Instead of this heavy battery with crap range carry on, if only someone would invent a car with an internal combustion system. You could put a certain type of fluid in, literally in minutes, and you could drive 4-500 miles, and generate heat and even have aircon with no worry at all. I think it would be a great hit.

I have a 2006 Citroën C4 Turbo diesel. Best car I've ever had. It does about 800 miles on a full tank, does 70MPG with normal driving and at 160K miles the engine runs like a sewing machine. There is no way I will be trading it in for an EV.
@@DodgeCity111No it isn't. I've noted the diesel I've put in the car since I bought it and the distance I've travelled. It does 70 MPG and I can do 800 miles on a full tank without ever running out, so the reserve is over and above this. It has a 60 litre tank.
I also have a Citroen C4 VTi turbo diesel and get very similar results, never less than 60 mpg and 750 to 800 on a tank full. I Bought that car new 12 years ago and it’s way to good to swap yet. @@williamgeorgefraser

The motorcycle tanks on my bikes are over 30L. They’re more hazardous than a 20L brand new metal jerrycan. The law is an ass.
@@GT380man My bike tank is 19.4 litres. It and its mounting is fully type approved. Which is what counts. I am no longer involved in fuel sales. But the sites Petroleum Licence restricted sales to :- A maximum of 10 litres to be dispensed into a container designed for the carriage of petrol/diesel. To stay within the terms of the Petroleum Licence we could only allow the filling of one container. A customer could use a Jerrycan but the pump had to be turned off if the fill went over 10 litre. It’s one of the things Trading Standards used to look out for. A Petroleum License is in some ways like an a alcohol license. Loose it and your fuel sales are stopped. Don’t know if it’s still the case but Trading Standards were even allowed to padlock pumps. Have people storing over ten litres OKed it with their insurance companies. If they haven’t it may adversely effect of a fire claim. Excessive fuel storage is something that will appear in a Fire Brigade report.
Can you imagine your wife or daughter at night in a dodgy car park by themselves doing a 2hr charge if it works how vulnerable will they be ? This is madness.
We drove from Eastern Bulgaria to the Scottish Highlands via the Rotterdam to Hull ferry. The border guards lost our car details so we couldn't cross into Serbia. We had to go home and fetch the spare document. 420 extra miles I hadn't planned for. Our 2009 Focus 1.6 Zetec purred like a kitten to Budapest on the second night which meant, despite the extra mileage, we made it to Rotterdam with 1 hour left before the check-in closed. Somehow, it occurs to me we might not have made it if we'd been stupid enough to own an EV.

The Citroen doesn't have a great range and is best used for short runs. My EV has a better range. I can drive from the north west to Southampton without charging. Ranges are increasing all the time. I hope that helps.

@@keegan773 it depends if your car has a heat pump or not. Newer cars do but I don't think Citroen do. With a heat pump, there is little loss. I've never had a problem. The car is fast, cheap to run and I don't need to fill up at petrol stations: it's so convenient charging at home. I've also only had to queue (briefly) twice for a supercharger. Battery degradation is about 1pc a year which is minimal. There are Tesla's on the road with well over 200k miles and the clock and no battery issues. I hope that satisfies your queries. Don't believe all the things you hear on biased social media.
I feel your pain with the delusionists. 2 have come out of their boxes to say you're wrong already , despite this video showing what a nightmare it can . They don't seem to get the fact that people buy what they can afford and have to use it for every journey, long or short, and ignore even a cheap ICE car would've done that trip easy as piss .

@@barryrathbone It doesn't though. Moreover, that's a margin of 10/600 or 1.6%. Compare that to an EV which might drop to 0 from 20 miles in an initial estimate of 150. That's an error of 13% and will catch people out as evidenced in this video.
I think all future EV's should be designed from the ground up as camper vans. so you'll have a nice place to have a nap or sit on the throne while waiting for charging. Let's face it, the ONLY way EV's work is if you can charge it at home during the night, and never, ever needs to go further than the max range.
I just took my Mini Cooper Electric, from London to Lands End and back, for a day out, that's a 600 mile round trip, with an EV with a max range of 145 miles, oh, and before leaving London, I charged it up during the day, at my local FREE EV charging point and this trip, went like a dream too.

