I just sww them live in Boston last night and they also closed w this whole EP + a drone w the amps at the end. You're right, an absolute must-see live, words really can't describe how amazing it is
Same here. Just watched them a couple days back in İstanbul. I think they played an intro and two songs from the recent albums and then they played this album. When I recognized that they were playing Moya I was about to cry out of happiness lol.
if anybody is wondering about the cover: The front of the album contains Hebrew characters, in transliterated form, "Tohu va bohu" (formless and empty). This phrase is used in both Genesis 1:2 and Jeremiah 4:23, the former to describe the Earth before God separated light from dark and the latter to describe the Earth after the Lord's Day. The dots and dashes above the letters are called trope. They dictate the tune and intonation and are found in the Torah as well as the rest of the Hebrew Bible. On the inside cover, this text is put into greater context, with Jer 4:23-27 provided in both Hebrew and English (seemingly the Jewish Publication Society version): 23 I beheld the earth, And, lo, it was waste and void; And the heavens, and they had no light. 24 I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, And all the hills moved to and fro. 25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, And all the birds of the heavens were fled. 26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful field was a wilderness, And all the cities thereof were broken down At the presence of the LORD, And before His fierce anger. 27 For thus saith the LORD: The whole land shall be desolate; Yet will I not make a full end.
I honestly wouldn't care who agrees with my shirt, unless I myself didn't agree with it.. Good choice to find out what it means before you wore it. I'm half Arab by the way, I don't think you should be so careful not to offend anyone unless it's a misrepresentation of yourself, respecting others shouldn't involve dishonoring yourself. You are what you believe, and you should hold your beliefs up high, no matter what the cost.
The album art essentially reads: [Became / Becoming] Formless and Empty. It is written in Hebrew, and appears twice in the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) The first appearance is in Genesis, and describes the way the world was before god said "Let there be light." The second appearance is in Jeremiah, and is used to describe the end of the world.
"You think you're God just because you have a robe and can send people up the goddamn river for 20 years, well you're wrong!" If you're ever been in the room with a judge before, I don't understand how you can't sympathize.
I remember when this first came out. Late 1990s. We all knew something bad was coming. We didn't know what it was, but we could all feel it...and this record seemed to capture all that and preserve it. So prescient, what a masterpiece.

This type of music can only be made by people that live life fully. What I mean by this is that there is a very pure 'humanity' to all the work this group has ever released, from the VERY beginning. They don't shy away from the horrors of life, in fact they understand that the bad side of life is as crucial (perhaps, even more crucial) than the good side of life. You can only understand how truly great life can be when you compare it to how awful and hellish it can really get. I can't fully explain how, but this band's music transmits this to me in a way that words couldn't - only feelings. They perfectly capture life's brutal beauty, or its beautiful brutality - you can see it either way, it's the same in the end. Because of this, this is one of the bands I consider to be 'greater' than its musical output, it's not just music they create - it's almost a philosophy, an ideology, a lens through which life can be viewed. Brutal, overwhelming, of course - but, always, with a lining of hope threading through.
Their music is life. The guitars cry in agony, trembling in fear and paranoia, whistling and singing in melancholy. The sound, the sound haunts you - as it makes you remember what was associated with this sadness, induced by strings. You live through what music goes, slowly descending deeper in thoughts and tears. But, usually, at some point this agony reaches it culmination point, and all suddenly start to remind you why. Why you're still here and why you still continue to exist. In order to awaken spirit you need to succumb into deepest abyss.
A critic said to me after I professed a love for Hermann Hesse that his writings are so dark and I said I never looked at it that way he always seemed to be leading me towards the light. I rate this band as Hesses' musical and mystical equivalent
I can't remember who it was but there's definitely a band who made a 1 hour long EP. I think it was only labelled an EP because it was half songs they had made but didn't care about and half demos and lives but even then that's kinda weird

