The big thing in the Octa's favor is the gated analog stick. Players like Broski, DrDannyPham, and GGPOGrayson use the analog stick as their main movement option despite its limitations on OEM controllers. The Octa directly addresses alot of those issues by having short travel to the gate, and by having an octogate where each of the 8 directions in a traditional fighting game is notched. This removes uncertainty when it comes to blocking low or hitting DPs, which is quite nice for players who prefer to play on analog. That being said, yeah, the pad's quite a step down from the fighting commander last generation, and it's disappointing they stopped making ps4 FCs.
Thanks for naming some players that use the analog for the octa. The analog is the best I've used and those are great players so I think that gives confidence to those looking to it for analog specifically.
Thanks, this is really helpful since most reviews dont talk much about the analogue stick! I wanna swap controller since I find inputting quick microdashes and dash cancels (blazblue and guilty gear) on xbox analog really inconsistent, do you think the octa's analog might be better for that purpose?
@@XercesBlues That depends on why you're encountering the issue but I think it could from the stiffer stick. I didn't have any issues with dashing short hops in kof or hyper hops. But I can't say for certain if it'll fix your issue unfortunately.
You're definitely right about the Hori Pad. I just picked up the New Hori Fight Commander Octa. Great Pad. Definitely gotta break it Down and tweak the pad function.
@@Zenkai.boost.Kekkei.Genkai someone opened up the PS5 version, and they made the connection pieces thicker and wider, which apparently fixes the issue or at the very least makes it take longer to break.
I'm not even done with the video yet but I already know you did an amazing job after watching the first few minutes. We are literally the same when it comes to these pads. I prefer the Hori FC4 but the terrible durability and the price has caused me to endure learning fightstick until a truly good pad of quality comes out that doesn't die that's also worth investing in. Well done on this video!! I look forward to your future videos.
Thank you! Honestly if they just remade the FC4 for the PS5 with better parts, I'd never buy another controller. Unfortunately I feel like I'm on a timer with any pad before they break. Even the Raion which I'm running at the moment.
I've noticed the gap in the middle of the d-pad makes a huge difference. I would not use any controller without a gap like the ps4 d-pad cause I can't wavedash superfast in tekken on any other types of controller. the gap actually helps me go back to neutral. when I used the fighting commander I couldn't swipe the d-pad as fast as I can like I do on the playstation controller and I always get misinputs
Your video actually helped me find a great controller. i've seen so many videos about the razor raion and so many have many complaints and negative reviews of it. But you convinced me to try the raion out, and i can say its the best fighting game pad for me. i unfortunately got the old version with no pivot, but even without it i was having a great time with it. I did look up a DIY way of adding a pivot, which wasnt hard to do for me as my first pad mod. Thank you for the video!
Thank you for taking the time making this, and highlighting a lot of issues I think these controllers have had over the years. I really like the fight commander but when kof15 came out out it really highlighted all the issues that I never really noticed playing Street fighter 5 or strive that I could not be as precise as I needed to be. I understand that short hops and hyper hops are high precision moves but I was always one frame off of getting the input and I was totally inconsistent in high stress situations. I'll try the razor controller you recommend it only because of how detailed you were about the other controllers so I know you know what you're talking about.
For Dualshock down / down back issue, its because if you press harder, that's mean you are hitting the edge of down d-pad, if you press sightly on the edge of each side, you may notice it can gives you down back or down forward according to the side's edge. Test on Windows controller settings, you will figure it out I think Dualshock is more adapted to people who dont press too hard, moreover the d-pad is very soft if you compare to others, i also use the tip of my thumbs, it might help in order to prevent accidental down-back input instead of down.
That's an interesting quirk. It would make sense that I would see it on multiple DS4 pads then. By reaction I pressed harder because I didn't want it to happen but I was causing more harm then good. Thanks for the tip :)
That's a great deal. My main problem with Raion was just that I wish the face buttons were placed like a centimeter higher and were a bit bigger so it felt more normal coming from playing with the Hori Fighting Commander 4. As it is, it was too easy for me to get face button misinputs especially with how sensitive and light to press they are. The Octa style clicky face buttons would also be an improvement on that controller I think. But as the HFC4 is getting phased out, I might actually have to switch to the Raion unless something else interesting comes out in the next year or two since Hori's new Octa was a huge whiff with that atrocious d-pad.
