I’ve owned this game since release, and played it through many, many times - including on European Extreme - and I didn’t know you could shoot Fatman’s rollerblades to make him fall over. This game is still impressing me with its meticulous detail over 20 years after its release. This was a great run too.
I was just remembering the photo I snapped of Fortune reloading between aggravated volleys of rail gun fire she threw at me in the base of the first strut. They bothered to animate and keep track of the same magazine count for that thing that it has when you can buy it in MGS4, In this game, 4 or 5 years before it... in this video the fight is around 23:00; the pause while she reloads is in the sequence but it'd be hard to tell why Fortune briefly stops firing double-taps at you.
"If you have a second controller plugged in you can control the flag" I've played this game so much and yet there will always, ALWAYS, be more for me to learn about it.
When he said "Might have to use a continue here", I was so bummed for him. Then he managed to salvage it. Just a casual Big Boss run on an immensely difficult game at SGDQ with tens of thousands watching. God like performance.
That was a great point about using turbo. I love controllers with turbo functioning to not only prevent my hands from being negatively impacted, but it also helps preserve the life of the controller. For persons with accessibility needs, turbo buttons can be game changers so keep spreading the word!
Just want to say that I've been playing through MGS2 on Hard and Extreme recently, trying to get all of the dog tags for the achievement, and the boss strategies that are demonstrated in this run are super helpful! Thank you, dlimes!
I just love how a community of dorks knows more about the game than the friggin DEVELOPERS of the game. Mgs2 was one of my favs growing up thanks for breaking it to pieces dlimes
Of all the Metal Gear Solid 2 runs performed at GDQ, this is the first one to ever achieve the highest rank Big Boss. -No Kills -No Alerts -No Continues
How have we improved hardware yet hardly any games have this level of little mechanics and details. Don't even start on mgs3! Amazing memories with these games too!
Thank you so much for playing this game! That reminds me... when i was about junior high school, i played this game. I was so scared when CODEC suddenly talked so weird lol.
I watched “This is how you don’t play MGS2” before this video and the difference is staggering. I wish DSP could watch this video before complaining that everything is the games fault.
Ngl, when he said that he was going to attempt Big Boss, in my mind I saw all attempts of it in other runs, how all of them failed in just a small moment and the rest was perfect, this run was like finally the beast was vanquished, it was exciting and kind of beautiful
Yeah, I forget who originally used it when turbo was originally being adopted in the MGS2 speedrunning community, but it's kinda become the de facto toggle sound now.
I don't know how many times I've played through this game, but it never occurred to me to chokehold Emma across the bugs on Shell 2 Core B1 Excellent performance lads
It's interesting how the reactions vary.. My best friend and I laugh our asses off at that section. Another friend who's also into MGS is like you, creeped the fuck out by it.
Around summer 2007 or 2008 (I was 10 or 11) I beat the plant section on easy in like 1:42:00 and some change. I thought I was a god 😅😂😂 this is amazing. Such an awesome game
Man, watching the Metal Gear Ray right really brings me back... I'm not a speedrunner, but I have beaten this game on Extreme (not European Extreme) on several occasions (dogtag runs on at least 3 different versions) and ....the fight is intense enough that a damage loop like that is just about necessary to win at all. My loop wasn't quite as optimized as that, but...yeah, that's a lot. Heck, for a while I had a couple of Extreme save games where I'd just, for fun, load up the ray fight, kill them, let solidus choke me out, then load up the solidus fight and kill him. (This was for the PS2 version, where I can't even mash through the hard version. Had a friend who could, and who also had a turbo controller he let me borrow for a while.) Both fights are just so satisfying when you know how to do them well.
after so many years i learned that u can drop on the pipe on the side after the bossfight with the plane, i died so many times trying the cartweel to go over XD
Really impressive, good job... also totally agree with torture decision... its ridiculous on extreme/ euro extreme... I had to use a turbo controller back in the day myself for it LOL
thats amazing, but yeah, if you cut to FPS, the field of view on guards is short. I had no idea PC release ran so well, I thought it was like Windows Vista or something obscure even by 2003 standards
Right now there's no legal way to buy a digital version of the game, yeah. Konami's apparently working on it (that was their "big 30th anniversary announcement")... Other than getting it from The Internet, you could get a copy of the original DVD version from somewhere like eBay. Installing V's Fix on top of it gets you something that's better than the base GOG version, but not quite as good (e.g. some audio issues, such as only having left-side audio in some cutscenes) as GOG combined with V's Fix.
no, not even close, in MGS2 and most other games in the series, we take igt (in game time) which only ends after the credits when your time is revealed.
GDQ times are in real time and usually end at the last bit of proper gameplay, so they often don't reflect the times that would end up on a leaderboard. This run would've been 1:19:47 (or maybe 46).
Yeah, it only works on Sons of Liberty on PS2, was fixed for Substance on Xbox/PS2 by having Raiden stand on the floor correctly when pressing the button from prone.
i see you playing this game when i got the one that needs to be eyed on the scanner after i got what button do i have to press to press to get him to eye the mug because i can't at all it doesn't work like splinter warm horse sound, do you understand what game we are talking about, I will leave it as it is, it doesn't work like you come to Ana with your back with the enemy taken by the head and put him alone on the scanner, the job is pressed on a button, after that I grabbed from behind what button to press because I don't know, it's not dreaming, it's very annoying
Great run, but have you actually played the HD Collection? PS3 does not lag like you say. Maybe a few less frames, but it doesn't slow down. You can go ahead and favour the PC version, that's your choice, but the HD Collection really is an excellent remaster. The PC version is a port.
They're probably referring to the DS3 controller which does have more input lag compared to the 360 controller. Then there's the load times on both systems compared to PC. In a casual setting though, the HD Collection is easily the best way to play.

