The people that say the mt-2 sucks are probably looking for a school book tone.... No tone sucks in the right context. Black metal and noise music proved that.

There's something instantly recognizable with the MT-2, I could identify it immediately. These compliment each other particularly well - in isolation the REVV sounded a bit too scooped, and the MT-2 a bit too harsh, but once blended they sounded really full. Very nice.

I have bought all these ‘niche’ pedals that have their place (eg Julia chorus), but when you want a great straight guitar effect Boss is always the best for 90 percent of what you might want to do. They generally won’t give you a Venetian, underwater, helium, love-fest sounds but nails everything else.

I managed to make it work even back when I was 15 years old and used it to rehearsals with my first band and that's the actuall trick-secret of the mt2. Once you put it in a band situation then you realize you need to find the way to tune it properly and you actually get the good tones it has in it.

Same here, I was 15 when I got mine (back in 2000). I played it through my little Peave Rage 15 W combo, and it sounded seriously good when I discovered that if Iplayed the amp on the gain channel with barely any distortion dialed in, it really ""warmed"" the tone of the pedal, and it sounded like a nice Marshall basically :) Nice mids and no buzzy fizzy high end.

I know which is which only because I have a Revv G3 and I know the sound. I usually just use the distortion on my 5150 III EL34 Head though. The Revv G3 is a lot more clear/cleaner and the Metal Zone has more of a solid state sounding high gain and sounds a bit more grating and has more highs. At least to my ears, I actually like really high gain though, so the Metal Zone is fine imo. You can get more dynamics out of the G3, that's the upside of lower gain. I have friends who prefer solid state amps and metal zones and I have friends who prefer tube amps, it's all just what you want your tone to be.

@@Ryan-kc5pl Are you using it on the blue crunch channel as an overdrive or as a distortion pedal on your green clean channel? I actually use it on a Peavey KB/A amp (totally clean solid state amp) as a distortion pedal with a splitter going to my 5150 III Before the pedal so I have 2 amps with 2 different distortions going at once. I don’t actually use it on my 5150 III, sorry if my comment was confusing or I miswrote it.

@@richardaaron4454 ahh, gotcha. I've literally tried it every which way. I think im just not a distortion pedal guy. Literally bought the g4 for farting around with during lockdown, lol

@@Ryan-kc5pl Yeah an overdrive on the blue channel or a distortion pedal on the green channel works but I never tried the Revv on my 5150, I only used it on a solid state Peavey as a distortion pedal. They sound cool together with a splitter but the 5150’s distortion can’t be topped, it’s amazing. An overdrive like a tube screamer (I use the Maxon OD-820 Pro or an Earthquaker Westwood overdrive) for the blue channel and it sounds really good but the overdrives don’t do anything at all on the red channel for me. I think I have my gain set at 2:00 - 2:30 position on the red channel and it sound so good for Metal. It also depends what guitar I’m using since all of them have different pickups but I’ve been using the ESP LTD Black Metal M which has a passive Seymour Duncan Blackened Black Winter pickup in it and setting the gain at about 2:30.

@@Ryan-kc5pl those Revv pedals aren’t very high gain imo. It sounds good in a mix though with my pedal on a solid state clean channel and my 5150’s distortion with my splitter before the pedal.

    Total different sounds to me.
Metal Zone sounds very clear like digital device and the Revv sounds more rough full and powerful like analog, but without high ends of course
Combine both and we get best of both worlds……. Very interesting.
    Thanks for the video

The Behringer UM300 is a pretty decent pedal for the price , 20 quid brand new . You should do a demo on that . A lot of people have to get cheap guitar amp and pedals off ebay and that's a good starter imo .

Metal Zone actually works and sounds pretty decent as a preamp pedal either connected into a power amp/effects loop of an amp or in some similar fashion, like straight into IR box with the amp/cab simulation (the way that I use it).

i dont even really know how to evaluate metal tones as i dont quite understand it.
its funny because you metal players seem to like this tight super compressed tone, which i think im starting to realise is the polar opposite of what i look for, a warm fat creamy midrange tone just on the edge of breaking up. Not judging, but im recording a metal band later this month so trying to 'get' the style

The metal zone made itself quite obvious. But I like the pedal, it sounds as a boost for a driven JCM800. Never played the revv but it seems to sound much more "amp-like", which is great but it's of course the last thing I would want from a metal zone. The HM2 and Metal Zone are (both in their own way) great at adding some raw 90's buzzsaw to the sweet sound of any amp that sounds too "noble" on its own. A tube amp wont sound like that on its own, but without the tube amp something's missing too.