A debt of eternal gratitude to the dude working at the heavy metal record store in Fullerton 22 years ago who was listening to this album when I came in to get something else entirely and my life was never the same. I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and it was darkness. I saw the sun fall into the ocean like blood. I saw the stars sliding across a void. I saw a train smoking down the tracks. I saw angels of glory destitute and crosses on fire and yeah it's a goddamn third-world country in the sense of being totally scorched and wrung dry by capitalism yet without the concessions to public well-being that socialists or communists would demand.
There's a little saying, dates back from generations ago: "Be prepared for anything at anytime from anybody and don't take no shit always stand your ground." Pretty sure that's not a saying from generations ago
Actually it's an old Shakespearen phrase: "Beest did prepare f'r aught at anytime from anybody and taketh not nay the horror at each moment standeth thy did grind."
Don't ever, for any reason, do anything, to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been, ever, for any reason whatsoever.
i am still obsessed 12 years later. Go and see them live...and make sure you're leaning against the stage to be as close as possible. I'll be remembering that moment until i die !!
" Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.... I have been trying to make my own music, and my dream is that one day my music can be in my own way as great as the music of this band. I just adore them.
@@mignonetteneko3382 It's not the people who find the band, its the band who finds people. It's not just japanese, a lot, a lot of people outside never heard of it. Doesn't make it less beautiful, doesn't make it worse. It's all what it is.
It's like if Beethoven lived life on the streets homeless, came back and got on his feet, and then recorded all of his experiences of sadness, hopelessness, despair, and the eventual return to a ''happy place'' right after.
I like this. I have it tattooed on my arm. the music sounds like the end of the world too. It did when i first heard it 12 years ago and nothing has surpassed it since..or ever will

