that is 5 services, one a year. Oh!! yes a couple of tyres and a new battery. After the research I have done and what I have heard from you guarantees NO EV for me. The whole concept is flawed. Many thanks from a fellow Cornishman 😄🌞
I promise myself to watch this video, excruciation experience for you but a good REMIND FOR ME; ...what I will have to face if ever I will get forced to buy an EV... THANK YOU for sharing your experience!!!
The Renault Zoe costs from £30,000 to £32,000. Now I know most people will lease these things but you could buy several classic Renault's for £30k and still have change, take your pick; 5 GT Turbo, R4, GTA, Clio Williams, 21 Turbo, 19 16v....
@PeterOgden-h1k I know that it is difficult to understand much of the gibberish emanating from the anti-EV crowd but exactly why is being an experienced EV driver amusing?
Thanks. When you started talking I heard your accent and thought ooh 320 miles is our trip to my family in the new forest from Penrith, I wonder if you are coming north. I just had to scrap my fantastic little 2007 diesel Toyota Yaris, only got 184,000 miles out of the chassis, but the engine will probably go to Africa as it's still going strong. I'm reluctant to go electric because of the ethical issues. But they just aren't good enough. Thanks for the entertaining information!
The range they claim in the brochures is not the real world figure that an EV will do, they do that range if you have nothing but the motor working and travelling at a certain speed, for example 30MPH, but get it on the motorway and the range will possibly drop as the motors are spinning fasters which, IMO, requires more power to be used from the batteries.
I read somewhere recently that one of the reasons Germany is seriously considering limiting the last remaining stretches of derestricted Autobahn is that the milk-floats can't sustain high speed so are causing a hazard by trickling along at 100km/h while others are passing at 200Km/h.
I was offered a free ten day trial but no good as I don't have a home charger and I'm not sitting in some local supermarket or car park waiting to charge it up. What a palaver.
This range issue your pointing out is the real reason speed limits in countries like uk and new zealand were being lowered under the pretext of road safety
As annoying as that is, at least it's saving a tiny bit of petrol and diesel. Though 20mph is fine for schools, homes and hospitals. Not for entire towns and villages. 25mph would have at least been a happy middle.
They’ll be trading in Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROGs) which are promoted by Ofgem, so they can cross balance financially between their purchase of renewables and sales of it (not in real time) each year. Lots of utility firms do this, but it does look a sleight of hand.
And to think you missed waiting for a charger and then waiting in a cold car or if you were lucky you could have spent unnecessary money on a coffee and some food.
I figured the problem at the first charging station was twofold: no sunlight for the solar panels, and maybe the wind stopped so the turbine wasn't producing either? 🤣 Can't charge you up if there's no incoming voltage! LOL
Loving my 14 year old diesel still average 44 MPG. Fills up in less than 5 mins then about 550 anxiety free miles ahead, to enjoy how little its depreciating 😂
My Zoe easily does 160 in extreme winter condition, 220 in summer. Why did you not stop at the Tesla public Supercharger at Lifton (16 superchargers) 62p per KWH? Any reason why you didn't charge to 100% at home? Zap map shows loads of charging options along the way. I think you've taken a leaf out of the McCrapster's book.
If using as a family car and on holiday, with 2 adults, 2 children, enough luggage for a long weekend and possibly a bike or 2 strapped on the tailgate. What range would you get ??????????????
Every diesel and petrol car laughing out loud at these things 😂

My Leon was £13000 and its immaculate limited edition with a 2 year SEAT warranty and 50 mpg Anyone owning an EV is in for a lot of pain but I had the sense to get out. Leasing isn't good for the planet and you need to drive an EV for 5 years to pay back the CO2 used to make it. You obviously drive an EV.
@@oldgit15 Also my ice car doesn't lose 30% range in winter.
I'm so happy he had a nice day...
EVFMA
Putting Tony in an EV is the epitome of putting a square peg in a round hole 😂. I drive a 1.4 turbo Vitara and it goes like stink, I’m blessed!
Good having no charges in Cornwall..free space up for us petrol folk
😂😂❤🎉😊
Future my arse.....Milk Floats are the future....Not...🤔😏🇬🇧
My old clio diesel would usually do over 80mpg on motorway trips - brilliant car.
Nice motor that 👌🏼
@@Dan23_7 thanks Dan
Can make cheap cars when you miss out the engine...oh wait....they cost more!?
I've no idea of the per trip, per hour, or per mile pay basis for vehicle deliveries, but surely a car transporter or a trailer would be a faster and more practical way to move lease cars?
The Zoe GT, so called because every journey you make will seem like you have been on a Grand Tour of Europe! 🤣
Probably one of your best videos Tony... 👏🏻
Keep putting out the content😊
It would be quicker on a push bike 😂😂
I promise myself to watch this video, excruciation experience for you but a good REMIND FOR ME; ...what I will have to face if ever I will get forced to buy an EV...
