Great review. I'm glad Lionel got rid of the "Built by Lionel" marker on the side of their products. I never understood why it was there as it cheapens the authenticity of their products.
You killed me with the door seg. I am with you on that Bud, lol . I have spinning fan blades on my FM trainmaster from 2007 or so, they must have been experimental. I hope you pop the question with Lionel about thier Diesel horn issues. This is a very cool looking set . Thanks Domenic (:
I know this video is about a year and half old but I came back to take a look at it....the shots you did on the running session were REALLY GOOD! Not ones that you typically use and I thought it really added some character. Also, why do you not do shots featuring the hallway room bridge? You had some great shots years ago and it would be cool to see a great steamer or streamlined set go flying across again. Thanks for all you do!!!
Christopher E The shots on the bridge are difficult to get due to space restrictions which cause non-layout items to be in the shot so I don't do them as often as others. But if you like them I will try to incorporate them more often.
ericstrains it makes total sense. I know that is a tight spot and not a lot of "layout" real estate for background. I was just curious. There wan another shot you did in this video where you put the camera in the yard and it faced out. I know it had the display shelf with the pioneer zephyr and southern crescent and such in it but that was a really cool one too. Thank you for responding.
FANTASTIC review Eric!!!!!!!! It looks like Lionel did a nice job with this set! And I agree 100% the horn on this model sounds great! Anyways, thanks for the video bud and have a great day!
Nice review! The horn sounds almost exactly the same as my Lionel Legacy Alaska GP38-2 that I bought a couple years ago. It sounds a little bit similar.
Lionel didn't make a mistake with the door or wipers. Look at the early model 70MACs, such as BNSF #9400. It has the door on the conductor side, as well as the 4 wipers (instead of six on the later models), as well as the non-isolated cab. Lionel simply modeled the early model 70MAC, which had much more in common with the SD60M appearance-wise. Lionel doesn't always get everything right but they deserve to be defended on this one. Great review otherwise, though! I'm very happy with my BNSF model. Love the horn and engine sounds.
Great video Eric but one thing bothers me the headlight on the front of that engine with the silver inlet piece is it upside down or is that just me surely the peaks protecting the lights should be the other way round i e on top not on the bottom I am not an American train expert but it doesn't look quite right if you know what I mean I could be talking rubbish though looking forward to seeing more videos ☺
Hi Eric: A great and informative review. Your comments on the Conrail diesel were very interesting. The horn it possesses sounds similar to an older version of the Nathan or Burnett (Canadian built) MP5 air horn and it does sound much better than what Lionel has been offering.
Justin Voelker Not sure but weren't Holden and Burnett Canadian subsidiaries of Nathan? The Canadian versions, as I've been told, had more of a minor chord to their sound than did their American cousins. Check out www.dieselairhorns.com It has both pictures and sound files.
hey eric! i subscribed just a few days ago and was blown away at what you have done. You have put so much money and effort into something amazing. i hope that you will never have to move to somewhere else... would that be just a pain... how much does the MTH ny central train (the gray one, sorry i forgot the name, i know theres two of them) cost? what website would you say is the cheapest and best to buy 3 rail trains on? Thanks in advance and the best of everything!
Hey ericstrains could you do a review of the Norfolk Southern that is black and white if so thanks keep up the good work👍 if you can ericstrains this video is actually special for a friend of mine who actually likes the Norfolk Southern
Eric you are the best reviewer on you tube. I have enjoyed every video you've made. However you have an editing problem on this one. When you start to talk about the couplers on the cars the video goes back to shots of the engine from earlier and does not match the vocals. Just thought I'd let you know. Thanks for all you do for our hobby. George
Great review! Too bad Lionel did away with the "Built by Lionel" mark on their cars. I really liked that. But on the bright side, it makes it more realistic.
hi Eric, a cool video. i have been searching for Lionel Legacy conrail es44ac for the last 2 years and have not found it. Will you help me to find it and send it for me? In Indonesia it is very difficult to get the item and I will pay for it
Brick City Reviews It's not the same thing. When I say it can pull 1lb 10oz, it's a very generalized way of stating the raw pulling power. If I was a physicist I would probably know how to explain it better, but there are several factors that go into it. Yes, the box car weights 1lb 9oz, but it's on wheels, which reduces the amount of force needed to pull it. Basically when it comes to O-Scale trains, a good large engine should be able to pull at least 1-2 pounds, and larger heavier engines can often pull 3-4 pounds.
Brick City Reviews Now I remember the word I was looking for. The wheels and the smooth rails reduce the "coefficient of friction", which makes the cars easier to pull. Theoretically, if you had the train on wheels and rails with ZERO friction, you could move a massive train just by tapping it with your finger. So the goal is for the rails to be a smooth as possible and to have wheels that don't create a lot of friction (that's why they use roller bearings), so that you can reduce the coefficient of friction for the train as much as possible and make it easier to pull. On the other hand, when it comes to gaining traction to pull train in the first place, you need friction. That's why the engine sprays sand on the rails to gain traction. So it's an artful balance of reducing friction when needed and producing friction when needed.
Brick City Reviews greasing the rails wouldn't be smart, because the engines wheels would be more susceptible to wheel slip and the freight cars wouldn't roll any easier.
Love that blue! Conrail used to run through my area. The SD80's always went through my town.
Wow, beautiful locomotive. Love the colour scheme. Thanks for another awesome video.
Awesome review Eric! Watching this really made me want to expand my set. I love the new camera angles too!
Wow O-31 that's pretty tight for a loco like that
Go Big Blue! I want this right now, Conrail is fantastic
Great review and video Eric! Thanks for explaining the use of scale couplers. The boxcars look great!
Great review. I'm glad Lionel got rid of the "Built by Lionel" marker on the side of their products. I never understood why it was there as it cheapens the authenticity of their products.
Also, the silver roofs on the brown cars look awesome.
You killed me with the door seg. I am with you