My biggest gripe with the Razer Raion are the buttons. I hate how mushy they feel. I don't press hard on buttons so when I tap on them the inputs might not register. I believe it's supposed to mimic fightstick buttons, which is something claw players might enjoy. Otherwise, for thumb, they're the worst feeling buttons out of any fightpad I've used. I'm currently using the octa. Buttons feel great, though the pad is overly stiff. Will continue to use in hopes that I could loosen it up. Just ordered the betop controller and I'm looking forward to trying that one out.
The buttons feel mushy because Razer Yellow switches have lower travel distance than traditional switches and moderate actuation force at 45G. If it bothers you that much just change the switches your self.
@@Ali_A_Art It does loosen up but still have a bit of that stiff feeling. I've been hoping around between that and Victrix's overly expensive Pro BFG controller (which has it's own issues). I'd say it's worth a shot, though you should look up what other people have to say. I do lean in favor of the octa, but I know others don't.
@@tamaskalem1492 Thanks bro, but l think you misunderstood my question, l meant if the dpad response still the same and response perfectly or does it went bad and missing combos using it
Gotta respect us pad players we can play on literally anything. There are some people that use the switch pro controller D-pad and that thing is extremely sensitive.
One thing that sucks about the Switch pro controller dpad is that some of them have inaccurate inputs. I've bought 2 of them over the years that will once in a while give false inputs upwards for no reason
I currently use a Dual shock 4 but I've separated the dpad buttons into individual pieces. It definitely increases accuracy but in general, the controller still hurts the fingers during and after long sessions. If you actually like using the ds4 I suggest doing the same if you're having issues with directional accuracy
My Hori FC4 is on its last legs and I also didn't want to pay double to replace it. The Raion looks good, but I have a bad history with Razer products breaking.
It's lasted about a year before I developed this issue ruclips.net/video/oXRGa6EAOIY/видео.html It's a great controller but I'm actually going back to my FC4 until it breaks. An alternative is to buy the switch version and get a converter for it. I may do that once my FC4 dies
Heyy! just ordered a Fighting commander octa. Since I only really play Street Fighter and the odd anime game (dbfz & gbvs) I'm not really worried about the jump issue you were describing. I've never used a 6-face-button controller so I'm a little worried about that, but I'm sure it won't take long to get acclimated to. Really excited to get it this Tuesday. Thanks so much for the video and your review! Hard to find good pad reviews that focus on fighting games
Yeah of course! You'll be fine since you can always use just the 4 face buttons and use the shoulder buttons as usual. Hope you enjoy the pad. Cheers :)
this is a great video, seriously good production quality! do you think that your opinions would be different if you used the edge of your thumb to do the inputs?
Thank you! I don't think it would change too much but I may like the Fighting Commander Octa a bit more. The dpad being small and having the throw be so short might make sense for players that use the tip of their thumb. But the stiffness would still be a concern. I can see myself getting less unintended inputs for the Betop Thorne when doing left right inputs. But that's about it, just a bit more accuracy when needed :)
I've played with Logitech f310 for a bit and I think ps3 betop's dpad are constructed the same. I've also had that missed input feeling months after. There is a short adjustable stick encased with a spring connecting the outer dpad to a piece making contact to the membrane inside. I've adjusted that spring (resistance) to fix it. Maybe take a peak inside?
The betop Thirn looks nearly identical to the first sf4 style mad catz fightpads that came out on 360 and PS3 and since its from aliexpress I would not be surprised if it is a replica of it. That being said those Mad Catz fightpads were some of the best and I still use mine. Great detailed breakdown btw.
Hey, thx for the news, man. I usually am well aware about fightpad news, but looks like i missed this one this time, so... again, thanks, going to google it now xd.