THANK YOU for sharing your experience!!!
Reno Zoe. What a joke😂
The Renault Zoe costs from £30,000 to £32,000. Now I know most people will lease these things but you could buy several classic Renault's for £30k and still have change, take your pick; 5 GT Turbo, R4, GTA, Clio Williams, 21 Turbo, 19 16v....
Your a very funny man 😂😂
As an experienced EV driver who often goes on long European journeys i would love to know why none of these things ever happen to me.
Experienced ev driver ffs never laughed so much 😂😂😂
@PeterOgden-h1k I know that it is difficult to understand much of the gibberish emanating from the anti-EV crowd but exactly why is being an experienced EV driver amusing?
How you manage to be clean shaven at the end of the vid?😂😂
The range they claim in the brochures is not the real world figure that an EV will do, they do that range if you have nothing but the motor working and travelling at a certain speed, for example 30MPH, but get it on the motorway and the range will possibly drop as the motors are spinning fasters which, IMO, requires more power to be used from the batteries.
The WLTP figures are meaningless. Obtained in laboratory conditions I believe though could be wrong.
Fun fact the train doesnt stop at cambourne on wednesdays 😬 iykyk
I came here looking for this very comment! Well played sir.
What happened was!!
When the Vauxhall Adam and Renault Zoe get it on in the carpark/charging station, you get the...Vauxhault Zodam!
I read somewhere recently that one of the reasons Germany is seriously considering limiting the last remaining stretches of derestricted Autobahn is that the milk-floats can't sustain high speed so are causing a hazard by trickling along at 100km/h while others are passing at 200Km/h.
Good to see all those chargers being utilised 😂
These charging stations cables will be cut for scrap
Honestly, I wouldn't have an electric car if it was offered to me for free.
Same. You can't even sell it for profit either.
I was offered a free ten day trial but no good as I don't have a home charger and I'm not sitting in some local supermarket or car park waiting to charge it up. What a palaver.
You definitely took one for the team alright.
Love how I got an Anderson ev charger ad. Jog on Anderson! I aint buying an ev ever. I'll get a horse.
It says that they are charging using 100% net zero energy. How do they guarantee that when the grid cannot differentiate?
They’ll be trading in Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROGs) which are promoted by Ofgem, so they can cross balance financially between their purchase of renewables and sales of it (not in real time) each year. Lots of utility firms do this, but it does look a sleight of hand.
But if you use the usb ports thats half your range gone.
And the EVangelists have their fingers in their ears shouting La,La,La as loud as they can.
They just can’t face facts.
I was really annoyed today I had 3 people in front of me in the petrol station. Took me 10 minutes to fill and pay. So annoyed it's usually 5 minutes
And to think you missed waiting for a charger and then waiting in a cold car or if you were lucky you could have spent unnecessary money on a coffee and some food.
Also 8 in Cambourne, 8in Penhale , 16 in Lifton, 24 at 2 sites in Exeter ! ranging from 41p to 45p per KWH
Anyone who buys an EV for routine real world driving and expects it to perform as per the T.V. adverts need their heads looking at.
There’s a nice charger on St Martins in the Isles of Scilly. Not sure if there are 3 or 4 cars on the island!
Council logic
I figured the problem at the first charging station was twofold: no sunlight for the solar panels, and maybe the wind stopped so the turbine wasn't producing either? 🤣 Can't charge you up if there's no incoming voltage! LOL
Loving my 14 year old diesel still average 44 MPG. Fills up in less than 5 mins then about 550 anxiety free miles ahead, to enjoy how little its depreciating 😂
Same here only with petrol and all the car you'll ever need ie Golf MK7. 😊
Not many people charging there, how long before some of these charging points are decommissioned due to lack of use?
I done a trip from Sarn J36 M4 to Truro in my ze40 and took 6 hours instead of 4 but only cost £10 and a nap whilst it was charging 😴
it was charging at 30kw, it had delivered 9kwh of charge
My Zoe easily does 160 in extreme winter condition, 220 in summer. Why did you not stop at the Tesla public Supercharger at Lifton (16 superchargers) 62p per KWH? Any reason why you didn't charge to 100% at home? Zap map shows loads of charging options along the way. I think you've taken a leaf out of the McCrapster's book.
Check the EURONCAP CRASH TEST for Renault Zoe ,its a DEATH TRAP if failed miserably
If using as a family car and on holiday, with 2 adults, 2 children, enough luggage for a long weekend and possibly a bike or 2 strapped on the tailgate. What range would you get ??????????????
The end of your road, is there a place you can camp ?
Worst, just within a walking distance to your house😅
So how do you get on if your only allowed to so many road hours.
Hotel costs?
My brothers stepdaughter has a Zoe, she said it's the worst car she's ever had for charging and things going wrong etc
