With over 30% of the season behind us, clear patterns are beginning to take some shape So far this season, the best three-player lineup has been: Avdija + Banton + Camara. Per-36, they are putting up impressive stats: 24:13 assists-to-turnovers, 12 stops, and a +15 (+/-) rating (3-Quarters score 96-81). This trio has impressive offensive efficiency playing together with 52%FG 45%3PT, with a rock solid defense holding opponents with 44%FG 30%3PT coming up next Clingan is the obvious choise in the paint. In my opinion, adding another ball handler to the current scheme could risk the Blazers returning to their tendency of forcing bad shots due to a lack of ball movement, so the last piece I'd add would be Sharpe - not to run the offense but to finish plays. Banton and Avdija running the offense together works significantly better than any other duo. Sixth man -> Scoot The raw numbers indicate that this should be the foundation of the team moving forward. Also, nice to haves: their ages are 20, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25 (average 22.1) I don't know how you're marketing Ayton ($34M), Grant ($30M), and Simons ($26M), but they need to be moved ASAP. Lower the demands if needed, settle for lesser picks, just get something in return. That's $90M locked up in the roster, which could be redirected toward a couple hard-working team-oriented players, or in an ideal scenario even two All-Stars
@@TomGotIt He scored 13 with only 7 shots and played good defense and got only 22 minutes. Grant was 1/12 and played 32 minutes. I don't understand what Chauncey is trying to do.
Deni isnt in a position and maybe not in character to be the go to guy. he like to share and make the team better in any way he can. this is great. this is also, in the current team, will never make him the go to guy. the ball just wont come back to him 99% of the times with this offence.
Advija got benched, so Jerami Grant got keep shooting bricks. We're supposed to thank Billups for ignoring game flow & bad lineup decisions when the draft lottery rolls around.
This was an excellent podcast Mike, truly loved it. You aren’t afraid to say what other local media won’t. You speak your truth and that’s why this show is awesome.
I think to this point it is obvious that Billups is not the coach for this team. I am pretty sure that he is on the last year of his contract, and coaches rarely want to coach on a one year contract so he is probably not that happy anyway.
Im a lakers fan in Australia and its plainly obvious that the 5 going forward needs to be. Scoot, Sharpe, Camara, Deni and Clingan. Ayton, grant and Simon need to go. If Simon stayed hes a hester 6th man only.
Scoot and Sharpe need to be starting together. Ant does not fit this team, and needs to find a new home. I think there are teams that could use Ayton before the trade deadline ends. The east is wide open, and I think we need to move those folks. Don't really care what we get back, just open up the line-up, so our younger players can get court time and build chemistry together.
Jody is literally making 100 million dollars a year to be the owner. If she sells the team, she doesn’t get any of the money as it all goes to charity. There is literally no benefit to her to sell the franchise. It sucks but that’s just the facts.
This team has never had an identity or direction since Chauncey got hired. How has the offense improved for example? Chauncey runs the same tired garbage with no innovation whatsoever. How is he actually the right guy to help develop these young guys?
Because most of development happens off the court and before the games. The offense is bland. But the 50/50 play (rebounding and loose balls) keeps this team from excelling and becoming stable. It's a personnel issue. They're missing key big men. Rob, DC.
Trade grant ant ASAP after deadline my starting 5 scoot sharpe toumani deni ayton\ cling klong.. I would even trade rob Williams holding onto assets to long is a huge mistake.. lame duck coaches players= poop sandwiches
Ayton is average. Wrong age demographic and a poor leader and decision maker. I would offload him ASAP. No one needs to go more than Ant and Ayton, for a bunch of reasons. After that, Grant and Rob are expendable, but more for trade value than anything. Chauncey as well now too, for a development coach. If these don't happen then we need ownership change
Ant needs to be traded for his sake. He is really a good offensive player and taking a ton of heat from fans because teams are teeing up on him to stop him. He needs to be a third option somewhere to shine and be loved because he's also an awesome dude.
