I think you should keep this concept going with Rabea and Joss trying out metal gear and call it "Riff and Twiddle"
A J That's fantastic! Hilarious
I second "Riff and Twiddle."
I thought exactly the same thing!! lol
fuck ya
This is the best suggestion by far
The MXR sounds like how we call make fun of the metal zone for sounding
Lloyd Griffiths So true! Lol
It sounds really well, if you're into early 90s Metallica
It really isn't difficult to use... I wouldn't know about tube amps, but this thing is likely made for solid state. I run it into an Orange CR120H with a Laney IRT212, and it's gorgeous
Lloyd Griffiths it really does it sounds worse than a black metal recording
The Fullbore Metal will have it's time to some just as the Metalzone has this year.
My ranking:
1 : Diezel VH4
2 : Amp Tweaker Tight Metal
3 : Keeley Filaments
4 : Bogner Uberschall
5 : Boss Metal Zone
...
100 : MXR Fullbore Metal
Dirk Hennig the 100 is still too generous
The diezel is fierce. Massive low end from that thing that not many other pedals can dream of achieving. I rank these ones exactly like you did
Nailed it.
It sounded so bad. It was like they were playing it out of a nokia through a ham radio.
LOL maybe 99999999
1. Metal Zone.
2. Metal Zone.
3. Metal Zone.
4. Metal Zone.
5. Miku Pedal.
Joss shreds like a madman
Kesis you'RE watching gak
Joss and Rabea is definitely the new wombo combo for metal videos, this was great!
'Riff & Twiddle' should be the name of the series of videos with Bea and Joss
Yeah I was gonna comment this!
IMHO, the Amptweaker sounded absolutely *enormous* and was clearly the best of the lot, with the Uberschall close behind.
The MXR sounded by far the worst in standard "everything at 12" settings, boxy and harsh, but improved dramatically with the settings adjusted.
You cant go wrong with amptweaker its designer is James Brown , the king of tone
zip it, the MXR sounded by far the best in standard settings, boxy but heavy
Its just my opinion but the Amptweaker tight metal pro is the best sounding pedal/preamp there is. Everyone has their own opinion , if you like something different for your sound thats cool. I was just saying what I liked best for my own personal style of playing
Zip it,lol.
I totally agree Gary
I'm not convinced that Joss is a human after watching this.
Mostly because his hands look like he has skin like "the engineers" from "Prometheus". He shreds, though!
Shred pixie :D
I think he may be like one of those things from Men In Black that look like humans, but have tiny aliens inside, controlling them. In Joss' case he's got an 11-year-old Asian kid controlling him! :D
Metal zone. ALL THE GAIN!
clf400 NO MIDS
MRPorkchopgames SLAYER!
Satan6455 MOAR GAIN!
MAOR GAIIIN!
I like being haird in the mix
I would love to see a trio with Bea, Rob and Joss testing metal pedals, amps and what ever else you could come up with. We need more of Joss and Beas insane metal skills on here!
So much for saying which one they each preferred.
Yeah, what the hell happened there.
Mike Clark obvious they chose the MT-2! 🤘🏼
Probably because they hated all of them, based on their faces while playing them.
Could Andertons do the same for blues and other genres? That would be dope
Ethan Rummel Yeah please!
Cheap end - Tone City don't make a single bad pedal. Roland Blues Driver.
Its coming!! Pete was doing the edit last week I think.
We sure can.. In fact... Watch this space... :)
dude thats basically what all their videos are. blues wankery.
Top 5 Metal Pedals period
1. MT-2
2. MT-2
3. MT-2
4. MT-2
5. MT-2
andrewho18 can not argue with that. Undisputed
I clicked on the video expecting a comment like this to be the top comment. Kinda disappointed its not higher up
i prefer only one
There can be only one!
No love for the HM3 ......
Such an underrated pedal !
Way, WAY more interesting playing than Lee and Rob always do. Let's see more from these two
A bit disappointed not to see the Dracarys here! :p
Same
Honestly, great pedal, but I think Keeley blows it away in that price range and tone.
the fullbore metal from MXR is the new metalzone, it seems.
(+Renan Beltrão) At least the MT-2 can be used well.