@@mikehunt-w8u I set off from London, to visit Stonehenge, (its about 100 miles from London), stopping off to charge at Solsitice Services, Amesbury, to charge up, which took 25 mins, at 50 kWh, next stop, B.P. Honiton, about 78 miles from Amesbury, stopped for a toilet visit, consume some food I had bought with me and had a cup of coffee, and only charged up, while I was doing this, so it had zero impact on my journey time, next stop, Strawberry Fields Farm Shop at Lifton Devon, (ironically, Tony, who lives in Cornwall, and therefore MUST drive up the A30, on a very regular basis, said durin gobne of his videos that, there arent any fast EV chargers between Bodmin and Exeter, Lifton is about halfway between the 2, LOL) its a massive farm shop, so while on a pre planned stop there, to do some shopping, purchasing large amounts of Luscombe organic drinks, that I can get in London where I live, as its only 60 miles from Honiton and my Mini Cooper Electric, easily manages to do 4 miles per kWh, of battery, it would ahve required about 15 kWh of electricity, and the Pod Point charger was a 50 kW one, it would have taken 20 mins to get it to 99%, and I was shopping for that 20 mins, so once again, that charging stop, had zero impact on my journey time, I did actually stop before Lifton, at Postbridge, to check out the Bronze Age bridge and gift shop and information center, I could have charged up there too, as there was a 7 kW, Pod Point charger in the information centre car park, but I couldn't be bothered to do that, from Lifton I drove to Tintagel, to visit Tinagel Castle, spent some time there too, without charging, then drove on to Lands End, about 100 miles in total from Lifton, I know there is a Gridserve EV charger at Lands End as I've used it before, so I just slapped my Mini Cooper Electric on charge while I checked out the local area on foot, so on the way back, I left Lands End on a 100% full charge,. stopped to charge at Lifton, again, I was getting a bit tired by then, due to a diversion off the A30 earlier that evening so a 20 min charge break came in handy, next, I stopped at Exeter Services, for 2 coffees, one to drink and one for the flask for later, 20 mins and I'm back on the road again, for the A303 to Amesbury, and NOT the M5, M4, Bristol, London, as that A303 at night, keeps you wide awake, last charge stop at Amesbury, for 25 mins, a coffee and cleaning the mud out of the car, and giving it a vacuum, with my portable mini vac, from there, it was a 2 hour drive to my home in London, arriving home after 690 miles, with 25 miles of range left, (I'm an ex international HGV1 driver, so I KNOW exactly how to organise a long journey, no matter what vehicle I'm driving) as for the "range" of my Mini Cooper Electric, I know it will easily do, 100 miles in mid winter, at 72 mph, with the wipers, lights and heater on, off 70 mph roads, it will easily do 120 miles and in the summer, off 70 mph roads, it can do 170 miles, at the speed limits, (thats 22 in a 20, 32 in a 30, 42 in a 40, 52 in 50, and 62 in a 60, to me, so I NEVER have to worry about speed cameras either), and not below the speed limits, the car I had before I bought my Mini Cooper Electric, was a Mini Cooper 1.6 litre petrol, so it was easy, to compare these 2 very similar cars, as they are basically, EXACTLY THE SAME, other than their engine/motor and drivetrain, and the Mini Cooper Electric, shits all over the Mini Cooper ICE, it even outperforms, the John Cooper Works Mini too, the quality of the Mini Cooper Electrics handling is superb on all fronts, each week, I usually take it, 30 miles outside London at night, for a 20 mile spin around a forest, especially when its either, freezing, snowing, thats a bit rare, or when its pissing down with rain, as "its just like being on a Rally" (the B roads through Dartmoor in Devon between Exeter and Lifton, were just as twisty, and up and down some steep hills too), oh, and while in London, I charge up my Mini Cooper Electric, for FREE at my local 500 meters from my home, EV charging point, so it really is "incredibly cheaper to run, compared to a Mini Cooper ICE too".
This shows you don't know how to operate an EV. You use an App to identify charge locations before you travel. In a gas car you fill up and drive until fumes and look around and refill. Cool. Works great. You simply manage the gas tank. In an EV you manage the destination. You set the charge location with an app with maybe a backup. The cars nav system will take you there and will calculate what you'll have in battery state of charge etc. It's just a different mindset. If you drive an EV until near empty and then look around for a charger you're doomed. If it's too hard to learn a new way of travel than yes, by all means stay with a gas car.

