Funny how toxic parents don't let their kids express anger but the parents themselves can get angry and have temper tantrums

Just found you. After many many years of therapy, I am pretty stuck. But recently I have become aware of all the anger I have. So much. And so much of it is from a feeling of helplessness. Looking forward to exploring more of your content. You are an excelent presenter.

Thank you for this video, it was divinely timed for me, I don't feel much anger precisely it's more like resentment with irritation and rumination (make me to keep thinking about my little revenge next time)
Could you make a video on this mix? I think that more people experience this in everyday life, that explosive anger, but it is just as drainy and disturbing or even more.
Thanks again I love ♥️ your videos 💐

"If you can't overcome your weaknesses, you turn each one of them into your strength." - Me :P
Imagine a sword with an edge so powerful that it can split the sky open. That's when you're calm and collected...
And in the case of anger, it's that but double-edged. More strengths, but just as many weaknesses.
And to counter such weaknesses by turning them into strengths, you need a failsafe for such weaknesses to the point where such weaknesses are *midigated* if not completely *negated!*
So yeah... a metaphoric gist of turning weaknesses into strengths.

Interesting thought... so the anger is a protective device to hide the shame?

Anger doesn't feel good, though. And I keep hoping to find videos that explain how to calm it down when I'm currently being treated unfairly, but I keep being told to sit with it. I feel like it's poisoning me in the mean time.

Thank you so much for this video, I am grateful to have found you. I have been experiencing a lot of stress for a long time, at home and at work, this triggered a lot of memories about my childhood and I find that I am sometimes reacting not just about what is going on in the moment because of things that happened in the past. I have become almost allergic to interactions with my mother because it feels like she is does not act like a caring parent but constantly talks about what I lack in or do wrong. What hurts the most is the way she treats my cat and how she has even threatened to put out poison implying that maybe he could get to it. There are countless events that I can name but this is something that is always in the back of my mind.
I have been going for therapy for years and have worked through many life changing experiences, abusive relationships and have grown as a person. I had almost no self-confidence, struggled to sleep, study, relax and enjoy people but I am living a different life now with the exception of my relationship with my mother. I still care about her, want good things for her but I so want her to finally accept and love me for me. I would like her to go for therapy as well because if only one person goes for therapy, this person grows and the other stays in the same place and the issues that was end up still being issues years later. This is probably over sharing but what I want to get to is that there is hope, that we do not have to be stuck..
I have had moments where I was so angry that I have gotten into my car and started driving around in the dark unsure of where to go, just to get away from being triggered, at such times I have realised how important it is to be able to distance yourself in a toxic relationship with someone you can not just cut out of your life.
I was diagnosed with Depression, then Major Depressive Disorder and recently my psychiatrist has decided to go to Bi-polar Mood Disorder.
I have finally reached a point where I am able to distance myself emotionally most of the time when it comes to persons and situations that can trigger me, I have started spending more time in nature, go to sleep earlier, write in a journal and speak with my psychologist more regularly although we are not based in the same town.

Not an over share at all. We are experiencing similar situations- the mother, the long term counseling, endlessly searching for a normal. I’m the dutiful daughter that was pushed too far & my years of repressed anger suddenly came forth, yelling at my mother. She is 82. Now it’s elder abuse? I left immediately & only communicate via email. Thanks for your post

Thanks for the video! As someone who discusses anger management techniques often, I appreciate the nuanced approach taken in this video. The concept of anger as a protective emotion is a valuable one, and the emphasis on understanding the underlying messages of anger aligns with my own views on emotional intelligence. The strategies suggested, such as diaphragmatic breathing and reframing our relationship with anger, are practical and can be integrated into the broader spectrum of anger management tools. It's important to recognize the complexity of anger and to approach it with a multifaceted strategy that includes both immediate calming techniques and deeper introspective work.

Brilliant video, excellent advice points. This is very helpful. They should play this on billboards and TVs occasionally on TV, in airports and motorway rest areas. Workplaces and schools too. Metacognition about our anger could save lives. Thank you for a brilliant presentation.
