His height was not important, his heart was. My mother is 5'2, I am 5'9. when it comes to Prince's height? A small man can cast a very large shadow and he did.
From what I read, people who met Prince were jarred by his size not because of his height but due to his overall small frame. He was petite all the way around which people were definitely not accustomed to seeing in a man.
I find his height of interest only because it in part made him who he was. Growing up as a kid, he clearly had it rougher than many others: he was given a stupid first name which he never used (little did he know!) and was short so he probably got picked on and ridiculed, if not bullied; reportedly had seizures as a young child; his parents washed their hands of him when he was a young teen and left him homeless; he didn’t grow into his striking looks until young adulthood. Although truly gifted, I imagine it was his need for self validation that drove him to become Prince. And as all of us know, those insecurities from childhood never really leave us. There was a profound sadness about Prince that he expressed in his music, and could not escape in his adult life. His height may not have mattered to us, but I bet it mattered to him despite everything he became.
I tend to agree with you Susan. I believe it mattered to him more than it mattered to the general audience. Still, quite a few people who met with him for the first time in person did mention that his height was much shorter than they’d even imagined. The heels also play an important role. Heels for men were not uncommon in the late 70s but Prince stuck with them his entire life and it became his signature and sign of uniqueness, courage and originality. The heels also concealed his shortness to some extent so after a few years it became probably no longer an option not to use them (in later attire, the heels were often covered and hardly visible, hence only having an elevating function). The sad irony is that those same heels that gave his body some elevation, wore down his hips and body much quicker and probably contributed to the need to use strong painkillers, which eventually caused his tragic death. Maybe it’s too far fetched to relate all of this with body height, but it’s not all so unlikely that it did play an important role. See for example the story told by Bobby Shriver on this extremely interesting page: www.google.com/amp/s/www.gq.com/story/prince-stories/amp Bobby Shriver (philanthropist; was executive producer of the Special Olympics broadcast when Prince played at the 1991 opening ceremony): The party [afterward] at Paisley, that was quite a scene. When he came out of the elevator that night, I happened to be standing with the great Warren Beatty. He came over and Warren said, "I love your music," and he said, "I love your movies," and then Warren says, "Here we are! At your house! It's great!" And Prince goes, "Yeah. Yeah, it is. But I'm still short." It wasn't really a joke. It was kind of poignant. He didn't laugh-he just observed the fact of the matter. He happened to be talking to relatively tall fellas-I'm six-one, I think Warren is six-two. Having a nice conversation. And despite all that, and despite playing at the Special Olympics, and despite his own brilliance, and despite whatever, he still, standing with us, experienced what he must've experienced his whole life. I said, "Oh, come on, man." I tried to make it into a little joke-I think he laughed a little bit, but it was obviously a serious thing for him. I thought, "Wow."
maybe im focusing on just the tiniest detail thats has nothing to do with the topic but i've read written interviews abt him and im wildly surprised at how well he treated his father, john nelson even after such cruel treatment in his early life. he bought his father clothes, and he found an old piano in sunset records and bought it expressly for his father to own. its very poignant for me to think about that someone so badly treated still tries his best to support/love a hateful parent figure. and no. his height diminished nothing about him as a person or his talent, it sort of made me think how interesting it is that someone so attractive can come in a small size and beauty really do be coming in all sorts of differences
This is so true. Malignant Narcissism is rife in Minnesota. Everywhere. But it is a mistake to think he was unique in having abusive and negatavistic parents. Here, it is the norm. And covered up and denied with smiles and good clothes. It is a funny place, and draws it’s inhabitants back like a bad toxic family. Bullying and toxicity, if endured for decades erodes all boundaries, and to face the reality you have always been alone with no-one having your back creates an overwhelming need to believe you can do and say things to get that seldom seen glimmer of love so you can feel normal and like you belong in this world. Evil is real in human form. Believe it and quietly walk away. I always wished he had finally washed his hands of his rejecting parents and moved to a castle in Spain or Italy. Minnesota did not really deserve to have such a special resident. They are all about snide remarks and stiff-arming others. He made it seem cool because he deeply wanted it to be true. Denial is a very cold companion. Rest in glory… and when I go, I only want to have him greet me and show me around. And in the next world there won’t be any more pain. ✌🏾🧖🏾♂️🌧☔️☂️💜💜💜
It was something that publications and interviews always pointed out and made fun of. Later in his life, he transcended that. People were mostly respectful and in awe of him. It’s something people need to point out now that regardless of his height or color of his skin or way he dressed or sexuality, he was strong enough not to bend or waiver and still become an icon. Instead he made everyone else waiver and not only accept and respect him, but bow down to him.
exactly! It's always something brought up, though not so much near the end of his life you are correct there. But just "Prince was short" is such a big piece of pop culture information, but I don't understand WHY!!!! lol
Prince was 5'3" according to the coroners report. No, his height was not a drawback. I think people were amazed at his larger than life persona, his "cocky" (I say confident) strut & his ability to command all he touched. I think his height/build were perfect. His body was really sexy & he knew it! PRINCELUV4EVER!!!😉😍😄😍😙😉
The coroner's report says 5 3? How come every other resource is wrong? geez, the frickin internet. I checked and double checked. lol. But yeah, he was larger than life in perception... I think that's a big part of it.
