- They work in one of the most dangerous and conservative areas of Pakistan.
"Where I come from, women are not usually allowed to get an education," says Khalida Niaz, who went on a hunger strike to convince her father to let her finish school.
Now, she is a radio newsreader for the Tribal News Network, which broadcasts across Pakistan's troubled border region with Afghanistan.
Reporting the news here can be deadly - threats by armed groups have shut down most media outlets. But Khalida and her colleagues know there are some stories that only women can tell.
101 East meets the team making women's voices heard in Pakistan's tribal region.

I don’t know what to say after seeing this video, but I would say this is one of best video I have ever watched on RUclips. I really appreciate the TNN initiative and wish them a great time ahead. I hope and wish PAKISTAN to emerge as the developing country with the infrastructure as well as working women/girls.
I have a lot of things but I can let it out in my current situation and hope to write what I really soon when I have a proper mood to let out everything I want.
Thanks and keep up the good work!
I know what you mean and also agree with you I think it's very good.
16:20 An amazing story. Guts. Parental Affection. Constraints. Fears. Success !! Just like any home. I am an Indian, and my parents migrated from here in 1947. Loved every second of the story. Thank you Al Jazeera.

Hats off to you Mr. Niaz Ali Khan! Eventually, you have understood how wonderful, brave and especial your daughter is! Many blessings and all the very best!
Congratulations and thousands of applause to Mr. Said Nasir, as well!
15:50 God bless this good man and his family!
What a truly remarkable human being
what amazing courage!
I am from this area. A woman, a doctor and a proud Pakistani. we are not covered in bed sheets. we have the right to cover our bodies as much as those women out there who have the right to be all exposed. most of this video is misleading. we have access to internet and satellite TV channels even in the remote and farthest areas of the north. if the area us so dangerous and women cannot go outside without wearing bed sheets, then why is it ok for the reporter to go without one? we went to co education right from kindergarten till the end if medical school.

I am so happy for you god give you everything in life take care sister
Al Jazeera, why don't you do a story on the lack of rights for a man in Australia?
Aljazeera will not do that coz it's owned by America
Great episode indeed!...
I believe that insha-allah Pakistan will be the land of opportunities and the land of free journalism... :)
good luck to all the women all across the world
Shafaq and her father have my utmost respect.
Greetings from india, good documentry, and awesome courage you have
More power and safety for them. This is just the beginning but it is wonderful to see.
Pakistan People Very Good Talk and Very Beautiful Pakistan
wow...! thank you..fantastic..! what great young woman that are really making a difference and helping people. the education, and empowering of woman in areas of the world where they are suppressed by culture and religion, is the single most important message to be brought there. it will bring about the change needed to 'change the world'. thank you...
You are the bravest girl ! Best of luck. Be careful when you are on for new assignment in remote areas of Pakistan. Lrean history, geography and politics of Pakistan and the world. This will make you more informative on international politics too.
Professor of Geopolitics from Gujarat , India.
0:26 those wires on that pole, just amazing
My dear reporter why an individual case study can be an image of Pakistan Reporters , Dear Pakistan have aprox 95 channels and all woman and man are associate with channels perhaps One or two case but in not real image of Pakistan. Al Jazira is being heavy amount to spread a Negative Image of Pakistan. WE CONDUM IT (Not every thing is correct) why you doing such silly things now people are not stupid any more......
I sympathise with her and hope she reaches her goals. The odds are greatly against her and this makes me so sad.
don't be sad for her, this documentry is a lie the number of women in media journalist, news caster, reporters, anchors well 75% of them are women in pakistan
+Badar Munir this isn't about Fox News, it's about treating women as equals and supporting their incredibly brave efforts to overcome a medieval attitude towards women.
B M
Welldone Niaz Ali khan welldone Khalida

"This womans are amazing, but what disturb their life's is Islam!"

Ordinary Muslims are the first target and victim of extremism.
Extremists exist in any religion, including non-believers.
Extremists have much easier time get it organized in religious group because the organization already exists.
We should separate religious freedom for individuals and religious freedom for organized religion.
allgoo19 They have to Separate state from religion. When you have a religious police, religious politics everithing on this groups gonna be religous, even the country considered modarate on they faith commit many crimes against human rigths and female rights.A solution is the complete separation of the state and religion and a politic for capture and finish any extremist group.
+Baktun X says:
"A solution is the complete separation of the state and religion "
"what disturb their life's is Islam!"