@@Norfolkbiker50 I just drove north to south in Thailand with a Tesla model 3 and the charging infrastructure (while still in development) sufficient enough for that negative scenario not to occur. I drove 31 hours total, 2,200 km, and charged 6 times. I did find 2 chargers not functioning. But the one next to it worked. I assume you live in USA? Technology utilization can be very different in various geographies. I have no concerns driving anywhere in this (less developed) South East Asian country in an EV. Apparently its easier/practical here than more advanced countries in the west. At no time am I concerned I would be in difficulty. Here the charge locations of course are all identified in numerous Apps. The most popular charge network (EV Pluz) has partnered with Thailands largest state owned oil company PTT. The larger locations will have EV chargers and have huge signs also identifying that feature. Frankly I hate the use of Apps and the Tesla chargers are preferred but they are still rolling out their network. I just ordered my 2nd EV an MG Cyberster a cool dual motor 2 seat Roadster. But operating an EV means to manage the "destination" so planning the charge location near where your going is the first order of travel. A gas car you fill up and manage the "tank", drive until fumes and look around for gas and fill up. Cool. Very convenient no doubt. Use the same process in an EV and it's a recipe for stress! 😁 I have now 30,000 completely trouble free miles with about 8 days of those travel beyond the cars EV range. The other 357 days are charged from home. That's 97% of my days leaving home everyday with at least 285 miles range as I top up every night while I sleep. (I only need like 50 daily) So, for me in my "use case" an EV works. My brother on the other hand lives in an apartment and is an "on the road salesman" . I think he should stay away from an EV with a 10 foot pole. It would be too inconvenient taking 25 min to charge when a gas fill up is less than 5. EVs,,,, fascinating,,, but clearly not for everyone.
@@Norfolkbiker50By the way the App has lots of real time information. It tells you if the charger is out of service and it let's you know if it's occupied. Etc. When traveling a route can be input into the car or App and it will automatically create the most efficient route and will inform what state of charge you will have at each charge stop and how long you need to charge for. Unlike a gas car it's not practical to "full up" at every stop. I drive about 5.5 hours straight between charges and I'm ready for a bathroom break, food, and a few messages and in the 25 min I'm soon out. I guess Thailand has thought this through. Last year 75,000 EVs sold in basically the 1st full year of introduction. The 2nd tear sales direcast is for 140,000 units. But these being attractively priced Chinese makers. The recent Motorshow was packed and more than 10 Chinese auto companies with prices and product equal to their gas counterparts. It's a fun experience seeing this grow. But here too many folks (pick up truck market) should stay with gas.

Incidentally, I have a 2019 1.6 Diesel Citroen C4 Cactus and get over 1000 KM (approx 620 miles) of highway driving.
I used to work for a motoring organisation and around 9 years ago, I did a range test on an I3 with a range extender. The aim was to not use the extender motor, but obviously, it didn't work out. I was sent to 2 non existent chargers, 1 I found was broken and had to result in using the motor. Useless, and that was only 160 mile round trip the off M25 to Hampshire. I feel for you, it looks like absolutely nothing has improved. Future my arse indeed. Keep up the videos Tony, excellent

Think of this for a minute, how many fully grown adults did you used to see sitting in shit hole carparks while their life drains away before EV's were invented. It's fucking mental behavior whats going on. Anyone who gets an EV knowing at some point it's going to force them into a scummy capark needs a check up from the neck up. I agree if people have bought privately and need to do any long trips, but don't forget many company car drivers have been forced to switch to save £££ on BIK tax. I have a BMWi4 and so far have been able to plan all over the UK - OK yes some longer stops than I'm used to but I always plan for fast DC charge, and when it saves me £400 taken in tax every month out my pay packet I'm OK with that. I would never have gone EV unless it was the tax bribe.
They'll become hotpots for muggings. I bet there's no single women sat in them at midnight like a sitting duck. Next there'll be big cages round the charging areas and security booths to pay for. And another 1 million cctv cameras. It's beyond farce.
If I had to take electric garbage across the country regularly I'd buy a diesel car transporter and load them on the back because charging would drive me insane.
Why on earth anyone would want one of these things I'll never know, I can get in my 20 year old Citroen and do the full journey, no problem. Nobody yet has shown me any benefits for having an EV whatsoever. The only place they're half right is if you're in a city, and even then I'd sooner use proper fuel.
Well, I always hear them saying that these cars are so quiet and they love the torque 🤷🏻♂️. Plus the best thing is being able to charge at home. Few of these people acknowledge that not everybody owns a house
The reason people buy them is because they are fast and cheap to run. Range isn't really a problem. For the environment, it's best I think to stick with your Citroen but when you need to change, I would suggest you should at least consider an EV.
@@jledge8715I drove 6.5 hrs in my EV. From Toulouse to Cassis, east of Marseilles. Stopped twice, once for a coffee break and once for lunch, 17 and 24min respectively. Car was charged before I was ready on both occasions.
I fill my 50cc scooter up twice a month, I do 20km a day. It's costs me 20 euros a month in fuel and 25 euros in insurance. I know what I'm sticking to for my city commute.
---and you don't spend ages at the pump when you do fill up. My wife's Honda 90 wouldn't even take a gallon and we filled up one day later week after week. 20 mile journey each day, home to work and back.

Lapping up content like this is, yes. EV's are progressing quickly. This car had already been updated so will now do a realistic 200+ miles, which for a small battery car is good.
It's not about the technology or range. It's all to do with tax. In the UK BIK tax on company cars dictates the market. A switch from a Mercedes E-350d to a Tesla MY LR saves me nearly £30,000 over 4 years. That's a lot of money. Which is in my pocket. Not theirs.
It's like flying a plane. You have to work out and file a flight plan (what route ru gonna take), work out alternate airports (chargers) for each of ur stop in case of bad weather (charger broken/not there/someone's house) all without any of the benefits of flying!