@@PrincesFriend it reminds me of the misconceptions'we have of "stars" in forgetting they're only human too. Money & fame changes their reality, as we think sometimes they don't live in the real world. However, when real issues come they feel it too. Due to the internet/social media we THINK we see them all the time & know everything about them. In the end, Prince was Extraordinarily Gifted & brought decades of Joy to millions, but still had a time limit. I remember when MJ passed 10 years ago this June & I heard (coroners report) he really did have vitiligo when most thought he just wanted to look white. Also, I never knew he had broken his leg sometime in his life because again we think we see them all the time.
Height isn't constant. The spine decompresses when you lie flat for long periods. Some people are over half an inch shorter at the end of the day because of gravity and fluids leaving the spine, and you lose a good bit of that height during the first hour after getting up!
i think he should be a role model for smaller framed and shorter men. bcoz heightism is a REAL THING in the world regardless of where you are. i used to be that idiot who thought only tall men count until the day i actually met a guy who was shorter than me but nevertheless just as attractive as a regular/tall men. i'd say he's even more attractive, as if God is compensating him for his height on other attributes. so when i saw P's physicality, it instantly reminded me to that guy and that it never mattered at all to us who came to love P as he is
With the amount of talent Prince had I overlooked his height. It didn’t matter to me at all. Prince was blessed with so much and what matters is what’s inside. He was a beautiful person inside and out. Beautiful soul.
Prince's height was NEVER an issue for me. As a matter of fact, it never crossed my mind to wonder, think, or find out his height. Many, many years after I fell totally head over heels for him, someone mentioned his height, and it never changed anything. The man was larger than life and when someone is as BEAUTIFUL, SUPER SEXXXXY, and quite the GENIUS he was, the last thing that matters, or one pays attention to is height. It certainly didn't get on the way of him dating extremely beautiful women......
I've always said it was so amazing how much sound came out of such a small guy!!💜..he seemed larger than life, which made u forget his height! However, can u imagine him in heels, and doin splits, jumpin off risers..etc..and being 6 ft tall?? 😂, he definitely worked what he had ..well💜✌
“This is for why I wasn’t born like my brother handsome and tall.” I think it bothered him at some point in his life, but in the end, it didn’t matter. He showed everyone that it was the swagger that made him one of the most desired men ever.
It really breaks my heart that he didn't see how handsome, not just handsome, outright gorgeus he was. People really need to stop with the tall=handsome bullshit.
Don’t know why the height is so important to people. I love him no matter how tall or low he was. He had perfect proportions and looked very fit all through his life. Love the little big man to death 💜💜💜❤️
Which unfortunately includes a lot more people than you would be comfortable with. Being on the shorter side myself, I bet that his height made him that much more aware of the obstacles that he would have to overcome in his life. People will doubt you and make personal attacks against you when you are this short, believe me. This isn't just something that is easily overlooked for an average person. That is one of many reasons why Prince is such an inspiration to so many people. RIP.
An exquisite man who was “always” in athletic shape, except for frailty prior to transitioning. God made us different and perhaps this originality not only made him be noticed, but also challenged him to be self confident.... and the rest is history💜
I remember reading somewhere that Prince wore heels 'not to be taller but because the ladies like 'em'... something to that effect. He did mention his stature in song, though...'Come on back, come on back to your little man' (Pink Cashmere). Also that he was bullied about his height. (Oprah interview, I believe). Then there's 'Darker than quicksand, taller than a tree' (Come On); 'This is for my brother, handsome and tall' (Lady Cab Driver). Possible sensitivities from his basketball days? After all he had accomplished, I don't think it was an issue in his later life - we all come terms with stuff as we mature but who knows? Personally, it was a non-issue for me. He had perfect proportions and his aura was/is huge. The man was and still is a giant, imho.
Yes I remember reading that same book or paper there was a lovely Sexy pic of prince sitting down With his legs crossed super sexy Mary caffrey Dublin Ireland
First time I saw him was in a stadium show from the opposite side of the oval. But when he came up he filled the stadium. He hit our last upper ring with no problem.
Good morning Prince's Friend. I never trip on how tall or short someone is. Actually I didn't trip on Prince dressing in bikini briefs, high heels and a trench coat. I was young but I realized that the music was more important than how he dressed. People missed the Funk for paying attention to what he wore. Sad. If you're short you're short, if you're tall you're tall, big deal. People are more than their height and their weight. Look at Prince 😉
Before the internet, everyone looked taller, especially on screen. I think Prince wore taller heels than you stated, but in reality it was his personality that was so huge, which made him "look" taller, even after you found out his real height. 💜
Yeah I agree on the heels issue. I saw several of his original, worn shoes up on the auction block, and they were three and three and a half inches in height.
In centimeters, that we use in Italy (and in Europe) He was tall only 158 cm, less than me. But He was the most beautiful and sexy man in the world! You said that His height was right for Him. True! On the stage He was a giant, the best performer ever! I love Him for everything He was and did. Prince forever in my mind! Thank you, Mr. Prince's Friend.
