Joshua Tree is a really amazing album with some of U2's most classic songs ever... but Achtung Baby is the 90's rival to it... because it was the sound of U2 chopping down the joshua tree

Always wondered how they created the camera images, like turning around between their legs, over their heads and back. It's probably simple stuff but still makes me think twice how they did it
The video featured a unique 360-degree camera rollover rig, designed and built by Simon Tayler of Artem in London specifically for the video.

The Fly without fly shades. This video was the real thing, one of my favorites musical videos.
I wish U2 were still as creative as they were during their Achtung Baby, Zooropa & Pop era.
POP is such an underated album of theirs. I totally agree, those era of their music was so wild and creative.
I'm missing the same with U2. I wish they had gourage to take a new leap same way as they did between joshua tree and ZooTv era.
@@workingZen Pop was awesome. Was criticised back in the day for being too much of a radical departure... But so was Radiohead, Underworld & Silverchair when they changed their genres. Each of them only expanded their audience.
I still like U2 (especially their shows), but I wonder how much more awesome they could have been if they continued experimenting every once in a while.

@@workingZen Agree, I felt the same way. They probably wanted a more stripped-back album to follow from Pop anyway (after the media backlash) but I think the huge popularity of 'The sweetest thing' and their 1980-1990 compilation album in '98 probably caused them to have a second rethink about the direction they were heading. They could have been alternative/experimental and less popular, or mainstream and highly popular, so they decided to play it safe and go mainstream.
It kinda made sense to go in that direction back then. But now, at this stage of their careers, they've already proven themselves. They should just go wild!

The camera work still inspires me to this day. I still don't understand how they did that track shot... is Bono stepping over the rig? Either way, the editing is also pure perfection.
They had some wheel shaped contraction that they called "the wheel thing". Director Kevin Godley explained it in a clip that came out the same time as the video.
It's brilliant.

The issue is ZOOTV, I believe was shot in video so you don't have much room to upscale and keep the great quality. These music videos were shot in film, so it's easy to make them 4k since film retains a high-end resolution.

@@DanRandom BTW, this video is a good example, because it has a lot of video takes, so the maximum resolution is 1080p. The Fly was shot entirely in film, so we have a 4K version. I am hoping the One and Mysterious Ways get the 4K as I believe all takes are film.

More credit? I mean, who cares. Achtung Baby is one of the best albums ever made that's quite obvious. It's basically complete. There isnt two singles and some afterthoughts. You could name every single song on that album and it's a classic in its own form. And I do believe the album is somewhat detached from anything they did before and after, although there are some songs from I think their next album that would have fit well on Achtung Baby as well, like "gone".

It was not a great success but I think it is an excellent track that knows how to mix very pop/rock rhythm and committed speech !
chart positions did not reflect the impact a song had on the public, very often. This track WAS a huge hit, you could hear it everywhere (radio, clubs, tv) long after its charts' life cycle had ended. For almost a year and a half
