People really need to understand and stop downplaying how the specialist system ruins Battlefield. Not only does it ruin the emersion of the game when you see 30 clones of the same american hero character on both teams, but it also makes games confusing as fuck when you can't tell who's friend or foe, and worst of all it forces players into picking the best hero character for running and gunning like a call of duty player because now they'd rather use the goofy ass grappling hook or flying suit instead of healing teammates, spotting enemies, or repairing vehicles. With the specialists, it's just not Battlefield anymore.
Should have kept the segment in the video talking about this but thought to I would talk about it in the next “what I want from the next battlefield game” type of video so I just said it doesn’t bother me fully

I couldn't agree more. The specialists put a huge damper on the experience. There was nothing more badass than just two army's with regular soldiers just duking it out. I'm just happy there are others out there with the same opinion.

Battlefield 4 imo was when the franchise started seeing it's age simply because the campaign was shit and trying way too hard to be CoD, whereas 1 at least tried to do something different even if the end product was a historically bastardized version of a WW1 shooter.

All I wanted from 2042 was Battlefield 4.5, just more BF4, update the graphics, yet Dice and EA can't even do that.

It was too much, and anyone with project scoping capability & experience would’ve known that was way too much. And it was way too much, and underdelivered on every front.
A console friendly middle ground between simulator & arcade shooter, Building destruction, land sea sky vehicles, objective based gameplay… that was the battlefield formula & it worked. New features & Changes should only have aimed to improve those key features.
2042 got rid of any realism, any amount of building destruction, ruined solo infantry < solo vehicle < infantry squad < squad vehicle.
It ruined all the positives and attempted to replace them with dead game content. Crazy.

Probably because Battlefront 1 was a shitty COD clone and Battlefront 2 was only enjoyed by lightsaber obsessed monkeys who primarily played Heroes vs Villains. The actual infantry combat in both games was shallow as hell and missing the depth that makes Battlefield infantry combat so much fun.

The thing is bf3-bf1 and even bfV had that certain feel in the controls, hard to explain but maybe like slightly loose in some ways? you do a hard swing left or right and the gun drags and sways as if your eyes are slightly faster than your arms ect, which i think was a touch that only those old devs that knew frostbite in and out can do, and theyre all gone now so yeah i dont see myself pouring hours and hours into a bf game that just feels like any other hero/arcady shooter, 2042 was made by people that didn't even LIKE battlefield, let alone have any experience in it's world, community or gameplay details, i don't see a way back outside of remasters/hybrids of old games at this point

Yup it’s a mechanic called inertia. A lot of fps games have it, but BF3-V did it really well, BF2042 inertia and animations just feel clunky, rushed, & unpolished.
@@Shaggii_ There is no inertia, just the animation inertia lol. The game itself doesnt have inertia for the movement. Movement inputs are insant. And yes we need that animation where guns sway right and left when you jump and do stuff. 2042 indeed feels like a F2P arcade game.
Yeah. The only Battlefield game I've played is 1 (which, I loved it) but the gunplay does feel kind of loose, and just overall not very nice.

I wouldnt mind a cold war Battlefield game. So you get weapons, factions, and places from the early 50s to the early 90s. You would get massive amount of variety and future content variety as well.
That direction would have made sense after going from WW1 -> WW2 -> Cold War.

I cant find a normal game of operations anywhere on xbox 1😢 there are 3 servers still up but its the same 6 or 8 custom maps, god its sad seeing these old titles die out, the servers were FULL every weekend, even on bf4 its a bit better in terms of servers but not by much

The developers really forgot who the target audience was. The whole point of Battlefield was teamwork based gameplay with a large map instead of COD style run and gun in a small arena type action. There was fast paced gameplay but it was how it felt natural and not forced into a corridor on a map. Strategy played a role with semi realistic gameplay while not taking it to serious like the mil sim games. I played on and off up until BF1. Played a bit of it and while I understand for gameplay reasons it still felt weird playing a faster paced WW1 with most players using semi and automatic weapons. BFV was not good imo and the cracks in the foundation were starting to show.
I don’t know about team, it was always the vehicles for me.
If anything BF5 was the most team focused and it sucked. You could heal to 100% unless you had friends. And now you barely had any ammo.
Sure BF BC 2 BF3 and 4 had the classes. But you could do well on your own.