Saved from the brink! Apparently, dealers have to sell a certain number of EVs per month/year or get fined thousands for EACH CAR under that number that they don’t sell. I’m just glad I’ve got a Skodiaq which does 50mpg on a short run (with heater, heated seats, radio and climate control all on) 🤷🏻♂️

Sure they're great for inner city trips of 10 miles but for everyone else they're just not good enough. Be good to see what the charging costs are, I imagine 4 hrs charging on the public network I a bit more than than a C4 ICE costs doing the same milage.
Brilliant work in exposing this huge scam. They had the cheek to punish diesel manufactures on their emissions claims, it's only fair EV manufactures are punished for their incorrect range figures. If someone knowingly and willingly wants to buy a car that costs twice as much as a conventional alternative, has a range around half that claimed, costs 3x as much to insure and weighs twice that of the alternative, that's absolutely fine, and is their choice. If on the other hand, they find they have been mislead, then the owners should be compensated in full I would contact some lawyer chaps, it might put an end to this madness - " Did you buy an electric car between 2019-25?, if so you may be owed compensation"!!!,,,Great work!
The seats might be comfy but need more features, such as when charging the seat should automatically recline fully while a duvet & pillows pop out so you can have a kip for your inevitable long wait.
@@organickevinlondonIt's a diesel hydraulic, with no electricity involved whatsoever except for its auxiliary electrical system for lighting and control systems etc. Its Cummins engines, one beneath each coach, drive the inner wheelset of each bogie via a Voith fluid final drive by way of a cardan shaft. Sorry that the facts of a GWR Class 150/2 DMU don't actually support your myth.

Used to catch a Western up to New Street, then Class 47 traction stock to Doncaster, change for a DMU to Hull Paragon, and finally the twin unit railcar to Withernsea where my Grandfather used to pick me up via his Sunbeam S4 motorbike.
I've just bought a new Kia Stonic, mild hybrid so no problems with charging but if I was ever thinking of buying an electric car (which I wasn't) you have put me off for life.
I exprienced range anxiety by proxy the other week as I dont drive . How did this happen ? A bus pulled up at a bus stop , got on a bus , the driver got a low battery warning and asked everyone to get off.
What a nightmare. Last Friday, I drove the same distance 320 miles. Difference is I did 7 hours work at a customer site and got back home that night. And the other difference is that the car has a 1.5 litre petrol engine.😊

I cannot imagine how long and how many charge stops you would need to drive a milk float from Sydney to Brisbane, that's roughly 560 miles, I've done that in a rented ICE car, with 4 stops for food and 20 mins rest, in 10 hours, mind you hitting 155 kph on some parts, great vid dude

I remember old torch batteries they lasted no time and leaked. We moved through stages to alkaline which last 7 times longer and leak less often. I have now moved on to none rechargeable lithium batteries for torches etc which are another big improvement. Don't leak and have a very long shelf life. No doubt down the line more improvements will come along.
Did you see that Ozzy guy that went to LA to check put how wonderful the california charging scene was. He nearly topped himself it was so bad, even there! He handed back his rivian for a hybrid so that he didnt get stuck. In the original, That he was supposed to be reviewing, he spent so much time queuing and searching for avalable chargers that he had to go back later until 11pm and even then he couldnt so did a trickle at his airbnb just to be able to get to the charger and then had to go back at 6 in the morning! He didn't say exactly how much time total he took just trying to fill that once, but he swap;ed for a hybrid so i guess it was too much😊
did st ives to west yorks last summer in 7 hours and that was with 45 min traffic jam on m5, used about 2/3 of a tank of diesel to do 350 miles, mazda 6 estate 2.2l packed to capacity with camping gear
40 mph would use even less energy, 20 mph less still. There's a balance between getting there in a timely manner and driving slowly, especially in a piece of shit ev that does about half its range in real life and takes bloody ages to charge

What does happen when an EV runs out of battery power on a road? Yes it stops that I understand but how is it got to move it again? Does the AA /RAC come with a charger?
Just for a bit of balance, 650 miles from home to Goodwood in an Enyaq in the same time as I took in various petrol & diesel cars. Very easy, no charging or any other issues. The range you need is just a bit higher than your bladder capacity, so about 150miles. But, you won’t believe that, because your views are set.
So if you had picked up an ice car with 170 miles range (1/4 tank) it would have got you 170 miles and over half way before a splash and dash/comfort break.
if you picked up an ice car with 170 mile range that someone had been grannying around at 50mph and then you drive it at 80mph and accelerate hard, it won't do the 170 mile range initially stated. The range adjusts to your driving and consumption.
Naff milk floats. You know the rule about not letting the battery drop below 15%, and never charging past 85%, supposedly to optimise battery life, well how many people can actually stick to that rule? Also, having to charge several times on the same journey can't be good for the battery either, and using fast chargers is also not good for the battery as highlighted by Kim Java regarding a Tesla on one of her videos, they are only supposed to be for emergencies. You need an ECO money tree to pay for the running costs.
@@WestfieldFreshAir when I charge up my Mini Cooper Electric, it gets up to 97% then slows down a tiny bit, from say 5% to 97% it charges up at the same amount of time, per each 1%, 97% to 98%, takes slightly longer, which isnt really noticeable, 98% to 99% takes a little bit longer, but, 99% to 100% takes a lot longer, so I just usually charge up to 99%, IF I need to use my Mini Cooper Electric in a hurry,