Bring the fire! Mike, you are more fired up than the entire team. It really does seem like everyone on this team is on a lame duck season. Nobody cares, and they are just waiting for the tank to start, which is very sad for the fans and player development! I think you touched on it, but we really need our ownership to move on more than anything right now, and they are legally obligated to do so. What would happen right now if Pual was still alive? I don't think he would have just shrugged and did nothing. There are issues with the front office, for sure, some of the decisions are baffling but some of them are actually quite good, so it is hard to say everything is bad. Ultimately the ownership sets the table, and it is quite clear that there are no repercussions for the time being, so sadly we are likely on this train for a while :(
At this rate we will have completely wasted 2 years of development through losing and learning because we held on to Grant and Simons preventing the growth of the players we consider the future. Grant and simons are selfish players and we need guys who want to be part of an actual Team.
I always appreciate your nuance in connecting all the variables into an equation that makes sense. I’m sick of the members (or perhaps singular very vocal member?) of the media gaslighting fans into thinking they’re stupid for saying Chauncey is a bad coach while themselves (himself?) refusing to say that anyone other than the players are in the wrong (while also claiming those players are extremely valuable and should have frothy trade markets, but that’s neither here nor there). We need more pass first point guards in the Blazers media landscape (ignoring for a moment that a team consisting of nothing but pass first point guards would have a very hard time putting the ball in the hoop. Make of this analogy as you will)
As soon as Simon’s and Ayton are gone, the sooner this team will get wins. Simon’s needs to go first ,as we won’t get anything in return anyways. Who would pay him the kind of money he makes? Ayton can go in the off season as he still has value to some teams like Washington. Billups will have to go as well. He would be a great assistant coach but it’s pretty clear that he’s not fit to be in the captains chair, here in Portland. Grant should be moved as well. Portlands crazy for not trading for that first round pick from the Lakers. Scoot, (the big general) and the rest of the team are keepers. We need 1 more high level defender and 2 more scorers. And it would be nice to have an active owner who really understands basketball and basketball business. But first and foremost GET RID OF SIMONS. Folks, he is the elephant in the room. When he’s in the lineup the team is confused and out of sorts. It’s sooooo clear, just look at the numbers as a whole when he runs the point 💯. And to this podcast Billups is still here because we have nice ownership.. and for those who don’t know, business is cut throat, not nice. Respectful, but cut throat, just ask Mr. Cuban.
So mad about League pass, it's so stupid that I live on the Big Island of Hawaii and get the Southern California teams Blacked out. Ridiculous! Play the bottom of the bench to start over those who don't Hussle.

@chadmerrill2636 it's a shame. Physique / athleticism and mid-range game are all great, but his motor / desire / effort is low, and his he is actually regressing... Frustrating. I'm actually an advocate for DC as #1 and RW3 as backup. Don't trade Timelord.
If the team wants to build for the future, they need to replace the coach with one who instills team play and not hero ball in his team. Ayton must go, and bring in a real quarterback, and then we can start building an infrastructure for the future.
Think of how many blowouts have happened with Chauncey, how he still has a job is beyond me. He is not an NBA coach, was that two 60 point losses last season for example? What has Chauncey done to bring an improvement to his offensive schemes? Absolutely nothing. It’s the same garbage, and another wasted year in a supposed rebuild.
I expected to see Sharpe and Simons to show improvement from last season yet both have been a huge disappointment. Cronin and Billups shoulder a lot of the blame along with the veterans who are not winning players and nobody holds them accountable
I think since we have so many young and nuance pieces, we need to replace Billups now, in season. We need to bring in a veteran coach, maybe just for one season, to organize and define the team. Need to trade Ant ASAP, trade him to the magic straight up for Anthony and let Anthony rot on the bench. DA has probably the most value since he is elite rebounder, trade him straight up for Ben Simmons and let Ben play 10-15 minutes per game, he is still a good defender, can switch up. Grant is harder to trade because of his contract and current play. Keep Grant and hope that his scoring picks up and then trade him.
