Listening to this record today on Sunday, December 31st, 2023! New Years Eve! The Record is 110 years old!
"I have a daughter who's hungry for love / she loves to ride everyday." Gotta love those old timey innuendos.
hahahahahaha
Recorded on November 14, 1913.
What a beautiful machine, the phono that is!
I have this record
OH, my, I remember hearing this as a child. Haven't heard it for decades. Thanks for posting it.
Billy Murray was FUNNY!
I heard this for the first time for Horatio's Drive, too. I have it as an MP3 file. Came by here because I woke up this morning with the song going through my head.
Senora - "Clear as a Bell" and it sounds like it too. Nice.

Love this old song.
My mother told me that the gramophone her parents had, the horn was underneath the turntable. A person had to be careful not to wind the spring too tight or the spring would pop. Your gramophone had very good sound quality. It appears you spent much time getting this old gem to excellent working order. The sound, for its time period, is magnified very well. The antique key looked very familiar in the keyhole of the gramophone. We had one very similar on a chain with other antique keys.
One more year (or maybe less!) and this record is 100 years old!
I've been looking for this record! A copy for myself.
Beautiful! Thanks for posting!
@wps1977 "Even in 1913?" Domestic production was probably close to 500,000 by then.
According to record historian Jim Walsh, Murray was a car enthusiast, to put it mildly. He must have had a ball recording this.
I heard this song on the doctor demento show on KMET LosAngeles in the 1970s this song played on the top 10 most requested songs a lot.
I remember. I listened to Dr. Demento every Sunday night. He also played quite a few Billy Murray recordings.
thank you for posting!! someone referred to this song in a story they wrote. I wondered if the song existed. it does!! brilliant song!!
beautiful phonograph too!!
Ty for your work!!! I love your channel/music .....Subscribed
Very cool... and a pretty Sonora phonograph as well!
This tune inspired a wonderful Hal Roach-Harold Lloyd short from 1920 that can also be found on this site in a beautiful pristine print.
@103056mhg This is one of my all time favorite's as well. Unfortunately this is the only copy of the Victor version that I have in my possession. Should I happen to acquire a duplicate I would consider it. In the meantime "Happy Hunting", and thanks for watching.
