      I want a Lexus 4.3 for my Taco forget the 4.0 I have 175,000 miles on my 15 so I can’t fault the reliability but I love my sons 2006 LS 430 it’s awesome. Running my truck loaded through the mountains of CO mileage goes to like 13-14 and sometimes can barely maintain 55? I have 33” tires, lift, and about 500lbs of steel plate trail armor, so a v8🤟😁

    • @PhilRacicot
      @PhilRacicot 6 месяцев назад

      @@Flyanb
      That could be an option I guess! My '93 isn't lifted, stock 31" tires and it has the 3.slow. Don't expect it to go fast uphill with that! These engines have no torque below 3000 RPM and downshifting to 4th gear won't be enough if you're carrying anything moderately heavy!
      I'm wondering why Toyota never used these 4.3 V8 engines in their SUV/truck lineup. Was it cost or complexity or something else?

      @@PhilRacicot ,IDK why but if I had to guess it could be a function of additional weight on the front suspension, or maybe motor length ? I have ARB old man emu front coil overs with the super heavy coils and they aren’t really enough with a winch and a CBI Moab plate front bumper and steel IFS skid made out of .250 steel plate. But with the right exhaust the 4.3 sounds amazing and can light up tires in third gear. They also have a timing belt/water pump that needs attention every 100k miles. And they are known for breaking ex manifold bolts my boy has two broken but only loud when cold. Not worth the fix. They are VERY reliable motors, way overbuilt. I can only wish, and like Scotty says those days are gone! It’s turbo 4 and hybrids even for the Tundra👎💩I still think I might buy a gen 4 Taco but not for 3-4 years when they get them perfected.

Maybe 40 years ago it was ok to do but no doubt since the 90s this has been a scam and has made them millions. Don’t be a sucker.If you have a problem call the Car Company headquarters and ask for customer service chances are if you have a bad transmission or blown motor and the vehicle is young it could be covered under a warranty or recall.

    I think that’s the biggest problem - there just aren’t enough people who want or even need big, powerful V8 and V6 Toyota trucks. Most people buy these trucks as basic transportation and maybe haul some things from time to time. Maybe the biggest problem is not the 4-cylinder engines themselves but the cost of buying these trucks. If they were priced accordingly based on the engine configuration, people may actually buy them but even these 4-cyl trucks cost at least $40k+ starting and ironically, that’s probably for the most utilitarian work-oriented model (2-seater, steel wheels, window hand cranks, etc).

    I dunno. I'm no Toyota fan but they have a history of building reliable vehicles and they're the GOAT in hybrids. Electric motors give top torque right off the line. If Toyota ever gets it right a hybrid Tacoma should be a good vehicle, capable of everything the old ones were (& maybe more).
    The new Prius looks and performs better but the old design was more roomy.
    I hate CVTs but they are good at maximizing mpg. I personally would take a Subaru CVT over Toyota (if I was forced to drive a CVT).

    There's a limit to how efficient you can make an engine until the majority of it's loss is actually the vehicle itself, the weight on the drive train(all of the bearings, fluid and journal have friction loss), disk brake drag, aerodynamics, eventually it doesn't make sense to have a big vehicle and only focus on the engine.

    I've driven the Prius 3, and I wasn't impressed in the slightest. It was boring to drive, and the pickup was very hesitant. But last week, I drove a 2016 Lexus IS300h, and I was very impressed. The transition between the electric motor and the internal combustion engine is so smooth that it was like driving an electric car. Just without the disadvantages of an electric car. This way, I like an eCVT. Better than an ordinary automatic. Though the hooligan in me prefers a manual.

    A pick up truck with 4 Cylinders is ridiculous. Also, $45,000 for a mini truck is even more ridiculous. That Tacoma is hardly more than a grocery getter. Why would you need a CREW CAB for a WORK TRUCK? Does that guy take his whole crew to every job site? Of course not, he is probably the only one that is in this truck for work. If it was a real work truck, it would be a Regular Cab long box and an actual tool box in the bed. Scotty just say it like it is, this truck is an over priced grocery getter.

    Got a 2023 Tacoma 4x4 double cab, although it's just not the same quality as my previous Tacoma's, I'm glad I didn't wait for the 2024. I have almost 4,000 miles on my 2023 and I'm not happy about some paint flaws, an uncentered steering wheel (fixed 3x at dealer?!), and a few other goofy things. These are made in Mexico and it shows but still (even if slightly at this point) better than other trucks.

    It’s nice to see there’s an actual PARKING GEAR!! Unlike the 2010 Prius is a push button to press for park and all it does is engage the brakes to hold the car in place! I found this out when all the power went out on the 2010 prius, while driving, and I was on a hill and when I went to go, press the button, for park nothing was engaging so I pretty much had to leave my foot on the brakes and slowly roll backwards down the hill to flatland. And find someone to put a rock in front of and behind the wheels to hold it when I got out.
    And yea the EMERGENCY BRAKE is also electronically operated to engage the rear brake it’s also a pull up (window like) switch

    Disagree about 4 cylinders turbos being fragile. They need to be designed for their power and application and then maintained. They also need to be warmed up before you ask for 100% power. I agree that using a smaller turbo motor in a truck is a very bad idea. Trucks are used to carry loads and the turbo engine lacks torque which will cause increase engine wear. I know that higher engine compartment temperature will shorten wiring and plastic part life. I worked as a chemist for 40 years and a ten degree increase will double the chemical reaction or decay rate. I also realize that companies like to make more profit and that is why more turbo vehicles will decrease vehicle life and lead to increase vehicle purchases.