The MXR sounded like like 💩
More scooped than an overworked ice cream counter.
maybe the mxr 5150 would be a better option
or the Super Badass Distortion. I have one and it's an absolutely fantastic sounding and versatile pedal.
I had it for about two years, it's very harsh, but there are some sweet spots that he is sounding incredible......
such a bedroom metal pedal
I thought you were going to say which one you thought was best? Totally agree on the Metal Zone, nothing wrong with it at all, cracking pedal.
Xtra Spice Mikey Maybe I'm lucky but I've been able to get a nice beefy metal tone from it. I suppose settings on the amp play a part. I only have the gain about half. You can get some real horrible sounds from it too but there are a lot of settings to play with.
Rabea's first riff run on the Filaments pedal is CRUSHING!!!
Joss just whipping out the Mastodon riffage. Every time I hear that riff I can't help but smile.
Don't say "MMMEEETAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL" if you are not a bald german dude
EdO-M or a hot metal chic named Brittney Slayes
Thats what she said :DDDD
Henning will kick his a*s! Or make him his next switch bi*ch! :D
that's what she said
EdO-M oh my dear HENING!
Damn! That Filaments High Gain Distortion Pedal! Good stuff!
Almost makes me want to play metal again!
I felt like this video was absolutely the best introduction to Joss and what he brings to the channel. He and Rabea were a perfect pairing. Thanks gentlemen!
wth, weren't they supose to pick their fav?
IKR???
Alex Kenivel it was metalzone ;)
Andertons should make a riff wars and a shred wars between Rabea, Josh and Rob! Would be absolutely epic
Rob wouldnt win.
Lee Jones To me its not about who wins. And have you seen his shred wars against Jared Dines? Because that was awesome
Rabea would slay them both alive.
I've only ever seen two shred wars entries I liked and those were Sarah Longfield and a fan in the fan shred wars edition. The rest is just always the same uninspired shreddery that makes me go "yeah, you're fast but is that it?".
Might just not be my style though, maybe other people actually feel something hearing that but I don't. For the same reason I usually enjoy Lee's playing a ton more than Rob's. Might not be as fast but tight and slow is better than sloppy and fast and, well, there's actually some emotion in there.
Buuut that's just how I feel.
This is possibly one of my favourite gear demos. It's clear they are having such a laugh and both such awesome guitarists.
What about the mxr 5150?
I liked all of them apart from the mxr fullborne metal
sounded like it was inspired by the Metal Zone
Flynn Hanbury Tenison I own one. It can get out of hand really, REALLY quickly. I only use it for my very clean humbucking guitars, because running actives into it is just obscene. Even dirty passive humbuckers, or ones with too much heat get too wild.
Flynn Hanbury Tenison I have a fullbore metal and I hate it,lol...but then again my amp sucks too so maybe that's my problem
Yeah it sounded like it was underwater.
If they turned off the scoop and left it pure it sounds way beastly, i own one myself amd it delivers really well
Daaamn, I really like the Filaments!
MXR Metal Zone. I tried it once and was amazed on how it seemed impossible to get a fairly usable tone from it. Happy to see it wasn't just me
The best thing about this video? Seing Joss completely out-shred Rabea like it was nothing! Made my day.
Good show, Mesa Throttle Box should be in there, it's a Dual Rec on the floor. How that isn't metal I have no idea.
I honestly think that the MetalZone sounded better than the MXR Fulbore
A wet fart sounds better than the MXR did here.
Jonnzon I have the fullbore and I hate it, it sounds awful, but thats my opinion
I got a metalzone for free, I use it as an EQ basically for my boss ds1 sounds great
Have you tried the MT2 into the loop return using the MT2 as a preamp? That also sounds great!
Civic legit lol
Diezel VH4 and it wasn't even a contest. I was surprised at how good the MT-2 was, despite its rep for bad tones. Must be a case where the tool is as good as the worker there.
I've come to really appreciate Rabea. He is such a well rounded player. I hate this shredding metal but he makes it bearable. I love his reviews and demos.
weird how the friedman BE-OD wasnt included haha
This. And the the EVH 5150 Overdrive!
