The ultra magnus figure is actually the Magnus armor. Minimus ambus is a load bearer. There have been multiple load bearers during the war to use the magnus armor. Every time they die, the armor returns to tyrest and a new magnus is chosen.
I got this guy when he first came out, and he's been on display ever since. I literally had no recollection that he's got the little robot in his chest, and had to go open mine up to look if he was in there, since I didn't even remember he came with a minifig. He's been safe and sound all along XD
Oh man, Magnus keelhauling over like that at 21:22 was just what I needed after talking to a dirt bag with a "holier-than-thou" attitude. That right there made me go back three times. Never change man. And thank you for making such entertaining videos.

My personal favorite version of Magnus in toy form so far. I love that they are giving us more IDW inspired looks. I couldn't believe how small Minimus is. He's shorter than my Armada Prime's minicon partner Sparkplug. Not by much, but still...that's small. I have nothing but praise for this figure, except for his ramps in carrier mode. They don't feel secure when you close them. Thanks again, man!
While Hasbro has QC issues, I do still commend them for how happy they are to assist with them. I've bought figures that were old from bargin bins and still gotten replacements because of QC issues, like my Warrior Class RID Starscream with 2 left feet.
I just bought mine last night, he came with both missile pods, BUT, when I opened him, one was placed in the plastic tray and tied down, but the other one was attached to Magnus' shoulder, so it seems they put one in and then said "Oh crap we forgot the other one!" and it was tossed in at the last minute. Great video btw, keep it up!

Great review emgo, Sorry to see your version had some QC issues, is a normal thing that happens which is true but hope it gets resolve fast for you. Ultra Magnus looks pretty sweet, and as long his not a white prime and looks more different than prime then is all good in my book. Minimus Ambus looks to be a well made little figure, im really surprise they game him leg articulation for such a small size. Its interesting that this Ultra Magnus figure has the same standing issue like TG Roadbuster, for the looks of it both share that similar feet transformation sort of speak where the feet end up way up front but looses heels spur for stability. Still don't understand why this guy couldn't have some waist articulation and hand swivel, for the looks of it he could just have them just fine. Hasbro and his strange mind i guess. Still a great figure, looking forward on getting mine. lol chest minion.
LOL Loved it when he fell backwards and slid a little. A good idea for the loose hammer is to put some floor polish in the cut out (sides of the cut out, not back of it) as well as the part of the hammer shaft between the rings. Might tighten up that area.
also...with that QC issue with the arm...you might be able to have a sick stance with that double rifle you made. IDK, just a thought. Not sure if you returned it or not.

Damn EmGo, you got the short end of the stick. My transformers prime first edition starscreem came with a misassembled jetpack. I had to take the pin out and install it the right way. It was loose which SUCKED BIG DONKEY BALLS!!

Magnus went on another energon binge. At least you will be able to get a replacement. Funny enough when beast hunters was a thing, I got a Skystalker with 2 lower left arms. I got it off hasbro's shop and thankfully they were nice enough to help me replace him. I get what you mean, it's human error so you can't fault them for it.

This figure really seems like a nod to the original G1 Ultra Magnus figure, especially since Minimus Ambus somewhat resembles a white Optimus Prime with a some green to boot.
Don't know if anyone else already mentioned it, or if you figured it out on your own... But your right shoulder issue isn't that they gave you two left arms. It's in backwards. I noticed the molding on the shoulder pads don't line up. Maybe theres a way to open open the shoulder and turn it around.

Fantastic review!!! I love the look of him so much I can see this becoming my definitive Magnus!!! Now if only I could find one. The QC issues are inexcusable and really suck but at least you will get it fixed. One thing that concerns me is the overall quality like how long this figure will hold up. I've heard another reviewer say it just feels fragile but I truly hope that's not the case. Anyway thanks for the review and keep up the great work.
All he needs is a slightly larger head and a little bit of a boost to be G1 movie scale with Mp10 considering Magnus was somehow the same height as prime in that despite the toy being a white Optimus in a massive suit of armor.
So, I'm late to the party on this one, Only decided I needed him after I got Titans Return Powermaster Optimus (and watched this and few other reviews repeatedly for a week). While I really like the looks of Ultra Magnus, he has the same issues everyone had when he first came out. I thought MAYBE some of the issues were fixed in later productions, but no. I wasn't too unlucky, mine had only one loose hand (fixed with superglue) , all the parts were there, no messy or missing paint apps, all the ratchets worked, and no stress marks in the lower legs right out of the box, but even after cutting down the tabs everyone mentioned, it still happened the first time I transformed him. I then looked closely while transforming him and thought I found the issue, trimmed some more parts and then hairdryered (not a word) the stress marks. They came back again while TFing him. So I just figure I'm gonna ignore them, nothing else I can do. He's a great looking figure and the Alt mode looks cool too. I just wish there was storage for Minimus in Truck mode. Your review kept me from getting my hopes up too much, so when I got him, I was happily surprised that mine wasn't in worse shape.
I wish my Magnus's shin bits would come together as easily as yours. One side simply refuses to stay together unless I firmly hold it while snapping the tabs into place. I still love him, though.
I finally managed to get my own copy on Christmas Day 2020 (I know, right? After all these years). And I'm pleased to report that my copy's perfectly fine in the QC department. A right-hand shoulder joint, and a nicely secure grip on his hammer. What a relief, then, that I got one of the good copies (because, again, I got it for Christmas). :) I mean, I totally agree, there's absolutely no excuse here with the copy that you got.
I got mine on Christmas 2016 or 2015 I think I was only 5 or 4 yrs old and I still have it today and it’s In good condition and it’s still my favorite toy