Of course they snuck in a way to use the 2nd slot in a MGS game.
imagine the sheer amount of bullshit you'd have to be doing to realize that little note lmfao
WHY THO
Wait what Flag ?
@@raphakern7801I’m guessing the flag where you destroy the boxes so the c4 doesn’t go off right before you fight the harrier
When he said "Might have to use a continue here", I was so bummed for him. Then he managed to salvage it.
Just a casual Big Boss run on an immensely difficult game at SGDQ with tens of thousands watching. God like performance.
nice Haruhi pic

My god. He was only hit twice in the run, and in Arsenal. That's insane. GG, dude.
Without free will, there's no difference between submission and rebellion. Great run! MGS2 is a timeless masterpiece.
I've beaten MGS 2 dozens of times over the years. And this was INCREDIBLE.
Just want to say that I've been playing through MGS2 on Hard and Extreme recently, trying to get all of the dog tags for the achievement, and the boss strategies that are demonstrated in this run are super helpful! Thank you, dlimes!
One of my absolute favourite runs from SGDQ2022, fantastic work everyone.
I remember playing this game so much growing up and man. All the memories flowing back again. Absolutely phenomenal run and outstanding event!
man I love dlimes, hes got such a great personality and it's the perfect balance of jokes and being super serious about his runs. Love him
Awesome run, enjoyed every minute of watching this live
"I think he's just going to diffuse the situation" 1:01:40
I was dying at this joke. I love it.
I'm not much of a gamer but I love watching people play games and this is just incredible.
I just love how a community of dorks knows more about the game than the friggin DEVELOPERS of the game. Mgs2 was one of my favs growing up thanks for breaking it to pieces dlimes

ah yes, the sneeze buffer.
That damn sneeze got me caught my first time playing mgs2. I sas so floored when it happened.
Thank you so much for playing this game! That reminds me... when i was about junior high school, i played this game. I was so scared when CODEC suddenly talked so weird lol.
Yee I felt that. I was like, "maybe I should go outside."
fission mailed. lol that freaked me out.
I watched “This is how you don’t play MGS2” before this video and the difference is staggering. I wish DSP could watch this video before complaining that everything is the games fault.

Can we all just appreciate the timings to meet that bomb st 17:06. Such a neat strat.
Limes, Glen, Joe and Apache make a very good team. Not only did i enjoy watching the run, i also enjoyed listening to them
Hearing the Fallout V.A.T.S. sound whenever they enable/disable turbo while they're playing MGS2 is screwing with my head, lol
Yeah, I forget who originally used it when turbo was originally being adopted in the MGS2 speedrunning community, but it's kinda become the de facto toggle sound now.
That was incredible! So much skill on showcase... Great stuff mate
what a legendary run. Amazing game, amazing player and couch. 10/10
Absolutely breathtaking run. Legendary.
I don't know how many times I've played through this game, but it never occurred to me to chokehold Emma across the bugs on Shell 2 Core B1
Excellent performance lads
To do that in front of thousands of people, just wow. Dlimes would have deserved his name in the top of the Dog Tag Extreme list. Good Job !
the section at the end of the game where the colonel tries to distract you is so damn creepy :D As a kid, it got me spooked everytime :DDD
It's interesting how the reactions vary.. My best friend and I laugh our asses off at that section. Another friend who's also into MGS is like you, creeped the fuck out by it.
For real ha ha ha ha I turned off my ps after he tells you “you’ll go blind” 🤣🤣🤣
One of my favourite games of all time.
Damn Dlimes, with the game over when discovered. "Excellent Solider".
the pop off was amazing, great run dlimes and congratulations on your marriage!
Happy to see Dlimes back at GDQ but this time playing MGS2, whst a fantastic run
Great run and absolute popoff getting big boss at a marathon
Around summer 2007 or 2008 (I was 10 or 11) I beat the plant section on easy in like 1:42:00 and some change. I thought I was a god 😅😂😂 this is amazing. Such an awesome game
Outstanding
That run was…. Solid
Underrated comment.
What a legend! Great couch commentary as well.
What a run. And the couch had top notch commentary.
This is the greatest run that's ever been performed at GDQ.
GG Great run Limes 👍
Damn, he's smooth with it. This was fantastic.
That Ray bossfight was beautiful
That was super dope bro! Well done!!
Amazing. Well done.

