Why am I just now hearing these guys? I’m 51 and feel like I’ve been living under a rock.
I’m 57 and i was a radio DJ at my college radio station. We received their first album “just for a day”. I was hooked the first time playing it on my show and very pleased they outlasted their peers like My Bloody Valentine, Ride and Curve. Ive seen them live 3 times over the years. Awesome shows.

The aesthetic and sound of Slowdive's sound was so ahead of its time. It's so influential now. Dream pop, Shoegaze and even vaporwave had a strong influence from Slowdive.
If you're a fan of all music please listen to "Here Come The Warm Jets" by Brian Eno. It's proto-shoegaze from 1974. There are so many elements he used to construct that song that's in shoegaze, including the impossible to distinguish lyrics. That was really ahead of it's time.

Slowdive were alright, but if you want a band that was truly ahead of their time, check out Cocteau Twins. They were the true originators of this sound.
Its not ahead of its time, its that this generation from today is copying it. Its a trend in culture and fashion for a decade to comeback in style in the next one decade or two.
The atmospheric sound this band creates is phenomenal. It's so great to have them back together, playing these beautiful songs and recording new ones. From the many reunion videos I've watched, they seem genuinely happy to be doing this again, and it's awesome to see them get the credit they deserved 25 years ago.
hope you got to see them live, its incredible. its a giant wall of sound hitting you. it will completely change your perspective on their music.
Frank C Unfortunately I haven't seen them live yet. I live near New Orleans, LA and none of the reunited shoegaze bands have come nearby; that being said, if Slowdive tours again for their new album (and I imagine they will), I'll be traveling somewhere to see them.

This sound perfectly resembles the feeling you get when you remember blurry memories of better days during your youth where time, stress or worries were never an issue and all that mattered was your friends and having fun. Days long gone.

During your youth you still have that youthful curiosity but also that youthful naivety. No worries about health or the future at all. The main goal was always to just have fun. No other priorities.

@@Frobbl That is all true of course, I suppose much comes down to your friendship group, I was moved around schools and it was really hard. The natural tendency with age is towards blandification but there is magic around if you look out for it. God that sounds cliched, but you can buck the trend. Just took the high speed train from Malaga to Madrid and whilst everyone was on their phones I was completely engrossed in the view the whole way and marvelling at the engineering miracle that enabled me to speed across the country at 300 k/h. And guess what, this comment is well timed because who is playing in Madrid today? ;)

I, too, am convinced that this is what heaven sounds like. The guitar layers, and melodies and harmonies of the vocals, the chording, etc. All too perfect. I listened to this song on lucy once while taking a walk around a neighborhood near a friend's house on a crisp winter day. It was bliss. Sober or not, this is one of the songs that makes me glad I'm alive in a time to have been able to hear it. :)

Im annoyed with myself that I never paid them more attention at the time. I loved Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Ride and Lush, but wasn't into My Bloody Valentine's sounds so much. I'm thinking that I might've assumed they were the same and shunned them. Was also into Cranes and then Curve, but Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Jane's Addiction and Chili Peppers came along in my life around 1991
Can we just talk about how breathtakingly amazing this band is? Damn I love them. Their songs are so beautiful. This video looks just like how their songs sound. Psychedelic and ethereal. One of the greatest bands to ever make music.

Oh bloody hell! How did I miss out on Slowdive for the past 27 years?!
There's a really cool tone the bass and drums create right when the word "see" is sung in the first line, "Just to See, You in Me". The tone rolls in such a way that it pulls me in. I can't describe it any other way. I don't know why I obsess over that one particular second of the song but it hits me every time.

I first got in to Slowdive's in the mid-90s as shoegaze was on it's way out.. Due to personal stuff going on during the past couple years I somehow missed there reunion. I even saw Neil play an amazing acoustic solo show about 15 years ago here in the US in-between the Mojave 3 stuff. I cannot believe I have never seen this video until now after all these years. It has absolutely blown me away to see the all of the band in what must have been such a great time for them all. Rachel is absolutely gorgeous and what an incredible time for all of them to be so young and swirling around together in a field full of flowers. I'm in love again.. Shine on Slowdive!

In the early '90s I was listening to bands like My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Cranes - how come I never heard of Slowdive? I first came across them here on YT with their performances at the Pitchfork Festival. This is the first track of Slowdive that I've heard from the 1990s. Brilliant track.
+gavmusic Same here. I'm more of a Cranes & Curve fan, and I regret missing out on Slowdive, mainly due to me stuck in Malaysia.
And you listened to Cranes too? Holy shit, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I had like almost all of Cranes albums from Wings of Joy til Future Songs. Alison Shaw has a unique voice, further complimented by Mark Francombe's badass guitar riffs and the bands' drumming. There's nothing like them.

I think the reason so many people miss their 'youths' is because it was a time where being 'single' and 'creative' was the 'norm' and so you had access to so many other 'single' people. And relationships aren't that complicated at that age. In some ways they were 'perfect' then. The crazy thing is people 18-20 are far less complicated than even people 21-23 years old. When I was 19-20 I had probably had 5 of the greatest friends in that moment one could ever wish for. But then 21-23 happened and people's hearts were broken, selfish habits began to form and so on and so forth, people found new 'cliques' to belong to with better 'leaders' so it seemed.

I'm 50, single and creative....still find joy in my life....music is a big part of it and always has been. I guess my heart has been broken but you just have to keep on being brave and trusting your intuition. If anything my life was emotionally messy when younger, more black and white....I see the big picture now, with all its idiosyncrasies. Oh and I love words, rain and animals.

human nature is lack of complexities. the world makes people think that shit should be way more complex and this and that than it really is. even though it really isnt at all. thats something a lot of people tend to accidentally let themselves get sucked into, because its how most people are. if youre exposed to that behaviour for extended amounts of time youre extremely likely to become just like them. the error is when people think they dont have enough friends, or want to unknowingly reach out to acquaintances. theres reasons why your friends are your friends and acquaintances are acquaintances. maybe its just me but thats how i see it. people are too rigidly serious and convoluted and shit i just want to lay down and think about shit and make stuff and be with my friends :-)

A while ago I did 2 tabs of LSD, and in the midst of my ego death I decided to put on my headphones and listened to Slowdive. I was swimming across the galaxy for what felt like years, riding the cosmic-like guitars as if they were waves before I crashed onto the shore of my mind and the LSD began to wear off.
