Great review as usual she hit it on the head. What you get for the money is a no brainer I now own a G90 5.0 AWD ultimate. One of the best decisions I’ve made I had several German vehicles this in no way a step down I had to check every option and spend a lot more for all the safety features Genesis comes with them all. Test drive one to see for yourself you won’t be disappointed.
I'd still own a BMW though. But if this product line went full tilt with a V8TT with 600+ HP and TQ, then, it could become the epicenter of power and luxury (with more interior refinement). I know that it's a great car. I sold them for a while back in 2019. Whenever I closed the windows, I heard absolutely NOTHING. It was like sitting in a sound proof booth. The selection gear was too germaine for the Genesis brand. I left off selling cars and being a GM cos I was just some with the Auto sales biz. But the dealer who I had once worked for was at least reputable. And the Genesis Brand deserves a serious look in the Luxury car segment.
This is one beautiful SUV! I own a 2019 Genesis G70. Currently over 44K miles, and No problems. I don't Baby, my Baby (Hee Hee!). My wife and I are waiting for the Genesis Gv70 to be released, so that we can replace our 2006 Hyundai Tucson. It has been a very reliable/dependable vehicle for 14 years. I enjoyed your review!
She gives very good analysis of the vehicles. The rating system she used is excellent. I really like to hear her opinions because she is very knowledgeable.

I get the feeling you're a wise man. Can't go wrong with the G80 and I'm with you....but I'm probably going with the GV80 given our east coast winters...

Your review nailed it. I’ve been waiting for a car like this my whole life and my dream came true when I walked out of the dealership Thursday evening with my Cardiff Green 3.5L Prestige Package GV80. It’s everything you said and then some. I’m a bit overwhelmed by the technology & features. It’s like going to The Cheesecake Factory and fainting when reading the menu - the owners manual is well over 600 pages. I’ll be discovering new features probably for several months. This is luxury & comfort epitomized and while it’s sporty enough for a mid sized SUV. The sound system beats anything I’ve ever experienced in my life. I’m in love.
Excellent video ...just waiting for my new GV80 to arrive and very excited about this vehicle and this video answered tons of questions I had. GREAT VIDEO
I am currently driving a 2015 Genesis sedan. It is the best car I have ever owned. The GV 80 is a no brainer. I have been looking at reviews for the past 10 months on the GV80 and you are the only one if you are in the states that has even driven one. Petrolhead (Charlie) has driven the diesel in Korea. You have a exceptionally well done review with the exception of the price you quoted $45,900, but all the dealers have it listed as $48,900 as you have in your descriptive information above. Do you have any idea when it will be available for test driving in the states? I am also waiting on the GV70 which I think will be more my size. Again excellent review.. you have new subi.. please keep us updated. /
Im thinking about this and your video has me 99% convinced to buy it. I hope they are not backordered by the time I am ready to buy.....January/February. Keep up the great videos. VERY good job. Plus, I see you in other places...TV for example. You are a star in the making. Actually, in my eyes, you already are.
One of the best reviews I’ve ever seen. It’s very clear you did your homework. Not only will I be subscribing to your channel, I’ll also be visiting my local Genesis dealer to check out the GV 80. 🙂 Great job!
Thank you for a comprehensive review focusing on what end customers really care about. The reliability issues with Range Rovers will probably send customers towards the Gv80 and ofcourse the value component will help. Just one advice, do show the room in the 3rd row in future videos if possible. Keep up the great work!
@@CarCoachReports yes Aviator has done it but I am not sure which of them is longer as while I have seen the Aviator, Covid messed up test driving and both have great features. I am awaiting being able to see the actual vehicle which is not available yet in Canada. Also looking forward to the Hyundai Tucson which has hidden the wiper. There is a lot to love about the HT also but not comparable totally to the Genesis but there should be a real $ difference to obtain what so far looks like a premium vehicle.
Extremely informative review Lauren. The Hyundai Motor Group is on quite the roll. Very impressed with the improvements made from model to model. If Genesis improves the dealer network in the USA and Canada, they might have a chance.
I have been researching on this ride, so I have watched a few video reviews. This is the very best I have seen. What a fantastic in-depth job in 21 minutes. Recently bought a 2021 Hyundai Calligraphy (my 1st Korean car after a move from a BMW 5 series Gt). Its a fantastic ride. Family needs a 2nd ride, I am very likely to go for this. My deal breaker in cars are value, premium interior and safety features, not necessarily a sport performance.
That is factory footage, sadly they did not have anything else than what you see. I would suggest going to the Genesis website I’m sure there is a configurator there. You can change the colors and see all corners.