Drove from St.Davids in Pembrokeshire to Manchester and didn't see one charger till i hit Oswestry.. i did see a few milk floats doing 40 in 60 zones with very stressed looking driver's though..
I was at my Uncles Birthday party on Saturday and the lady who was doing the catering had a Peugeot e2008 (same as the C4e but with a different body). We said it looked like a nice car, and she replied back, saying it was, but it's going back to the dealer as she found it the worst car she has purchased. I knew why she was doing it, and I guess it was due to the same issues as this Citroën.
Instead of this heavy battery with crap range carry on, if only someone would invent a car with an internal combustion system. You could put a certain type of fluid in, literally in minutes, and you could drive 4-500 miles, and generate heat and even have aircon with no worry at all. I think it would be a great hit.

I have a 2006 Citroën C4 Turbo diesel. Best car I've ever had. It does about 800 miles on a full tank, does 70MPG with normal driving and at 160K miles the engine runs like a sewing machine. There is no way I will be trading it in for an EV.

@@DodgeCity111No it isn't. I've noted the diesel I've put in the car since I bought it and the distance I've travelled. It does 70 MPG and I can do 800 miles on a full tank without ever running out, so the reserve is over and above this. It has a 60 litre tank.
I also have a Citroen C4 VTi turbo diesel and get very similar results, never less than 60 mpg and 750 to 800 on a tank full. I Bought that car new 12 years ago and it’s way to good to swap yet. @@williamgeorgefraser

@@GT380man My bike tank is 19.4 litres. It and its mounting is fully type approved. Which is what counts.
I am no longer involved in fuel sales. But the sites Petroleum Licence restricted sales to :- A maximum of 10 litres to be dispensed into a container designed for the carriage of petrol/diesel. To stay within the terms of the Petroleum Licence we could only allow the filling of one container. A customer could use a Jerrycan but the pump had to be turned off if the fill went over 10 litre.
It’s one of the things Trading Standards used to look out for. A Petroleum License is in some ways like an a alcohol license. Loose it and your fuel sales are stopped. Don’t know if it’s still the case but Trading Standards were even allowed to padlock pumps.
Have people storing over ten litres OKed it with their insurance companies. If they haven’t it may adversely effect of a fire claim. Excessive fuel storage is something that will appear in a Fire Brigade report.
Can you imagine your wife or daughter at night in a dodgy car park by themselves doing a 2hr charge if it works how vulnerable will they be ? This is madness.
We drove from Eastern Bulgaria to the Scottish Highlands via the Rotterdam to Hull ferry. The border guards lost our car details so we couldn't cross into Serbia. We had to go home and fetch the spare document. 420 extra miles I hadn't planned for. Our 2009 Focus 1.6 Zetec purred like a kitten to Budapest on the second night which meant, despite the extra mileage, we made it to Rotterdam with 1 hour left before the check-in closed.
Somehow, it occurs to me we might not have made it if we'd been stupid enough to own an EV.

The Citroen doesn't have a great range and is best used for short runs. My EV has a better range. I can drive from the north west to Southampton without charging. Ranges are increasing all the time. I hope that helps.

@@keegan773 it depends if your car has a heat pump or not. Newer cars do but I don't think Citroen do. With a heat pump, there is little loss. I've never had a problem. The car is fast, cheap to run and I don't need to fill up at petrol stations: it's so convenient charging at home. I've also only had to queue (briefly) twice for a supercharger.
Battery degradation is about 1pc a year which is minimal. There are Tesla's on the road with well over 200k miles and the clock and no battery issues. I hope that satisfies your queries. Don't believe all the things you hear on biased social media.
I feel your pain with the delusionists. 2 have come out of their boxes to say you're wrong already , despite this video showing what a nightmare it can . They don't seem to get the fact that people buy what they can afford and have to use it for every journey, long or short, and ignore even a cheap ICE car would've done that trip easy as piss .

When it gives you a range and you run out of battery before that point, the manufacturer should be obligated to recover the vehicle, free of charge.

@@barryrathbone It doesn't though. Moreover, that's a margin of 10/600 or 1.6%. Compare that to an EV which might drop to 0 from 20 miles in an initial estimate of 150. That's an error of 13% and will catch people out as evidenced in this video.

