Slight caveat (I think)… while being able to use MLEs applies for every team, that MLE is smaller among taxpaying teams and wouldn’t be enough for Rob or Tisse. So it would have to be a team that is both not paying the tax and also has not dipped into their MLE yet. Correct me if I’m wrong though
This is correct. I started to get into "25 teams give or take... I guess take" but you've got it. It's still a wider field than the bigger contract guys but it isn't everyone. (It seems like the whole league is about to realize how hard transactions are in this market and if your team isn't already pretty good upgrades are going to be a challenge)
@ yup, completely agree. Definitely don’t intend to let my need to be the “well actually” guy undermine the main takeaway. Your point about the difficulty to make transactions makes it an interesting/fun deadline for the blazers specifically imo. They have guys they don’t need and with maybe some value in all salary slots with Duop, then Rob/Tisse, then Grant/Ant (and Ayton if you remove the “some value” qualifier). They have something to offer regardless of how the markets play out, and it’s (hopefully) just a matter of who, not if. Or maybe I’m wrong and it’s a repeat of last year, and we all collectively lose our minds on the afternoon of Feb 6
I don’t know whether Blazers management is 15th in the league or 29th. In any case, I think this serves as a dose of reality for the (predominantly casual) fans who think this team has a bunch of young future superstars ready to bring this team to contention. In reality, this team is just like every single other tanking team and is not the exception to the norm, and when they do finally stop tanking there’s absolutely no guarantee that this management will be able to get them over the hump. People are getting so caught up in the lore of not taking the Miami deal, asking for Camara in the trade, and trading a bad first for Grant (who was personally recruited by Dame, but good asset management nonetheless). Those are good things. But his track record also includes having a low initial evaluation of Camara before seeing him in summer league, giving away Norm for next to nothing, subpar performance thus far at the top of the draft, doing nothing in free agency, letting NAW walk, not negotiating the protections on the pick they got back for CJ, and of course infamously driving the greatest player in franchise history out of town in the first place. People need to remember all that too. No GM is perfect, but he also doesn’t seem to be so overwhelmingly savvy that the Blazers are the next Thunder. They are somewhere between the Rockets and the pre Mike Brown Kings
@livingthefight3539 hmmm, the Pacers taking Ayton.. I played with the trade machine, and here's what I came up with: Blazers send- DeAndre Ayton, Matisse Thybulle Pacers send- Myles Turner, Obi Toppin, Jarace Walker
@MrJjreid You clearly haven't watched him play much. Him being a backup has more to do with the amount of minutes we want to throw at an injury prone player. If he wasn't made of glass, he would start and play more minutes. Hes much better than Ayton, and he's looked incredible when he's played this season.
@@Taylorpacker1 He's not even close to the player Ayton is. Ayton averaged 18 and 13 against Rob in his career, while Rob has only averaged 5 and 5. Rob will be a backup if a team trades for him. Rob is a good rim protector but he struggles in the post, not a good rebounder and brings nothing on the offensive side of the ball.
@@MrJjreid Spoken like a true box score watcher. Ayton may have prettier box score numbers, sure, but what that won't tell you is how awful he is at the little things that actually impact winning. His screens are garbage, he doesn't roll hard, he has stone hands which causes lo ts of turnovers, he's lazy with boxing out which hurts the overall teams defensive rebounding (despite his own person RBD numbers looking fine by grabbing the easy ones) and only in his dreams does he have half the defensive impact of a Clingan or Rob Williams. His BBIQ is low, and his motor and effort are inconsistent. It doesn't matter if he averages more points and rebounds, actually watch the game and you will know who is better (not ayton).
@MrJjreid DA has a soft midrange and thats it. he plays big min & Rob isn't. Rob contributions per min all-round is huge. but he can't play much. If he could, he probably wouldn't have been here... he pass he can P&R he can play transition he can defend the Rim and go out of the paint. our only 5 who can guard vs 5 out... witch is why we get blown every time a team shoots well behind the arc. Rob makes other players better. but he can't play most of the time and thats a big issue. and why he is a BU
ROB ROCKS!
~ He's probably worth $1M just sitting on the bench chatting into Donovan's ear.
Keep RWIII. Absolutely keep him.
Invaluable skills and mentality.
Critical piece to properly rebuild.
Appreciate your takes as always!

lol yeah that last sentence is a doozy
@jonathanevers8019 if the only move the Blazers make this deadline is trading Duop for two seconds, we riot.

Rob would be great if history didn’t repeat itself!
If Phoenix doesn't get a guy like Butler they could probably use Rob as Nurk is just as injury prone. Orlando has the same issue with Wendall Carter.
Rob first can’t stay healthy and 2 we are not winning anytime soon kind of the wrong time table??
He has always been injured
Portland should definitely keep him. he's not going to bring in a first due to his health
Trade Ayton before RW3
All I want for Christmas is for the pacers to take Ayton and for a Simons trade. If it’s not too much fire Chaunchy!

@@rileymcphee9429 lol turner more valuable ayton and a better contract
This is delusional. Not a chance the pacers do this. Let alone add a pick? No
Sell high.
Rob is a top center. but he isn't healthy enough. yet I would keep him and move from DA despite that
Rob is not a top center. He's a backup center.

Honestly just happy to get off the contract
I love the casual rounding of $400,000😂
Blazer fan opinions are low on our own front office, why would we think anyone around the league would have high opinions… 🫤