Prince was taller than Danny DeVito, but still like Danny, Prince faced heightism prejudice. I remember the press calling him "pint-sized Prince", and in 2002 Kevin Smith mocked Prince's height, claiming Paisley Park employees bought his clothes from the Nordstrom's boys department, but actually Prince's clothes were designed according to Prince's drawn instructions and custom-made for him by Helen Hiatt, Stacia Lang, Versace, Debbie McGuan, Lori Marcuz and Cathy Robinson. One of the other things that made Prince unique and amazing for his height is he was even a basketball player.
Lol I'm sure what Kevin said was a joke. It's so sad that he got kinda hurt by it and insecure by it, too but I still love him no matter what height he was.
As for the question about why people care about celebrity heights. I think because celebs seem so majestic and out of this world. So a lot of them have this image of perfect body and beautiful or handsome etc. And to a lot of people that means tall too unfortunately.
Prince made being small cool. His personality made him larger than life, so when you hear of his height it's shocking. Being short made it possible for him to do some of his dance moves. I am 5'5 and would like and say I was shorter. I am into short woman and I'm not saying it's because of Prince, but he did influence my thoughts of height with myself and my women choices.
I've always known Prince was 5'2" and never cared. I am 5'7" and usually wear 4 or 5 inch heels and would've stood proudly by his side. Funny, all the concerts I went to he NEVER seemed short or small. He truly was larger than life. 💜💜💜
People are obsessed with Princess height because he's a giant on stage and he naturally looks like he's 5' 8" especially during the 1999 Purple Rain era the trench coat just makes him look tall and I'm sure that was intentional. I wish you had included the height of the Revolution members and NPG and members
@@BlunderCity False. It's just that being tall makes it easier to be slim/athletic and short men tend to be stout/stocky, which is the ugly part. Prince proved that most women dont give shit anout heigh as long as he's handsome and watches his diet.
@@intellectualrebel5340 Yeah you're right, let's throw away every piece of research ever done on the subject and let's trust our instincts. What could possibly go wrong?
Its interesting you brought this up, Prince's Friend. When I was first getting into Prince's music heavy 23 years ago? It was around the time that he and Mayte did that TV interview with Oprah at Paisley Park. She herself asked Prince about being bullied because of his height. He spoke of recent analysis he'd had finding that he had a divided, non gendered personality. And that bullying might've been what manifested that divided self. Also in the song "Lady Cab Driver"? Prince sang of his brother "handsome and tall". Presumed that to refer to his deeply athletic half brother (later one of his body guards) Dwayne. So the notion of Prince's height, just in his case, always seemed like one of many internal aspects of his life and career. So if others talked about it with me? Just chalked it up to Prince having that be a part of his own legacy to a degree-on different levels.
Obviously height has nothing to do with talent or the content of one's character. However, how a celebrity treats their height can be revealing. Often times when two actors of differing heights work together, one of them has to stand on a box to facilitate easier camera angles. Sometimes it's the director who calls for this, but a lot of the time, it's a male actor who is insecure about being shorter than a woman. In fact, many taller female actresses have a hard time finding work; either casting directors/studios/producers want an actress shorter than the male lead, or the male lead actor demands one. When taller women do get cast, it's often as villains. This gets especially weird when it comes to celebrity height issues outside of the set. Supposedly, Tom Cruise (5' 5") always wears lifts in his shoes when he makes appearances, and during both his weddings to Nicole Kidman (5' 11") and Katie Holmes (5' 9"), the floor at the alter was crafted with a subtle trench on the bride's side. An argument could be made that it was just to get better wedding photos, but come on, dude. Just lean into it. The Little People of America, the largest advocacy group for little persons in the USA, accepts anyone 4' 10'' and under. I personally find celebrity height more interesting the closer it gets to that border, such as Kristen Chenoweth (4' 11"). When it comes to Prince, I do think he was a little insecure about his height. He nearly always wore heels, and pretty damn high ones, at that. We've all heard stories about him playing basketball, but how many pics been released of him in sneakers? According to Kevin Smith, Prince's people bought his clothes in the Nordstrom boy's department. Hell, I've always held the theory that the whole reason for his beef with MJ was just to make sure they were never photographed standing next to each other. Prince's height is a topic of discussion because of 1) its clear he's on the short side, and 2) he never acknowledged it in any way. If he had done like Kevin Hart and cracked a few short jokes, we'd all move on. But he didn't. He was an unbelievably talented artist, he changed popular culture forever, and he bedded any woman he looked at. And he spent his whole career trying to make everyone think he was a few inches taller.
He was 5' 2". The pressure on the spinal cord is released after death, so the measurement of 5' 3" is inaccurate. Mayte stated he was 5' 2", 2" shorter than her. Prince's height was never surprising to me, but his delicate, fine bone structure was. Definitely a pretty man. 💜🌟Warren Beatty and Bobby Schriver were once visiting PP and Bobby quoted Prince remarking (you can look it up in a GQ article about Prince's Friends), in response to their complimenting the "scene" at Paisley: "yeah, but I'm short." Both Bobby & Warren are over 6 feet, but they were shocked that such a mega talent wasn't joking about feeling insecure over something mundane.A lot of folks still put down short men...not Prince fans, but I routinely hear students name calling short dudes.😪 Prince was bullied for his height, skin color, and first name growing up in Minnie. I remember Madge & Boy George attacking Prince's height. Asswipes.