I think all future EV's should be designed from the ground up as camper vans. so you'll have a nice place to have a nap or sit on the throne while waiting for charging. Let's face it, the ONLY way EV's work is if you can charge it at home during the night, and never, ever needs to go further than the max range.
I just took my Mini Cooper Electric,
from London to Lands End and back, for a day out,
that's a 600 mile round trip, with an EV with a max range of 145 miles,
oh, and before leaving London, I charged it up during the day,
at my local FREE EV charging point and this trip, went like a dream too.
Thermal runaway would make me scetchy about sleeping in it😗

@@mikehunt-w8u I set off from London, to visit Stonehenge, (its about 100 miles from London), stopping off to charge at Solsitice Services, Amesbury, to charge up, which took 25 mins, at 50 kWh, next stop, B.P. Honiton, about 78 miles from Amesbury, stopped for a toilet visit, consume some food I had bought with me and had a cup of coffee, and only charged up, while I was doing this, so it had zero impact on my journey time, next stop, Strawberry Fields Farm Shop at Lifton Devon, (ironically, Tony, who lives in Cornwall, and therefore MUST drive up the A30, on a very regular basis, said durin gobne of his videos that, there arent any fast EV chargers between Bodmin and Exeter, Lifton is about halfway between the 2, LOL) its a massive farm shop, so while on a pre planned stop there, to do some shopping, purchasing large amounts of Luscombe organic drinks, that I can get in London where I live, as its only 60 miles from Honiton and my Mini Cooper Electric, easily manages to do 4 miles per kWh, of battery, it would ahve required about 15 kWh of electricity, and the Pod Point charger was a 50 kW one, it would have taken 20 mins to get it to 99%, and I was shopping for that 20 mins, so once again, that charging stop, had zero impact on my journey time, I did actually stop before Lifton, at Postbridge, to check out the Bronze Age bridge and gift shop and information center, I could have charged up there too, as there was a 7 kW, Pod Point charger in the information centre car park, but I couldn't be bothered to do that, from Lifton I drove to Tintagel, to visit Tinagel Castle, spent some time there too, without charging, then drove on to Lands End, about 100 miles in total from Lifton, I know there is a Gridserve EV charger at Lands End as I've used it before, so I just slapped my Mini Cooper Electric on charge while I checked out the local area on foot, so on the way back, I left Lands End on a 100% full charge,. stopped to charge at Lifton, again, I was getting a bit tired by then, due to a diversion off the A30 earlier that evening so a 20 min charge break came in handy, next, I stopped at Exeter Services, for 2 coffees, one to drink and one for the flask for later, 20 mins and I'm back on the road again, for the A303 to Amesbury, and NOT the M5, M4, Bristol, London, as that A303 at night, keeps you wide awake, last charge stop at Amesbury, for 25 mins, a coffee and cleaning the mud out of the car, and giving it a vacuum, with my portable mini vac, from there, it was a 2 hour drive to my home in London, arriving home after 690 miles, with 25 miles of range left, (I'm an ex international HGV1 driver, so I KNOW exactly how to organise a long journey, no matter what vehicle I'm driving) as for the "range" of my Mini Cooper Electric, I know it will easily do, 100 miles in mid winter, at 72 mph, with the wipers, lights and heater on, off 70 mph roads, it will easily do 120 miles and in the summer, off 70 mph roads, it can do 170 miles, at the speed limits, (thats 22 in a 20, 32 in a 30, 42 in a 40, 52 in 50, and 62 in a 60, to me, so I NEVER have to worry about speed cameras either), and not below the speed limits, the car I had before I bought my Mini Cooper Electric, was a Mini Cooper 1.6 litre petrol, so it was easy, to compare these 2 very similar cars, as they are basically, EXACTLY THE SAME, other than their engine/motor and drivetrain, and the Mini Cooper Electric, shits all over the Mini Cooper ICE, it even outperforms, the John Cooper Works Mini too, the quality of the Mini Cooper Electrics handling is superb on all fronts, each week, I usually take it, 30 miles outside London at night, for a 20 mile spin around a forest, especially when its either, freezing, snowing, thats a bit rare, or when its pissing down with rain, as "its just like being on a Rally" (the B roads through Dartmoor in Devon between Exeter and Lifton, were just as twisty, and up and down some steep hills too), oh, and while in London, I charge up my Mini Cooper Electric, for FREE at my local 500 meters from my home, EV charging point, so it really is "incredibly cheaper to run, compared to a Mini Cooper ICE too".

This shows you don't know how to operate an EV. You use an App to identify charge locations before you travel. In a gas car you fill up and drive until fumes and look around and refill. Cool. Works great. You simply manage the gas tank. In an EV you manage the destination. You set the charge location with an app with maybe a backup. The cars nav system will take you there and will calculate what you'll have in battery state of charge etc. It's just a different mindset. If you drive an EV until near empty and then look around for a charger you're doomed. If it's too hard to learn a new way of travel than yes, by all means stay with a gas car.

