This is just fucking unbelievable. This music brings me to an entirely new emotional level, makes me almost implode! My stomach does really weird things when I'm listening to this! It's stunning how people can make SUCH music with just a few notes...
Every single night in order to fall asleep I have to listen to godspeed. I'm sure If i didn't have there music I would be in some sort of insomniac state by now.
I originally typed in New Orleans to find videos of mardi grass stuff and found a video of the abondoned Six Flags in Louisiana with the East Hasting song. I liked the song alot so i went looking through all the comments to find if someone has posted the name and title of the album. Found it. Now im here :)
I can't tell you how true and frustrating this is for me as a musician. Even though I love that sort of music, I tend to avoid jamming with those who say they are influenced by it because I've found that most of them tend to imitate such acts without even understanding the deeper impulses behind them. Paradoxically, if they DID understand, they wouldn't waste their time copying those bands: They'd come up with their own thing. That's part of what bands like GYBE accomplished in the first place.
It does make for a difficult paradox. After I saw them live I basically decided to give up any endeavours toward music or art. They had perfectly and completely encapsulated every primordial concept of perfect music and artistry that was within my mind. I had never known exactly my vision, but feeling in the dark for so long had given me the texture and shape, if not the whole. Seeing them was illuminating the dark and showing exactly what it is I'd ever been looking for. How can you go on knowing that your idea of perfect exists? It would be frivolous to copy, and nothing else I could create could come close to what they had done on that stage.
I accidentally played this song while watching Furiosa, and I tougth man "I dont know why people didnt liked this movie, thisis quite epic", the song fit perfectly with a scene in the movie and then I realize I had this music running in the background lol
what a brilliant track.what a contrast of feelings.the first part is melancholic with some wildness while the second is pure hardcore/dark/anger.i especially love the background music, this organ that sounds from 1:20 to 2:23 also in some parts of the second like in 4:35 and a bit onwards.
i listened to this last night, and when those drums hit, it felt like something had literally hit me in the head with a brick. I felt almost traumatized. It was then that I realized that GY!BE is possibly one of the best bands, in ever. Just amazing
@lepainiac I think you mean an unreleased song called Steve Reich. It has the part with the preacher (Chart #3), but instead of leading into World Police it leads into a completely different track. I have since learned that GYBE did indeed used to perform an extended version of World Police up until 2000. For anyone who's interested, go to Internet Archive, search Godspeed You Black Emperor and download the gig at Sojus 7 from 1998. This gig also has an extended version of The Dead Flag Blues.
Damnit i just realized I have to stop this track about 4.5 min in, as, listening on my phone, the crescendo cannot possibly get loud enough. Switching to listening on my TV, but ill have to start from the beginning again.
Quieres sentirte en paz?... Escucha esta obra maestra e imaginate un huracan desde su origen hasta su final... Que es lo que nos deja?? Que queda como resultado?? Nada mas que una eternidad de silencio y sosiego... Simplemente polvo, ceniza y nada...
I heard somewhere that Godspeed used to play an extended version of this song at some of their old live shows from the late 90's. Can anyone confirm this?
@MrAtomicParanoia lol what are you talking about? they're right now on tour in America... btw saw them in January in Prague, best concert I've ever seen, will never forget on that atmosphere there
@sergeantDickhead i've found a lot of new-wave post-rock seems to focus far too much on the crescendo that you see gs!be and mono use much more effectively ie. explosions in the sky, overhead, the albatross. it's also feels a lot more clean-cut and is more heavily orientated around the piano. aka it's shit.
@Iwonderwotsfordinner GY!BE were one of the main composers of the 28 days later soundtrack - east hastings, etc.- , along with John Murphy, as far as I know. So I wouldn't be surpirsed :)
@wombatwolf see, this music is undoubtfully very good, though also extremely listener-specific in a sense that it recquires a certain mindset to be able to enjoy it - one, which average people normally do not posses. That's the reason why mainstream is for the masses and gems like this for a selected audience.
the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Military.... My focus is on the United States
@DiosInjusto Theyre not meant to be like that... you can find the timings around if you look hard enuff... they were on the sleeve If I can remember, but I went and separated them according to the timings on the sleeve, and it doesnt work out exactly, you have to adjust the cuts slighty.
Where can I find a download for this album and F#A#Infinity with each movement cut into separate tracks? For example, "Sleep", broken down into the separate songs "Murray Ostril", "Monheim", and "Broken Windows".
Haha, I show all my friends GY!BE, they hate it... Yet they're my favorite band. Maybe it's because my dad listened to The Cure when I was young that I grew up to like this kind of music... I don't know. No one does it like GY!BE, I hope they come through Denver on their reunion tour... Sadly, that's a long shot. haha.
smoke alot of weed until you are in the coma state were you just can't move and you just sit or lie there blazed like, proper devvo'd and just play this sit in the dark, just shut your eyes have a smoke and trip the fuck out.
WILL YOU ALL THUMB UP ANOTHER TWO COMMENTS? I don't even remember making that one, and I want to slap myself, but jeez, I'm still taking heat for it and just..man, get it out of the top comments. I don't even remember it. Someone else has had to have said something else interesting..
Delete it or perhaps you have. Anyways I can read you and you like saying what you say and said. This is not to offend you. Anyways shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
@sophy95926 You do realise you're quoting a 10 months old comment? Anyway, i think that kind of comments are boring and useless. Who cares about [insert popstar here]?
This is just fucking unbelievable. This music brings me to an entirely new emotional level, makes me almost implode! My stomach does really weird things when I'm listening to this! It's stunning how people can make SUCH music with just a few notes...
I love bands that just let the music do the talking.
The soundtrack to the apocalypse & i couldn’t love it anymore
"Lift You Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven" is probably the highest point music ever went to. My favourite music album.
All emotions linked in one song. Love, hate, fear, pain, cheerfulness....
Just genious.
Every single night in order to fall asleep I have to listen to godspeed. I'm sure If i didn't have there music I would be in some sort of insomniac state by now.
Still listening?

