I made a video not too long ago with my review on Mint Mobile wireless service (in short, it was great!). Had alot of engagement from folks sharing their experience with Mint as well as other wireless service providers.
I did, however, get some questions about their “unlimited plan”.
The question being... is it REALLY unlimited?
In this video, I’m going to talk about what you really get with that plan, so you can make a decision that’s right for your needs

I have been with Mint for many months and if nobody had told me the service switched from AT&T I would never have known. Well except for the $60 I save every month! If you are a data hog it is probably not for you. I am on wi-fi 2/3 of the time so never go over my limit
Thanks for the feedback! That has also been my experience.
40 gigs should be enough to go to and from work each month. Two jobs
I've had mint mobile service for about 3 months and yes I understood that your data speeds would be capped if you go over that limit but once you go over that limit it is terribly slow its next to unusable as a delivery driver I use a lot of GPS that's why I'm mostly use my data is in GPS and communication on my work app once you hit that cap you can forget it the speeds are awful once you go over the cap but the service you can't really go wrong but if you know you go over the cap you might as well choose something else
@@allenblaine2793 For the folks who want all-you-can-gobble data Mint is not a good choice. When I was delivering would def have went with a different setup
You should set up a vpn. That will make it faster
Hell back in 2021 the advertising board in America actually sued them and told them to stop advertising it as "unlimited", yet here we are and they're still at it.
Thanks! I have 3 lines with At&t's Unlimited data plan and I'm tired of the high cost and the fact that they're constantly throttling me during times when their network is busy, which is pretty much all the time! I barely use 4 gigs of data/month, while my parents barley use 3 gigs between the two of them. My sister and her family has been using Mint Mobile for the past 3 months and they don't notice any difference in service other than significant savings. I just signed us up today and our SIM cards come in a few days, I hope it's a least comparable to At&t's service, as it will mean that I'll be saving nearly $800/year🤯.
That's awesome! Hope the service works well for you!
Again that's every cell phone company cuz I've had them all and man do I hate talking to the representatives It's like you have to keep going through the same process over and over and over into you finally reach that one honest person that's like they don't want me telling you this I could probably get killed if I tell you this and they'll help you like basically tell you the truth and tell you like there's no fix or something like that I give those people like the best reviews but I know they don't even read them but they'll tell you all my transfer you to this person and The music plays and then one of two things happen The person picks up and tells you oh no yeah they give you the wrong information I'm going to have to transfer you or the line just hangs up and it's a big gotcha to your face but I'll tell you which one has the worse representatives is boost Mobile they now divided their company into three different companies and use each other to troll the world and make it hard for you to keep your number though make you wait like a month or so while still paying the line just to keep your number if not they'll give it to somebody else even though you're not getting any service cold world
I'm about to switch from AT&T to any other service and I'm thankful for this input. I'm curious if you have info or videos on the other wireless plans?
Hi Bobbie - I don't have any other content on this at the moment. Will plan for some in the future!
I'd have to agree. It's cheap and a little trashy.
Visible is a really good and inexpensive wireless service.
Normally on wifi often but in past months been driving all over and working site with no wifi. Slowly going up from 8gb (at the time) to now 15gb and now looking at 35gb ot just going to tmobile. Lately been using hotspot and 5gb aint gonna do it. Difference in cost from mint to tmobile would be roughly $400+.
Got a few more months to decide. What do ya think? Upgrade plan or switch provider?
Would probably say to upgrade plan to see if that suites your needs before going through the hassle of switching provider.
I have a question. Is it like every other service where if you go over the data cap one month the cap is reset the next month?
Yes, correct!
This is true, i bought a 10gb 3 month to test it out and is slow but you can watch RUclips video in the lowest quality and really blurry, sense it work. I'm planning to switch to MintMobile.
Thank you for sharing!
@@RichardWalls is a pleasure, I’m subscribing to see more videos from you, thank you for this videos I switch to Mint and I really love it.