Is the problem Islam or religion in general?
I think is Islam Because in western culture had this separation(state and religion) and we can even compare on todays world the privation that muslim woman and other privation thw muslim religion impose to they followers.Yes the catolic church and cristian have impose privations too like the use of condons and anti-concept medicines and gay subject but they dont punish this person because of that and all we can agree woman in western country got more powers then the arabic woman.I agree religion its not the solution thats why im Secular Humanist and i never will open my rigths for a religion.
+Baktun X says:
"Because in western culture had this separation(state and religion)"

Never heard of the word "Roman Catholic"?
WE ARE GOING TO HELP TO THE PAKISTAN NEWS MEDIA I M WITH YOU IN ALL THE TIME IN MY WHOLE LIFE
These women are real heroes...salute to them.
Wow that's a wonderful story AJ.
Wow how much worst condition you define in Peshawar, I am living since 20 years and they way you present everything is look like Somalia or much worst
man that was I thinking things are normal but someone reporting like its it's like Kabul are rubbish area security for some people around the world need its normal when some have threat but make something big of with very small its tottaly rubbish
One living in Somalia will not be able to determine how bad it is, just like living in Peshawar you won't see the danger, it is outsiders or people looking in have a better view, your opinion doesn't matter.
True
Somalia is better than this place coz educate your self and watch RUclips you ignorant
WoW!!!! These ladies & guys @TNN are awesome, truly inspiring.
Ya ALLAH protect my beautiful country Pakistan AMEEN!
shakeel Ahmed Actually, it's the responsability of Pakistanis to protect and build a better Pakistan. And if failed, is also a failure of Pakistanis. Start accepting responsability for one own deeds, is the way Islam teaches.
Pakistan shall never be settled..
It is still ongoing a border dispute between Pakistan and Afghanistan because the area where journalist was banned are dangerous because of numerous skirmishes along the Durand Line
Much respect for these brave women.
good program.
لا اله الا الله محمد رسول الله