Someone always wanted to help repair your vehicle, hero medics followed you everywhere, while supports helped you restock your ammo while suppressing the enemy. To this day i still haven't found a game that gives me that same feel.
@josetomascamposrobledano4618 that's the cool part, both the vehicle play and the teamwork were so good, that we could both get what we wanted out of the same game, whichever thing we preferred. I liked both, I loved tanking and flying, but when all the vehicles were full, or on maps that didn't have them, I'd go hard-core infantry medic and keep my whole squad alive and moving and it just felt so much better than just pushing for a crazy K/D

I don’t mean to say that Battlefield didn’t have teamwork. That would be insane to say. It’s clear as day that working together has many advantages, like how Medics with few kills would always be top of the scoreboard on Operation Metro. Or the infamous AH-scout helicopters with 2 engineers on the side, with stingers and repair tools on hand.
Or even the squad leader system to coordinate attacking flags.
What I am saying however is that contrary to the top comment. I do not believe that team work was the core of Battlefield experience.
The core of Battlefield was massive scale combat. That’s it.
That core has stuff like teamwork, as well as vehicles. And many other amazing features, like weapons designed for engagement ranges. Unlike cod, on Battlefield BC 2 till Bf1 I was switching weapons from full auto to single fire in order to better control recoil for certain engagements. And to this core I’ll even add the map destruction and how we moved from small events to BF1’s wastelands after the end of an operations match.
So what I’m saying is that teamwork isn’t the 100% target audience. The solo experience of Battlefield has been amazing. I did have random engineers repairing my tank, but it’s also true that 90% of the time it was myself getting out of trouble and repairing it myself.
So when BF5 happened. The fact Solo players got severely nerfed did sour my experience.
Sure BF5 did get a bit of a Battlefront 2 revival with the Pacific Front DLC… but overall they did hit a portion of the actual “target audience” by focusing more on teamwork.
Hence why I like the older BF games and see BF5 as a downgrade with 2042 being the nail in the coffin.
Oh man, I did write a lot. I shouldn’t be too surprised. I have too many fond memories of using the Attack Helicopters and switching to the Gunner seat for a few seconds as a solo pilot.
Teamwork in BFV is, frankly, actually pretty good and I love attrition. There, I said it. When I need ammo in BFV, I know EXACTLY where to go and get it, who to get it from, etc.
When I need to heal, I know EXACTLY where to go, how to get it, from whom.
The medics in BFV are frankly the best I've experienced in any Battlefield, and I played BF2, BF2142, BF3, BF4, BFV multiplayer.
The way you can load up on explosives as assault, all the things you can specialize in the classes in BFV, I honestly love it.
If BFV didn't have a political scandal, and worked in terms of anticheat/no bugs, it would be literally my second favorite Battlefield of ALL the ones I played after, only, 2142.

And yeah, BF2 is last place despite it being the first game I ever played at all, and what hooked me on battlefield. I just don't like that early, super low range inaccurate gunplay, and magical super accuracy with the pistols and sniper rifle while the M249 can't hit something 10 meters away. BF2142 changed a lot of that.

I honestly want a new battlefield game in the same aesthetic and feel as Battlefield 2. The vehicle selection, the factions, and the classes. I’m also very tired of every game being the US vs Russians, why hasn’t the Middle East Alliance ever appeared in battlefield game since then? Also would be cool to have those SPAH vehicles like the M109 or 2S1 or 2S3. Also hearing the next Cod game is gonna be in the gulf war makes me really sad battlefield never tried that era yet and it doesn’t just have to be the 1991 gulf war, you could do the Iran-Iraq war which happened a few years prior to that, etc.