This was a dope video. I actually picked up the Hori PS5 fighting pad cause the D pad on my PS4 was absolutely destroyed and I knew if I got another ds4... Same shit was gonna happen so I decided to try the Hori and I've actually been liking it and man I'm able to finally pull off the half circle forward movements in Strive alot better. The only other problem I have with this controller is I'm not a fan of the way the d-pad is... But it's way better then what I was doing before and I'm actually used to it, I was having a issue of getting my quarter circles right, but the second I took a 3 day break from fighting games, boom not an issue anymore so it was probably a me thing. I think the DS4 is still better for me buuut I've gotten really used to be Hori pad and will be sticking with it for a while. Anime fighters have been pretty good for me, still struggle sometimes with the air dashes but with time my execution hopefully gets better. I'm still a scrub at fighting games that moved on from Super scrub to just scrub. Recently got to floor 10 with Chipp, doesn't mean too much but I'll take that little victory lol. Thanks for the video and sorry for the long rant lol
@@Chachironi already forgot the name but I'm definitely gonna give the cheap one you bought a go as well, cause you definitely convinced time to try it out!
5:09 this is the biggest issue with the analogue stick on this controller. It misses diagonals all the time. The Victrix BFG pro is a really nice stick especially when you replace the gate around it, but the travel distance of the stick to the edges is too long. The hori octa pad is perfect apart from the diagonals on the stick, so if a controller could combine the responsiveness of the victrix stick with the travel distance of the hori octa stick and make the rest of the controller like the octa, then that would be perfect.
I think it depends on hand size. My hand is medium size. I have the older batch of raion which don't have pivot in it. Even when I mod it to have a pivot, I still don't really like raion because it was too big, dpad is too wide it was harder to input motion, also I had a hard time pressing all the 6 face buttons efficiently. Lastly, it has some input lag despite the wired connection. It might be an issue of older batch, idk. I bought hori fighting commander octa for ps5/ps4 and it fits perfectly in my hand. I am able to press all the 6 buttons efficiently. I know understand why ppl like 6 face buttons on their fightpad. The dpad is at perfect size and it's not hard at all. I think it's just at the same hardness as 8bitdo pro 2 or just a bit softer. It also clearly more responsive and has higher polling rate than my razer raion. I tested the input lag with Xinput Test program from github. Octa is definitely the fightpad I searched for a long time. Hope that it won't break quickly as some user report. Just want to give more perspective. Thanks so much for the comparison!
The PS4 Era Hori Fighting commander, is the best fight pad of all time and it's a damn shame they stopped producing it the Dpad is legendary. Amazing bang for your buck back in the day, it was 60$ and now it's over 100-200-300$ for a new one in some places these days. smh.
Yeah for sure. Honestly I think all people want is a PS5 version and they'd be happy. But the Hori Commanders are discontinued now outside of the switch versions
@@Chachironi Yeah thanks for doing this video its very important. Personally I've been debating on trying the Octa PS5 Commander for my PC fighter pad. In fact I'm curious how do you think the PS5 follows up directly to the ps4 hori? I have been waiting for someone to do a direct comparison because the dpads look so different its Rea what sells it for me since I play alot of Tekken. I've had a PS4 Commander for 9ver 6 years not and it still works but I've started to ware down the plastic frame around the tightly sculpted dead from use so it sometimes gets a restricted press if it bumps into the frame wrong but thats the only problem. Everything else still works. Is the durability of the icta nearly as good to last 6 years like my PS4 hori?
@@SaltedMallows Its hard say for longevity but the build quality feels much nicer to the FC4. If you use the dpad I wouldn't recommend it but if you plan to use the analog stick, it's probably the better pads around for it. One thing though, any analog stick will eventually encounter stick drift so that would eat into it's longevity imo
@@Chachironi yeah that's why I loved the FC4 no stick to worry about but tbh I always wished it had 2 thumbsticks to use for other games but still somehow have the form factor.