@@Norfolkbiker50 I just drove north to south in Thailand with a Tesla model 3 and the charging infrastructure (while still in development) sufficient enough for that negative scenario not to occur. I drove 31 hours total, 2,200 km, and charged 6 times. I did find 2 chargers not functioning. But the one next to it worked. I assume you live in USA? Technology utilization can be very different in various geographies. I have no concerns driving anywhere in this (less developed) South East Asian country in an EV. Apparently its easier/practical here than more advanced countries in the west. At no time am I concerned I would be in difficulty. Here the charge locations of course are all identified in numerous Apps. The most popular charge network (EV Pluz) has partnered with Thailands largest state owned oil company PTT. The larger locations will have EV chargers and have huge signs also identifying that feature. Frankly I hate the use of Apps and the Tesla chargers are preferred but they are still rolling out their network. I just ordered my 2nd EV an MG Cyberster a cool dual motor 2 seat Roadster. But operating an EV means to manage the "destination" so planning the charge location near where your going is the first order of travel. A gas car you fill up and manage the "tank", drive until fumes and look around for gas and fill up. Cool. Very convenient no doubt. Use the same process in an EV and it's a recipe for stress! 😁 I have now 30,000 completely trouble free miles with about 8 days of those travel beyond the cars EV range. The other 357 days are charged from home. That's 97% of my days leaving home everyday with at least 285 miles range as I top up every night while I sleep. (I only need like 50 daily) So, for me in my "use case" an EV works. My brother on the other hand lives in an apartment and is an "on the road salesman" . I think he should stay away from an EV with a 10 foot pole. It would be too inconvenient taking 25 min to charge when a gas fill up is less than 5. EVs,,,, fascinating,,, but clearly not for everyone.
@@Norfolkbiker50By the way the App has lots of real time information. It tells you if the charger is out of service and it let's you know if it's occupied. Etc. When traveling a route can be input into the car or App and it will automatically create the most efficient route and will inform what state of charge you will have at each charge stop and how long you need to charge for. Unlike a gas car it's not practical to "full up" at every stop. I drive about 5.5 hours straight between charges and I'm ready for a bathroom break, food, and a few messages and in the 25 min I'm soon out. I guess Thailand has thought this through. Last year 75,000 EVs sold in basically the 1st full year of introduction. The 2nd tear sales direcast is for 140,000 units. But these being attractively priced Chinese makers. The recent Motorshow was packed and more than 10 Chinese auto companies with prices and product equal to their gas counterparts. It's a fun experience seeing this grow. But here too many folks (pick up truck market) should stay with gas.

I used to work for a motoring organisation and around 9 years ago, I did a range test on an I3 with a range extender. The aim was to not use the extender motor, but obviously, it didn't work out. I was sent to 2 non existent chargers, 1 I found was broken and had to result in using the motor. Useless, and that was only 160 mile round trip the off M25 to Hampshire. I feel for you, it looks like absolutely nothing has improved. Future my arse indeed.

The reason people buy them is because they are fast and cheap to run. Range isn't really a problem. For the environment, it's best I think to stick with your Citroen but when you need to change, I would suggest you should at least consider an EV.

@@jledge8715I drove 6.5 hrs in my EV. From Toulouse to Cassis, east of Marseilles. Stopped twice, once for a coffee break and once for lunch, 17 and 24min respectively. Car was charged before I was ready on both occasions.

I fill my 50cc scooter up twice a month, I do 20km a day. It's costs me 20 euros a month in fuel and 25 euros in insurance. I know what I'm sticking to for my city commute.

Lapping up content like this is, yes. EV's are progressing quickly. This car had already been updated so will now do a realistic 200+ miles, which for a small battery car is good.
It's not about the technology or range. It's all to do with tax. In the UK BIK tax on company cars dictates the market. A switch from a Mercedes E-350d to a Tesla MY LR saves me nearly £30,000 over 4 years. That's a lot of money. Which is in my pocket. Not theirs.
It's like flying a plane. You have to work out and file a flight plan (what route ru gonna take), work out alternate airports (chargers) for each of ur stop in case of bad weather (charger broken/not there/someone's house) all without any of the benefits of flying!

Saved from the brink! Apparently, dealers have to sell a certain number of EVs per month/year or get fined thousands for EACH CAR under that number that they don’t sell. I’m just glad I’ve got a Skodiaq which does 50mpg on a short run (with heater, heated seats, radio and climate control all on) 🤷🏻♂️

Sure they're great for inner city trips of 10 miles but for everyone else they're just not good enough. Be good to see what the charging costs are, I imagine 4 hrs charging on the public network I a bit more than than a C4 ICE costs doing the same milage.

They had the cheek to punish diesel manufactures on their emissions claims, it's only fair EV manufactures are punished for their incorrect range figures.
If someone knowingly and willingly wants to buy a car that costs twice as much as a conventional alternative, has a range around half that claimed, costs 3x as much to insure and weighs twice that of the alternative, that's absolutely fine, and is their choice. If on the other hand, they find they have been mislead, then the owners should be compensated in full I would contact some lawyer chaps, it might put an end to this madness - " Did you buy an electric car between 2019-25?, if so you may be owed compensation"!!!,,,Great work!
The seats might be comfy but need more features, such as when charging the seat should automatically recline fully while a duvet & pillows pop out so you can have a kip for your inevitable long wait.