The two best overdrive/distortion pedals ever made, and they don't even include them, nevermind that they smoke all these pedals here.
yeaaaaa ok, the friedman sounds like ass
Zach Milgrom translation you obviously can't afford it
I don't think so at all. It's limited in what it can do (in my opinion) so if you don't like the Friedman sound then you won't like the BE-OD but if you like the "Marshall on Meth" tone then the Friedman kicks ass rather than sounds like it.
so glad andertons picked up Joss
Kotow Boy and stops saying "Ting"
i found him a bit tryhardy
Dark Centurion probably because he's new to Andertons. For the GAK channel he was pretty relaxed for those demos. He may settle down. He may not!
I'll be honest I really can't stand this guy. Way too loud and tryhardy. Sounds a lot like he thinks he's the shit
Yeah but if you say anything bad Herr Capitan will kick your arse oot the door
Mxr sounds like a portable 8x8 practice amp with a 3” speaker
The MXR was too brutal that I literally turn down the volume 👹
I am personally more of an amp gain kinda guy, but use overdrives/distortions mostly to boost my signal and make it compress more. When plugging a Maxon OD-808 into my Orange Tiny Terror I found that it becomes a more British approach to a frequency response simular to that of a Mesa Dual Rectifier. I never really liked Metal pedals because of that but I think they could definitely be suited to use in front of a Pre-amp pedal that goes into the FX-loop of an amp or maybe a loose power amp.
You understand, then, how to be H A I R E D in a mix.
Who nose?
Yeah I don't really get the niche for these pedals since you are just going to boost your signal before it goes in Channel 4 of your Mesa Boogie or Channel 3 of your EVH! :0
The MT-2 has a.... unique sound I must say. It was actually the first drive pedal I ever bought, for 50 quid at a pawn shop and have been continuously selling it and buying it back again for 5 times in a row. The thing is that I really liked it going into either my Vox Valvetronix VT-40+ or my Line 6 Spider before I sold that piece of crap because the Vox is not made for high gain and heavy distortion so it loses all mid presence and just has lows and a bit of highs. The only thing putting me off was that it added a LOT of noise into the signal so I would've probably had to buy a noise gate if I wanted to keep playing it.
thomogon...is this a troll or something?
Don't even listen to much metal and still watching this (and enjoying it!!!!)
Marcus Hogan you don't know what you are missing
As I said not a big metal listener but grown to really like Dorje (obviously!) but really love Sabbath's first three albums, Alter Bridge, Ozzy Osbourne solo stuff, Deep Purple. Listen to a lot of hard rock though (Led Zep, GnR, ACDC, Cream, Black Country Communion)
Marcus Hogan you should try Iron Maiden and Judas Priest
Hell yeah !! Judas Priest \m/ 🤘
They're probably a bit too dark for me. Nonetheless I massively respect the talent in the genre
This was RIGHTEOUS !!!! Make it a regular series.
Well hold on everyone, I own an MXR Badass, the Fullbore Metal and an OCD (among others) and with a little knob tweaking and stacking you can get some unearthly tones. The Fullbore gives you unparalleled range plus a scoop and noise gate and a great price point to boot. I thought the other pedals were fairly limited when the guys started turning knobs. When I stack my Badass and the Fullbore I get the most insane, cut threw the mix, sustained for days blistering with harmonics lead tone ever. Don't write it off. I also thought the guys got the most excited after playing the Fullbore, more excited than the other pedals anyway. As always, it's a matter of taste :)
Thought this would be something like "Top 5 pedals FOR Metal". Meaning pedals that would be on a board for playing metal, because tbh, the distortion almost always comes from just the amp. Pedals like maybe a boost, a delay and such. Maybe make something like in the future?
I 2nd that idea
Mostly thatd just be something like a Boss DD-7 or DD-3 or a MXR Carbon Copy and some sorta Tube Screamer clone from what ive seen on people's boards though i would like to see Andertons try their take on that concept
For metal - and then maybe get some metal players too. No idea how anyone could judge anything from this?
I was going to say that the first two were too scooped without a body in the midrange.
Then the MXR fullbore appeared and I literally laughed my ass off.
I would like to know the guy that tested it after the first build and said "yeah, sounds good, let's sell it".
