Seeing Norquay always warms my heart. It was the home mountain for my ski racing team in the early 80's. I've always described it as the CBGB'S of ski areas - like the legendary Lower East Side dive bar in New York that birthed punk rock. Gnarly, rough around the edges and not for the faint of heart. The North American chair was like a portal to hell cuz it's main runs like Lone Pine had the steepest pitch and biggest iciest moguls in the Rockies. There was a great bit of mythology surrounding the North American in the 70's that you wouldn't be let on the lift if you were wearing a one-piece ski outfit made of slick or shiny material after a Japanese tourist in a shiny Bogner one-piece fell at the very top of Lone Pine and slid all the way to the parking lot at speed hitting his head on every lift tower on the way down. Did it really happen? Does it matter? That "no shiny suits on the North American" tale was traded at highschool smoking doors in Calgary for years. Norquay also had 3 nordic ski jumps for decades. The A, B, and C jumps. The C jump was built into the natural terrain in the trees near the old t-bar and was about 15 meters. The A and B jumps were skiers right of the North American with the A jump around 40 meters and the B jump 30 meters. These were proper ski jumps like you'd see on Wide World Of Sports just not 60 or 90 meters. Of course like any team athletic culture there was hazing involved when you joined up. I'm sure you can see where this is going. Straight to the top of the A jump the first training day that the jumps were open. You'd watch guys go before you and hold back, land right on the cusp of the knoll and get catapulted right out of their skis and do a full scorpion on their belly down the landing hill. At 13 years old it was beyond nerve-wracking. You had no choice but to do it at speed if you didn't wanna crash and embarrass yourself. But here's the thing: making it was one of the most invigorating moments I'd ever experienced on skis to that point. On training days we always had a couple hours of free skiing time after running gates and there were MANY days where my friends and I would just lap the A jump in the afternoon til one of the jumping coaches would tell us to beat it. At that point we would do our next favorite thing which was moving to the hidden C jump and building a kicker on the lip. That would absolutely drive one local jumping coach crazy. I have no idea why we were never banned from the jumps. Ah, the folly of a youth spent skiing! Love Mt. Norquay. It's legit going to be 100 years old in a couple years. Anyway, be glad you weren't wearing shiny one-pieces boys!
So much character at Norquay. Really awesome to hear your stories. I'd be crapping a brick if I had to jump off one of those classic style ski jumps onto an icy landing hahaha
Grew up racing in Calgary in the mid 90's and many awesome memories of races/training days at Norquay as well as Nakiska, Fortress, Sunshine and Louise. So much nostalgia man...
I remember those kinda days as well except our crew did it in the late 60's. We got a (35,000') pin for racing the chair down for the whole day, I think it was 30 runs if memory serves. A lot of work for a pin!
@@paultrudel9791 That was a big deal to ski the North American that many times in a day. Those were legit the steepest mogul runs in Canada. You must of excelled at skiing bumps.
Speaking as an American in western Pennsylvania, you all have some of the most beautiful terrain in the world. Western US is beautiful as well, and European Alps are legendary, western Canada has everything a skier could want. In particular, the Banff area is exceptional. Snow will always continue to fall. The real SECRET, especially for those who are passionate about resort skiing and despise crowds is to create a work/life where you can ski weekdays and work weekends. Even Whistler is line-up free most weekdays. I watched my home resort Manning Park, close for many seasons while I was growing up because they couldn't pay the bills and ownership would go bankrupt. It was a serious bummer. Recently, Chilliwack BC boomed, Manning is a lot busier these days, but at least the lifts can stay spinning for the locals. Also I always get a laugh when people comment about keeping public mountains secret. Isn't commenting about your zone just making people more intrigued about the mountain itself?
I have been snowboarding Banff and other nearby resorts since the early 90s. Crowd come and go. Older generations move on and the new ones come in. The only problem is that SUVs and Trucks have gotten bigger and ruined the parking situation. The only secret spots are in the Backcountry.

@riseandalpine To be honest, I was fooled by it, hahaha! But here is no April fools joke for everyone. There has been 6-7 feet of snow that has blanketed Colorado. The question is how fast can passports be issued on a rush, and how the hell are we paying to get there?
You've made a ton of awesome videos recently! I'm looking forward to exploring all these spots next season. You think you'll ever get out to Marmot Basin?