Never would I hear "sneeze buffer" in my life lol
Lets go DLimes! Good Job :)
Unbelievable run dude wow
I remember when I was younger after defeating Fatman. I did not use the bomb detector and I could not find the bomb😂
I went nuts when I couldn't identify what that 'turbo enabled' sound effect was from.. Then I remembered it was the Fallout VATS sounds.
after so many years i learned that u can drop on the pipe on the side after the bossfight with the plane, i died so many times trying the cartweel to go over XD
That was impressive
Amazing !
59:45 What was THAT?!🤣
also Rosemary's donation... 💀
ENEMY IN THE AIR!
Howdy Joe! ;)
Good run DLimes!
Very good run, and Big Boss rank too!
What a great run!
You're pretty good!
Raiden casually swimming with Emma on his back is something else lol
never played the 2nd one or even watch it before some how. lol this game was so before it's time wth
There aren't nearly enough people watching this run. What an iconic game
I owned this game during the ps2 era, and I even got my Big Boss rank. I still have nightmares about that one.
12:54
5 frames later, it would have been a game over.
As a causal MGS player, the entire run had me puckered. It’s such a narrow margin on most interactions. Definitely a master of the craft!
These guys are really getting into the ninja mindset!
Great gameplay and commentary from the guys. Truly impressive and entertaining run.
its funny how the timer/turbo sound is just the RaC 3 menu sounds
Really impressive, good job... also totally agree with torture decision... its ridiculous on extreme/ euro extreme... I had to use a turbo controller back in the day myself for it LOL
EY YO shout out to JosephJoestar316's jokes. I appreciated them!
Only took me a year to beat it on extreme. But hey no problem there was no guides or community on that at the time
Wow just wow!
wow. awsome run
36:42 wth you can do that?! nice jump!
thats amazing, but yeah, if you cut to FPS, the field of view on guards is short. I had no idea PC release ran so well, I thought it was like Windows Vista or something obscure even by 2003 standards
It was XP lol
I've played this game so much and I'm only just now finding out that Fatmans feet are a weak point.
Moving box not suspicious in room with moving boxes
Good one
You're pretty good
first! One of the greatest games ever made!
If only there was a way to buy this and MGS3 on PC huh?
Both on steam now 😉
I didn't see anything all I saw was just a box Lol!! 18:18
Where do you get this game for PC? GoG had it for a moment, but removed it a while ago. I think for licensing issues on some of the live-action clips.
Right now there's no legal way to buy a digital version of the game, yeah. Konami's apparently working on it (that was their "big 30th anniversary announcement")...
Other than getting it from The Internet, you could get a copy of the original DVD version from somewhere like eBay. 30 years old is old
Im confused, is this a wr? The any% WR for european extreme was 1:16:33 on pc
no, not even close, in MGS2 and most other games in the series, we take igt (in game time) which only ends after the credits when your time is revealed.
Looked this up based on your comment and from what I can tell this totally is a WR. But maybe not since Turbo is enabled?
It wasn't, they count the time in-game, and the in-game timer only stops after the credits, when the ranking appears.
It should be WR.
GDQ times are in real time and usually end at the last bit of proper gameplay, so they often don't reflect the times that would end up on a leaderboard. This run would've been 1:19:47 (or maybe 46).
I'm confused. Does the out of bounds skip for the underwater part not work for this version?
Yeah, it only works on Sons of Liberty on PS2, was fixed for Substance on Xbox/PS2 by having Raiden stand on the floor correctly when pressing the button from prone.
Is MGSV gonna be run too?
you're pretty good 👈👈
How do you play this on pc?
i see you playing this game when i got the one that needs to be eyed on the scanner after i got what button do i have to press to press to get him to eye the mug because i can't at all it doesn't work like splinter warm horse sound, do you understand what game we are talking about, I will leave it as it is, it doesn't work like you come to Ana with your back with the enemy taken by the head and put him alone on the scanner, the job is pressed on a button, after that I grabbed from behind what button to press because I don't know, it's not dreaming, it's very annoying
IDC what anyone says, Emma is literally best girl on MGS period
Great run, but have you actually played the HD Collection? PS3 does not lag like you say. Maybe a few less frames, but it doesn't slow down. You can go ahead and favour the PC version, that's your choice, but the HD Collection really is an excellent remaster. The PC version is a port.

@1:02:40 HOW THE FUCK DID HE HEAL?!?!
When you have less than 1/3 HP and start bleeding, you can crouch or go prone to heal until you reach 1/3.
Ridiculous.
I don't even speedrun games, and I would love to skip that sniping section. It's such a slog
You're pretty good!
You're pretty good