Weird to think that this version of Magnus is akin to Shurikenjin and even Ellen Ripley in that they all share exo-suits in common. Ripley used an exo-suit, Shurikenjin is basically an exo-suit and this Ultra Magnus is an exo-suit for Minimus. Also, if it weren't Animated Magnus being a badass with his hammer, then maybe we would have future versions of Ultra Magnus with some sort of hammer weapon.

As a kid who grew up with TF, but never really collected until now, I've started looking for a good Magnus to fill out a Lost Light set. I have been looking at that City Commander version,. but I'm not made of money, so this guy has suddenly piqued my interest. But that's not why I'm commenting. What got me was I'd like to eventually get an Arcee figure, but as good as the current one looks, she's just... well, it looks like she just curls into a ball and the backpack folds over her. Kinda like Beast Wars' Rattrap. And then it hit me; Rattrap once mentioned his "great aunt Arcee", so.. I guess it's genetic?
I prefer how City Commander looks over this guy. Even though last time I checked, it's painfully difficult to find that Magnus at a reasonable price on Ebay. Although I'd need to see the toy irl before I say this, I feel like Magnus' shoulder thingies (for lack of a better word) are much too big compared to the rest of him.
Even though he is taller than the average voyager, I consider him a voyager because he actually SCALES to Voyager class figures. Compared to leader class, he is tiny.
Thenoble117 the Targetmaster who came with Swerve is slightly shorter than a MegaBloks HALO figure when I stood them side-by-side. I'm sure Call Of Duty figures will fit in the "Magnus suit" just fine. I already have MB HALO figures mingled among my deluxe TF figures. ("Come on now, Who Don't?!")
So Hasbro version is color-wise more G1 cartoon accurate but is paired with Minimus like in the comic. The Takara version has comic accurate red thighs but is paired with Alpha Trion... is this to get people to buy both versions? XD In all seriousness great video. I'm preordering mine from BBTS right now. I'm so excited to finally have a non-goofy looking(aniimated, prime etc) BIG Ultra Magnus. P.S. Also animus is in scale with magnus! if you look really closely on the cab, you can see a door......and it completely flips the scale around.

As a kid who grew up with TF, but never really collected until now, I've started looking for a good Magnus to fill out a Lost Light set. I have been looking at that City Commander version,. but I'm not made of money, so this guy has suddenly piqued my interest.
But that's not why I'm commenting. What got me was I'd like to eventually get an Arcee figure, but as good as the current one looks, she's just... well, it looks like she just curls into a ball and the backpack folds over her. Kinda like Beast Wars' Rattrap. And then it hit me; Rattrap once mentioned his "great aunt Arcee", so.. I guess it's genetic?

I prefer how City Commander looks over this guy. Even though last time I checked, it's painfully difficult to find that Magnus at a reasonable price on Ebay.
Although I'd need to see the toy irl before I say this, I feel like Magnus' shoulder thingies (for lack of a better word) are much too big compared to the rest of him.
Even though he is taller than the average voyager, I consider him a voyager because he actually SCALES to Voyager class figures. Compared to leader class, he is tiny.
I had a similar issue with Jiaxus, two right lower arm assemblies which made the left arm bend the wrong way. I hope your replacement comes soon.
Don't worry Optimus you can have a hole team WITH a chest minion to combine with you just have to wait for wave 4 of combiner wars.

the chest gimmick reminds me of the episode from G1 "only human" so much
I love it, though most people don't realise that the only character this came with is minimus , the ultra magnus figure is only technically the armor

Thenoble117 the Targetmaster who came with Swerve is slightly shorter than a MegaBloks HALO figure when I stood them side-by-side. I'm sure Call Of Duty figures will fit in the "Magnus suit" just fine. I already have MB HALO figures mingled among my deluxe TF figures. ("Come on now, Who Don't?!")

So Hasbro version is color-wise more G1 cartoon accurate but is paired with Minimus like in the comic. The Takara version has comic accurate red thighs but is paired with Alpha Trion... is this to get people to buy both versions? XD
In all seriousness great video. I'm preordering mine from BBTS right now. I'm so excited to finally have a non-goofy looking(aniimated, prime etc) BIG Ultra Magnus.