I always thought the Razer Raion was the worst of them all. I started with the PS4 Fighting Commander, was my absolute favorite, sadly only lasted a year. Alternatives were the Switch version of the commander, but yea, would need a converter for tournaments. After that, I bought the Fighting Commander OCTA and the issue I had were mostly the D-Pad and the right bumper breaking off very easily, bought a second one and it had the same issues, I kid you not. Then I had the PowerA Fusion Pad, which I thought, was the best one, the build quality, the weight and everything... this was nearly top notch. But the common issue was the dpad again, having durability issues. Now inbetween the OCTA and PowerA, I bought a Raion, but immediately put it away, because I couldn't work with the dpad. And after 6 broken controllers, I switched to the Raion and I play with it today, even being competitive with it. It kinda needs a bit of practice to get comfy with it and it really pays out. Also seems that I have the later model and I never realised they added a pivot to it. So yea, I personally recommend the Raion for long-term/competitive use.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. By far the biggest issue I've had with pads in general is durability. I'm still interested in trying the Power A but since PS5 is going to be the standard for SF6 I'm looking for one with native support to it. I'm saving up to try the Victrix Pro BFG at some point so lets hope that's not bad. Hotashi seems to like it
Hey, thanks for reading all that! BTW not long ago after I wrote my original comment, I ordered the Victrix Pro BFG and I'm also satisfied. The only thing I was infuriated was the lack of incompability with the Software for so long, but the recent update few days ago, made it possible to use the victrix pro bfg. Because without it, you couldn't change your button layout. The original layout with the pightpad module still had double inputs for R1 and R2 and there wasn't a switch to replace the R1/R2 shoulder buttons with L3/R3. Currently I use it for games outside of fighting games, since my raion is still working well. But yea, if it breaks, I still got a substitute ;)
Thanks for the great video! I tend to press really lightly on the D-pad and triggers but heavier on the main buttons, so the Raion sounds perfect if I understood you right.
Once the Hori Fighting Commander (Not Octa) is broken in, it's the best for light fingers. The triggers are also low profile and easy to activate. It's just pretty stiff when you first get it. Out of the box, the Raion is my favorite though and should fit your needs :)
i'd say the reason that the xbox controller has the stick and dpad in those places is because the controller isn't really meant for fighting games, more so for 3d games, where the xbox is super comfortable to use
Thankfs for uploading this review vid. You really helped sell me on the Hori Octa, I have heavy hands and my Hori Fighting commander Pro is almost dead so was looking for a replacement. I also play with the tip of my thumb rather than the centre so I shouldn't have those issues with the light touch.
Sorry if you keep getting bugged about this video (thank you btw, I love how detailed you were about it) but it seems like after a few months the Razer Raion seems to deteriorate quickly? Such as double taps or ghost inputs. Also I can't find conclusive information about it, but some people say the Fighting commander OCTA has software updates that address diagonals now? How do you feel about both of these after 7 months? Do you still use either?
The Razer Raion deteriorating quickly isn't surprising since a lot of Razer's products have bad build quality. The double taps/inputs most likely come from the yellow mechanical switches they use since this is an issue on their keyboards as well
No problem at all, thanks for watching! Sorry for the late reply. Raion is still my main controller and I've played a lot on it since the video. No issues just yet! I don't press my buttons too hard so maybe that's helped mine stay alive. I've heard the same issues you mentioned so it's likely just a matter of time till I get issues. I ended up selling the OCTA unfortunately. Wish I could offer more insight there.
I think the series x dpads is perfect. Nothing beats the tactile feedback it gives you. If you goof up a input, you’ll feel it and know what to correct.
@@timaragon Xbox has come a long way from the extremely goofy murder weapons they released 20 years ago, but I've just never been able to get comfortable with the offset pad/sticks.
2:50 its def the way you use your thumb. I get issues with that as well but i used the tip of my thumb(i bend it at the knuckle to play. Every ps4 pad has some sort of like zone where d to df inputs kinda are overlapped. i more so saying sometimes a controller will only register down for a very precise section of the dpad. like a little sliver
Glad you got the updated Raion, i'm tired of seeing reviewers get the non pivot version, the controller seems perfect with pivot, do oy u think Victrix BFG is as good or better than Raion?
any thoughts on the vitrix bfg? i just picked one up, im sure its cause im new on it but im dropping combos and also cant consistently get out those split second reversal attacks in sf6. i wanna like it but the fc4 is so good im spoiled, but of course the d pad on mine is getting gummy
After watching I decided to get the Hori Fighting Commander! I managed to find one for Switch for 30 bucks since I play on PC mostly, I did find one for PS4 but I think it was going to take about 2 weeks to get here...