@@jenovaizquierdo hows your experience with mint been
@@RichardWalls is a pleasure, thanks for making awesome video 😁, your video really help me choose Mint and I love it.
@@naturelife7536 so far is not bad at all, it feels like I have T-Mobile senses is the service Mint is using, but even better because I’m saving choosing to pay the whole year, will definitely pay for next year. If you have T-Mobile you will have the same service.
Yeah I spent some time digesting the Unlimited plan details and realized the "serious limitations".
Hi Izzy! Yes, it's a bit misleading, and unfortunate that most, or all, carriers use the same language.
I was considering mint mobile but since I don't have home wifi this amount of data isn't enough. In late 2022, all of these unlimited plans should be truly unlimited. Because I'm sure a lot of people like me are using data instead of expensive home Internet. I do think if you had home wifi this service is a great value. But for people like me it simply isn't enough data.
Hi Ronnie - yes, certainly need to consider other options of you're intending to use it as a primary internet access.
Home internet isn't that expensive. I pay $40/month to have home internet. I also don't rent equipment. I chose to buy my own modem router (sure I spent $80 on it but that was four years ago and I still use it and it's a lot cheaper than having a monthly payment for a modem router provided by the cable company).
Sure phone carriers are advertising unlimited data as "unlimited" when it's not really unlimited but ask yourself this question........why do you NEED unlimited data? Just my opinion, if you consistently reach the limit of your "unlimited" data plan you're spending way too much time on your phone.
@@ferg9401 I have to disagree it depends on where you are. In my area, there's like two internet providers and then T-Mobile home internet. The cable company charges almost $100 a month for basic internet. CenturyLink charges similar prices only with slower speeds. T-Mobile home internet is the cheapest with $50 but recently they've started saying their network tower is full in my area to increase prices. So, for someone like me without Wi-Fi, having unlimited data is necessary to keep me connected as my internet. And I'm guessing in these tough economic times, I'm probably not the only one cutting costs and using data on my phone plan to save from paying a ridiculous internet bill.
@@ferg9401 who do you use for home internet? Thanks
@@blur02 I use Xfinity and I pay literally $40/month for internet and cable. It never fluctuates
I signed up, doesn't work no matter what I have tried and Mint support has auto-hung up on me 9 times now.....10th time 65 minutes waiting ...and live agent promised agent and sent me back to silly virtual bot. Will Mint chat hang up on me a 10th time today? Give it a few minutes. So far no cell service and no support service.
I use my phone everyday for work with google maps.Would this be horrible for turn by turn navigation after I go over 35gb?
Hard to say. I'd recommend you consider a trial of Mint Mobile and 1) see how much data you tend to use in the first place to see if you run the risk of going over, and 2) purposefully go over that limit and see how well navigation works still. Likely wouldn't be the best experience, though.
Its unreliable ! Ive lost so much time and money due to this svc. Its cheap but ive gotten lost in places im unfamiliar with because my screen wont load , havent been able to use some savings apps because even loading that takes forever if it does. Good for someone who just uses for call and txt .
Pretty sure there is a data saver mode you can turn on, as long as the maps aren’t loading videos it shouldn’t use that much.
The unlimited is now 40GB a month. Which is great. I stay in Houston area and get great 5g signal. Switched from t mobile. Basically same coverage half the price.
Nice!!
40 GB data renew every month?
@@Davissonvieira10 yes.
If I get 15 dollar plan I will never lose my data ? I'm on tracfone now and mostly use wifi at home but I want to use it when I'm mobile. I'm n ot a mobile wifi data hog so I'm wondering if this is a great plan.also when I get the 3 or 6 month plan do I have to pay 45 or 60 dollars at once or per month to get service???
Basically when you sign up they give you 3 months of service at the 12 month rate. If you want the $15 a month plan to be $15 a month, you have to buy it in 12 month chunks. ($180) You can also turn on autopay in the app, and you will never have to pay a bill again. The data resets every 30 days, unfortunately no carryover.