Hey James, just got the sauces! (12 noonish EDT) Good stuff, bro! I just did a shot of each. Good kick, and afterburn! This stuff will go great on tuna casserole and chicken spectacular casserole, chili, maybe even pb&j! 😉 Thanks for the kind note! Wide, long. Norquay looked like a blast for ripping!
BANFF seems like what a ski holiday needs to be coming from overseas relaxed town all you need kickinghorse is great but if you stay up on the mountain like we do as travelers the one mini convenient store makes a killing
You gotta just have a interview video. This is great lol. You guys gotta do like a comedy sketch. Like key and peels style but ski subject oriented. It would be so funny.
Good to see you enjoyed my home hill. I see you did Rhino at the bottom of wild west. Its important. You should see what that place is like on the BIG powder days! Before you head out again hit me up for directions for the perfect run on goats eye. I call it Hells super free fall. Its a flow that starts in hells kitchen over to super model and finishes at free fall. Epicto-mundo
Lake Louise is a godtear mountain. Banff has the best skiing in North America. Apparently you can’t own property there unless you live/work there. More places in Canada need to implement a that.
Hey, are you using the SwarfWorks or RoughCountry hidden winch mount? P.S. - I’ve always done 50/50 for my café mocha but I’l willing to do some experimentation. lol
@ Hey, thanks for the reply and thanks for the ski content. I didn’t recognize the kit because I didn’t see the port for the winch cable connector so I thought it might have been another kit I wasn’t aware of.
Next time take a drive up the parkway to have a crack at Marmot B. They have made substantial additions of more advanced terrain in the last few years and you already have made the park pass investment. Then maybe give us a look at Pow King on the way home it is a bit of a trek but you like pow and they I believe have it.
Here are some funds to subsidize Adventure Rob's numerous coffee purchases. If I drank that many I would spend half my slope time in the "lodge" peeing. 😀
So generous. Thank You :). Rob is a total camel... He drinks zero water and an unlimited flow of coffee and mocha. I'll make sure this goes to his coffee fund!
Back when I lived Banff I honestly split my time pretty evenly between all three. The ‘Quay pack a way harder wallop than most people expect. All the novice boarder kids I worked with would never touch it because they hated moguls. So please, stay away from the ‘Quay, the moguls are the size of Minis~ I’m gonna miss the cruise down from the base to Banff (well, nearly to Banff) too. I get why no one did it but it’s a shame it’s now out of bounds.

It all depends where you drop in. I you drop in from false face the steepness can be similar, but there are other areas in Delirium that are steeper. As with all ski runs, you can really choose your level of difficulty depending how you ride it
lol yeah don't we all want to move to Banff.... too bad its literally impossible now hahahah you can't buy property there unless you have family heritage, a registered business, etc. Foreign investment has made it difficult for even Canadians to buy a house in their own backyard. Pretty damn sad.

His body is 73% Mocha, 7% water, 10% Kokannee, 10% ski sauce
I'm glad you didn't skip Norquay, big chair is such a cool/unique experience. It's likely the only pulse double chair in the world and the view from the top is unreal
That chairlift & view was all time. Could have sat at the top of Norquay for the entire day. I bet powder days there also rip. Lot's of steep fall line and way quieter than the other resorts.
@@riseandalpine It's unreal, when hoards of shredders are heading to SV or LL on a weekend pow day just zip up to Norquay and get your lines.... all day..amazing
On the right day, Norquay is a monster hill! Days of great pow or great cords randomly over the season
Absolutely. I could only imagine how wicked it is on a big pow day
Love this guys content
Has anyone checked out those new Tesla ski's? Getting a pair of those could save you from buying lift tickets! Absolute game changer! You can ski anywhere!
Those are hilarious! You know it's an april fools joke right?
@riseandalpine To be honest, I was fooled by it, hahaha! But here is no April fools joke for everyone. There has been 6-7 feet of snow that has blanketed Colorado. The question is how fast can passports be issued on a rush, and how the hell are we paying to get there?
You've made a ton of awesome videos recently! I'm looking forward to exploring all these spots next season. You think you'll ever get out to Marmot Basin?