Very thorough review. It many of the FAQ points. Well done. Just wished you covered more about the message technology. What type of massager? Rollers or vibration? I would expect that it would be rollers.
Nice review Lauren! Very thorough. I test drove this a few months ago (diesel model) and just loved it! It's at least as good, more reliable, and much better value than it's competition. Home run for Genesis.
Very impressive review as always Lauren! Very nice looking vehicle for the price range! Could replace my Durango :-) For a 1st generation product there's not much wrong!
Thank you for such a thorough review. Agree about the cup holders-kind of a deal killer for Audi. How would you line GV80 up with the Q7, GLS or GLE, and X7? Looked at them all, but not in love with any of them. Looking for spacious SUV but don't want to drive a bus either.
Take a look at the Lincoln Aviator, certainly not a boat but very advanced in technology and design. The BMW X7 has a very tight third row as does the Q7. The Mercedes GLS has more legroom for the third row but if the third row is not critical, The Q7 and Mercedes-Benz have the best navigation systems. The Germans don’t understand that we all have large bottles of water and a coffee. Lincoln and Cadillac are doing a great job with that.
300 miles into ownership of the 3.5 Prestige...there may be things I regret in life, purchasing this SUV will NOT be one of them. This video is so right on the value proposition. In general, I agree with everything said here. There is a learning curve on the infotainment. But now I love that ipod-like controller! The review unfavorites the bombay opening to the console. I argue it's as brilliant as any German engineering I've ever seen. When either the driver or passenger rests their arm on it, you can still open it. You never have to ask, "Can you lift your arm, please?" It's sexy, sensual, & smart in ways I've never encountered. Ten ✨
Great review. I wanted to see this and decided not to wait so, I bought a 2021 G70 3.3. (Which I love) I traded a 2017 Macan GTS (which I also loved). I may be trading it in though if this ever shows up at dealerships..... Curious if Genesis is offering a factory trailer hitch option.
I could not find a Genesis factory trailer hitch option, I believe there is a class III vehicle but it’s covered up. You would still need to add trailer brakes. I’m a huge fan of the Porsche Macan, but you will be thrilled with the GV80. I am sure your insurance cost will be much less as well.
@@CarCoachReports It's funny you bring up insurance. Going from my $85,000 2017 Macan GTS to a 2021 G70 my insurance actually doubled. I have no idea why. The Macan has actually got an amazing safety rating. I'm going to call a couple other ins companies to get quotes. They say the GV80 will tow 6000lbs. But you need a hitch...lol
wow I'd need a class just to understand and use all of the features....its packed with goodies. Is this the mid- trim level you are driving? Also how will this RWD operate in the snow? Is there a snow feature in the RWD?
Could the early shift points be because they need to fit all eight speeds in? I had a two speed Ford-O-Matic in one of my early cars. I paid $1 dollar for it so I'm not complaining. But 8, 10 speed automatics blow my mind.
If you swiped your foot to open the tailgate, you wasted motion. Just stand there. There's no foot sensor. It detects the fob. No need for spastic foot motions.
Great review, love the water bottle test. Wish the car swapped out the old USB-A ports with USB-C. Looking to swap my 2020 Redline Traverse for the 3 row GV80.
You will be very happy if you buy the new GV80. Thanks on the water bottle rating, it frustrating that they assume everyone want tiny cup holders. And yes, USB-C is becoming the standard these days.
Hello madam. I just saw videoclip you show GV 80 It is very very nice vehicle. If in the future .I have money buy one ok? What you think good to buy it.? Thank you very much. For showing videoclip. Thank you again.
Fantastic review, been waiting for this full assessment and detailed breakdown of "real-world" features. I purchased a 2020 Ford Explorer ST late in 2019. I had to return the car to Ford, it was declared a Lemon by Ford in accordance with my state's law. The transmission failed at under 3K miles not to mention tons of other quality related issues. I have been in the market for a more luxury version of a third row SUV, e.g. Audi Q7, Lincoln Aviator, Volvo XC-90. This car captures all of the exceptional features from those other brands and puts them all into one package and at a slightly lower price. The only missing options would be Plug In Hybrid power option. If they could incorporate a plug in hybrid power option, I think this would kill all of the competition. Thanks for the great work. I am looking forward to seeing the GV80 in the Washington D.C. area soon.