Interviewer: Well... Where are you posting from? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: (pause) Well... I don't like the way 4chan's ran, don't you know, and, erm... that's pretty much what i was expressing in my thread. The admin... the Japanese admin - he's sneaky, he's very deceitful, he's a liar, he's a cheat, he's a rip-off. I mean, the Japanese admin is one systematic admin that...that nobody can trust. I don't trust him myself Interviewer: And how long have you been shitposting for? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Huh? Interviewer: How long have you been shitposting for? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Since I was four Interviewer: Do you do this sort of thing a lot, like, meme-tier kinda threads? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Oh, I love meme-tier threads, I love starting meme-tier threads, absolutely Interviewer: What kind of replies do you usually get? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Usually, anons are... are pretty much in agreement with what I'm shitposting about Interviewer: We overheard you before talking about... you went on 4chan today for your waifus? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: That's accurate Interviewer: right. Do you wanna tell us that story? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Yes, absolutely, I wouldn't mind telling you the story. Erm... I went on 4chan today for my waifus, and I told the OP, erm... "Let me post something, and you save and you save it for good, I'm only gonna post this one time and one time only, I don't repeat myself for nobody," I said. I says... "I'm here to post Annie Clark's meme hair, not to listen to your music and watch you post your opinions for an hour." I says "I'm here to post my waifu...and I'm here to get new Lavren pics and get the fuck back to Reddit." The OP says "You can't talk like that in my thread, I'm reporting you, fag." then I said... I told the OP, "If that's the best you can do, I feel sorry for you." I said "Why don't you just shut your fucking mouth for once and listen." I said "I'm not gonna take any shit." I said "I'm gonna post my waifu like I said." I replied to the god damn OP and I post my pic of Annie and I says "Here's my pic, now I am leaving." And I left it at that (At this point the interview fades whilst the shitpost grows in intensity) Then, before I left, I came back and told the OP "I'm here to state who my waifus are and be honest with you." I said ">implying that if they thought I was a shitposting maniac like you're trying to accuse me of, they would have banned me when I first got here." And the OP says "Yeah, you have a point," He goes "You don't need to use green text," I said "Don't need to use greentext?" I says "I've got every right to use greentext." I says "You can't do a god damn thing about it, because I'm expressing myself in your thread, and there is nothing you can do about it. You think you're god because you have a laptop and you can bump your thread for 20 minutes? Well you're not." And I left it at that Interviewer: Did you walk away? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Yes I did... I don't like the banning system, I don't like the admin system, I don't like the janitors, I don't like anything to do with this site's administration. I just don't like it, because... Hiro's sneaky, like I said - he's deceitful, he's lying, he's a cheat, he rips people off. That's the Japanese admin for you. 4chan is shit-tier memeing, and anons don't recognise it... and I think that that's pretty god damn sad, that they don't recognise their own site as a shit-tier, pleb-tier, meme-tier cloak Interviewer: Well... I own a high-powered assault pepe, I own a 12-gauge double barrel pepe, I own a regular pepe, I own a regular hunting pepe, I own a 9fag, a 357, a 45 memegun, a 38 special needs, and, erm... I own an m-16 fully automatic ground assault pepe... Interviewer: Do you think things are gonna get better before they get worse? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: No way. Things are just gonna get worse and keep on getting worse. Like I said, 4chan's a shit-tier site as it is and... and we're just basically in a hopeless situation as it stands Interviewer: What do you think this site's gonna look like in the year 2019? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Y'know, I'll tell you the truth - nothing against you anons, but I don't wanna answer that question because... I haven't even got a mind that's that...that inhumane Interviewer: are you reddit for what's coming? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Reddit as I'll ever be Interviewer: Most anons aren't Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: There's a little saying... Dates back for generations... Interviewer: Go on... Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Be prepared for shitposting at any time on any thread, don't take no shit, always start your threads. People wanna come up to me and run their mouth - guess what? I'll shitpost through every fucking board... I won't think a thing of it Interviewer: Would you mind reciting your thread for us? Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Not at all, I don't see why... I don't see why I couldn't There's an evil virus that's threatening mankind It's not state of the art, it's a serious state of the mind The muggers, the backstabbers, the two faced elite A menace to society, a social disease To brainwash the mind is a social disorder The cynics, the apathy one-upmanship order Watching beginnings of social decay Gloating and sneering at life's disarray Eating away at your own self esteem Pouncing on every word that you might be saying To attack someone's mind is a social disorder The constitution, the government, martial law order Superficially smiling a shake of the hand As soon as your back is turned treason is planned When every good thing's laid to rest By the governments hate, by the constitution and their lies And every time you think you're safe And when you go to turn away You know they're sharpening all their knives All in your mind All in your head Try to relate it All in your mind All in your head Try to escape it Without a conscience they destroy And that's a thing that they enjoy They're a sickness that's in all of our minds They want to sink the ship and leave The way they laugh at you and me You know it happens all the time But it only happens in your mind The rats in the cellar you know who you are... If I could give you 100 likes I would.
+eyeseethroughyou It sounds like the music itself was writing a letter to its listener like "when you're reading this, I'll be gone."
I love how it's like starting to rush up and rise against in 8:30 it's like glorious moment of a fight against something
You conjure images of christian iconography being subverted, but fail to grasp that Communism is anti-christian.
I love this EP! My favorite Godspeed government U.S.
There's a little saying, dates back from generations ago:
"Be prepared for anything at anytime from anybody and don't take no shit always stand your ground."
Pretty sure that's not a saying from generations ago
It reeks of wisdom...
Pretty sure that dude is completely full of shit but it fits
Actually it's an old Shakespearen phrase: "Beest did prepare f'r aught at anytime from anybody and taketh not nay the horror at each moment standeth thy did grind."
Don't ever, for any reason, do anything, to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been, ever, for any reason whatsoever.
It is now
every godspeed album and ep just has the same quality with a unique sound, its so hard to favor one over the other
They simply just amaze me of how all their music is aged fine wine, especially the debut album which I consider top 3 from them.
This is easily their best work
..I don’t trust people to, but somehow Moya holds my heart for me, for just a little while, and I can really breathe
I'm pretty sure that guy at 12:00 is the same one sampled on f#a#infinity.
sportsjunkie52 yepp, good ear
sportsjunkie52 Yeah. "This is the perfect place to get jumped"
Do u have any change?, no, I'm sorry we don't.
i am still obsessed 12 years later.
Here’s Tom with the weather. ''...Bill Hicks
funny thing is he did not need acid to know this
Man at last something insightful.
Seems you pried open your third eye.
Beyond magnificent!
The most amazing 30 minutes of music I have ever heard.
Prob the best EP ever made
RYM would agree
I absolutely love Blaise Bailey Finnegan III
Holy shit, the buildup is amazing, probably one of the best I ever heard.
hmmm i still get that warm fuzzy feeling all over my body when I hear moya
formless and empty.........I get it now.......awe inspiring....intense....YEEEAAAAA!!!!!!!
I have been trying to make my own music, and my dream is that one day my music can be in my own way as great as the music of this band. I just adore them.
blows me away everytime
moyaはめちゃくちゃ聞いたなぁ。。良い曲!
indeed, Japanese friend
@@rwquote 日本の映画のタイトルがバンド名なのに、日本人が全然聞いてないから、辛いわ
@@mignonetteneko3382 It's not the people who find the band, its the band who finds people. It's not just japanese, a lot, a lot of people outside never heard of it. Doesn't make it less beautiful, doesn't make it worse. It's all what it is.
Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. Ideal band for the music to film.
If No Country For Old Men had a soundtrack, I'd want it to be this album.
Greatest 30 minutes of music, arguably.