Holy shit that is EXACTLY how I discovered GY!BE as well
this is music for people who know they have a soul

don’t give up, for true expression comes from deep within & what’s deep within you can resonate with others but truly is your own

The song is like a developing hurricane, or a growing wildfire. Leading up to a climactic buildup at 7:00, what a crescendo!
Haunting. This isn't music, this is a journey.

saw them last night in Detroit.
Phenomenal.

Vaguely reminded of "28 days later" 4:36 on. Excellent stuff. :)
God tier music.
i laughed so long and hard at the goatsie comment, thank you. I love GYBE
I read Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian listening to this song. It perfectly fits a violently western theme.
omfg what is this?? I love it
This is just too fucking good!!

Amazing. Amazing.
@Zmister517 Amazing choice of book, I can imagine how well it'd work.

my mantra during riots
not to be too negative, but im pretty angry with the world right now for not alerting me to this stuff sooner...
you were angry with the world 9 years ago! how about now in 2021 ?
@Nelarsen Well said...I agree 100%.
it's a mix between LoZ majoras mask: Stone Tower Temple and the Goron Lullaby

Good tune, hope they get the acclaim they deserve :)
correction: it is actually the fourth movement of static
song is on D Sharp :P
Brilliant on an unspeakable level. This is the stuff people should be lauding and praising, not f****** Jonas Brothers and Beyonce.

thx for the tip ; )
@wombatwolf Oh, great. Even GY!BE videos can't be free from the typical "mainstream reminder" YT comment..
mono make me cry
god, this song is so fucking creepy. I must use it for a small stop motion, that Is If no one gets offended over action figure abuse.
Çok iyi be
Arkadaşlarıma gösterince sıkıcı diyolar ve çoğu türkçe pop şarkıları dinliyor. Buarada bu parça beni suikastçi gibi hissettiriyor :D

I hate to put you on the spot, but could you summarize what post rock stood for?
Because if not.. Ye be talkin' out ye arse!
I don’t understand how people like sleep and storm more than static
I like Sleep more, but Static is a strong second favourite track from the album