Same here, i know, Switch is not best plataform for fighting games, specially her crappy online y no rollback but for single player is fine, i have Hori Fighting Commander for Switch on DB FighterZ, BBCF and UNIB, and i loved using that controller. Yeah, also i used on my PC for some games like Akatsuki Blitzkampf, and i can say with that controller is very satisfying. (Yeah, my pc old 2014 is crappy) i would like get a PS4 and that Fighting Commander for PS3/PS4 for my Future PS4 an PC gamer.
about the hori d pad there is a programm on the pc in which you can customize the sensitivity for the dpad so you dont have to put much effort on doing inputs since its precise keep that in mind
woah, you're using the dpad with your middle middle phalanx or, like, with a space between the phalanx; didn't think about doing it that way, im just rocking the dpad with the tip of my thumb
thanks a lot i was tempted to replace my old fighting commander with a raion turn out im going to just buy again the same controller , fun fact for me it is the button on my hori that went dead first
Definitely feeling more confident in getting a new Razer Raion now that they have pivots! I’ve been wearing out several PS4 pads. This will be a step up.
What? They added a pivot on the Raion and they barely mentioned it? The Raion was honestly my favorite controller design. It’s comfortable to my hands and the buttons feel good. The Dpad is what kept me away. Now I’m not sure if I want to buy the newer version since I’ll just have two of them. I simply got used to the ps5 controller which so far is not bad at all
Ps5 controller has a lot of ghost Inputs which comes very apparent when you are wave dashing with King in tekken 7 there is sometimes a forward input when pressing down so you basically do f n d df f but put comes f n df f which Breaks the dash
I've been really curious of the PS5 controller but I was worried I would get the same issue I was getting on the PS4. I know Hotashi uses it just fine for GGST though.
@@Warsheep2k6 that’s actually interesting. I use the PS5 controller for Tekken and I’ve had no issue with movement like KBD or any other moves. Then again I don’t play King so I don’t know if that’s something that mostly affects him. PS4 controller is still the best but I no longer have a PS4. PS5 is my main console for now. Honestly I’ve been playing both KOF15 and Tekken 7 so far I think it’s a pretty solid controller. Maybe it’s because I got used to it but I think the hate it gets is unwarranted
@@Chachironi Its okay also I still notice the short hopping issue you mentioned in KOF on rare occasions when I short hop diagonally I just neutral hop. I have to be very careful sometimes with how i input it there seems to be little room for sloppiness because of how the dpad is. But for all other fighting games I played it was perfectly fine. So I think what you said about it was spot on
it's a damn shame that Sony locked out PS4 Controllers to not function with PS5 games. Makes me want to go PC only so I can pick which ever controller pad that I want

i had no idea the razer raion now has a pivot. im super disappointed because i enjoy playing on it and the one i have doesn't have one. I don't really wanna go out to find one but I'll definitely consider it if I go back to pad.
i'm trying to preemptively look for a replacement for my hori fc4 because of the durability issues people are mentioning and the razer raion sounds perfect, but damn razer doesn't even have it listed on the north american versions of their site and amazon is a bust. did they stop making them or something?
Yeah it looks like the stock's dried up over the last year. I tried looking for more last week and couldn't find any at a reasonable price. I'm picking up the Switch Fighting Commander and a Power A Fusion Fightpad as replacements to test out. They're both still in production at the moment
You might consider picking up a dpad from battle beaver for dual shock 4. It’s basically four individual buttons that replace the single piece dpad. Just got mine in today, not sure how I feel about it yet. It’s definitely more precise but I think that precision might take some getting used to.
I actually own some from when they first released it! It's the blue ones. I found that it actually becomes too precise and diagonal inputs become inconsistent. The single piece dpad gives some leeway since it's all one connected piece while the individual buttons require you to press both buttons to get that input. I'd get issues in Street Fighter where I'd miss DP's because my thumb didn't quite hit the down and right buttons. It does feel does feel great though. It replicates the feel of mechanical switches on the PS4 pad. I first got them when Sonicfox got a modded controller from Battle Beaver and was talking about the dpad years ago. Not sure if he's still using it these days.
I tried a split D-Pad mod for my Dualsense. It sucked ass so bad, the diagonal barely even register, I couldn't even beat a single level of Super Mario, reverted back to stock and it works perfectly.
@@WheeledHamster That's the issue I was running into. Because it's split, you need to make sure your thumb hits the both the right and up buttons accurately to get a diagonal input. I got a lot of dropped inputs and reverted back.