I'm not a fan of Lionel's horn choice recently, but I bought a csx sd70 #781 and it's the best horn I've heard in a while
Awesome review Eric great job
I love the HI Cube Boxcars
Excellent review Eric, that's a great looking set.
Terrific engine sounds, and the horn is good (and different. (Latecomer here. Dec. 31, 2019)
i love the 86" boxcars i want to see how they load and unload they are huge car i seen some in cleveland like NS csx and i seen an old N&W
Amazing review Eric! Best reviewer out on youtube!
Nice review. Beautiful set, I have O54 curves, so this set appeals to me
Love yer layout eric

Can you upload a video on that Alaska GP38-2?
Face it guys: its because of eric we like o despite the third rail

Hey Eric!! Great review as always! Do you own all the trains you review?
Nice video!
Nice, we've got some new camera angles!

I agree with ya there
allegheny48 You mean a Nathan/Holden M5 horn
Justin Voelker Not sure but weren't Holden and Burnett Canadian subsidiaries of Nathan? The Canadian versions, as I've been told, had more of a minor chord to their sound than did their American cousins. Check out www.dieselairhorns.com It has both pictures and sound files.
Holden is the Original maker before it was sold and turned into Nathan Airchime. I think I got that correct

That horn is a Nathan old cast P5. I have a friend that has one

Great review Eric. How many locomotives do you have.
and ericstrains What are those little blue things in front of the windshield on the locomotive ?
There sand caps and there used to load sand into the engine for extra traction up hills and grades and so forth
Oh ok, Nice, and thanks :)
Elijah Pryor Your welcome.
The bell was very realistic!
Eric how does the SD70 chalk up to the older obe you currently owned?
Ugh,I love Conrail!!!
Ah Yes changing the door to the right side , time to kit bash ! YES !!!!!
my lionel sd70 ace rio grande heritage first run #1989 has almost the same horn
Long live Conrail!
Can that boxcar negotiate a 36” curve ?
Great review!

Why does my phone not turn on utube
Why does Lionel say the engine can pull only 1 lb 10 oz of weight, yet each car weighs 1 lb 9 oz?

So is it good to oil/grease a model train track? or will that interfere with the electrical connection?
Brick City Reviews greasing the rails wouldn't be smart, because the engines wheels would be more susceptible to wheel slip and the freight cars wouldn't roll any easier.
Aka the Godzilla horn
Conrail train horns sound like Santa Fe train horns
I'm some what early for this one
Eric, why don’t you ring the bells and blow the whistles or horns of each engine? Some people like that.
I do. 21:20
I ment while they’re going, Eric.
