- How to Whip Store Bought Icing | Review of Rich's Bettercreme: In this video, I show you step-by-step how to whip store bought icing, specifically Rich's Bettercreme. I also try three different piping techniques once this icing is whipped. This was my first time whipping and piping Rich's Bettercreme on the recommendation of a few subscribers, so I'm sharing my honest opinion! Will I love it or leave it?
The following is information taken from the packaging:
Troubleshooting:
If Bettercreme appears wet, shiny, or slides off the cake, product was not thawed properly.
-If Bettercreme appears coarse, stiff or airy, the product was either left out of the refrigerator too long, was overwhipped, or exceeded refrigerated shelf life.
-If overwhipped, add more Bettercreme and whip until product returns to the recommended soft peak appearance.
Shelf Life:
-Refrigerated, thawed: 90 days
Do not refreeze Bettercreme
Serving suggestion:
-Use as an icing and filling for cakes, cupcakes, tortes and desserts .
-Fill donuts and pastries.
-Decorate or garnish pies and desserts.
-Add any food coloring or flavor to create cakes and desserts that wow!

Thanks so much! I want to help as many people as I can…. 💕
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I used this for the first time on a birthday cake for a friend and it was a huge hit! Easy to make and use. Will have to try the chocolate as well :)
Wait… there’s a chocolate version?! 😳
@@AsiaCoffee IKR! Yes, at Gordon Food Service. Hubby had the choice of vanilla or chocolate, he picked vanilla, but I still love him :D