Great review, Lauren! 2 quick questions: 1. Do you know whether any of the GV80 trim levels will include "Adaptive Cornering" for the front LED headlights, as is offered in the G70 & G80? That hasn't been mentioned anywhere. 2. You showed a clip of remote parallel parking (not just straight in or out). Are you able to state with certainty whether or not that feature will be available in the USA?? Many thanks!
How did you come up with the 96 total score? I added up the different category scores and got a 94. Which would you choose between the G80 and the GV80? Thanks. BTW, really helpful, great videos.
Truly enjoy your reviews! One constructive criticism, please move your Car Coach Reports badge to the upper right corner so we can see the notes you add . 😉 Looking to buy either the GV70 and GV80 next year. I'll look forward to seeing a GV70 review from you in the near future (hint! hint!)!
I passed your suggestion on to the editor. Thanks! Wait till you drive the GV70, I’m super impressed! Just finished driving it, will post the review as soon as I can. The GV80 is more luxury and optional 3rd row if you need it. Personally, I’d own a GV70 Sport with the 3.5L engine in a second
@@CarCoachReports I'm thrilled to hear that as I really value your opinion!!! I actually take notes while watching your reviews and include all the scores. I haven't seen either in person (live in a small town and no one has one!) but I can't wait!!! Thank you SO much for replying! Can't (CANNOT!) wait to see the GV70 Review!!!!! 🎯
Is it available in the UK? I have only seen a few second hand G80 on Autotrader. £15000ish for a 2015/16 30-4000 on the clock. They have just become available in my price range.
Thank you for the compliment and the sub. German vehicles have changed quite a bit over the years and I think this is a great opening for Genesis to come in with the GV80. I do think they need a performance version that really is powerful and handles
I have seen every video of every review done on this vehicle and you by far hit all of the main points and I have to agree with everything you said. I have been looking for a mid-size luxury SUV for the past year. I reserved my 2.5 gv80 prestige package in June. They kept pushing the release date back and I didn't want to wait so I kept searching. There is nothing in the mid-size luxury SUV class that has everything the gv80 has at their price point so I decided to wait it out and they told me I should be receiving it by the end of November. In a class where everything from 20K to 70k have the same design style, the gv80 definitely stands out with the fat grill, the long front end and the nicely proportioned profile view. In my opinion, if you are getting a mid-size luxury suv you should not be looking for a race car performance or get up. As long as it will have enough get up to merge you onto highway traffic that should be the standard you should compare it to. The crazy tech that this vehicle provides surpasses everything in this category and a lot in the next category up. I wish you were able to demonstrate the self Park feature as that feature is amazing. The cameras that turn on when you put the blinker on is amazing. The 14-1/2 in display is crazy. My only question is why did you give it a nine instead of a 10 for the tech? The only cons that I personally do not like are the two-tone interior colors which are not the best colors to go with certain exteriors. They do not offer the matte colors in the USA. That is a big miscalculation on their part as unique Matte colors make a unique car more distinctive have a better presence and you will not forget it.
I'm just like you, I'm willing to wait as long as it takes for the GV80. No other car in its class (and even most out it) comes close to it, so I'm 100% determined to get this beauty into my garage, or go bust trying lol. It's been a long time since a car has made me literally ache because of how gorgeous it is, let alone its reliability, attention to detail, and all its tech offerings.
@@williamlambert5610 10-year 100k warranty is as good as it gets. I'm a big tech Guy myself and the tech within this vehicle seems to be as modern and up-to-date in just about every facet as the top-of-the-line tech that comes in mid-size SUVs. I have spent a good 2 months doing research on probably about 12 or 13 different vehicles. The tech in this vehicle blows all them away. The closest one that comes to this tech is The aviator but the media center layout is very basic looking and kind of old looking like 2014 style layout. Very off-putting in my opinion but they did have a ton of tech options.
Great review. One clarification: Apple released CarKey quite a while back and many BMWs already support it. It uses the same hardware technology (NFC) that the GV80 uses for Android phones so I don’t understand why they left this out for iPhones. I’d love to have this available for use with my GV80.
Thanks for the information, you’re are correct. I’m sure there will be more upgrades as time goes by for the GV 80. They just can’t build them fast enough
Driving a Porsche Macan GTS that I spec ordered; but I need more room and getting older. The GV80 just looks like a great value that checks most of the boxes; and with maintenance for three years and the long warranty; I just have to drive one. I assume the GV80 is as big or bigger than Porsche Cayenne. Your review is just outstanding; wondering when these will hit the dealers??
Thank you for compliments. The GV80 is bigger than a Cayenne (I have a Cayenne). I love the Macan GTS, a very fun and sporty CUV. The warranty is 10 years/ 100k mile warranty. GV80s will be in dealers this week or next, make sure to drive a loaded one.
