The best thing is that at the time, it was a very divisive game, or at least for most people, mostly due to the Raiden plot twist and some of the themes the game touches. IMO MGS2 (and 3) are the best entries in the series.
25:21 - The reason that the bomb is in an easy-to-find location on Euro Extreme is because it explodes when you get close to it, so therefore it’s easier to trip it. It’s basically placed there to make sure that you have Sensor B equipped, which is the only way to find it without seeing it.
I remember actually finishing this game on April 30th. Once I realized this actually happened blew my mind. But that's not the reason this game is one of my favourites. It's the amazing memories, the gameplay, the fun times I had with this game. It was an brilliant journey that made me feel a lot of things. It's sad to know that we'll never ever get a game similar to this one. And I wish I could play this game for the first time again. This, and all the other MGS games. Super good run Tyler. Good stuff bro
Johnny definitely has a relative in MGSV. There's the tape of the soldier with diarrhea in the toilet. Just want to make sure everybody knows the toilet humor is definitely there.
Charging Elincia portable ops is canon. Kojima states in an Interview it’s canon (save for the teams you make with characters like zero and Eva etc). It’s even directly referenced in peace walker multiple times, and it’s got flashback scenes in mgs4. Doesn’t get more canon than that. I wish fans would stop this dumb debate.
What are the odds that I picked up this game and started playing it again to find this brand new speed run of it in 2019. I’m starting the year off right!
This game was the only reason i begged my parents for a PS2... i'll never forget the countless hours of joy this game and the entire MGS franchise gave me!!! Also, amazing run!!!!
Dude this is spectacular dudes, like not only is this game still, ever all these years soooooooo freaking impressive to look at (I feel like we don’t really have any other game that feels like this one). But then on top of that seeing the strats that speedruners have been optimizing for so long is nothing short of breath taking. An absolute joy to watch this segment 🤍
picked up MGS2: Substance at the PX in late 2001 or early 2002 and played the absolute dog shit out of it. I got out of the Army shortly there after and wrecked my car. I was stuck at home for months on end with no job and I would blow through this whole game multiple times daily. Same with the VR missions. I put up some insane times on some of those missions, pushing the threshold of discovery to it's absolute limit. Of course this was long before RUclips, and I don't even think we had a decent DSL service at the house back then, but I played that disk til I wore it out. Sometime around the end of 2003 my brother picked up a copy of FFXI online and that quickly became my focus, but I eventually bought SnakeEater as well, and that was another glorious game. The replayablility on these MGS games is just unbelievable. I still have my copy of Snake Eater and Substance but my ps2 has long since died.
I remember getting the demo for MGS 2 with Zone of the Enders (I think). The demo allowed you to play through tanker ship level you see at the start, man I must've played that same level at least 50 times.
I paid my friend £5 for his demo disk of Metal Gear Solid 1 and I had spent hours upon hours playing it just because it was the first “ proper “ stealth game I played plus the opening part was soooo great
So nice to watch this run it brings me back a lot of memory when we were playing this game with friends. But this guy is rly skillfull and i cant even imagine how much time he had to spend to master it this way.
I miss this game. Metal Gear Solid 2 Play 2 👍I liked Metal Gear Solid 1. Motion Story. The most beautiful game in the history of games. Thank Hideo Kojima. Thanks to the owner of the channel🙋🙋🙋
Watching the Tanker chapter I thought this wasn't E Extreme as I got all dogtags on PS2 but Tyler was just that good. Boy did I struggle with the Rays onwards on Extreme. The choking part is so much easier in the HD version.
the amount of detail in this game is insane. on my 2nd playthrough I didn’t know you could shoot enemy radios, shoot security cameras, or click the projector
*Spectacular* RAY fight. Wow! I used to consider myself quite good at the bosses in this game, (back when I played it regularly) and I'm pleased to see how many of the strategies I use are present in a speedrun, simply more refined. I know just how intense that RAY fight is, and on my best run through this, I managed to maintain that kind of pattern for almost half of it. Keeping it going the whole way through like that...absolutely magestic. (If you're wondering what strategies were novel to me: Olga was new (toughest boss in the game for me), Guard rush strats (mainly because, as a casual player, you can afford to be much more conservative), corner shot I-frames (you're supposed to be dodging Fortune by rolling back and forth. It's nuts. Also very useful in the Harrier fight , since the alternative is a lot of careful positioning to get level geometry in the way), the Tengu skips, and Solidus (who I never even tried to optimize, since by that point I'm feeling really good about myself after the Rays and quite enjoy the weird swordfighting mechanic). Fatman, Vamp and the Rays are exactly what I tried to do, only, y'know, with proper execution.) Keep in mind, this is for the bosses. I enjoy the slow, methodical approach to games, which is what drew me to stealth games in general and Metal Gear Solid specifically in the first place, so my approach to the inter-boss segments is entirely different. I've also never done anything higher than normal without the stealth camo. The reason I used speedrun-esque strats for some of the bosses is because they tend to be pretty overwhelming if you let them get momentum. Even fatman, as they said, can screw you by hiding 5 bombs and giving you a 30 second timer. The Harrier has enough variability in its moves that it will kill you eventually, if you don't kill it first. Vamp's actual combat cycle is *insane* at Hard and above, making him all but impossible without abusing his response to the hanging mode (though you can do a full punch punch kick cycle and just go back into hanging mode instead of doing the double-punch-pause-double-punch loop if you're not worried about time). The Rays, again, are best dealt with through the use of overwhelming aggression, because if you let them get set up, they can get you to the point where you can barely even get a shot off.
Listening to that donation about the guy that his mom had cancer and how video games helped him and his brother through it really hit me, this is so cool. The people running this and all the amazing people donating are really making a difference.
Awesome run. I wish there was an alternate ending where Emma doesn't get stabbed if you kill vamp in time or something of that nature - similar to the alternate endings of the 1st one. I always hated that she gets stabbed.
This is one of my favourite games of all time. So much humour, so much brilliant fun and stupid game mechanics. I went through european extreme like 15 years ago after completing it a million times when I was early teen lol this game is soo funny and just generally fun The brilliant random humour and easter eggs are amazing seriously. Overall this game is just incredible... I really wish some modern games had this style btw I actually thought this game was in the "awful games" block cause it played it for me at the end of the awful games playlist - I was like "why the hell is this in the awful block!?" I realised now of course that it's just a youtube mistake... it is as far from an awful game as you can get!!! I would seriously recommend anyone to try this game. It is SO much fun... I didn't know it was made easier in the final part on ps3... I struggled at the end on PS2, even with my cloth sliding strategy with the button mashing. I suppose it's nice that they made it easier, but it's a shame as well...

Tira Lyra has a wonderful commentary voice. She should be a woman announcer in WWE.
Hitting the boss on the side he can't see on because of his eyepatch is the kind of detail only MGS has.
JC yeah! :)

What the fuck lol

1:12:51 Amazing Snake impression! Sick run Tyler still watching in 2020
Still the best underwater swimming graphics I've ever seen almost 20 years later.
don't forget the rain, mgs2 had definitely the best graphics on ps2
that should've released on the ps3
Even MGS3 couldn't compete, and went with forced FPV
57:00 The audience in the back holding hands when Raiden does is the most wholesome thing ever and I love it
they had actually been doing that beforehand too.
Johnny definitely has a relative in MGSV. There's the tape of the soldier with diarrhea in the toilet.
Just want to make sure everybody knows the toilet humor is definitely there.
Never knew that, but MGS5 sucks. Also I am pretty sure Johnny father died in Portable Ops.
Mgs5 was flawed but great.
@@Tryhardblackguy Portable Ops isn't considered canon.