Thanks for the tutorial ❤️🐝
I love this product. I use it to make the flavoured filling for my cakes. And I use it for my Icebox and Black Forrest Cakes. It works great in tropical environments.
I get it pre mixed in a tub in Jamaica 🇯🇲.
Where in ja do you find it? I can only find the frozen one but i would like the tub. I’m on Ocho Rios.
Love this! I used to work at coldstone creamery and this is all we used to decorate our cakes with and I’ve been looking for a recipe for it ever since!
I was pleasantly surprised by the taste; pretty good stuff! Thanks for watching 💕
So informative and life saving for me, thank you so much!!! I have a full sheet cake this weekend to make for a client of mine and they want whipped icing!
A lot of people have been asking for whipped icing over the last few years. This one is pretty tasty! Best of luck on your sheet cake! 😉
The Bettercreme sounds just like what I'm looking for. Thank you!
Glad to help! Best of luck on your cake! 😉
This is what Walmart uses as their whipped icing on cakes. Atleast that’s what I was told by them a handful of years ago. Walmart let me buy some butter cream from them but then we moved and the Walmart by my new house wouldn’t sell it to me 😢 I couldn’t make or find anything even close to their “whipped” icing. And I’ve looked for where to buy it. Idk, I love it! It’s so good! Me and my husband hate bUttercream icing it is not even close to the whipped icing(bEttercream) the whipped is so much better! Lighter, doesn’t melt, isn’t too sweet. Yum!
Loved your tutorial! I will definitely try that Bettercreme!! Thanks!!
I’m finding that a lot of people really like this icing/frosting. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and consistency! Thanks for watching 💕
Thank you! I might use this. If they sell it in N.y.
Could this be colored to like a brown. Im going to attempt making my son his bday cake. I’m so lost because he doesn’t like butter cream, he only likes whip cream cake.
Yes, this frosting takes color very well! Be sure that you’re NOT using liquid food coloring; only gel paste or oil-based. Good luck on your sons cake! 💕
Can this be use for homemade ice cream?
To top ice cream: Sure! To make ice cream: I don’t know…. Let’s open it up for others to give their two cents!
Very informative! Ty ❤️
Thanks for watching!
I bought this it awesome. I use it a lot. If I’m not making butter cream
Thanks for watching! Have you tried the chocolate version yet?
@@AsiaCoffee my sister doesn’t not like butter and I made American buttercream. She was eating it like oh my this is really good . . Her boyfriend that said you know your eating butter after 2 hours . she started gagging. Me, Randy, you know anybody ever tell you to keep your mouth shut. that’s why I’d buy. Bettercreme for her
@@krisrtinkoss136 Haha, that’s a crazy story! Next time trick her with Swiss meringue buttercream…. 😉
@@AsiaCoffee I did with Italian meringue buttercream. I don’t really make any more. Then she kept saying wow best icing. My son after 1 hour your eating all butter. She won’t eat any kind of butter. Weird she’ll eat can frosting from a store bought. I have made Swiss meringue buttercream it didn’t turn out. I’m hearing from people saying when making Italian meringue buttercream it can be greasy. Lady said she likes swiss meringue buttercream better.
Nice tutorial. I was wondering where to find this bettercreme in the stores in the US. Which stores keep them? Thanks
I found it at Gordon Food Service (GFS). I’ve never seen it in any other store!
@@AsiaCoffee thanks
Can you use this as buttercream under fondant?
Great question! I have never tried this under fondant before (Bettercreme is quite soft and not as sturdy as actual buttercream), BUT that sounds like it would make a great video…. ☺️Let’s see if anyone who’s tried will comment in the meantime. Thanks for watching!
I have a question I hope you can answer. Can you mix better cream with cream cheese icing and get a good consistency
Good question! I’ve never tried that, BUT I feel like it could negatively affect the consistency of the Bettercreme. If you’re aiming for the cream cheese taste, I would recommend adding some cream cheese flavoring instead. I believe Lorann makes one that you can buy from Michaels. I hope this helps!
@@AsiaCoffee ok thank you. So much
Can I melt chocolate and whip it in to make a choclate buttercream
Yes, I believe doing this will work! I’ve done a similar thing in this video to make chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream: ruclips.net/video/Ea4ym-dl_vg/видео.htmlsi=hSepPhD6nqacQeCL. Great question; thanks for commenting!
I have a question, so I have this. Vanilla Bettercreme Have you ever made this into chocolate using cocoa powder if so, how much. I need it for this weekend thanks
Great question! I have never added cocoa powder to it to make it chocolate, but I will give you a tip. This icing is very soft and watery starting off. I would recommend adding real melted chocolate that’s been cooled to room temperature instead of the cocoa powder. I’ve added colored powdered to whipped icing in a previous video and the powder did not incorporate properly. I think you’ll get a better result if the chocolate you add is closer to consistency to the icing. Best of luck!
Piggy-backing on my previous comment: Watch how I melted and added the chocolate in this video: ruclips.net/video/Ea4ym-dl_vg/видео.htmlsi=6CCOr9mbCqxWQEoO. 😉
@@AsiaCoffee where I bought that from I’ve used it before but I’ve never added chocolate. My nephew who is turning 4 want it in chocolate. How much melted chocolate do you think I should use just regular milk chocolate chips? Do I need to heat up up any heavy, whipping cream then add the chocolate. some people say use a garni. The lady at the store where I bought it from. She said you’re the fourth person that asked if they could sell the chocolate. She said I’m going to contact my manager again. Thanks
@@krisrtinkoss136 I’m not sure what a “garni” is. You can melt down chocolate chips and use them if you don’t have chocolate bars. As for how much, I would start with melting down and adding about 1/2 a bag (or 6 oz). You’ll must likely need to add the entire bag, but it’s best to start with a small amount of chocolate (in this case) and add more melted chocolate “to taste”.
It's a diary or non dairy product??
This icing contains a milk derivative, so I would consider it to contain dairy just to be on the safe side. Thanks for watching!
Can you tint this icing with Wilton icing colors? Also, is it stiff enough to make roses?
If you tint it, does the color bleed? Thank you. I enjoy your videos
Yes, you should be able to tint this icing with the Wilton gel colors. I explain ways that whipped icing can be colored in this video: ruclips.net/video/1MbZN62jKis/видео.html.
This icing was quite soft. You could probably pipe roses however they may be stand up for long. You can experiment and try refrigerated a piped rose to see if chilling it would make it more stable.
I don’t typically work with whipped icing. If you’re concerned about color bleed, I would recommend not using very dark or saturated colors.
Best of luck and thanks for watching! 💕
I plan to use this for my daughter's 1st Birthday cake! How long do you recommend I make the cake before serving? Can I make it the night before and leave it in the fridge. Or should I make same day? Thanks!
You can totally make the cake the night before and refrigerate it up until about 30 minutes before it’s served. It’s pretty tasty! Happy Birthday to your little one… 🥳
I have another question so if I add chocolate Ameri food color when do you add it in before you whip it or after you whip it. Thanks
Add the coloring after you whip. 💕
Can i mix bettercream and non diary whipping cream??
You probably could, but I don’t know what the result would be. Why would you want/need to mix the two?
@@AsiaCoffee to get a thicker texture and a more delicious taste..
@@eriqaal-attas8363 You can try it and see if that’s the result you get. Please return and let us know if it works!
I❤it!!!!
I have 3 cartons in my freezer right now! Can’t wait to whip up some more… 😋
Do I need to refrigerate it if I fill cupcakes?
Yes, I would. Thanks for watching!
the best kept secret
I know right!
How can I make it thicker?
You could try whipping it for longer. I got the sense that if I followed the directions to the tee, the mix would whip up to the perfect consistency (which it did). There is troubleshooting info on the side of the carton. Make sure that you’ve kept the container at the temperatures indicated for the best results. Best of luck!
@@AsiaCoffee thank you!!
What do you consider medium speed on a kitchenaid stand mixer?
Great question! The max is 10 on my Kitchenaid, so I wouldn’t go any faster than 6 for medium speed. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for a response. I really appreciate that alot of people usually don't. And not to worry I have already subscribed.
So this does not need any gelatin?
No it does not. Good question; thanks for watching!
Can u plz tell how does this taste .. like whipped cream or a buttercream?
Definitely like whipped cream, flavored with vanilla.
Can food color be used with this?
Yes it can! This icing was very soft, so (as always) I DON'T recommend using liquid food color. Thanks for watching!
Where can you buy this product?
I found it at GFS (Gordon Food Service); US store. I mentioned this in the beginning of the video. Thanks for watching! 💕
larger rosette for cupcakes
I’m 99% sure I cover that in this video about improving cupcakes: ruclips.net/video/kfnAy69obbw/видео.html. Thanks for watching!
Can you ice a cake with it? Buttercream is too sweet for me
Yes, you can ice a cake with it! I wouldn’t go any taller than 2 layers though because it’s quite soft.
@@AsiaCoffee i live in the Dmv and cant find it anyways. Help please

Hi, how to mix it with cream cheese?
Good question! I would NOT mix cream cheese directly into this icing. If you want cream cheese flavor without negatively impacting the thickness of the icing, try adding some Amoretti to it. It’s a concentrated flavor, so a little goes a long way. Thanks for watching!
@@AsiaCoffee ok gpt it. Thank you 😊