Once it throttles down, is it still fast enough to stream 480p?
It could, but there likely would be alot of lag. It would not be the most pleasant experience. 😆
It could, but it would be better if you switched the phone to 3G as the cap doesn’t apply there and 3G speeds are 1.5 mbps which is 480p.
They only reason I am on Verizon prepaid is I can just go to the store if I have any issues with the phone .
That's certainly a benefit!
Switching from Metropcs $40 plan to Mint $30 plan and try to stick to WiFi for major streaming because I try to stay within the data cap.
Better deal or worse?
Looks to be a better deal, especially if you stick to WiFi for major streaming.
I'm getting ready to switch the entire $480 family from att to mint I think...
Edit- after looking at my kids use 50gigs data each per month I guess not.
You don't have wifi? Maybe they don't know to switch to wifi at home
What are speeds on Mint Mobile hotspot?
Varies greatly, basically the same speeds your phone gets, a little slower though.
can't you get around the throttling with a vpn?
Hi Chris - don't think so.
You can get around the throttling by switching to 3G if you have that- the vpn will only let you bypass the video streaming limit of 1.5mbps, but if you do that you will use your data much faster.
He said “websites that Don’t have a lot of dynamic video or imagery” nope mint mobile is disqualified immediately
Same would apply to any phone service after you hit your data caps; likely would not be the best experience.
visible...if you get decent verizon signal...has truly unlimited with no data slowdown...and no cutback on hotspot
Thanks for sharing! Have been seeing plenty of ads for that lately. 😀
I am switching from cricket to mint because I have had so many issues with cricket and it is only 30 $
Nice!
I just don't understand how they can get away with calling something unlimited and then it slows down after 35 gigs
It really pisses me off as a mint user 😤
Ya that's why I witched to t mobile go 5g next
I start the video and get a mint mooble ad
Been with Mint for 2 years and it's good, depending on the plan you get.
Tried the 4 GB one time cuz I was broke as heck and my phone couldn't even run Hulu or Netflix (wouldn't even buffer so I couldn't watch anything).
Other than those crappy 3 months, I've used the unlimited plan and it works well.
I'm able to run Hulu on my phone via split screen while I play Raid Shadow Legends (don't play it if you haven't before because they're money hungry jerks that won't listen to the community) at the same time and this is even after reaching my 35 GB cap. I also play One Piece Bounty Rush (also ran by some money hungry jerks, but the experience is way worse because of the newer & unskilled amongst the playerbase), and despite the crappy servers that the developers won't fix, I can still play the game and it takes a high quality connection to do so.
Can't purchase my plan theough the app since early last year for some reason, but customer service always helps me do it.
Nice! Glad to hear about the good experience!
That's every cellphone provider if you say otherwise you played yourself
Pretty much!
It's funny mint mobile laser commercial before your video but do you know what's the deal with all cell phone companies after being with them for a while no matter what you do your internet starts to slow down it'll be the first day after your payment and it'll work probably for a day or two and then I'll start to slow down again and I know I don't use that much data than I used to unless the Wi-Fi trick thing is just a front cuz on some cell phones they don't have the option to stop your phone from using your data instead of your Wi-Fi when the Wi-Fi slows down but even if I were to take that off it'll still happen So is there any tricks to keeping a cell phone no matter how long you had it to keep moving fast is it perhaps that I need a new SIM card or maybe I charge it too much I just don't know hoping you did
Just don't watch videos in 1080p I have boost and watch in 360p and they throttle
Who is his cosmetic dentist ?
This was the fine work of braces many years ago. 😉
they never state that the actual speed after the allocated high speed data drops to less than 128kbps, which in 2023 is 99% unusable...i have it myself..literally my phone could be a Nokia 3310 for what i'm getting from mint...can't ay i'd suggest it at all...there's way better mvno out there than mint...example...metropcs after the 33gb high speed data, you still get over 10mbps speeds..had them for the last 8 years.