Don't really matter cause he was 6ft tall when he was performing. Besides, he still was taller than me. I'm 4'11 and 1/2. ....... yeah, I claim the 1/2 so there😌
I once saw him in a small club, circa late 1990’s in Hong Kong, jamming with some local talent in the wee hours, as it were. Sometimes during the jam, i would lose sight of him as he would slip out of sight, just behind a tea cup. I told you the club was small.
What he lacked in height he more that made up for in talent. Plus, according to many, he could ball like a beast! I vaguely remember talk of PRN changing his name to Napoleon? Who was know for being a powerful man of a smaller stature. Always thought it Funny, as in 'Napoleon and the French Revolution' RIP Peter Mayhew
Well, my first Prince concert was his 1999 World Tour in Gary, Indiana at the Genesis Convention Center on Nov. 19th, 1982, it was incredible, but one topic was "I didn't know Prince was so short." Folks were saying I thought he was tall from the sound of his voice. Not me, I was amazed by his stage performance and presence.
Since most of us do not get to see celebrities in person, we are always curious about how they look in person and what their character was like. On camera, it puts extra weight on people, and a lot of times you cannot accurately tell what height they are. I believe that is a major reason as why people are curious about celebrity height. Because a lot of people have crushes or hate certain celebs, height always comes into question. Many women prefer men taller then themselves. Many men want to be taller then their girlfriend. Many tall people believe they can take a short person in a fight. Many short people want another short person to relate to. Also many in the human psyche believe that taller men possess some natural ability to be great. Prince presented a bunch of unique dynamics. He was very talented musician, songwriter, and dancer. Had his own unique style. Had a very dominating live stage presence (like Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley, Tupac). His speaking voice, was kind of deep and had a lean physique. One would assume that he had to be like 5'10, but was surprisingly 5'2. Prince was also known as a control freak, so some would say that he had a Napoleon Complex. I'm 5'5, and have had several mixed emotions about my height. I was always one of the shortest males in school and work. In school, the tall bullies thought they could mess with you. At work, taller managers, coworkers and clients think their can intimidate you. In my both sides of my family, they would always measure my cousins and I about our height. I stopped growing after awhile, and they continued to grow. My younger brother surpassed me in height. My childhood best friend past me in height. As for the females, been rejected numerous times by women (many shorter then me) who said that height was a factor. Women that I have dated and been in relationships with, have said they preferred taller men. Sometimes when I see men that I'm taller then, makes me smile and say "I'm glad I'm not you." So I do have some insecurities (I wear certain footwear to give me extra height). Hell, I like to playfully tease short women as a form of revenge. Also because I have a very deep voice, it usually surprises people that its coming from me. They assume that I would be high pitched and squeaky. I been compared to a chihuahua with the bark of a mastiff. Prince presents a victory for all us short guys, to live through vicariously, and any other successful short men.
Okay I have complex answers to this. The reason why I'm interested in Prince's height it's because he was clearly sensitive about his height. That's why he wore the heels, that's why most of the women with him were always in flats, stuff like that. The only reason I'm interested in his height is because he seemed sensitive about it, and the reason that interest me is because it gives greater insight into things that may have shaped him and his worldview. Straying a little farther into speculation, it has long been speculated that the years and years and hours and hours of grueling, physically demanding concerts he put on in heels is what caused damage to his body, which is what caused his chronic pain, which ultimately may have been what caused his death. I don't know if you've ever worn heels, but I've worn them for years. And it leads to some problems with your back, with your knees, and a whole host of other things. So to sum up, I am not generally obsessed with celebrity height. But I think it's an arguable fact that Prince was with his own, and that that has led to things which we have been discussing for the last three years.
I am of the same opinion, see my reply to Susan Clark’s comment. Body height relates to heels, causing body damage, painkillers and the tragic passing. Quite possibly all related.
Per the autopsy Prince was 5'3" tall. While I do not think it is important to who he was as a performer, I think it important if it is quoted to do so accurately now that accurate information is available. I also think his height was somewhat of an issue to him as a man. He was quoted more than once as addressing it...once to one of his sisters and once to 2 ballplayers who were attending a function at PP. I think it bothered him to a degree especially as a young man and may have served to shape some of his risk taking behaviors. Those risks created an amazing performer...but may also have contributed to our early loss of him. I miss him dearly!😢
Yes! I tried to say the same thing in my direct reply to the video. Prince was obviously concerned about his own height. There is overwhelming evidence to back this up. And all of our insecurities shape who we are, and therein lies my interest.
I know for me (being 6'2") I'm always fascinated when large personas come out of small packages. Pink and Gaga both draw this same fascination for me since both are around Prince's height. It's just amazing when I think about how small they are in stature, but how big their reach is and how do pipes that small belt it out like they do. That's just my take on it. It's not really about making fun of them, it's more from the angle of being awestruck.
Lady Gaga's also short? Would never think about, she looks tall in videos, but then again, Prince also looks majestic in videos, but still totaly perfect otherwise.
