  • They work in one of the most dangerous and conservative areas of Pakistan.
    "Where I come from, women are not usually allowed to get an education," says Khalida Niaz, who went on a hunger strike to convince her father to let her finish school.
    Now, she is a radio newsreader for the Tribal News Network, which broadcasts across Pakistan's troubled border region with Afghanistan.
    Reporting the news here can be deadly - threats by armed groups have shut down most media outlets. But Khalida and her colleagues know there are some stories that only women can tell.
    101 East meets the team making women's voices heard in Pakistan's tribal region.

    I don’t know what to say after seeing this video, but I would say this is one of best video I have ever watched on RUclips. I really appreciate the TNN initiative and wish them a great time ahead. I hope and wish PAKISTAN to emerge as the developing country with the infrastructure as well as working women/girls.
    I have a lot of things but I can let it out in my current situation and hope to write what I really soon when I have a proper mood to let out everything I want.
    Thanks and keep up the good work!

    I am from this area. A woman, a doctor and a proud Pakistani. we are not covered in bed sheets. we have the right to cover our bodies as much as those women out there who have the right to be all exposed. most of this video is misleading. we have access to internet and satellite TV channels even in the remote and farthest areas of the north. if the area us so dangerous and women cannot go outside without wearing bed sheets, then why is it ok for the reporter to go without one? we went to co education right from kindergarten till the end if medical school.

      Ordinary Muslims are the first target and victim of extremism.
      Extremists exist in any religion, including non-believers.
      Extremists have much easier time get it organized in religious group because the organization already exists.
      We should separate religious freedom for individuals and religious freedom for organized religion.

    • @lzrish
      @lzrish 8 лет назад +1

      allgoo19 They have to Separate state from religion.When you have a religious police,religious politics everithing on this groups gonna be religous,even the country considered modarate on they faith commit many crimes against human rigths and female rights.A solution is the complete separation of the state and religion and a politic for capture and finish any extremist group.

    • @lzrish
      @lzrish 8 лет назад

      I think is Islam Because in western culture had this separation(state and religion) and we can even compare on todays world the privation that muslim woman and other privation thw muslim religion impose to they followers.Yes the catolic church and cristian have impose privations too like the use of condons and anti-concept medicines and gay subject but they dont punish this person because of that and all we can agree woman in western country got more powers then the arabic woman.I agree religion its not the solution thats why im Secular Humanist and i never will open my rigths for a religion.

    That's pretty sad what is happening in Tribal Areas. There is a reason why that area is a hotbed for militant activity. The majority of the people don't want to move on to modern times. They are living their own hybrid of Islam and Pashtunwali tribal culture. Pretty asynchronistic, if you ask me.

    This is so wrong about Peshawar, Pakistan. This documentary its self is so baised that it depicts nothing more than a small percenatge. A very biased journalism without any proper research; no observation or experience. Didn't expect this from Al Jazeera yet the people-conservative reporters them selves; to sell them selves and get credited for nothing but a mere portion of experience. They are conservatives in their own thoughts to show such a picture of Peshawar. Struggle with work as a women is a different thing but showing and exaggerating it for making yourself a hero over lies is nothing but dishonesty, selfishness and double standards with your own home place.

    Hail these great women and the men that help them! They are all heroes, fighting to free their people from the stupid and despicable chains imposed by a bunch of criminals on their backward society. Mathers drugging their children to be free to work manufacturing carpets! What else are we going to hear about Pakistan? Is there an end in sight to the horrors that our Pakistani brothers and sisters suffer?

      yes only until Afghanistan is under proper control, not under a buffoon government like at current. Pakistan hosts 2 Million Afghan refugees too, alot to cater for and process

      Doesn't seem so. Pakistan is better under military control. Democracy is unfit for countries like Pakistan. Anyways generals are way more accepted in Pakistan than politicians are.

    Sometime when these faces see international cameras they saying lying, that girls are not allowed to go to school and get educated it was long time ago. Sometime because of poverty they stopped going to school but not because of the society. The areA you had went into is the most backward area and yes they have some problems like this but the pashtoon people really respect women. But still we have some narrow minded people whose should get educated.

    There are tones of female journalists in Pakistan that this documentary didn't even bother to talk about.
    Yes there is a huge problem of gender in Pakistan. But the way this documentary is made is just simply shameful.
    almost all 101 east documentaries are like this.
    Its like measuring temperature in saharan july, to study earth average temperature