All other plans besides the unlimited plan have speeds at 128kbps after high speed data is used. The unlimited plan has 512kbps, although it is only on the 4G/5G bands so if you switch your phone to 3G you can bypass the cap and get around 1.5mbps. (If your phone *has* 3G bands, not all do.)
In short, Unlimited isn't actually unlimited. Sure you get unlimited data, talk and text on all plans. But the difference between all plans is the amount of gigabytes of high speed data. Just know that once the high speed data is gone, your data speeds will be excruciating slow.
Yep - it's rough when that data hits the cap.
Mint Mobile has catches...just like all others...not worth the trouble of switching.
Don't say it is unlimited if it is not
Mint Mobile was worst experience with a phone company I've ever had. They simply do not have the resources to fix things when something goes wrong. The sent me a sims card and when it wouldn't function insisted on taking me -- a near 70 years old -- on a complicated journey through settings on my phone I did not even know existed. And then when that didn't work they stopped returning my calls and refused to refund my money back to me when I switched back to my old company. Even though I never got even a minute of service from them for 6 months I paid them for.
Chargeback?
@@robbierobinson2883 It did eventually get resolved in that they reimbursed what money I had sent them. But it required me making over a dozen phone calls and seeking to talk to those higher and higher up their food change. By now maybe Mint has fixed such problems.
So it’s not unlimited 😢
Don't waste 6+ minutes on here , the answer is ...
After you've used 35 GB in the same month, Mint will slow your speeds down to 2G (the first digital connectivity speed type, which comes in around 0.1 Mbps). That's still enough to do some slow browsing or email checking, but you certainly won't be streaming TV.Jan 24, 2023
Bingo!
It is about 0.5, 0.1 for the rest of the plans. Can be bypassed by switching your phone to 3G, still not very fast though.
Seriously, you couldn't take it on a $90 test drive and find out for us? Arrrrrrrrrrrggggggggg
I'd be willing to crowdsource the funds in the form of donations to test it out. 😄
35 gigs a month? Who uses that much
I heard mint counts data at a higher speed or something
Anyone touting Mint Mobiles “good” service is lying to you and are probably on the payroll. MM is a heist. Poor service for cheaper prices is what you’re actually getting.
Who’s payroll are you on? 😂
Hi! Would love to hear about your experience. I think viewers would benefit quite a bit from hearing some of the different experiences people have had.
Also, are you talking about wireless service or customer service? I've been happy with the former, and I don't think I've had to lean much at all on customer service so far.
Maybe you had a bad experience or you think it is not good. Try it and then you can say what ever you want. This service is just like T-Mobile. Not counting the customers services.
Do you have a reason?
@@chancepatterson1972 I ignore emotional response that don’t offer specifics.
I hate the service . Its crap.
I have been having problems retrieving my refund from Mint Mobile. Ryan Reynolds lies. If he is the owner of Mint Mobile, then he is a liar. Lie to me once and I will never trust you again. I have buyers remorse. I will be reporting them to the FCC.
Hotspot is NOT limited to 10GB (now extended to 10GB from previous 5GB) This is what I received from an agent on chat today April 22, 2023: • Me: Sorry I still do not follow this: "After you have used the hotspot in your plan, you won't be able to share it until your plan renews again. but you can use your data to share it or as it serves as your hotspot"
• Mint Fox Agent : Rain: Yes that is right but please be advised that it is your allocated data for the month that will be used okay?
• Me: So the plan actually comes with 40GB of device specific data plus 10GB of separate hot spot data and do I understand that once the hot spot data is used I can still use the hot spot and the data will now be coming from the 40GB device/cell plan ?
• Mint Fox Agent: Rain:
Yes that is right, once you have used up your allocated hotspot then if you will still share data, it will be from coming from your data plan instead.
• Great that is what I was looking for thank you.
Now it seems idiotic to separate 40 GB data for device plus 10GB for hotspot. Why not just call if 50GB of data with hotspot functionality not limited???
I don’t believe this is true, at least it wasn’t back when the hotspot was 5GB.