I could have been. I never heard him talk about his height or why he wore the heels. have you? I'd love to hear a quote or two of him talking about it?
@@PrincesFriend he seemed confident, but at the same time, he's kinda like me. Insecure and all that. Well, everybody is and that's okay. I'm insecure about my height , too. 5,1 btw.
The internet says Vanity, Apples and Mayte were like 5'6, and Nona Gay was like 5'9. Demaris, though she says they were platonic, was a sports illustrated model and like 5'9 or so as well. And in my opinion, Mayte wasnt all that skinny. She had delicious meat. Lol. I dont know how correct that all is.
Vanity was not 5’6"; she was very petite, which kept her out of major modeling gigs. She spoke briefly about this in one of her televised interviews from the 80s.
@@LMichelle_bklyn88 yeah - I didnt say it - it was on the internet, and I think I qualified it by if the internet was correct. Its wrong about a lot of stuff. I dont even know why I fell into the stupid trap. I dont really give a f....k 😂😂😂 I must have been in a crazy mood. I am glad it has passed. Whew. But the point still is they werent all skinny or petite or white or brown or black, or mixed or tall or short or straight hair or afro or curly. Lol. He liked them all, as he said. 💜 Purple love. 😏
screen perception makes all talents appear to be similar in height is why we are fascinated by their true height as a way of appreciating the real human element of a celebrity
Prince is was more like 5’0 without heels and his head was very large for his body - out of proportion- almost like someone with dwarfism. You would have to be close to him to perceive this. I met him back when he was getting started around 1979-1980.
I do admit that when I found out Prince was 5'2 per say I was in disbelief because his large then life image we may have of him. Yet! I found it to be kind of cute (it fits his persona) and never thought nothing of it compared to his genius status. I loved prince for all his positive ties and earthiness. Great piece on his legacy.
I went I know right! Just when I saw the title! Lol. I never went “ Man Prince was/is short” I do go “ What a talent “ thou. Turly I believe Prince was made the way he should ve. Been. Think about it, if he was tall he might have focused more on basketball of something. I’am sure it sucked being short as a kid, but when he realized who he was, that was it. My favorite line in pink cashmere is when he says “ Come home to your little man” because I was like “ Yes Prince , own your height” . He was 5’2(I thought 5’3 originally) the perfect height for him.
I’m 6.4” and after once seeing Prince in person I wasn’t prepared for how petite he seemed, especially by comparison. I’ve thought about this a bit and I suppose the reason it’s a thing that interests people is because we are usually exposed to artists on video or photographs and their stature is often exaggerated in those mediums. Also I’ve heard it said that considerable height differences outside of the average can affect motivation and drive. Perhaps Prince is an example of someone who’s height pushed him to be better at his art so to draw attention away from his physicality. Assuming that he was unhappy being below average stature?
I think he was loved & anything Prince was noted! I don't think it mattered to any admirer of Prince? What is height, just a number, irrelevant! He was a Giant in the Industry & that was all that mattered, RIP Prince!
I assumed Prince was regular size, like about 5' 8" or so. There was an optical illusion when he was onstage. He just felt bigger psychically for some weird reason, maybe because the music was so intense. I can't explain it. I do know when I realized his real height I was totally shocked. I realized it made little difference to me. I think it bothered him alot though. The heels seem to accentuate it after I really looked at him.
I think you hit on it...Prince was bigger than life on stage... so it seems shocking to some that he was smaller. Of course it doesn't matter a lick, he was the baddest man to ever live.
I liked him more because he was short, it made him unique. Short people, maybe especially men, have something to prove to the world. And he certainly excelled at that. My mom is now about 4 foot eight and nobody messed with her, and I’m 5’ 7” and a total pushover LOL
I just LOVE this channel. So informative. Thank you for all you do. Height doesn't matter to me. Prince was perfect. In every way possible. Through my eyes............

PRINCE reminds me very much of BRUCE LEE. ....He was ALWAYS the biggest person in the room. Both where trailblazers in their fields. Both were very confident and self assured and despite being physically small they were head and shoulders above everyone else. ...Nobody told them what to do.