It's like if Beethoven lived life on the streets homeless, came back and got on his feet, and then recorded all of his experiences of sadness, hopelessness, despair, and the eventual return to a ''happy place'' right after.
Fuck Beethoven
:)
ruclips.net/video/pewBRolWwjQ/видео.html
GyroLamb wow great description
This sounds nothing like Beethoven.
I wasn't expecting a waltz, but GYBE does everything.
this reminds me of when reckful was in japan and bought a godspeed you t-shirt. good times
I miss that man every day
Their best release without a doubt. Would kill to see this performed live
Genialne,piękne ,dotykające. So very very drill of my brain,diamont,10/10,
I like this. I have it tattooed on my arm. the music sounds like the end of the world too. It did when i first heard it 12 years ago and nothing has surpassed it since..or ever will
"Chaos - the infinity of space or formless matter supposed to have preceded the creation of the universe." Pretty spot on definition in relation to your translation.
Moya might be my favorite song, it might be, its just so earnest and beautiful. I never thought id be able to pick a song to be my favorite, but it has an impact every time i listen to it
This group makes me evoke Bela Tarr' s films.
Happy Birthday, Slow Riot!!
Takeda - EDO#1
No probs. :)
i bought this when it came out in 1999, and it still absolutely destroys.
I don't trust him myself
Interviewer: And how long have you been shitposting for?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Huh?
Interviewer: How long have you been shitposting for?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Since I was four
Interviewer: Do you do this sort of thing a lot, like, meme-tier kinda threads?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Oh, I love meme-tier threads, I love starting meme-tier threads, absolutely
Interviewer: What kind of replies do you usually get?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Usually, anons are... are pretty much in agreement with what I'm shitposting about
Interviewer: We overheard you before talking about... you went on 4chan today for your waifus?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: That's accurate
Interviewer: right.
I told the OP, "If that's the best you can do, I feel sorry for you." I said "Why don't you just shut your fucking mouth for once and listen." I said "I'm not gonna take any shit." I said "I'm gonna post my waifu like I said." I replied to the god damn OP and I post my pic of Annie and I says "Here's my pic, now I am leaving."
And I left it at that
(At this point the interview fades whilst the shitpost grows in intensity)
Then, before I left, I came back and told the OP "I'm here to state who my waifus are and be honest with you." I said ">implying that if they thought I was a shitposting maniac like you're trying to accuse me of, they would have banned me when I first got here." And the OP says "Yeah, you have a point," He goes "You don't need to use green text," I said "Don't need to use greentext?" I says "I've got every right to use greentext." I says "You can't do a god damn thing about it, because I'm expressing myself in your thread, and there is nothing you can do about it. You think you're god because you have a laptop and you can bump your thread for 20 minutes? Well you're not."
And I left it at that
Interviewer: Did you walk away?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Yes I did... I don't like the banning system, I don't like the admin system, I don't like the janitors, I don't like anything to do with this site's administration. I just don't like it, because... Hiro's sneaky, like I said - he's deceitful, he's lying, he's a cheat, he rips people off. That's the Japanese admin for you. 4chan is shit-tier memeing, and anons don't recognise it... and I think that that's pretty god damn sad, that they don't recognise their own site as a shit-tier, pleb-tier, meme-tier cloak
Interviewer: Well... Do you have any rare pepe?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Yes, I do.
Like I said, 4chan's a shit-tier site as it is and... and we're just basically in a hopeless situation as it stands
Interviewer: What do you think this site's gonna look like in the year 2019?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Y'know, I'll tell you the truth - nothing against you anons, but I don't wanna answer that question because... I haven't even got a mind that's that...that inhumane
Interviewer: are you reddit for what's coming?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Reddit as I'll ever be
Interviewer: Most anons aren't
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: There's a little saying...
I won't think a thing of it
Interviewer: Would you mind reciting your thread for us?
Blaise Bailey Finnegan III: Not at all, I don't see why... I don't see why I couldn't
There's an evil virus that's threatening mankind
It's not state of the art, it's a serious state of the mind
The muggers, the backstabbers, the two faced elite
A menace to society, a social disease
To brainwash the mind is a social disorder
The cynics, the apathy one-upmanship order
Watching beginnings of social decay
Gloating and sneering at life's disarray
Eating away at your own self esteem
Pouncing on every word that you might be saying
To attack someone's mind is a social disorder
The constitution, the government, martial law order
Superficially smiling a shake of the hand
As soon as your back is turned treason is planned
When every good thing's laid to rest
By the governments hate, by the constitution and their lies
And every time you think you're safe
And when you go to turn away
You know they're sharpening all their knives
All in your mind
All in your head
Try to relate it
All in your mind
All in your head
Try to escape it
Without a conscience they destroy
And that's a thing that they enjoy
They're a sickness that's in all of our minds
They want to sink the ship and leave
The way they laugh at you and me
You know it happens all the time
But it only happens in your mind
The rats in the cellar you know who you are...
Or do you?
Watching beginnings of social decay...
Interviewer: Thank you for your memes
this was amazing.