fake news at least TV is every where in Pakistan and I'm Pakistani and I'm from Pakistan and the news were played from Afghanistan channel and come to Pakistan at my class we have 10 boys and 26 girls and my university is near to Afghanistan border in peshawar.
zia khan I am not from there and I say B.S.!This seems very fake,or at least over exaggerated!
Truth is bitter
Perhaps there are some areas where you have not visited that there isn't such?
Girl power, women's lib, whatever but my vote, wish,Isha goes to these strong willed women. Bless you all
WELL WE CAN CHANGE A PAKISTAN IN TO THE RICHEST COUNTRY OF THE WORLD
happy people happy life.
Brave Phuston Women (Y) Bravo!
That's pretty sad what is happening in Tribal Areas. There is a reason why that area is a hotbed for militant activity. The majority of the people don't want to move on to modern times. They are living their own hybrid of Islam and Pashtunwali tribal culture. Pretty asynchronistic, if you ask me.
You people are pride of Pakistan... Pakhtuns are our pride.. keep on keeping.
It's just fake they are just showing one side of the story
Dangerous Pakistan!
Its not fake...Why are you lying.
+fack yoo indian always crying..can you please explain it to us why this is fake....i also had feeling this was a made up story and promotion. i been in Pakistan last years and i didnt see such a thing . female live there freely and they have lot of freedome
The only fake is you.
If this is true then why girls always top high school in whole district why health department of Pakistan have 70% female doctors and 30% male why always they top in entrance exam for medical college about 70% female doctors this news also covered by bbc last year and make about 10 min documentary on it so how can they say that girls are forbidden to get education
Great Story and Reality of Pakistan but we will keep on working to bring the Change in People life keep the Good work on "TNN" .
One lord must hold in heart and to know universe how it work
May Allah give these women more strength.
allah says women are just for child cultivation.
***** No hate dear ! Only speaking of whats written in quran. I am an ex muslim you know
***** there is no shaitan nor allah dear!
***** thats not a believe its a simple logic !! If allah is creator of every matter then why did he created satan. secondly, even by misteken he was created why couldn't allah kill it. is allah *WEAK*
It's great to see women take part in Journalism. They are invaluable.
BIG BIG RESPECT :-)
Brave women.
I live near khurasan camp which is afghani refugee camp, where they reported the use of opium. its not like this it's not epidemic, but to take a single instance and paint the whole society with this is called yellow journalism.
Why are these women hiding their faces? Have they received death threats or... what's going on there?
bcoz they r virtuous, moral, ethical, good, righteous, saintly, honorable, pious...and they dont want any impure eyes(behind camera) 2 c them
courageous gals..best wishes.keep on going
you couldn't conclude result on the basis of only 5% of data of whole country. That Pakistan is dangerous place for Journalist.Tribal areas Doesn't represent the whole Pakistan.
his daughters are so beautiful 😍😍😍
respect women from india be strong and successful in your life
Pakistan is progressing well by Grace of Allah. It need some time to sort things out & placing things at correct order. It is courageous step. KEEP IT UP👍
what about the safety of the women the lady journalist exposed in the story? this is so inresponsible. she already said she did for a living, though it's wrong. probably they didnt know about know the recording and how theyre gonna use the record publicly
This documentary is a mockery of how they portrayed Pakistan ..
keep up the good work Thanks for the report
May God protest these peoples.. My prayer with you all.
its only in peshawar city few areas not all pakistan
high posiction of woman in society means rich and well educated country, only in poverty countries situation of woman is bad
can''t even see an "azad" pakistani, let alone "azad" kashmir.
Prashant Chaudhary iam from azad kashmir proud to be Pakistani soon we will help other kashmiri brothers for freedom from india
they have to have free education to all That's the problem the government need to provide for education that way the poor kids won't go to the madrasa EDUCATION. FREE IS THE ONLY HOPE TO STOP EXTREMIST
Great Khalida ! Go ahead, Best of luck.
May Allah bless them all. 😢
Why pakistan is still most dangerous? what about usa n France
These people are virtually living in the
1920's - 1950's
And the woman are Ninja's
yep and we dont plan on changing
that pashto the is not over Peshawary pashto but they speak the Afghan Kabul pashto I'm from Peshawar and this is not are accents pashto
Its still the same Pashtuns.
aab jao tribal areas ghumnay hotels ka rent itna hgya hai..
Meanwhile in western countries news report be like:
It's ok to identify as a apple.
thank you and so proud of you
Absolutely fake and shows negative image of Pakistan and Pukhtoons
+Bman Chu Ironic coming from a commie
+Bman Chu ??
This is so wrong about Peshawar, Pakistan. This documentary its self is so baised that it depicts nothing more than a small percenatge. A very biased journalism without any proper research; no observation or experience. Didn't expect this from Al Jazeera yet the people-conservative reporters them selves; to sell them selves and get credited for nothing but a mere portion of experience. They are conservatives in their own thoughts to show such a picture of Peshawar. Struggle with work as a women is a different thing but showing and exaggerating it for making yourself a hero over lies is nothing but dishonesty, selfishness and double standards with your own home place.
this isn't in peshawar
@@bloodfiredrake7259 It in the province and the attitude is prety much the same
I am Pakistani and this documentary is absolutely not correct !!!
It's really hard to communicate with someone who isn't showing her/his face
This documentary says media can't roam free in FATA then how come there were EXPRESS NEWS vehicles and reporters covered the TOUR DE MOHMAND cycle race that I competed in and represented ISLAMABAD team
Brilliant documentary but the host should have also tried to visit the women in the houses and talk to them; she shouldn't have been scared thAt much
how biased aljazeera news is. how they are showing peshawar city, and life of women here. but believe me, the situation here is totally opposite. just take a report of any university here you will see more girls than a boys here. even girls here secure high acedemic scores every time in every classes.
ohhh...................havent you heard about kohistani killers..............are you thinking ppl of TNN are faking?????
well we are watching thank you i m happy i m a c i a a thanks from Cuba i m going to Pakistan to develop the Pakistan all the field
Sayeed's kids are so cute and pretty :)
Hail these great women and the men that help them! They are all heroes, fighting to free their people from the stupid and despicable chains imposed by a bunch of criminals on their backward society. Mathers drugging their children to be free to work manufacturing carpets! What else are we going to hear about Pakistan? Is there an end in sight to the horrors that our Pakistani brothers and sisters suffer?
yes only until Afghanistan is under proper control, not under a buffoon government like at current. Pakistan hosts 2 Million Afghan refugees too, alot to cater for and process
Doesn't seem so. Pakistan is better under military control. Democracy is unfit for countries like Pakistan. Anyways generals are way more accepted in Pakistan than politicians are.
i cant say anythng
ڈاکٹر لا.لا رخ Dr.LalaRukh why
a very good way to attract foreign aid. these issues are normal i don't know why some pontoons sell their mother land honor on some "dollars"
stop getting your big nose into peoples businesses and crying over someones cuture
these are all lies every home has tv their and they have very easy access to news. women in the these areas dont lesson to the news . they alway watch india drams on tv and dish
Make Pakistan better
Sometime when these faces see international cameras they saying lying, that girls are not allowed to go to school and get educated it was long time ago. Sometime because of poverty they stopped going to school but not because of the society. The areA you had went into is the most backward area and yes they have some problems like this but the pashtoon people really respect women. But still we have some narrow minded people whose should get educated.
wat kind of place is this....oh lord womens are not allowed to go to school....🖓
Iraq offered education for women, before it was destroyed.
ankush sharma It's Saudi version of Islam. I'm Assyrian and my mom told me in Iraq she had an executive job in a oil company. Dirty whabbis exporting their evil religion :-)))
All Pakistan ladies come to India for freedom.
brave girl! I salute you!
There are tones of female journalists in Pakistan that this documentary didn't even bother to talk about.
Yes there is a huge problem of gender in Pakistan. But the way this documentary is made is just simply shameful.
almost all 101 east documentaries are like this.
Its like measuring temperature in saharan july, to study earth average temperature
