A review of the new 3-Rail O-Scale EMD F7A & F7B Diesel Locomotives from Atlas O. More videos on the Eric's Trains RUclips Channel and at www.ericstrains.com
Growing up as a child I loved seeing Santa Fe diesel go around the Christmas Tree! And there were a couple of Christmas's where I received a Life Like Ready To Run Santa Fe H.O. Scale Set. Great memories!
The Grafton & Upton F7 has been OOS for mechanical issues for years. The railroad had transitioned to MP15s in recent years. The F7 and the Geeps are being stored in the yard until the railroad decides what to do with them.
Very nice Santa Fe F7s! One way you can tell the difference between an F3 and an F7 is the number of fans on the roof. F3s have four fans, F7s have five fans.
That extra detailing you reviewed on the B unit is the steam generator. On Santa Fe F units only the B units had steam generators for heating the passenger cars during the winter
ERIC!!!!! We need more reviews. You have done a ton last year so far like 5 this year. We know you have a lot of engines. You got to get these reviews going though. We want two a week plus bonus footage thank you. Please start getting some amtraks and do a subway too. We need to watch new things !!!!
Kevin Russ I have found that most wives don't give you any budget for their anniversary/birthday/Christmas gifts. So for the next occasion, buy her a matching A and B unit. Tell her you want to spend more time with her, and this will help. But don't worry, you will be spending very little time with her for a very long time.
Another fantastic review Eric! Atlas has done a great job again! I have always been curious, does having an unpowered B unit between powered units cause any problems? Thanks for another great review!
Hello Eric, I've been watching your videos for about 2 years now. Love them by the way, I really want to eventually come down to the Atlanta area during the Piedmont pilgrimage one day. I just have a question, do the big articulated steamers from Lionel have big overhang on 072 curves? My father and I are working on a suspended layout at the moment and noticed that one of the curves comes awfully close to the wall. Is there a certain amount of space I'm supposed to have in between the track and wall? Thanks.
That rear dummy coupler on the A unit seems like a huge oversight. If these were sold as A-B two packs that were meant to be run together and there was a functional coupler on the back of the B it would make sense. Having a dummy coupler on the end that would be the most likely end to be coupled to something seems counterintuitive.
Brilliant, entertaining & informative review. Many thanks. With the chrome plating mirrored sides, Atlas has certainly managed to answer the age old question about why the advance Lionel catalogue depicting the intro of their own F3 models in the 50's showed an apparent black finish. Probably the Lionel pre production models had a mirror finish that merely reflected the background making the sides appear to be black. Question: How has replacing the Lionel couplers on your models with scale fixed couplers worked out? Did you replace any of the rolling stock couplers? What is the minimum radius of the curves on your layout? Did you encounter any problems with the new fixed couplers? Thank you, Tom
Can you Review the Allegheny 2-6-6-6 Locomotive? EDIT: nvm i found a 5 month old vid about it EDIT Again: Can you make a update video of those post war engines in video blog 24 and 31?
How do you like these compared to the Lionel ones because I was thinking about buying those ones you bought too anything I should know before I pull the trigger
Hey Eric! I Really Like You And Your Layout! I Started Watching In Late 2014 Or Late 2015 And I Saw How You Did Open Houses. Do You Still Do Them? If You Do When Is One Going To Happen?
That was a good informational video, and understandable as you are selling them. It was not, however, a good review that told about the bad things in addition to the good. I would like more of a discussion about quality control, as I found several issues with my F-7s from 2015's run. The potholes were not well secured on those, and I had to remove the shells on all the units and properly glue them. Otherwise normal handling will result in them being pushed inside. Changing the batteries, if used on conventional running locos, involves removing the shell, and on the F-7s I bought the antenna wires are not long enough, so it is very easy to pop the antennas off the inside of the roof. Warning in the manual about that would be very helpful. I found the screws retaining the crew ladder steps to be loose, so when the shell were removed the ladders would tend to fall off. I found similar issues with loose screws on the California Zephyr set I purchased. The locomotives and cars of that set were really pretty and detailed, but very fragile and had poor quality control.
you know what would be grate is if you added the video you mentioned in the description/as a card/as an annotation so that your viewers don't have search for the video. I contemplated watching the older video you were talking about but then decided not to because I'd have to find a video that would most likely be berried under several months/years worth of videos.
Hey Eric would you know any dealers in O gauge over in Australia because I am really thinking on going to O gauge and mix it in with my already made HO scale layout but I'm also not familiar to shopping on ebay
Can you also run these with a transformer? I can't afford the TMCC remote or the Legacy Control System and I really want one for my birthday coming up.

Love the chrome finish.
Great review sir Eric these are very good units
Nice review
I love the fact you can convert Atlas and 3rdrail F units to fixed pilots. Wish that was an option with Lionel F units
Eric the horns on top are Leslie A-200's.
Wonderful review. I agree the fixed pilots make the engine.

