It would work without oil for about 5 minutes before the engine ceases . I do not recommend starting or running an engine without oil. I was lucky because I heard a strange noise on the rockers and realised that they were running dry. It sounded like metal hitting metal. It was a very clear sound. Thank you for watching. Did you take the rocker covers off and pushrods out ?

Yes, all of that was done previously. There's no tension on the cams.