Not this season, but I'd love to get to Marmot Basin next season. I've burnt through my gas and travel fund pretty solid LOL
Rob you know what's up with the coffee hot chocolate.😅😅
Was that mixture you don't even need milk or sugar 😮
Hey James, just got the sauces! (12 noonish EDT) Good stuff, bro! I just did a shot of each. Good kick, and afterburn! This stuff will go great on tuna casserole and chicken spectacular casserole, chili, maybe even pb&j! 😉
Thanks for the kind note! I’ll admit my YT name could be the stuff of legends (😉 lol), but I’m actually just an average schlub who enjoys seeing folks with your joie de vivre getting out and seizing life by the balls. You’re a good dude as well as being an expert skier.
Yeah, I can see why Banff would be an appealing place to live. Like you said, I noticed that those mountains have a European look to them. Wide, long.
Norquay looked like a blast for ripping!
So glad you like the sauces! Please update me if you test it on PB&J... we all need to know how that tastes
Ideal ratio of coffee, 60 coffee, 40 hot chocolate. But I agree best coffee is a mixture of both no matter what the ratio ❤
I never thought skiing two amazing resorts in one day was possible!!!
You could ski all 3. I think they call it the trifecta. You wouldn't get enough turns for my liking but it would be funny
You should do the three north shore resorts in one day. That would be a fun vid
BANFF seems like what a ski holiday needs to be
coming from overseas
relaxed town all you need
kickinghorse is great but if you stay up on the mountain like we do as travelers
the one mini convenient store makes a killing
KHMR, is strictly for the skiing. You definitely get the whole package if you visit the Big3
OH MY FREAKING GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I NEED to go there!
You totally should check it out!
You gotta just have a interview video. This is great lol. You guys gotta do like a comedy sketch. Like key and peels style but ski subject oriented. It would be so funny.
That would be awesome! Glad you're digging the interview interludes
This video got me pumped for this season, cuz I'm going to BANFF
Unreal! Banff is the best place on earth. ENJOY!
Dope stuff! Hopefully you can get to Europe someday!
I would love to check out European resorts one day!
Literally dead at 5:40 😭
Board ballet eh! Never seen anything so beautiful
You should head over to kicking horse no people the snow is so good and the terrain is insane
We stopped at Kicking Horse and I ski it every season, One of my favourite mountains at all time!
The line at 12:10 was so rad!
So fun!
I have skied that double for a full day when it was puking down snow probably the best day I have ever had.. (Norqway)
What I would give for a Norquay powder day
Next time also tour Hwy93N. Stellar
Oh good call! We had tough avi conditions when travelling so did no touring but I'm sure touring in the rockies is crazy sick
Sick vid. What's the song that starts at 5:32? "Hold on to the hand of self destruction..."
Big3 win! 🤙
Yeeehaw!
That sounds insane! Would love for you to show me!
Lake Louise is a godtear mountain. Banff has the best skiing in North America. Apparently you can’t own property there unless you live/work there. More places in Canada need to implement a that.
Super important to make sure the people who live, work and keep these amazing places running have places to call home
12:37 is your head not attached to your shoulders? :D
The ski exorcist
Coffee & Hot Coffee but my blend is like 90/10 in favor of coffee
I can get on board with that
Hey, are you using the SwarfWorks or RoughCountry hidden winch mount?
P.S. - I’ve always done 50/50 for my café mocha but I’l willing to do some experimentation. lol
The Rough Country! Easy install in the F150
I'd love to try both mountains. Couldn't squeeze it into this season (my truck might explode) but It's on the hit list at some point
It's expensive..but I agree amazing.
Still 5x cheaper than whistler!
@@riseandalpine So true!!
Sounds good, but I go 50-50
Paused right at 4:00 👌
Blown away by the views at Norquay!
was at shine today and saw a heli take someone off the mountain :o
Yup, that looked like STARS this afternoon. I was skiing Goat’s Eye.
This was a few weeks ago, right before the march warming
Back when I lived Banff I honestly split my time pretty evenly between all three. The ‘Quay pack a way harder wallop than most people expect. All the novice boarder kids I worked with would never touch it because they hated moguls. So please, stay away from the ‘Quay, the moguls are the size of Minis~
I’m gonna miss the cruise down from the base to Banff (well, nearly to Banff) too. I get why no one did it but it’s a shame it’s now out of bounds.
How good is a Quay pow day?