BF2 was literally alternate universe Gulf War, plus Iran, plus WW3 with China. I feel like an Iran-Iraq war BF2 would suck the way gunplay worked in that game, and Iran Iraq having a lot of trench warfare.
Ngl I don't like anything about what I'm hearing of this next game. I'm tired of AAA companies following trends and trying to be other games. Battlefield does not need a battle royale. it doesn't need to have an extraction mode. battlefield should focus on BEING BATTLEFIELD! I'm tired of all these games meshing into each other man, seriously. how blind can you be to not see that the games that stay true to themselves often garner the most success!? for example: HELLDIVERS 2! when was the last time a AAA studio decided to make a purely cooperative experience not focused on pvp?? The massive 128 player count doesn't work IMO because of the increased mobility and laser accuracy/no recoil of weapons in 2042.
Of course it sucks when you have 40 people, 20 on each side in one small area shooting at the same time, helicopter flying around and a random dude in a hoverboat running people over. There is a such thing as TOO MUCH of a good thing. Then no matter where you go you have 40 more people here, then there. It never ends.
The crazy "only in battlefield" moments are great, but its been taken to the extreme with how much is going on at once. Increased mobility and low recoil/high accuracy weapons that can be fired on automatic will do that.
DICE just doesn't have what it takes anymore. The formula is there, it's in BC2, BF3, and BF4. They literally just have to do the same thing but add drones or something as something new. But they refuse to do it.
Very rarely does a game dev get such an EASY task from the fans. Most devs are hated on for being the same, never innovating. Battlefield fans are begging for DICE to literally just copy the old games and make them look nicer. They still can't do it.
Yeah I don’t get how the devs don’t understand it. 120 players and no recoil laser accurate guns don’t make the game better, only worse. Also the extremely fast pace of 2042 is a turn off as well. They’re trying way too hard to bring in the COD kids.

It wasn't just the marketing (that was a big part for sure) on BF5. When they released the game, people forget another common complaint was it had like 5 maps. I liked BF5, but they released the game to early.

I think they know they call still sell a heaping pile of shit and make profit with way less effort so that is what they do.
Aside from scrapping specialists and bringing back more destructible environment, they need to bring back dedicated servers and being able to interact with the opposing team via the chat.
The opportunity to get to know the player base a bit better and form rivalries and gain team mates really makes the game more addictive and competitive and fun.
They've made it into a safe space too much. And playing against bots isn't fun or rewarding.

How develop a battlefield game properly in 5 steps:
1-Bring the atmosphere of BF1.
2-Movement of Battlefield 5
3-EVERYTHING about BF bad company 2
4-maps like BF4 & 3
5-Either keep it 64 v64 with small to medium size maps BUT space the objectives with good cover and 3 lanes or 32 v 32 with maps with great cover and insane destruction
Bonus: keep the Kll streak perks of 4 and add the team kll streak perks of 5. (Meaning the team can unlock artillery or a V1 rocket or something like that while individual players maybe able to unlock a extra grenade or speed etc) And the TTK of 4 😮💨

The old cod games literally survive thanks to campaign (unless you’re from the US, they are addicted to every single one).
I did after one game on the beta, play was so laughably bad I just refunded. Haven’t been interested in it since, even when they had it free to play on PlayStation.

As someone who really got into gaming because of Battlefield 1942 (ya I’m old), this makes me sad. Wish they would get back to their roots and keep it simple. No one wants a Battlfield BR. We’ve hit BR fatigue and it’s too late in the game for this. It kinda stinks EA is so money hungry and is just focused on money above what the players want.
Yeah I'm old and played 1942 as my first BF game, probably played the most of BF2, but I don't really care about a BR mode as that's just to try to bring in more players to the core BF game.
I just don't care for the silly Call of Duty player speed. The specialist crap is AIDS but if they're going back to the normal class system that's good. If they got rid of that stupid Call of Duty your-soldier-runs-50-mph player speed and actually re-added that epic Bad Company 2 destruction back (which despite claims they've never come close to), I'd be VERY interested in it. Oh and have a server browser.
But that'll never happen, esp the player speed, so I've accepted it's dead for me.

I'll be honest for a moment. I really like the idea of maps with more players. To put it in simple terms, I like football much more than boxing or chess.
You can't find yourself in a losing situation where you are 10 people trying to hold off 30, only to be saved by 5 friendly tanks rolling in, if the entirety of the teams only consists of 5v5.

Competitive mentality isn't going to work. In BF franchise you're just a regular soldier. They tried that hero shooter garbage in 2042 and that resulted a huge blowback from players. Do what you do best DICE & EA leave the BR stuff. You're not going to make money out of that even with the microtransactions. Make a BF game like BF1 with modern settings and sell it with $100 price tag and you'll be happy.
I wish they just continued supporting BF4. New maps, balance patches, QoL changes, and maybe a minor graphical face-lift could have gone a long way.
For the monetization scheme, they could have added paid cosmetics with the ability to disable them per client, so that players who prefer their game to look somewhat serious could continue to appreciate the game.

i still play bf4 to this day. the servers are still active and if you play with friends each class will compliment eachother so you play more efficiently

I completely agree with the player count going back to 64 but i will say even some bf4 maps felt to big for 64 player, ex As much as I love silk it felt like 70% of the time it was a chore to find people yes its more so a tank map but damn the middle of the map were the barracks were felt like the only fun part of the map for infantry, Dice NEEDS to find a better Middle ground hell to me all the china rising maps while fun to play on with the jungle vibes felt waay to big
Whatever they make, my PC is now 12 years old and couldn't run it in even minimum spec, and I won't be building another till this time next year at the earliest.