Great review. I have this loco in A and B. I would like to get another A/B but wife has got me on a train budget.

It's been awhile since you've done Atlas.
Do the "B" units not have a "back-up" light ? I did not see any when the locos were running. Thanks !
cool
I know in Maine we have the ocs train which has two f units. I don't know if there f7s or f9s and also the north Conway scenic railroad has a f7a
hey Eric when are we getting another run through of your layout with updates?
I love f7s
Mostly santa fe
Eric did you know that they used the f7 diesel locomotive in the movie silver streak.
Eric can you get the southern 4501 milkado. That would be awesome
Eric - it's very hard to see smoke in this video. Do the B units smoke too or just the As?
Hey Eric the lionel GS-4 4449 is out :)🚂🚄🚅
These were manufactured in 1978
The f7 is my faverit
When do you think your next layout episode will be?
Can you Review the Allegheny 2-6-6-6 Locomotive? EDIT: nvm i found a 5 month old vid about it EDIT Again: Can you make a update video of those post war engines in video blog 24 and 31?
The Horn sounding here is a Leslie A200, if I'm correct
yes you are
Kansas City Southern uses FP9 units for their OCS trains
Eric have you ordered the new Lionel SP AC-9 Its supposed to ship this october.
Hey Eric I like the new train can you make a video on a 2 6 6 2t mallet next.
Benjamin Watson already done
ericstrains I mean the T like the unitah railway company used
ericstrains or the sante fe 2-10-10-2 I'm a huge fan of articulated engines.
You should get a Long Island railroad train
How do you like these compared to the Lionel ones because I was thinking about buying those ones you bought too anything I should know before I pull the trigger
Wish you got the Erie version so that I can make a Victorian Railways reference
Question, did Lionel come out with a southern F7 unit??
It's been awhile
Did you get any Atlas O SD40-2s?
Yes in ho : )
the southern pacific f7 paint scheme are black widow and daylight paint scheme. is there a southern pacific scheme?
Next thing you know, there's someone running an A-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-A set around their layout.
HOW DARE THEY NOT DO A SOUTHERN PACIFIC F7!!!!!
You'll most likely see a Black Widow in the next run. Forget about Bloody Nose scheme as this scheme never existed according to O scale importers.
What about the daylight one?
They never had daylight F7's. I wish they would do a bloody nose one, for I dont really like black widow
Well, what's this then?
farm4.static.flickr.com/3339/3455242814_bb758eebf3.jpg
an E unit. notice how looooong it is.

I’m not 100% sure but I think the F means it’s an F unit, still a very good video
Can you get Santa Fe passenger cars for them?
She's beautiful. I'm thinking weathering would be the only way to make it look more realistic but to me it would be heartbreaking to "dirty" it up.
You could try airbrushing dirt using watercolors and then wash it off pretty easily.

JOUE BIEN TECH I will, just haven't added it yet
I love the ATSF I was curious to when he'd review these, I like f7s, but what happened to the mth f3s
My father also owns some pannels off of the old super Chris dining cars
Can you do a review on a Ohio Central locomotive plz?
How cool would it be if Lionel would let atlas use legacy sounds. It’ll never happen though.
I have it in HO Scale
Where is the best place to get it
Hey Eric would you know any dealers in O gauge over in Australia because I am really thinking on going to O gauge and mix it in with my already made HO scale layout but I'm also not familiar to shopping on ebay
Unfortunately I do not know any dealers in Australia. Sorry :)
Ok no problem
12:48 Is that a crew figure inside the cab?
I ididnt see anything
Michael Bobb I don't know if it makes sense but if you look really close, I think there is a handpainted head of a crew figure. I'm not really sure
Third! Great engines!
Can you also run these with a transformer? I can't afford the TMCC remote or the Legacy Control System and I really want one for my birthday coming up.
Eric mentions running them conventionally in the video, that emerald means with a transformer. BTW look into the Legacy Cab 1 option if you can.
Andrew Jackson Alright thanks! I will look into it
Sounds like it came from trainz Sim 2010
What's purpose of the Mars light?
donyea williams To get people's attention so that they get out of the way of the train.
Running at night, that Mars light can look to an outside observer like a UFO as it hits the fog and clouds.
I have a rock island bl2
Needs 14 cars
And this a default engine in the game.
i have a wabash! sad they stop making them
Love them but have MTH El Capitan set
Prices seem shockingly low.
24:13 money
ABBA setup huh? More like the Santa Fe "Dancing Queen"
Yard man: Runaway B-unit
Swicher engineer: no it's a yard transfer
Eric please pin! I don't want to drown in the comments
Was that a joke?
Yes
IT IS A Passenger trian