First round pick in the 2025 Banff Lake Louise Sunshine ski draft 🏆 Make the move man! Nice work!
:) We'll see what happens
Except moving into Banff is extremely difficult due to the park restrictions.
Very True!
I mean this in the most incredible way possible: its just different up in the CDRs is it not?!
The rockies are unbelievable
@@riseandalpine call me crazy because Kill the banker was completely melted when I went two weeks ago and such..
But there is a definite difference though that Lake Louise and I'm sure Banff Sunshine have over everything else.
But with that said I do not want to huck off cliffs and stuff off T1 at kicking horse without someone of equal ability being there with me. All I can tell you and others is that I've been told Kicking Horse 🐴 is what Revel is supposed to be. But I have not been though to KH! Looks crazy when you drive past it through Golden!
Jeez rob maybe lay off the coffee eh. I can see why you have so much energy.
Half Man, Half Mocha
What gear is required for Delirium Dive and Wild West? My friend and I have always wanted to explore those areas
Beacon, Probe, Shovel and avi training
Too good - really enjoyed this series through Banff, thanks dude. Out of curiosity what planks are your mates running on - Rob looked like he was running on slightly shorter skis, so I was just curious.
I ski on 191cm Nordica Unleashed 114 underfoot as my daily pow driver. For the norquay portion of the video I rode the 99 Enforcer, so I could carve a little better
Hey, quick question: What are your opinions on marmot basin at Jasper? Is it a good resort?
I've never been to MB - maybe someone else in the comments can give you a review!
Adventure Rob is way off. 75% hot chocolate, 25% coffee.
Rookie mistake 🙄
Not enough caffeine!
@@riseandalpine bruh the last thing you want is caffeine sweats while sitting on a chairlift in the middle of the Rockies.
C'mon.
@@the6ig6adwolf If I drink to much coffee caffeine sweats are the least of my concern on a chairlift 🤣
@@riseandalpine 🤣
Yeah I makeshift mocha all the time when you can't order a mocha specifically. About a quarter hot chocolate sounds about right...
Glad Rob has his measurement dialed
ive always wondered what is harder and also better derlium dive or wild west?
I think they are both awesome and it depends on how you ski it. Some of the chutes with mandatory airs in wild west seem pretty henious to me.
what do you like better Lake Louise or Sunshine?
I loved them both. Might need to inquire with the Albertans on this one.
Is Saudan harder or easier than Delirium Dive?
It all depends where you drop in. I you drop in from false face the steepness can be similar, but there are other areas in Delirium that are steeper. As with all ski runs, you can really choose your level of difficulty depending how you ride it
Watch out for those knees , you'll miss them when thre gone.
Good tip! I don't to too much jumping/crazy stuff because I want to be skiing when I'm 80!
Is this Japan? If yes, then yes.
I need to go to Japan
Are you gonna go one time in Jackson Hole
Hoping to get there for next season!
It isnt in feb unless you like -35c
A few extra layers LOL
Doeeeit!
Just gotta convince the girlfriend
40% hot choc
40% coffee
20% baileys
1 x 0.5g sativa spliff
breakfast of champions
The kind of breakfast that makes any day feel like a powder dayt
tea>coffee. also, i only do decaf. i smoke a lot of weed tho. oh canada eh?
Gotta love everything about Canada... and it's bud ;)
omg...that first looks like a place for me and my bonafides
Right on! Norquay would be a sweet on the bonafides!
Bro was about 10 years old and I was 15 back in 1975.😅😇
I wasn't even born until at least 20 or so years after 75
Sorry the ideal is 50% hot chocolate and 50% coffee.
:) Not enough caffeine for me :)m
wake n bake n risenalpine
Colt 45, and two sips of ski sauce, baby that's all we need
lol yeah don't we all want to move to Banff.... too bad its literally impossible now hahahah you can't buy property there unless you have family heritage, a registered business, etc. Foreign investment has made it difficult for even Canadians to buy a house in their own backyard. Pretty damn sad.
That's not why... It's a national park, they don't allow expansion of residential (or for the most part really anything) construction.
@@tarfeef101 Don't speak on something you evidently do not know much about, they literally put in a 2-year ban to slow down foreign ownership/investment.
It's called a Mocha boys lol
Ya learn something new every day hahaha