Hi Malaika224! While the upcoming MDX is certainly a big improvement over the current one, I can tell you this Genesis is superior solely on the fact that it is based on a Rear-Wheel Drive architecture vs the MDX which uses a modified Front-Wheel Drive platform straight from the Honda Accord. RWD offers better handling characteristics, near-even weight distribution, and compliant ride quality vs anything FWD. Also, this Genesis (All Genesis models + the Kia Stinger and K900) are being built at Hyundai's Ulsan Factory in South Korea, which has much stricter quality control standards vs the Honda/Acura mfr facilities here in the USA, Mexico and Canada (Honda/Acura no longer manufacture vehicles in Japan. The Acura RL/RLX Sedan was the only exception, and it's been long discontinued!). This fully loaded Genesis will probably ring at $5-$7K more than a fully loaded 2021 MDX, but the GV80's superior powertrain, architecture, technology, design, and build quality warrants it! Great review as always, Lauren! Can't wait for the smaller GV70 to be released.
The Car Coach Rwports logo in the bottom left corner is blocking some of the informational text about the car so maybe that should be removed from this video & future videos so it doesn't block the information from Genesis
Great review as always. I am excited to check out the GV80. Curious to know what happened at 5:41 when safety system started beeping. Can you share what happened there?
Oh, the car in front of me was lost and it the brakes. The emergency intervention, synced the belt and braked heavily to avoid a collision, it reacted very quickly. Surprise! 😁
@@CarCoachReports actually the way the seatbelt seemed to compress your LH upper chest area bothered me as just 3 mo. ago I had a Pacemaker installed and have anti clotting meds for AFib so such a jar could be problematic.
Is the final rating the sum of all the ten categories? Because if it is, my arithmetic was 94, not 96, which is exactly the same as the rating as the new G80, except the G80 got 10 on seating while the GV80 got a 9, while the GV80 got a ten on technology while the G80 got a 9...
Really leaning on getting one of these in the Prestige package. However the dealer told us that the Prestige trim doesn't come with the 3rd row. Is this true?
I was thinking, what did you do before car reviews? Stock Analyst for Morgan Stanley? The level of detail here is amazing as is the practical information. I've had two V8 BMWs over the past 12 years and seriously considering this one for the interior and value. Looking at the new BMW X5 M50 I was annoyed at the tail pipes being fake, 97k and fake tail pipes, really? The other thing I love here is concierge services, not sure how they can make money on that but its huge. Come pick up my car and service it and bring it back, I am sold on that feature alone.
Thank you very much for the kind compliments. I have worked in the auto industry for almost 40 years, manufacturing, consulting, analysis, journalism and dealer training to name a few. For the money, I think you’ll be very impressed with a fully loaded Genesis GV80. Lincoln also has a concierge service called Black Label. Customer Service is king!
@@CarCoachReports Oh great to know. I come from Detroit so half my friends are in the car business. One of my best buddies has started and Automotive SPAC, so proud of him. Very impressive review as always Lauren! Very nice looking vehicle for the price range! Could replace my Durango :-) For a 1st generation product there's not much wrong!
Good choice! This is really a great value and longer warranty too.
You never have to ask, "Can you lift your arm, please?"
It's sexy, sensual, & smart in ways I've never encountered. Ten ✨
Thank you for sharing your experiences.
I suggest all wheel drive if you’re going to be driving in the snow.RWD would require snow tires
Could the early shift points be because they need to fit all eight speeds in?
I had a two speed Ford-O-Matic in one of my early cars. I paid $1 dollar for it so I'm not complaining.
But 8, 10 speed automatics blow my mind.
Knowledge is power
Great Review! Very thorough but not too long!
Thank you 😊
Nice review very well done.
Thank you
If you swiped your foot to open the tailgate, you wasted motion. Just stand there. There's no foot sensor. It detects the fob. No need for spastic foot motions.
🤣
Thank you. Great review!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks
You are welcome. This is an impressive suv and great value.
The only thing that will hold them back on sales is the lack of dealerships to carry the brand!
Very true, they are working on that now.
I am looking forward to seeing the GV80 in the Washington D.C. area soon.
PHEV coming but no dates yet.
Genesis is avoiding the plug-in hybrid tech by going fully electric. There's spy shots of Genesis eG80 being tested in Europe.