on a personal note, i think his height only makes him more adorable. I am actually the same height as he is :D. You are absolutely right! Once he's onstage, he is larger than life! People loved to gossip, and people loved to make assumptions. they tried to figure him out from what he looked like. "oh he's in heels and he's short so it must be a big thing for him". Same went with what they thought of his outfit style "oh he dresses so feminine so he must be gay". - reminds me of the time he even poked fun of these assumptions in his early years. People that actually liked Prince would rather try to find out what his favorite desert or past-time activity is rather than the height or shoe size methinks. Now that you mentioned it, you're right, it does seem like everyone is asking and talking too much about it. I remember i read and watched facts about Prince and the first things they said was " he was short" 9_9
I'm coming at it from a perspective in that I was 4 foot 10 and a half at age 16. I ended up growing to 5 foot 10. My teenage years I was height obsessed and had a complex about my height when I was short. In my opinion one of the biggest things that drove Prince to become successful was his height. Prince loved to play basketball and that is a sport in which height gives you a great advantage. I was the same in that I love sports mine was more football though but the sentiment is the same. I so much hated being short!!! Another area where it was terrible is when it came to the ladies. I was always described as cute like a little boy. I was never handsome or fine-looking. That was a blow to my self-esteem. It made me obsessed with going in the gym and working out. Made me with obsessed with always trying to be the best at everything. Weird part is when I grew to 510 eventually I kind of got lazy I kept up with the workouts in the gym but other things in life I was a little bit less competitive as it was easy for me to compete. Also to me Prince's height kind of adds to his Mystique in an air of mysteriousness. He's kind of like a magical Elf or something. I don't mean that to be funny or anyting or make fun of him I kind of mean that in a serious way. I actually think that if he was normal height he wouldn't have the same mystery about him. At least in my viewpoint. One thing I think is quite incredible is obviously he had small hands to go with a small body size making it little bit harder to play musical instruments such as guitar and keyboards but didn't seem to hold him back. One can only Wonder how much better he would have been had he had been normal height with normal hand size. Another thing that I believe affected is complex about his height was the fact that his brother Dwayne was pretty tall and also he lived in Minneapolis where there is a lot of people of Nordic background and a lot of tall people as Nordic people are some of the tallest people on average in the world... Unfortunately I know a lot about height statistics...
I never cared about his height. His music and overall persona was my focus. He was a compact man who didn't allow his size to hinder his ability. That's why we celebrate him to this day.
Prince was absolutely perfect the way he was! His height was perfect 4 me when we were 2gether. He's actually 2 inches taller than me so it made it perfect. God made him absolutely perfectly!💜 Prince's height should never matter!. His body was absolutely gorgeous and proportioned the way it should be. In my opinion he'd just not look the same or b as sexy if he was taller. 😍😛💜
I think Prince's heels were higher than 2 inches unless you are referring to the wedged heels he wore later in his career. So if Prince was 5 feet 2 inches and he wore 3 or 4 inch heels, he would appear to be 5'5" or 5'6". I think the coroner's report, or autopsy report indicated Prince was 5'3" which would make him as tall as 5'7" in his heels. I agree an unusual amount of attention is given to Prince's height even though there are many others as short as him and nobody seems to care. I think people are stunned by his true height because Prince camouflaged his height by wearing the high heels and had clothing specially designed and tailored to give the illusion of more height and arm length. His body also gave the illusion of height being he had a trim, sleek, lithe, often bejeweled bared torso. Also, the way he posed for photos usually made the females accompanying him appear taller.
Totally. I’m sure it wore different shoes lol. And I never read the coronor’s report and the majority of online resources have him listed st 5’2” so that what I went with. Lol. But yeah, in the end, it doesn’t really matter. Lol.
He was definitely blessed beyond measure! Height had nothing to do with it. Nothing compares to him! Much love and respect to him always! Miss you so much Prince!
I think that’s actually kinda cool. I’m 6’5 myself but admire princes attitude. He was short but an amazing talent and had a lot of confidence so people didn’t care.
I always thought that it added to his awesome purpleness. When I met him, I towered over him. I'm 6' 2"... but that didn't matter, because I was so starstruck that I smiled like a fool!! When I met him again years later, he remembered me!! I couldn't believe it.
I am a huge Prince fan and it wasn't till a few days ago that I found out about his height and it shocked me. I always thought he was a very tall man that was intimidating and to find out that he was 5'2 was so unreal for me cause he had it all. He had style and grace and above all he had presence!!! All these thing s are typically associated with a person with a larger stature but he had it in his creativity and his showmanship and that was easily taller than his actual height!!!
It's important in terms of his personality, in things such as his big-dog-in-a-little-body/Napoleon complex, as well as how he was bullied as a child because of it, even after they saw he could hoop. It's also important in the sense that it seems that the shorter and lighter a person is, the easier it is to do the splits, at least completely (which means to get back up after you go down). The tallest one I ever saw do this, outside of drag queens, is Terrence Trent D'Arby, and I appreciated seeing it, but it just didn't have the same energy.
I'm 5'0" and I think Prince should be a symbol of short people pride. I consider him as a true giant! 💜
Prince was larger than life. He was my height with no heels. His height was never an issue with me.
@BlackSoul98 true.
God made Prince the way he wanted and dominated everybody
His height was not important, his heart was. My mother is 5'2, I am 5'9. when it comes to Prince's height? A small man can cast a very large shadow and he did.
Pamela Fowler agree
Pamela, that was perfectly said. 💜
words of wisdom..
From what I read, people who met Prince were jarred by his size not because of his height but due to his overall small frame. He was petite all the way around which people were definitely not accustomed to seeing in a man.
BORING!!!!😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴
Ikr almost knocked the hell out with such boring story lol
Prince was a small sized man who walked Tall!!! He was a Giant onstage!!!! RIP Great One!!!
You are so right
Tall is synonymous for better and good?
Wow very interesting
See for example the story told by Bobby Shriver on this extremely interesting page: www.google.com/amp/s/www.gq.com/story/prince-stories/amp
Bobby Shriver (philanthropist; was executive producer of the Special Olympics broadcast when Prince played at the 1991 opening ceremony): The party [afterward] at Paisley, that was quite a scene.