@@organickevinlondonIt's a diesel hydraulic, with no electricity involved whatsoever except for its auxiliary electrical system for lighting and control systems etc. Its Cummins engines, one beneath each coach, drive the inner wheelset of each bogie via a Voith fluid final drive by way of a cardan shaft. Sorry that the facts of a GWR Class 150/2 DMU don't actually support your myth.

Used to catch a Western up to New Street, then Class 47 traction stock to Doncaster, change for a DMU to Hull Paragon, and finally the twin unit railcar to Withernsea where my Grandfather used to pick me up via his Sunbeam S4 motorbike.

I exprienced range anxiety by proxy the other week as I dont drive . How did this happen ? A bus pulled up at a bus stop , got on a bus , the driver got a low battery warning and asked everyone to get off.
What a nightmare.
Last Friday, I drove the same distance 320 miles. Difference is I did 7 hours work at a customer site and got back home that night. And the other difference is that the car has a 1.5 litre petrol engine.😊

You just advertised the main selling feature of EVs; one can safely smoke alongside the charger and have enough time to do serious numbers.

I remember old torch batteries they lasted no time and leaked. We moved through stages to alkaline which last 7 times longer and leak less often.
I have now moved on to none rechargeable lithium batteries for torches etc which are another big improvement. Don't leak and have a very long shelf life.
No doubt down the line more improvements will come along.
Did you see that Ozzy guy that went to LA to check put how wonderful the california charging scene was. He nearly topped himself it was so bad, even there! He handed back his rivian for a hybrid so that he didnt get stuck. In the original, That he was supposed to be reviewing, he spent so much time queuing and searching for avalable chargers that he had to go back later until 11pm and even then he couldnt so did a trickle at his airbnb just to be able to get to the charger and then had to go back at 6 in the morning! He didn't say exactly how much time total he took just trying to fill that once, but he swap;ed for a hybrid so i guess it was too much😊
did st ives to west yorks last summer in 7 hours and that was with 45 min traffic jam on m5, used about 2/3 of a tank of diesel to do 350 miles, mazda 6 estate 2.2l packed to capacity with camping gear
Top tip..... try doing 70mph (the national speed limit) with the cruise control on, 75mph will use more energy....
Funny enough I was thinking the same thing, even better if you can afford to sit at 55mph
40 mph would use even less energy, 20 mph less still.
There's a balance between getting there in a timely manner and driving slowly, especially in a piece of shit ev that does about half its range in real life and takes bloody ages to charge

What does happen when an EV runs out of battery power on a road? Yes it stops that I understand but how is it got to move it again? Does the AA /RAC come with a charger?
The RAC's "EV Boost system" for EVs that have run out of batteries uses a generator permanently fitted to their van's 1.9 litre Euro 6 diesel engine.

Just for a bit of balance, 650 miles from home to Goodwood in an Enyaq in the same time as I took in various petrol & diesel cars. Very easy, no charging or any other issues. The range you need is just a bit higher than your bladder capacity, so about 150miles.
But, you won’t believe that, because your views are set.
So if you had picked up an ice car with 170 miles range (1/4 tank) it would have got you 170 miles and over half way before a splash and dash/comfort break.
if you picked up an ice car with 170 mile range that someone had been grannying around at 50mph and then you drive it at 80mph and accelerate hard, it won't do the 170 mile range initially stated. The range adjusts to your driving and consumption.
We stopped on the M5 on Monday we stopped at a Taunton Services there was a bank of 8 fast chargers all fenced off, madness especially as it’s Summer
Naff milk floats. You know the rule about not letting the battery drop below 15%, and never charging past 85%, supposedly to optimise battery life, well how many people can actually stick to that rule? Also, having to charge several times on the same journey can't be good for the battery either, and using fast chargers is also not good for the battery as highlighted by Kim Java regarding a Tesla on one of her videos, they are only supposed to be for emergencies. You need an ECO money tree to pay for the running costs.

@@WestfieldFreshAir when I charge up my Mini Cooper Electric, it gets up to 97% then slows down a tiny bit, from say 5% to 97% it charges up at the same amount of time, per each 1%, 97% to 98%, takes slightly longer, which isnt really noticeable, 98% to 99% takes a little bit longer, but, 99% to 100% takes a lot longer, so I just usually charge up to 99%, IF I need to use my Mini Cooper Electric in a hurry,

I was at my Uncles Birthday party on Saturday and the lady who was doing the catering had a Peugeot e2008 (same as the C4e but with a different body). We said it looked like a nice car, and she replied back, saying it was, but it's going back to the dealer as she found it the worst car she has purchased. I knew why she was doing it, and I guess it was due to the same issues as this Citroën.

I'll keep with my 2017 mitsibushi asx it's a 1.6 euro6 diesel that is 35 quid a year tax about 60 quid for a full tank and 5-600 miles