Hey, you mentioned on your betop review that you can change the shoulder buttons to L3 and R3. How did you do that? I could only switch the L2 and R2 with the L1 and R1 shoulder buttons.
Hey man, great review. Was wondering if also you had the chance of trying out the retrobit sega genesis or saturn style controllers? They look very promising.
What are you using for SF6? I am finding the dash cancels difficult with an analog stick on the ps4 dualshock and my dpad is just too stiff I can't really break it in on the left side. The right side is nice and soft and doesn't click I wish I could replicate that for the left part of the dpad it just kills my thumb on backwards half circles or special arts. I don't like the ps5 controller and the elite just doesn't have a good dpad for fighting games, the big gap under the dpad will slice into your thumb if you make a mistake.
I'm playing on the fighting commander 4 at the moment. I made an update video on why I switched from the Raion. Honestly it's slim pickings. If you use analog stick, you should use the Hori Octa. My main gripe was with the Dpad but the analog is one of the better ones on the market. Personally I'd recommend getting the switch version of the fighting commander but you'd need an adapter to play on PS5. I hear good things about the victrix pro BFG but it's $180 so I haven't tried it yet unfortunately
I have a Fighting Commander 4. Haven't seen much use, just didn't get anything out of it compared to DualShock 4. With DualSense being even better and just fitting perfectly in my hands I don't think I'll get the Octa. I want to want it because surely it's better than the stock but I don't really believe it is. I just have zero issues with DualSense.
of all of these pads, what’s the best for umvc3? currently i’m playing with a ps4 controller but i wanted to get a fightpad to be more precise on mu movements
My default recommendation is the Fighting Commander 4 or Power A fightpads. However I dont think UMVC3 uses the layout or features that well so you'd mainly be getting it for a better dpad. If you're concerned about money, I'd stick with DS4 for now
I'm having the same issue with the dpad diagonals my fighting commander octa but worse. I play street fighter 6 and drop simple quarter circle motions since only d, f is registered instead of d, df, f.

Superb music choice, articulate individual reviews, great diversity and tips. Well done! Thank you! Liked and subbed
Amazing review. Top notch logic and presentation. Super in-depth. Amazing work man
Finally a review from someone that actually plays fighting games
You're definitely right about the Hori Pad. I just picked up the New Hori Fight Commander Octa. Great Pad. Definitely gotta break it Down and tweak the pad function.
has the shoulder button blew up yet ? it's a known issue of the Octa , this controller is flawd from factory
@@Zenkai.boost.Kekkei.Genkai someone opened up the PS5 version, and they made the connection pieces thicker and wider, which apparently fixes the issue or at the very least makes it take longer to break.
@@dontayminter5614 can you link a video or something about this fix please ?
I would not use any controller without a gap like the ps4 d-pad cause I can't wavedash superfast in tekken on any other types of controller. the gap actually helps me go back to neutral. when I used the fighting commander I couldn't swipe the d-pad as fast as I can like I do on the playstation controller and I always get misinputs
this video is easily the best ive ever seen regarding pads. props to you man
Right on! Really thorough review and easy-to-follow thoughts on each.
Test on Windows controller settings, you will figure it out
I think Dualshock is more adapted to people who dont press too hard, moreover the d-pad is very soft if you compare to others, i also use the tip of my thumbs, it might help in order to prevent accidental down-back input instead of down.
That's an interesting quirk. It would make sense that I would see it on multiple DS4 pads then. By reaction I pressed harder because I didn't want it to happen but I was causing more harm then good. Thanks for the tip :)
octa thumbstick should not be overlooked, it is an incredible stick, the feedback from the octa gate just feels good.
I am actually looking for a ps4/pc fightpad and your video helps me a lot! Thank you
I love the Razor Raion, bought 2 refurbished pads at 30 each.
@@lostboy2637 That's interesting, but at that point, I'd rather just buy a different controller.
Hi, can you tell me how it went with octa and does the dpad still good after a year, lm thinking of buying one
@@tamaskalem1492
Thanks bro, but l think you misunderstood my question, l meant if the dpad response still the same and response perfectly or does it went bad and missing combos using it
Your finger speed and input accuracy is really impressive, precise and no button mashing...lol
Raion user here!! This video is great and informative
Solid info on the Razer Raion. Nice video.