On RateYourMusic, this is the number one EP of all time.
That's awesome man! I agree, this music is truly amazing. only master artists could capture such and essence.
I'm actually saving up a few bucks now to get this tattooed on the outside of my left rib cage! under my arm and heart level... To me, it also represents that there was something LONG before us, and there will be something LONG after us. All we can do is live in the moment and make the best out of life.
This EP makes me emotional..

It’s such a beautiful build up I absolutely adore it.

This has been my favorite record for over a decade. Nothing can touch it.
You just made me laugh a year later. Thank you.
In part II, titled BBF3, "his" poem he starts at 20:45, for the parts I can get, is actually made with parts of the lyrics of Iron Maiden's song Virus.
Just wow. Godspeed continues to impress like no other.
an anthem for our modern day, broken, corrupt society.

Cool...get a tattoo too. I have the cover of Lift Your Skinny Fists and the Hebrew writing above on my arm .Just in case i forget that was the best thing i ever saw live i just need to glance at my arm and be reminded :-)
This may be their best release

They played this whole EP when I seen them in London this week. Tore the roof off of my head.
I think this one is their best too.
It's their most consistent record, I'd say.
When shadows come to claim our souls
Some must rise the light of old
Names in stone
Spirits of legends
Deeds unknown, yet never forgotten
These are the duranin, of honour within and of fear without
Remember them
When in hope you doubt
Great music, serves as great inspiration for myself with the beauty of this EP
sounds great with some trance beat in the background
Can't put into words what this thing makes me feel