He must be deaf or a troll :)
That pedal is actually beastly if you take the time to dial it in ..it’ sounds like poop in this video lol
I felt the same but they messed with the dials and it sounded fine to me. Though the first two were obvious bests to me
This was a fun one. Diezel sounds great!
8:07 is the most honest opinion I have ever heard.
Just so you guys know in America Mooch means to beg like someone with a cup asking for change in front of a store is "mooching" for change
MB215 anything people try to mooch
ACTUALLY, the mxr sounds good , but people keep using the damned scoop button. It ruins the whole thing.
EXACTLY. People are sick to dismiss it because a lot of demos leave the scoop button on and ultimately makes for one sided opinions.
Im more of a rnb/hip hop/jazz/soul person, but i respect metal and how versatile it is
The Diezel and Uberschall sounded great.
Would have been exciting to see/hear, how the Fullbore Metal reacts in front of for example an already driving Marshall. It sounds like it's not really designed to be used as a standalone on a clean sound. Really enjoyed the riffing!
No love for the Wampler Dracarys?
Eian Carlo Arellano having had a play around with one first hand I can confirm I have a lot of love for that pedal. It is ferocious.
The Dracarys is a very cool pedal. It can do a lot.
Guess Andertons doesnt sell it haha.
I'm diggin Joss and Bea together. The perfect amount of talent and shred!
That Filaments pedal was unreal
gonna say metal zone before it fills up the comments section
(wampler decarys should have been in the video)
NO MIDS!
ALL THE GAIN!!!
SLAYER
I love you guys
40% MIDS!
I kinda dig this new format.
Now I want Bea and Joss to review all the metal things; best amps for metal, best guitars for metal, best cabs, best multi-FX, etc. -- all in the context of "teh br00talz".
Why would you want two non-metal players to test metal gear? They just flunked the opportunity to test metal pedal by shredding all the way through the video rather than playing actual metal!
@@poulwintherknudsen711 Fine players both of them. But videos demoing metal pedals and amps, the players should be playing a couple brutal iconic metal rhythm parts throughout, for every pedal. Chug the whole time like The Swede.
@@jfo3000 My point exactly. This says nothing.
I think the thing with the Metal Zone is that it's the first pedal that lots of young guitarists buy, purely because it says "Metal Zone" on it, they don't spend any time trying to dial in a decent sound, and then cry because they paid £80 for it.
I liked the no nonsense silliness of the video. I wouldn't watch one or these a week, but now and then it's brilliant. As much as I like metal, one has to joke about it now and then.
But even with that, I really wonder how they would sound in a mix. The full bore sounded, well you heard, but with bass and drums, does it sit better in the mix than a pedal that fills up the space on its own.
Also fun to see Bea go "well now I have to step it up". Great pairing. Look forward to see where this will go and see Josh (I so hope I didn't get his name wrong) find his voice at Andertons.
If the Captain reads this (there's soooo many comments, I think many just go into the empty space and isn't read by anyone:)), thank you for branching out and make the channel broader. No matter how much I enjoy a RUclipsr I need variety. This is by far the most varied channel.
Do NOT use the SCOOP on the MXR Fullbore! I love the pedal but you have to set it correctly...
Diezel VH4 was far and away my favourite.
Lee: These guys should be a regular series. I'm watching on repeat.
something wrong with the mic level on the ''fullbore''. . at least I hope that's what was wrong with it.. and weren't you guys going to pick a favorite? (I don't mind anyway, it was obviously the VH4 to me)
bottleneck1100 no I have a fullbore and sounds just like that, I have managed to get a couple OK sounds out of it but thats it
Austin Moser Yeah it began to sound better with the highs turned way down.
Just started watching, no 5150 overdrive??
snasdante came out a year or two back. My take is "of 2017" means pedals that came out this year
Joe Sanders that's what I was thinking but the uberschall has been out a few years
Joe Sanders the full bore has been out for years almost picked one up a few years ago
The ampertweaker pedal was designed by James Brown , the guy who designed the 5150
I choose the TIGHT METAL probably the best amongs all
This was a great video. so high energy and full of killer riffage. i like the direction that Andertons is going with its content.
the Keeley filaments gets my vote. Hell, we use the trusty DS1 for our dirty gain on our channel, pretty decent as i modded it!
same for fuzz?
it would be fine, thx :)
Joss seemed unbelievably excited to do this video, and after hearing him play I can see why.
