Hi, Andrew. That is a great question! The Audix mics and the sE Electronics V series mics are both fantastic and will definitely serve your purpose in both live and studio applications. I personally like the V series microphones because they have a slightly larger frequency range, as well as having an internal shock mount and windscreen already built into the mic so that you can ensure you get a clean tone. For the kick drum mic comparison, the V Kick mic also has 4 EQ settings that you are able to choose from to help dial in the tone you are looking for when recording or miking up the kick. I hope that his helps, let us know if you have any other questions! Maryann Shirley, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1774, maryann_shirley@sweetwater.com
Looks like Nick has some dampening material in the bottom of the toms. Interested to know what that is, because it really helps those toms sound fatter and deeper, without ringing forever.
I use gaffer tape on resonant heads almost always. It's also pretty safe on the bottom of cymbals if you need to control the decay a bit. For example, some of my Paiste Signatures emit a high-pitch ring after the crash is finished. One inch square of gaffer tape, problem solved.
the question I have is why they chose to make the v mics supercarioid, which picks up a bit of sound behind the microphone. wonder if this results in a lot of cymbal bleed into the tom mics
The thing about the supercadioid polarpatern is the rejection of the bleed coming from the sides of the mic. So that way you get a cleaner sound an less bleed. sure, thers some sound coming from behind, but thats pretty minor. This picup pattern is also great for live vocals with a loud band. its way more focused. :-)
OMG, thanks for this video. I am now warned not to buy these mics which sound not really good. The expensive chinese Micros have not convinced me. Nick is a great drummer and will sound always good, even with bad mics.
and now they are the most popular drum mics today🙌🏼
That parallel feature for mounting and xlr input is pretty neat.
Stunning drum sound, principally the overhead!
The SE 8's are SO much better than their price range!
When are we getting a drum mic shout out ??? One awesome kit, one awesome player (a.k.a. Nick), and all the drum mic kits in your catalogue!!!!
Which is better between Audix dp7 and this SE electronics arena in terms of built and sound quality? Torn between these two
Both very good. Can’t go wrong
surprising to see nick play, but not present afterward.
Great video! I've just purchased an Audix D6 and i5, I wonder how these sE Electronics mics compare?

Andrew Lukins I had D4’s and 2 D6’s. The VBeat, and VKick REPLACED my audix mics. They’re that good.

cotton balls!
@@EvilSewnit Do you need to tape it down, or can you just let them float about
@@Utkarsh_A Let them float. That's the purpose, as a gate.

I love you nick but when you were demoing the toms they sounded terrible. Sounds very flat and something was rattling
The tom mics sounded like 57s and i don't mean that as a good thing.

"Thick bottom end" you say? lol
