John Daly was a Lieutenant (jg) in the Naval Reserve and was called to active duty following Pearl Harbor. He was stationed in Washington. In 1943 President Roosevelt ordered those in uniform who, in civilian life, were news correspondents to return to their civilian jobs. So Daly returned to CBS. He covered the war in Europe for CBS.
Yes, this is when America was compared to other countries which had not recovered from WWII. America today is greater than it was in the 1950s, but other countries are much greater than in 50s. Now it is a very competitive world.
@@davidk4940 No country is “much greater than the US,” but many countries are much greater than those countries were in the 1950s. To be clear, in the 1950s, when WML was broadcast, the US was by far the greatest country. With the possible exception of Canada, no other country came close. Since the 1950s many countries, including the US, improved, but the rate of improvement was lower for the US than for most countries in Europe, many countries in Asia. Now, the US no longer has a great advantage over the other G20 countries. We all know that China is on track to become the biggest economy, and many countries have per capita GDP higher or equal to the US. Lifestyles in Scandinavia, UK, EU, Japan, Israel, and other countries are as good as in the US. It has become a highly competitive world.

I absolutely love all of the What’s My Line panelests. I can’t believe they got this one!

I love this program. One would never know Ms. Cody was a knife thrower.
I was three years old. What class these folks had. Was this when America was great?

Nice that Arlene stood for that Annapolis commander. Dorothy should have, too.
Why?
Lol when you start as an officer and keep going up.. you are more important than the soldiers on the front line?
Such a male attitude
Back when everything was so simple!
Walter Pidgeon was way off the pace. Celebrities on the panel detract from the pace and interest of the show. Ditto celebrities as "guests"
Baskerville22 - Actually Walter Pigeon did well as a panelist.

The audio is out of sync to the video. It makes viewing annoying, to say the least.