What I am mostly amazed by is Rabea's magical musical touch. The guy doodles rhythms and chord progressions that other musicians can't do in the context of an entire album, let alone a single song. Rabea what the hell are you doing man, where's your music?
The tubscreamer (or any of its clones) into a distorted amp imo is one of the most important pedals to get them tight metal toanz
i cant believe you guys left out the 5150 OD pedal, even after talking how the Diezel and Bogner pedals are supposed to emulate the sounds of their well known amps, the 5150 is probably top 3 of the most recognizable metal amps ever.
What happened to 3:04 - "at the end of this beautiful pedal arrangement we're going to say which one we preferred at the end what your personal favourite one was what my personal favourite one was"?
That V40 and VH4 pedal are a match made in heaven. The problem I had with the real life counterpart of the Pedal the VH4 was the cleans were not for me. But that clean of the V40 and that gain of that amazing VH4 pedal is perfect!
the Bogner Ecstasy Red is a great choice too
MXR all the way! But of course, you need to tweak it to your liking.
Interesting, but there are at least 4 pedals I'd consider before any of these (Suhr Riot, Wampler Dracarys, Friedman BE-OD, MXR 5150). And Joss needs a little less coffee before he starts shooting videos ;)
Rabea is a fucking superhero! (You rock Fro-bro!)
... Once I bought my MT-2 back many years ago... I never replaced it... I simply prefer the old school high gain metal sound. Everyone's got their favorite flavor.
Joss is a fantastic addition to the channel made me laugh a lot haha.
JOSS BOSS
Daniel Parry no
I disagree and I know I'm not alone.
People who have a negative opinion about somebody are usually labelled trolls.
You are not allowed to dislike things anymore.
djteac it's fine to express your opinions my dudes, but I think it's because people were attacking rob for the sake of it, it was non constructive criticism
Full 'Bore' Metal < DOD Thrash Master
There were tones from the Metal Zone that almost convinced me that it sounded decent. :O
The key to getting a good tone out of the MXR Fullbore Metal is you have to turn the highs almost all the way down. Don't turn the gain past 1 o'clock, and sweep the mids until you find your sound.
Joss has to post a shred tutorial on this channel
Not watched the video yet, but Bea and Joss together, OOOOSSHHHH!! 🤤
I thought they all sounded like crap (except the Diezel), especially the MXR ... until he found that setting near the end of the MXR demo when it suddenly grew a pair. That setting made it #1 for me.
My favorite Andertons video. Simple concept, well executed, fantastic playing, and very funny. More of the same, please!
The mxr actually hurt my ears
here's an idea, turn your volume down next time
I think they shouldve left the scoop turned off. I own a Fullbore, quite impressed but im looking for another.
@@widowmaker5544 Even with the volume down the highs on that thing were destroying my ears!
2:51
did he just...?
The only person who's allowed doing that is the one and the only EytschPi42!!!
J. J. All hail Henning!
because penis
Im so happy Joss is at Andertons now
That guys laugh at the beginning just kicked my ass lmao
The Fullbore metal sounds like a tin can
SonicGamer1991 ya I have one and I fucking hate it
Im looking at the Flux Drive or the Throttle Box from Mesa wish they featured those
You wrote "trve kvlt" wrong ^^
SonicGamer1991 .....with a bunch of bees in it
Yeah, maybe Lars could give it to James for a St. Anger 2 kind of album
Interesting that you said, you will say which one you liked the most and nothing.
It would have also been nice to see the MXR 5150 against these, but that's just my preference :)
This needs to become a series, the people have spoken
Totally enjoyed that one! Cool playing and some phenomenal sounding pedals. Looking forward to seeing the 2nd part featuring the Boss Metal pedal...that one sounds awesome, too!
I didn’t even know that there were other metal pedals, I mean you only need the metalzone
Bob Ross HM-2
Oo wait.. they choose fullbore metal over 5150? ... Why ....
Riff at 5:40 was sick AF 🤘🏻
My new favorite Anderton's Duo! More of Rabea and Joss, please!