Battlefield would need the following to succeed:
-customizable "generic" soldiers rather than hero shooter characters with predefined personality
-use inspiration from plenty of war footage in Ukraine and make it look like we're inside a tank or APC firing the actual weapon through a screen and see it from the soldier's eyes. Make the screen flicker and shake as if you're looking at the gun sights in an LCD screen.
At this point in time, "Battlefield" has morphed into an abyss that just devours anything and everything that it comes in contact with. It's a gaping blackhole that will never be "fixed". I can't even fathom how EA has 6 different production teams on payroll to solely focus on Battlefield but still can't get it right and the project is already in development hell.
I don't understand why game studio have such dilemma in going back to the basics and keeping it simple . in they quest of making diamonds the players only get old wet coals .
it seems very promising i think i actually have some hopes ish them giving it 4 years is definitely something, the campaign will probably be ass but it it is what it is and the battle royale is a good thing too if they make it free
A fun co-op mode for battlefield would be awesome. I know having a dinosaur mode kind of like zombie la for cod has been a meme for years but it could be fun.
If you want the same Battlefield experience over and over, go play BF4 and BF3. It's this mentality that's the reason for remakes. BF2042 was a mess at launch, sure, but it has improved massively since then. Those who didn't return had already made up their minds. Once the cognitive bias is set, you are no longer able to see the good things. Even great things are negative and you become a sour negative person. Only thing I want from the next Battlefield is them taking the Army theme more serious instead of the Disney Battle royale allstars bullshit theme. More blood and PTSD please.
Battlefield 1 on release took a lot of time to adjust to the player-base's perception of game-play and it improved overtime, Today its one of the best in the franchise and one of a my favourite gameplay experiences ever

The original designers of the game started to leave during BF1 and really started to clear out during BF5. 2042 had next to none of the original developers working on it.
This franchise is dead and EA killed it. The "no modding" nonsense with BF3 or the "DAY ONE DLC" of BC2 started the clock that EA was gonna suck the money dry out of this franchise.

Battle Royale isn’t Battlefield. As an alternative mode it’s good as a supplement feature. Battlefield is about being a member of group apart of a larger team, to accomplish tasks leading to achieving a goal. The Royale aspect for Battlefield, if it that is to become the main focus for the franchise, then The Battlefield Original will have been lost. Continue upgrading the coding (as the franchise should) but let’s keep Battlefield a field of Battle.

At this point the only battlefield game I regularly play is Battlefield 1942. You know, the first one. The only other one aside from 3 and 4.
The lack of factions in 2042 wasn't really talked a lot about in everyone's criticisms of the game but I think it's super unimmersive from both a lore and gameplay perspective.
For a world driven apart by economic and environmental disasters, the war in 2042 feels unnaturally bland and unusually organized between just America and Russia as if a) the armies of China, India, Japan, Europe, the Koreas and the Middle East would just cease to exist (except for their "no-pats") and b) corporations, mercenaries, and revolutionaries wouldn't play a pivotal role in combat. No stakes, no complexity... just Uncle Sam and Uncle Vladimir duking it out for the 99th time. Sure we got some hints of other major players in the wall of text that was the lore but that's all they are... text.

i hate how they somehow made the movement and gunplay feel worse in BF2042. as much as how everyone hates BFV, I absolutely loved how fluid and seemless the movement and gunplay was in that game. In BF2042 the gunplay felt stiff and almost clunky but not quite, i cant really describe it. and the movement wasnt as fluid either, especially the animations.
I can’t agree with you on the “third game mode”. These games need to take a step back and make smaller concepts not make bigger more expensive concepts that would only lead to a loss. They need to go back to roots.
We do not need Battlefield to do another genre. Battefield is the massive multiplayer shooter game. It is not anything else. The name should not be used for anything else.

Never thought that all those sleepless nights playing battlefield 1 with my friends in highschool were going to be the last good battlefield experiences ill ever have. Quite depressing. I remember when the name battlefield meant something. When cod and battlefield were neck and neck. Now they’re both rotting too much to bother competing with each other
