The failure and death of BF2042 killed my hope for a properly done follow up to 2006's BF2142. Would have loved to see the weapons, mechs, titans, vehicles.
To be honest, I was surprised this game had a life outside of the abysmal launch. I remember being excited about it when the trailers dropped, then all my interest died with the Overwatch style operators instead of generic soldiers. Not to mention the giant battle royale size maps that are too open and lack any defining things like in Battlefield 1. Its a shame since I wanted to like this, but EA being EA screwed 2042 up so bad. I don't know if this new game will be good since I fully expect it to be terrible like this and Battlefield 5 at launch.

Good devs are long gone already. A Battlefront 3 from DICE would never ever come close to Battlefront 2 at the end of its lifespan for example. Why? Most devs that pitched BF3 and were in love with Star Wars and passionate, left DICE after the rejection of the pitch. Dennis Brännval etc.
Wish the incompetence that is EA/dice wouldn’t give us a battlefield at all anymore after 2042. Don’t really want to see the once great and awesome battlefield name get drug through the dirt and mud for a third release in a row.
If it were up to me, 2042 would've been cancelled long before launch in favor of going all in on Battlefield Portal. 2042 would've still existed in some form, but as an example mode to showcase what can be done with Portal. Then use the game as a platform to sell remakes of the Frostbite era games as DLC/asset/prebuilt gamemode packs for Portal for 30-40 dollars each on a yearly basis, all while trusting the community itself to run wild with the new content to customize/expand upon each of their individual dream Battlefield experiences and share them with others. It would have been a compendium of Battlefield big enough to warrant the modern AAA price tag and still carry life even a decade after launch. Instead we got whatever 2042 was. Filled with odd choices, a wasted plot, and an imminent old-yellering.
This is their new normal; battlefront 2? Get it ALMOST perfect, stop supporting. Battlefield 5? Get it to a relatively good spot, stop supporting. Now with 2042 lmao

Its been said over and over again now, but the fucking "specialists" The gritty immersive atmosphere of previous battlefield games is what I and many others loved about the franchise. Who's bright idea was it to kill that atmosphere by adding these ridiculous characters? Am I playing Battlefield or fucking Overwatch?
I remember watching JFJ’s review of the game, he is a die hard battlefield lover. And he hated it at launch. A class system that makes it seem like the same 6 people are copy pasted instead of YOU. Buggy mess, cool features ignored. He apparently got to talk to the devs and tell them stuff and they flat out said no to nearly everything. Making the game suffer so much more than it should. Kinda glad it’s dying, and hope they actually try next time. But little hope Also no cross VC in between games, no constant servers. Meaning you had to find new ones. You’d never get to trash talk so hard you friend people.
I love 2042 and will still play it. Do I think it's the best BF? Not at all but I enjoy it despite it's flaws. Much more than other FPS out there. Like you say... it always felt like it would be good one update away and it was always a let down. They have not done what was needed for it to thrive and it was dead on release to so many. Battlefield 2042 just never felt right, like its mojo was never on. So close but never quite right there, fumbling at every turn. And with a launch that bad, youll never truly come back from it, the likes of no mans sky are so rare, and battlefield would never last long enough to have that story

Good point about everyone having a launch mindset. I always thought that a lot of the people who continued to clown on the game even after all of the updates and seasons either only played the game on launch when it was still a broken mess or never even touched it. Sure, it may not be a perfect game, but it's still fun to play regardless and I admire the work that DICE has put in to shape the game up to what it is now. And while I am sad that the game will no longer receive any major updates, I'm glad that they're shifting their resources and focusing on the new title

My gunplay is actually pretty good but I feel like I can’t move across the map without getting beamed from 10 different angles. How are people going 50 and 1 in my matches? Are there lots of cheaters?

