A lot of newer stories seem to not value knowing when to stop the suffering, in the name of realism they seem to forget everyone gets a few glimpses of joy and as a story conceived to be read or watched you get to decide to end on that high note
Ophelia After All is such a cute book. I really love the sense of queer community in the book, the fact that we can end up finding each other before we even come out. Also it feels so reminiscent of being a teenager, how you and your friends are all going through shit and you only tell each other. I also like the theme of not being pigeon holed into an identity that doesn't fit you anymore or never fit you - with Ophelia living down to her friends and family's idea of the girl who's constantly in love. I still have beef with Ophelia's friend who kept shading her and then when she defended herself everybody acted like she was crazy. Ophelia put up with a lot of nonsense, but that's my girl.
I also got the Fairyloot Veronica Roth book (Poster Girl? I’m pretty sure it’s called) and it was simply not a good book, I don’t think you should feel bad about skipping it. I also agree that that particular edition was simply not up to par for a fairyloot book, I was honestly kind of shocked when I opened it at how half-done it seemed and if that was my first book from them I would be questioning it as well. I get the YA subscription too and I definitely think that overall I’ve been more impressed with the consistency of those books, although some of the adult editions have been really spectacular (like Babel).
I gave Notes on an Execution 4 stars too ⭐️ I think I would’ve given it 5 had it not been for Saffy’s chapters. I’m not a fan of detective storylines either and hers was no different, like I was just bored with her pov 😭 I read Hidden Pictures too and gave it 4 stars, I enjoyed it 😊
The growth from Kenya hating YA to it being one of her favorite age group to read

Fantastic reading vlog!! I've only read The Violin Conspiracy and agree with your thoughts on it although the thief was a surprise to me 🤣🤣
Mia Sosa and I do not vibe either. I'm glad, she is popular but I'm definitely not her target audience.
Oh, that special edition book is stunning

I love Sign Here. I got it from BOTM and finished it in two days. I loved the concept.
I LOVE your book reviews. Also, I see you jumper is adidas - where can I buy it (apart from the adidas website 😂 ). I need it in my life xx
Yes we love a library trip
The Violin Conspiracy sounds exactly like The Goldfinch 🤔
300 pages in 3-4h? Goddamn! I knew Kenya had to be a fast reader but I didn't know she could literally speed read 🤯
I wish I enjoyed Notes on an Execution like everyone else but every time I think about it I like it less and lower my rating more lmao
I have notes on executuon on my book shelf. I may pick it up now.
🖤💕🖤💕🖤💕
i gave the mia sosa book 3s, too. she and i didn't match lol