Hori made a fighting comander for the switch that is identical to the 4. It works on PC.
Gotta respect us pad players we can play on literally anything. There are some people that use the switch pro controller D-pad and that thing is extremely sensitive.
I tried the Pro Controller just today I did so many misinputs its not funny xD
Its bit stiff for my liking imo
I hate clicky dpads
They are bit too tiring for motion inputs imo
Pad players are like automatic transmission drivers. If you really want to put your accuracy to test, try fighting joysticks.
@@TheDimanoid999 True I swapped to stick now
One thing that sucks about the Switch pro controller dpad is that some of them have inaccurate inputs. I've bought 2 of them over the years that will once in a while give false inputs upwards for no reason
Awesome in-depth comparison, thanks for taking the time to put this together and share your thoughts and experience, really helpful stuff!
The first video where someone has the same problem as I do. Very helpful. Thank you 🎉
I currently use a Dual shock 4 but I've separated the dpad buttons into individual pieces. It definitely increases accuracy but in general, the controller still hurts the fingers during and after long sessions. If you actually like using the ds4 I suggest doing the same if you're having issues with directional accuracy
I actually have the battle beaver dpad mod but it's a little too accurate for me funnily enough lol
Thank you for putting this video together man!
Amazing review, also highlighting the diagonal input is good since these inputs define whether a controller is truly worth it
8bitdo makes a great Sega Saturn controller. Only issue is that it only has 2 shoulder buttons instead of 4.
it does have a great dpad, it's cheap, the downside for me is it's size
Literally never heard of the Betop Thorn, but I just ordered one. For $25 USD why not give it a shot.
I'm really impressed with the Betop controller. I ended up buying one, I hope it lasts. I play on a 8bitdo M30 but it is a bit too small.
did it last
My Hori FC4 is on its last legs and I also didn't want to pay double to replace it.
The Raion looks good, but I have a bad history with Razer products breaking.
It's lasted about a year before I developed this issue
ruclips.net/video/oXRGa6EAOIY/видео.html
It's a great controller but I'm actually going back to my FC4 until it breaks.
This vid was stellar man. Keep it up.
Good news! 8bitdo will launch the NEO GEO Fightpad next month! You can already buy it in presale!
No worries, congrats on Floor 10! Always good to hear more input and experiences.
I miss that mad catz street fighter fight pad best fightpad ever.
Awesome vid! Thanks for the feedback on these peripherals!
Glad you're enjoying the octa! Input delay would've been a good thing I could've checked in the video. Thanks for the input
Great video mate, what would say is the best pad for SF V and what for MK 11 as they the games I play, thanks
The PS4 Era Hori Fighting commander, is the best fight pad of all time
and it's a damn shame they stopped producing it the Dpad is legendary.
Amazing bang for your buck back in the day, it was 60$ and now it's
over 100-200-300$ for a new one in some places these days.
@@Chachironi yeah that's why I loved the FC4 no stick to worry about but tbh I always wished it had 2 thumbsticks to use for other games but still somehow have the form factor.
the PS4 hori fighting Commander Works on ps5?
@Chacironi brooks wingman FGC let’s you use just about any controller with PS5
Yeah totally! It's a great controller for general gameplay.
And just a preference on my end due to fighting games :)
why dont they just add buttons on the d pad ?
That'd be sick.
That's great! Hope you enjoy the octa.
Omg I super appreciate you doing this video! I have the same problem with the d pad on my ps4 controllers too!
That betop reminds me of the madcatz fight pads back in the ps3/xbox 360 days...
After watching this video I was able to make a deduction, thank you brother !
I think the series x dpads is perfect. Nothing beats the tactile feedback it gives you. If you goof up a input, you’ll feel it and know what to correct.
Might be perfect if it wasn't in a terrible position.
@@timaragon Xbox has come a long way from the extremely goofy murder weapons they released 20 years ago, but I've just never been able to get comfortable with the offset pad/sticks.
100% agree. I never liked the Xbox dpads but the dpad on the Series X is amazing not only for fighting games but platformers too
2:50 its def the way you use your thumb.
The madkatz street fighter, and wrestling controllers for ps3 and Xbox 360 are the best fighting I’m buying one of those with a converter.