I agree and so did he. Hence the song, 'Pretty Little Man'
Height isn't constant. The spine decompresses when you lie flat for long periods. Some people are over half an inch shorter at the end of the day because of gravity and fluids leaving the spine, and you lose a good bit of that height during the first hour after getting up!
i think he should be a role model for smaller framed and shorter men. bcoz heightism is a REAL THING in the world regardless of where you are. i used to be that idiot who thought only tall men count until the day i actually met a guy who was shorter than me but nevertheless just as attractive as a regular/tall men. i'd say he's even more attractive, as if God is compensating him for his height on other attributes. so when i saw P's physicality, it instantly reminded me to that guy and that it never mattered at all to us who came to love P as he is
If he’s short or tall, he will still and always be the greatest musician ever, doesn’t matter about his height it’s about his legacy.❤️❤️🎸☔️💜💜👏🏽
It didn't matter...he was still a the bomb... doing the things he did he couldn't be much taller he was the perfect size to do what he did
It had to be that way!
Salma Hayek and Prince would have made a sexy couple.
....yes... that WOULD have been awesome....Gosh, I really miss him 💔💜💜💜💜
No! It'd been nice to have seen him with a black woman. Janelle Monae'.
I know he had hoop dreams. His height directed him to his true calling, *MUSIC* .
Being the same height its definitely inspiring and gives confidence that your the same height as a genius lol
Not important. But being 'short's I wear it like a badge of honor that Prince was short too🤣
honestly, I must have grown up around mutants, because even at 5 7 I've always felt short. lol
@@PrincesFriend lol. I am 5'7+ and I wear heels. Everyone thinks I am tall. I love my "tallness". Most people I know are about 5'5 - 5'6.
EVERY musician looks UP 2 Prince!😉...Plus he's a HUGE inspiration 2 short people!
With the amount of talent Prince had I overlooked his height. It didn’t matter to me at all. Prince was blessed with so much and what matters is what’s inside. He was a beautiful person inside and out. Beautiful soul.
I never gave it any thought! He was perfect. Thankyou for sharing. Your awesome as always.
Arleen J Tobar-blanco I agree! Me too. Fell head over heels. I think Prince in his heels is the sexiest thing I've ever seen!
@Black Recluse It's not fame, it's how damn beautiful and genious he is.
I've always said it was so amazing how much sound came out of such a small guy!!💜..he seemed larger than life, which made u forget his height! However, can u imagine him in heels, and doin splits, jumpin off risers..etc..and being 6 ft tall?? 😂, he definitely worked what he had ..well💜✌
I’m 5’3 so prince’s height gave me confidence in how tall I am :)
he spoke to so many people in so many different ways
Me 2, I guess that's why it's important
Yeah. Whenever I feel insecure about my height, I always think about him. 😊
You must be taller now I’m 5’3 and a half and I’m 19
Does matter. He was lager then life. He will always be in my heart.
“This is for why I wasn’t born like my brother handsome and tall.”
I think it bothered him at some point in his life, but in the end, it didn’t matter.
Truth!
Size only matters for the insecure ones who loves putting people down.
RIP.
@@Teki420 not just that -- but every time you're successful it gets pinned on "oh they're compensating for being short".
An exquisite man who was “always” in athletic shape, except for frailty prior to transitioning. God made us different and perhaps this originality not only made him be noticed, but also challenged him to be self confident.... and the rest is history💜
I never thought about Prince's height. I've always been wowed by how sexy he was and love his musical talent.
Thought he wore 5 inch heels.
He mentioned it in a song more than once, where he explicitly referred to himself as 'small', 'short', or 'little'. I forgot what other song though.
Yes I remember reading that same book or paper there was a lovely
Sexy pic of prince sitting down
With his legs crossed super sexy
Mary caffrey Dublin Ireland
Lets just say it doesn't matter how tall he is as long as he was here on earth love Prince thank you for the insight 💜💜💜💜😀😀😀
I agree!
Definitely
Before the internet, everyone looked taller, especially on screen. I think Prince wore taller heels than you stated, but in reality it was his personality that was so huge, which made him "look" taller, even after you found out his real height. 💜
Yeah I agree on the heels issue. I saw several of his original, worn shoes up on the auction block, and they were three and three and a half inches in height.
Height is not important.
Prince was larger than life.
His talent was huge.
Thank You.
5'2" GIANT!!!💜
hahahaha! truth!
@@PrincesFriend ✌💜
I never knew there was an obsession with celebrities' height.
I think people are surprised at his height because he’s larger than life. 💜
Wud‘n Nud’n Wrong Cud’n. Height don’t make money. Minds do. Shorty the pimp.
People really do obsess over the craziest things . Prince was a musical giant, and a genius.
People are obsessed with Princess height because he's a giant on stage and he naturally looks like he's 5' 8" especially during the 1999 Purple Rain era the trench coat just makes him look tall and I'm sure that was intentional.
I wish you had included the height of the Revolution members and NPG and members
Well, with his high he, that made him 5 8"
I didn't focus on his height because of all his other attributes 💜🤔
He is the greatest living soul you’ll ever know
I’ve always wondered why people were so hung up on his height. Obviously it didn’t stop him from becoming one of the greatest artist ever.
