  • Some people get into driveaway without a tow car. Then, somewhere down the line, they get tired of all the expenses associated with not having a tow car and using public transportation. This video is for these people. I hope to give you an idea of what you will need to outfit a car with the right equipment for driveaway.
    Here is where you can get a baseplate and a new towbar. etrailer.com
    Here is where you can get the equipment to connect to the truck. t1fabrication.com
    You can also find used tow bars on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and the Driveaway Forums on Facebook.

    Still using this setup? I just bought a focus for this. Looking for all the tow accessories.

      Yes, still using the Focus but it's getting old. Looking for a long bed Colorado now in a 4x4 with a V6. You can find the baseplate at etrailer.com, the tow bar you can buy used on FB marketplace and the hitches for the trucks can be found at Tier1 Fabrication t1fabrication.com

    Hey Don
    I like your videos BUT those of us who have tow cars make up a small percentage of drive away men. That makes us valuable to the companies we work for. Maybe we should not show too many people how to do this. It has drawbacks and lots of things can go wrong unless you really understand how this works. Not for just anyone. Keep up the good work!

    • @DrivingWithDon
      @DrivingWithDon  Год назад +1

      I've thought about that Mark. But the turnover is so large in driveaway, plus there are some who just won't make money no matter what. Then others are convinced that having a tow car is more of a liability than using public transportation.

    • @markbirchall2060
      @markbirchall2060 Год назад +1

      @@DrivingWithDon Yes the turnover is high. We dont make the big money because most companies make us pay for some or all of the fuel. I picked up a TADC in Chilicothe OH last month. It was new so it was also empty on fuel. It got a 5 to7 mpg at best. By the time I delivered that truck I put $300 in fuel in it!! So in 2 days I made about $200. Pretty sad that these companies are basically trying to force us to run for almost nothing. Without my tow car, I would go in the hole.

      I wont take a new truck anymore that is going to be a mixer or dump truck. They are geared way low and will bust your butt and break your wallet. Most have only leaf springs and with no weight on them its almost impossible to steer on rough roads.!!!! If Im going to be asked to move them, I want a lot more $$$ !!. Drivers need to make these things known to the companies who think a "truck is a truck".

    I'm still confused. I need a setup to tow my personal vehicle when I need to take semi truck to the shop. Its a 2019 Silverado and it has tow hooks built in from the factory. What do I need?

    • @DrivingWithDon
      @DrivingWithDon  10 месяцев назад

      Those tow hooks on the front of your Silverado are just for pulling you out of places you get stuck in. Not for transporting it. You can find all the equipment you need at t1fabrication.com It may be a little pricey just to take your truck to the shop though. Also, make sure you know the weight of your pickup and match that to the tow equipment you buy for it.

    Google, eBay, and marketplace don’t recognize pinch hitch

    • @DrivingWithDon
      @DrivingWithDon  7 месяцев назад

      You can find them here t1fabrication.com/clamp-on-style They go by other names as well such as Frame Rail Hitch, Clamp On Hitch. I imagine why those places don't recognize them is because they are such a small niche and rarely searched for.