Wow. I actually have These controllers. Except the Xbox pad and the PS3 pad. Great Video bro.

any thoughts on the vitrix bfg?
i just picked one up, im sure its cause im new on it but im dropping combos and also cant consistently get out those split second reversal attacks in sf6.
i wanna like it but the fc4 is so good im spoiled, but of course the d pad on mine is getting gummy
Sorry I wish had input. I want to try it out someday. Hotashi made a good video on it but I'm not sure if he's still using it

Same here, i know, Switch is not best plataform for fighting games, specially her crappy online y no rollback
but for single player is fine, i have Hori Fighting Commander for Switch on DB FighterZ, BBCF and UNIB, and i loved using that controller.
Yeah, also i used on my PC for some games like Akatsuki Blitzkampf, and i can say with that controller is very satisfying. (Yeah, my pc old 2014 is crappy)
i would like get a PS4 and that Fighting Commander for PS3/PS4 for my Future PS4 an PC gamer.
Damn if only you made this before i bought the Hori fighting Commander Octa. Same issues.
Nice video but not for me because i play with the tip of my thumb. Playing with the base of my thumb feel unnatural to me
about the hori d pad there is a programm on the pc in which you can customize the sensitivity for the dpad so you dont have to put much effort on doing inputs since its precise keep that in mind
woah, you're using the dpad with your middle middle phalanx or, like, with a space between the phalanx; didn't think about doing it that way, im just rocking the dpad with the tip of my thumb
thanks a lot i was tempted to replace my old fighting commander with a raion turn out im going to just buy again the same controller , fun fact for me it is the button on my hori that went dead first
Definitely feeling more confident in getting a new Razer Raion now that they have pivots! I’ve been wearing out several PS4 pads. This will be a step up.
Was thinking about getting BeTop Thorn, but now I doubt it will survive the EWGF spam I was about to give to it
edit. 20:30, Ahh, that settles it then
Thanks man helpful video
So I guess my question is…if you still own a FC4 for the PS3/4 port can you use a converter to connect it to your PS5? And if so which one?
Wingman FGC from brook. Though it's often on backorder due to evo being around the corner
Edit: The octa dpad fucked up my thumb. Those corners are sharp!
Oof, I'm sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself!
Dude your execution is insane!
Thank you!
the replacement dpad for betop is good for driving games or plane games requires alot of movement which helps
Great video man
OOF Rushia BGM follows me wherever I go.
How would you rate the MadCatz Fightpad for SF4 and WWE brawl starz? The brawl pad compared to these especially the fighting commander 4 and betop
the ps5 octa dpad is stiff. mine broke in a bit after using it heavily and i like it a lot
Edit: Woops misunderstood the comment. That's great to hear!
I hope other's are enjoying the OCTA too
@@Chachironi Its okay also I still notice the short hopping issue you mentioned in KOF on rare occasions when I short hop diagonally I just neutral hop.
Excellent quality and great 's authentic and genuine! I love this 100% effective method for this game so unique and for sharing.

thanks a lot for this video. I've been looking to upgrade my logitech f310 (oh yeah, I've been playing with this bad boy for a decade now, lol). I'm looking for opinion on the hori fighting commander but it seems won't be good for strive
Right on brother right on
i had no idea the razer raion now has a pivot. im super disappointed because i enjoy playing on it and the one i have doesn't have one.
Great video, very useful!
Thank you for the nice video. What’s the best d pad for fff2 (Dragunov for example) ?
You deserve more subs.
Hey, you mentioned on your betop review that you can change the shoulder buttons to L3 and R3. How did you do that? I could only switch the L2 and R2 with the L1 and R1 shoulder buttons.
About the DS4 you must open it and paint a little bit with a pencil the pressure points on the Foil. And Viola! The DS4 is more sensitive.
Hey man, great review. Was wondering if also you had the chance of trying out the retrobit sega genesis or saturn style controllers? They look very promising.
They were on my list but I haven't picked them up unfortunately. I hear good things though. Especially for the price
@@Chachironi Nice. Yeah I was keeping my eye on that one but it is a bit of an investment as is the the wolverine.
Very helpful. Thanks
of all of these pads, what’s the best for umvc3? currently i’m playing with a ps4 controller but i wanted to get a fightpad to be more precise on mu movements