It's should be a 3rd row seat option on most trim level and of course the higher trim level
That is true. I test drove quite a few different models and trim levels the third row seat can be purchased if you need it
great review yt recomendation finaly works subbed
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks. BTW, really helpful, great videos.
wireless CarPlay is missing and should be made standard; eliminate another wired connection; but it seems to be a great new suv.
Agreed on wireless Apple Car Play, we asked about that, it’s not on Genesis it’s Apple who is controlling who gets this software
The GV70 is just coming in to dealers this month. Its worth the test drive with both engines. Thank you!
@@CarCoachReports Will DO! Thank you again!🌟
Really good review.
Thank you
Nice video Ha I am old School, how about a CD player 🤔
Is it available in the UK? I have only seen a few second hand G80 on Autotrader. £15000ish for a 2015/16 30-4000 on the clock. They have just become available in my price range.
I’m sure GV80 will come to the UK.
Very informative. Thanks.
😊
Is the electric slip differential standard on all package levels?
An electronic limited-slip differential is available on 3.5T models as well, handy for off-pavement excursions and extreme weather conditions.
10 year Warranty! Wow. Here in UK Hyundai only give 5 year warranty. Or is this new for Genesis?
KIA, Hyundai and Genesis have always had a 10 year / 100,000 mile warranty
Love my Gv80 Prestige. The only improvements I would suggest is wireless Apple and Android Car Play and an option for a twin turbo V8.
OMG if they had a twin turbo V8, I’d buy one in a second! I do agree wireless apple car play and android auto is needed. Thanks for your comments
I think they did a awesome job on this, and you did an awesome job on all your reviews. This is how you TARGET the Germans!!!!
Thank you for the compliment and the sub. German vehicles have changed quite a bit over the years and I think this is a great opening for Genesis to come in with the GV80. I do think they need a performance version that really is powerful and handles
You say 45.900$ on dealers website and he Genisis is 48.900$ .. great explanation by the way.
Thanks. Got the numbers from Genesis.
@@CarCoachReports hmmmm...its true on many dealer websites $48.900.
I love this suv
OK my car GV80!!
Another great review Lauren. In your opinion, would you spend a
The extra $6k for the prestige pkg over tech pkg?
Yes the extras are worth it
I have seen every video of every review done on this vehicle and you by far hit all of the main points and I have to agree with everything you said.
@@williamlambert5610
10-year 100k warranty is as good as it gets.
I could see myself accidentally clicking park while attempting to click something on the screen 😂 Amazing vehicle, though!
😁
Does this vehicle have folding sideview mirrors? Apologies if I missed it in the video. Know the Pallisade does not have this in the USA.
Yes, it has power-folding outside mirrors, and puddle lamps.
SOLD!
I bought one this week incredible car no more BMW for me .. everything you said is true …..
Hey there! Any idea when it will be arriving in the Middle East? And which all trim levels?
Thanks for the great review. On the fence between this and the new MDX. Which would you choose, Lauren?
Tough call as we have not reviewed the new MDX yet. As of today, the GV80 is pretty impressive!
Thank you very much for the compliment. They just revealed the GV 70 online. Trying to get some video footage just found five photos.
The Car Coach Rwports logo in the bottom left corner is blocking some of the informational text about the car so maybe that should be removed from this video & future videos so it doesn't block the information from Genesis
I’ll do that thanks
Got a really valuable info
Great review as always. I am excited to check out the GV80. Curious to know what happened at 5:41 when safety system started beeping. Can you share what happened there?
Oh, the car in front of me was lost and it the brakes. The emergency intervention, synced the belt and braked heavily to avoid a collision, it reacted very quickly. Surprise! 😁
@@CarCoachReports actually the way the seatbelt seemed to compress your LH upper chest area bothered me as just 3 mo. ago I had a Pacemaker installed and have anti clotting meds for AFib so such a jar could be problematic.
That’s a good point. I never thought about that. I guess you can adjust the seat belt in a different area, there are adjustable height seatbelts
Does it have a locking rear diff?
electronic limited-slip differential
Is the final rating the sum of all the ten categories? Because if it is, my arithmetic was 94, not 96, which is exactly the same as the rating as the new G80, except the G80 got 10 on seating while the GV80 got a 9, while the GV80 got a ten on technology while the G80 got a 9...
Really leaning on getting one of these in the Prestige package. However the dealer told us that the Prestige trim doesn't come with the 3rd row. Is this true?
Yes, only the Advanced+ has a 3rd row.
Still like the new X5 M50 but this one might be a better value. Or maybe just get a subaru and beat the crap out of it, dog hair and all.
Which trim is this one? V6 or v4?
What will be the price in india.