EA keeps doing the same thing of making a game and releasing it in a terrible state, then supporting it for years and then cutting it off again. For me this game has just never been fluid enough for me on console to play seamlessly. I usually get on and play a game or two but every action feels delayed and that’s always been the main problem to me. And I play on next gen

When getting kills, the red marker doesn’t even come up till the body has fallen. and the same goes for the ui like the quick attachments in game, you press the button to swap an attach,ent and it lags before doing so. This also is extremely prevalent with rockets, as they will hit but not count, unless hitting the body directly. (Mainly referring to the gunship) it’ll hit the wing but not count as a hit. You also get caught on things like small rubble and such a lot
I'll never not be upset about the lack of weapons, especially with how few portal weapons made it in to the base game. Nothing to really shake up the meta. Battlefield 4 had like 20 guns in each category, making almost every firefight unique. As it is now, every engagement is, and has been, against the same 3 or 4 weapons.
I disagree when you say we need premium back. It wouldnt matter. If they were only able to make one map per season, then premium wouldnt change that fact and we would get 4 rushed small maps instead of the big of the season. The teams that were here during the premium era all left. Its new guys since BFV. But i also hate live services. I stopped playing 2042 when the battlepass dropped. I did some challenges and thought "na i cant do this" and never came back. Maybe games do not need post launch content. 1943 had none and had a good community until they shot it down. I was still finding servers full 6 months before the shut down. So sad it wasnt on PC, i loved that game so much.

I can't trust EA as a company when they promise so much and provide so little. The next games sound design, gameplay, maps, and atmosphere need to be bf3/bf1 levels of good in order to satisfy the true die hard battlefield fans who have been disappointed over and over again. The voice actors in 2042 are awful and theres no sense of urgency or terror when it comes down to auto trigger voice lines and call outs. The gameplay and overall aesthetic feels gimmicky and alot more CODish compared to previous entries. None of the maps feel really iconic or well thought out. And although I will probably buy the next battlefield, i cant say i'm looking forward to it and all i can do is cross my fingers and hope it's at least playable.

I still play BF4 passively but it’s wondered off to play Insurgency sandstorm because BF4 is sweaty and dead. Every empire falls and it’s nearing Battlefield’s turn.

I do like the memes and the videos, but I prefer solo experiences in games, and while yes you can technically go solo, it’s built for a team experience and is best played with others. Plus always online, which is no bueno. I’d rather play something else, like BG3, Halo (no, not Infinite), Borderlands, or whatever else. Mainly doing AC6 right now.

For me it’s great news! So they can use their resources for developing a new game! Hopefully similar to bf3 and bf4. I still play BF4 passively but it’s wondered off to play Insurgency sandstorm because BF4 is sweaty and dead. Cheap ass out of region players (JAPANESE) players who ruin American servers with their high ping. We’ll never have that BF golden era of BFBC2,BF3 & BF4. Every empire falls and it’s nearing Battlefield’s turn.

@@thecosmonaut4221 Just not my style of game tbh. I do like the memes and the videos, but I prefer solo experiences in games, and while yes you can technically go solo, it’s built for a team experience and is best played with others. Plus always online, which is no bueno.
I’d rather play something else, like BG3, Halo (no, not Infinite), Borderlands, or whatever else. Mainly doing AC6 right now.
@@deathound regardless if the game is just not your cup of liber-tea is completely okay and understandable but it’s like an ostrich putting his head in the sand if you don’t at least acknowledge that it took a AA team to show all of these AAA studios how to correctly do a live service game when all other studios have failed to do so or come close to how Helldivers 2 is being handled.
Battlefront 2 died for this piss poor game. Even after all these seasons, it still feels half baked and subpar compared to older titles. Rest in piss 2042. You wont be missed
This game could be the best Battlefield ever and i still would not buy it. By buying it i woumd support the buiseness practice if EA, releasing an unfinished game and then polishing it which is not correct.

Great news? They killed another live service game as it began to improve to pull the devs to another game. It’s what’s happened to plenty of EA’s games and the end product disappoints. More devs doesn’t mean better game.
