This amazing man was my great uncle. He was married to my great Aunt, Madelyn Murray, and my mother was his niece. Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Born in Philly but has a strong flat British accent. I wonder where his parents lived before coming to Philly , or if this is the Philly dialect of the time.
@@LeonardAngussmith His parents were Irish immigrants. They moved to Denver Colorado when he was about 5 years old and that is where he was raised. On comic songs, he often deliberately sang slightly flat, which he felt helped the comic effect. Also, this recording was made before microphones, which means "singing" meant shouting as loudly as possible into a horn so there is that also...
'You can go as far as you like with me in my merry oldsmobile' I laughed when I heard that one, it has some rather different connotations in the 21st century!

I was born in 1979 but I sure will admit that the music of yesterday is the best by far! These kids these days don't know what music is they don't have a clue. It's really odd to think that the cartoon to this song was banned in Europe back then. Thanks for the song!
CURTIS ROBERTS I’m in high school and I can’t stand what my peers are listening to! I don’t even call rap music, because it’s simply somebody talking fast with a random series of notes in the background. People my age don’t have a clue what good music is!
There's nothing like getting an early start in life at making sweeping generalizations about entire generations and learning to state our own temporary feelings as timeless facts. It wins friends and creates an abundance of happiness. Hooray!
Nice song, I remember hearing it when I was a child on old cartoon, never realized it as so ancient, and this is a very nice recording of the original version as a Waltz, then there came some of them as a Fox-Trot, like the famous version by Jean Goldkette. Lovely car horns on the recording.
back2skooldaze Wooden horns produced better sound than the all-metal ones. The all-metal ones have more tinny sound and they produce sounds that are less pleasant to the ear.

No, it had the same connotations in 1905. Just a subtle innuendo.
The same innuendo then and now, and not subtle.

I like the old car horn sound effects too! Thanks for the comments.
Old? Those horns were state-of-the-art when this was recorded!
Nice song. I remember hearing this in cartoons as a kid.
I haven't gone automo-bubbling in YEARS! Thank you for sharing
Thanks for the fun comments! Always a pleasure to hear from you.

You're very welcome and thank you for the nice comments.
The innuendo has not changed a bit in 100 years.
wow, more than a hundred years recording.
And were still enjoying them
I thank you for sharing another Billy Murray recording. I certainly enjoy that. I want to listen again and again...

Lovely car horns on the recording.
That wooden horn is so beautiful!!!
Very good quality for that many years.I own a merry Oldsmobile.
nice tone from a wooden horn! :)

+back2skooldaze Ya I know its super clean.
@@megabojan1993 It's the same today with stereo speakers. I prefer wooden ones over plastic with tend to buzz and rattle.
@@moonbear5929 Yeah I agree with you. That's why wooden speakers are usually more expensive than the plastic ones.
@@megabojan1993 But worth it!
Automo-bubbling: cars were often called bubbles back then because of the bubbling sound they made.
awesome video as always!
Loved it!
Always good to hear from you chompo!
Thank you for sharing this!!!

Thank you for the nice comments.
I always wondered if those records new had that staticy background
Incredible that a record over 100 years old sounds that good.
If it's good enough for Nipper the RCA dog then it's good enough for me. Nifty old song.
Hello there, I’ve also heard a version of this song recorded by Collins & Harlans 😊
This was recorded in 1909
very nice song. But how do you determine the date of the record???
There are online registries that you can look up, with the label and number on the record.
RIP

I might have that same record I would have to check
LAUGH I HAD NOT EVER HEARD SO WHEN HE SAID LUCILLE I LAUGHED LUCY CLOSE ENOUGH ENJOYED VERY MUCH LUCY.
