Sir, you only have to loosen the nut and tap the shaft to the left. This will allow plenty of clearance for the tool. I've been doing it this way for 40 years. When you're done, clean the threads on the shaft and the nut with brake clean or lacquer thinner, apply loc-tite, and torque to spec.
    I hope that helps.

A couple days ago i had a bike in to help a friend and the shaft would not tap over at all. Nothing like how the one did in my video easy as.. this would not budge so had to dremmel it then split it with a chisel. Is there a certain combination of things you do to make them tap over while the trans is in the bike ?

don't put that race back on- install the combination inner primary bearing / race assembly instead. The whole unit gets installed in the inner primary. You'll never have to worry about the race walking into the tranny again. All-Balls or Jims makes the upgrade kit.

A lot of people say it can be down to the auto primary chain tensioner tightening to much and puttin strain on the main shaft and bearing. A whining noise when the bike is in neutral but when the clutch is pulled it goes away is a symptom ive seen most. But obviusly always change the race and primary bearing as a race will wear with a bearing.

That is exactly my experience...I didnt have the clearance behind the race. I didn't want to remove the exhaust, drain the transmission oil, bang on the Trans shaft to gain the gap for the tool to pull the race...screw that. I used a 9v Milwaukee dermal and a cutting blade. Very carefully, I made 3 diagonally cuts, and with a chisel and hammer, boom it came off on less than 5 minutes.