Because taller men are more attractive to women.
@@BlunderCity False. It's just that being tall makes it easier to be slim/athletic and short men tend to be stout/stocky, which is the ugly part. Prince proved that most women dont give shit anout heigh as long as he's handsome and watches his diet.
@@intellectualrebel5340
Yeah you're right, let's throw away every piece of research ever done on the subject and let's trust our instincts.
"Big things come in small packages." Prince's Impact on 'Pop Culture' is the very opposite of his stature!
Didnt he refer to himself in at least 1 song as "your little man"?
My favorite fact is why he wore heels. He wore heels not because he wanted to be taller, it was because the ladies love em.
I'm 4'11 and 1/2. ....... yeah, I claim the 1/2 so there😌
that 1/2 is super important. lol
Always thought it Funny, as in 'Napoleon and the French Revolution'
RIP Peter Mayhew
Well, my first Prince concert was his 1999 World Tour in Gary, Indiana at the Genesis Convention Center on Nov. 19th, 1982, it was incredible, but one topic was "I didn't know Prince was so short." Folks were saying I thought he was tall from the sound of his voice. Not me, I was amazed by his stage performance and presence.
I don’t see what the man’s height had to do with anything. 👍🏼🙂
Prince presents a victory for all us short guys, to live through vicariously, and any other successful short men.
a very honest response.. respect to you sir. :)
Rena Fagel I believe in a Rolling Stone interview P said he wore the heels because women liked them.
Prince wore 4 inch heels, not 2 inches.
It obviously was an issue for Prince himself. I personally couldn't care less. The music is all that matters.
It didn't seem like HE cared, but society really seemed to
@@PrincesFriend But isn't that partly the reason why he wore high heels - to make himself look taller?
I could have been. I never heard him talk about his height or why he wore the heels. have you? I'd love to hear a quote or two of him talking about it?
@@PrincesFriend "this is for why i wasn't born like my brother, handsome and tall"
@@PrincesFriend he seemed confident, but at the same time, he's kinda like me. Insecure and all that. Well, everybody is and that's okay. I'm insecure about my height , too. 5,1 btw.
I never knew his height until this year. STILL doesn't matter to me, I watch Him more than ever!
He can still get it and I'm 5'7 lmao! But.. I know all his women were skinny/petite.
hahahahaha!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👏🏼✊🏾👏🏼
It's always curious to know how tall celebrities are but in reality it doesn't matter.
It's such a big deal to so many people, that's the weird thing to me. lol
5' 2" is what all my research said, but then some commenters have said 5 2.5 and others 5 3, so... in that area. lol
Love these videos brotha! 💜
thanks Jacob!
In my eyes he was a giant 💜💜💜
truth!
media bull shit is allways top of the list tall to real people to see the real Prince.
Who cares about the HEIGHT of a celebrity when the LENGTH of their bank account amounts (from so many numbers) is so long?! 😂😂😂
Prince was 5'3
Prince was actually 5 foot 3 inches. But who cares? He was a giant on stage where it matters.
RebelThoughts82 - yes you’re correct! He was 5.3 bundle of staggering talent and sexiness - funsize! ☺️
Thanks so much!
I just became a subscriber and I must say I am very thankful how tasteful u are in presenting such a legend in the music business since his unfortunate demise. I appreciate all your content and once I'm back on my feet I will definitely be supporting what u do... I broke both hips and have also extreme severe degenerative joint disease and scoliosis and the fund's I have are reinvested in trying to get some of my health back. The content u share and again the care in which u verbalize and compliment princes life is untouched and done in such a tasteful way... Keep up the great work... Can wait til the next video. Have a great night...
wow! First off, welcome to the channel. Secondly, I hope you recover quickly. Rest and heal the right way. We're 3 years in and there's a lot of content on this channel, and there's no stopping us! You're a friend now. :)
@@PrincesFriend Thank YOU SO much...
PRINCE reminds me very much of BRUCE LEE. ....He was ALWAYS the biggest person in the room. Both where trailblazers in their fields. Both were very confident and self assured and despite being physically small they were head and shoulders above everyone else. ...Nobody told them what to do.
Prince wore a size 27 waist mostly, sometimes 25, 26, or 28.
In the world of entertainment, Prince was 8 feet tall! 😃
Size matters? Must be something in the water. Does not compute.
on a personal note, i think his height only makes him more adorable.
That's so true. And his large head is even more adorable, too 😍
I actually recall Prince's height to be 5"3 according to authopsy report 😎
The height of Prince's artistry is more than everyone!
You got that right Michelle!!!
Lol.
@@PrincesFriend I meant to say the way he positioned himself for photos made him appear taller than the females that accompanied him.
Never cared or thought about his height, just his talent.
He was a little man, 5"2", he used use 4" heels. Making him 5"6".
Prince was 5'3
I always thought that it added to his awesome purpleness. When I met him, I towered over him. I'm 6' 2"... but that didn't matter, because I was so starstruck that I smiled like a fool!! When I met him again years later, he remembered me!! I couldn't believe it.
I never thought about this but its interesting to find out so Thanks. Another podcast I missed a year ago. Have a nice day! 💜
