The Weight of Blood and Monday's Not Coming were SO GOOD. I was so invested. Tiffany truly understood Carrie and what made it such a great and memorable story.
On one hand I think, “where were her books when I was a preteen/teenager?”On the other hand, they probably would’ve been banned at school libraries. If they let no Stephen King books in, they certainly weren’t about to have a Black version of “Carrie” hit the shelves. In college, there are YA books at the library that I’ve heard of and/or read. Then, there’s books I’ve never heard of in my life and they came out the same calendar year. P.S. “13 Reasons Why” was available to read at the 3rd grade, so age wouldn’t have been the issue here.
I'm scared to read another Tiffany D Jackson book after Monday's Not Coming bc I've never felt so sick to my stomach for months after reading a book before 💀. But I will for sure come back to her once I get my mental health and therapy routine down pat
That's so relatable, i also can't stop buying books even if i told myself i wouldn't 😭 ... and I don't even read them?? it's wild. there's something about buying books that feels so addicting. But I have the same goal this year as you, of finishing the books i already own, so hopefully we can do it!!
Lily I think you'd adore Bernice L. McFadden. She makes incredible black historical fiction. Gathering of Waters and Sugar is the best novels I've ever read honestly.
I got chills when you started talking about motifs because they're favorite too and also the reason why I love the great Gatsby. I even had an English teacher call me up in the middle of class to see if id done the hw yet because she wanted to know what I was marking because she was trying to get ideas...like ain't this your assignment?? but I used to annotate DOWN so she had the right one I guess 💀
Great minds think alike. I was just thinking I need to catch up on all of Tiffany’s catalog. I’ve read 3 of her books and loved them all. I am gonna spread it throughout the year. I’m so excited.
I agree with you that the backstories of mysteries are never interesting but I like the one person dying among friends trope. I just hate the lack of diversity. It’s always the same type of people. If you’re looking for a music book rec, The Final Revival of Opal & Nev was one of my favorite 2021 reads.
You’ve made me love Tiffany D Jackson and I haven’t even read one of her books yet. I just realized how much I could love audio books listening to Black Cake, so Weight of Blood is next on the list for me. I am part of the anti black trauma crew, it be too much on my soul chile, so I appreciate when you mention it cus at the very least, I need a heads up
I held my breath until you finished Allegedly with your review. 😂 I loved this book. It was the first book I read by her and knew she was going to be an auto buy. I love her books.
Mondays not coming was one of my favorite books of last year and I'm super excited to read grown (I've heard so many good things about it), allegedly (I love a book that can make me think), and let me hear a rhythm (I love books about music what can I say)
thanks kenya!! you’re the one who put me on tiffany d jackson. i’ve read grown, the weight of blood & whiteout so far because of you. i am definitely interested in more of her catalogue! i love the long vlogs🖤🖤
Keep fighting Kenya, stop giving these mid/meh ww time, money and attention! They dont like us back anyway. 😂 Edit: I love that you watch Jess Owens. What did you think of the Goodreads Choice Awards project, she participated in?
Sis follow me, I’m 111 Gateway on Goodreads! 😊 for some reason the Follow button on your page isn’t working. I’m on my black history reading kick. I’m currently reading Krystal Marquis’ debut novel The Davenports. Allegedly was also one of my reads this month. And get yo Yonce tickets I will be there!! I’m in the 100’s but I’m bout to sell that and get me a floor seat. We’ll prob be at the same show if you’re going 7/29. But I’m thinking I’d also wanna see her in Miami or NOLA, but we shall see.

I actually LOVED the Weight of Blood. People might think I’m crazy but it’s my favorite from her and I read Grown and Allegedly.
Great video, I love the way Tiffany D Jackson writes "timelines" in her book, it's really unique 🖤🖤
