I assume the couplers w/roll pins are rotated horizontal and driven out with an appropriate diameter punch?
Yes, they come out quite easily on mine.
@@ERLong-ww7yn l was surprised you said 12mm And not half inch, lol. Great to see the tractor isnt over-engineered, basically requiring a mechanic and a garage-bay to work on. Seems to be a problem often these days....
l wonder though, if this tractor, not saying it is or is not, but if it were under manufacturer warranty still, does this nullify manufacturer warranty afterwards?
@@demetrioshristovski4518 I know there are a lot of issues with warranty where John Deere and other makes are concerned, but I don't think Kubota is that picky. My brother in law runs all JD and the issues he's had are enough to make me steer clear.
Big haha on the 12mm. Unfortunately Kubota is a metric rig. But hey, 13mm is closer to 1/2". Lol

Great Video ! I have a Ford 1310 tractor that had the same issue. The front coupler was stripped. It was a little more work to get the drive shaft out, but this information you supplied Really helped me figure out how to start working on my tractor.Thanks so much !!!

Well got the shaft off ok, thanks for the video. But frankly, I don’t see much wear or tear. Drives fine , but 4 the front wheels are not adding any power. Any ideas?
Are the splines still good on both ends of the coupler? If so, check the linkage from the lever that engages the 4wd. Sometimes that can come apart. If that's good, your issue must be internal.
Your Kubota looks similar to mine. I have a L3010 model from about 2003. I am a mechanical dummy but I do what I can. My 4WD has stopped working but I still have rear wheel drive. Is the fix that you demonstrate the one that would be used in all cases of a 4WD failure. In other words - is the problem and the solution always the same in the situation where the tractor still has rear wheel drive but no front(4WD) drive? I think I can follow what you did but if the problem is anything else I would not know what I am looking at.
Most likely the cause. It's a "designed to fail" part, kind of like a shear pin.

What model were you working on there? Local guy has a Kubota L245DT that the front wheels won't spin on. Might try to pick it up if I look under there and see the little driveshaft like that under there!
My tractor is a M8200
Were you able to get your tractor through all that snow? I only have an L series and even with chains on the front and back there is no way I could get through the heavily pack 50 cm of snow. At the end of this warm week and if the snow drops a bit I think I will blow my way into the woodlot and start cutting again.
We had a road broke into the woods all winter, and it only required plowing on the hills each storm. Of course, we were yarding logs on that road every day which kept it packed down. Any new trails, however, we plowed with the bucket. Once the trails froze overnight, they'd be good for yarding. We stripped the 4WD plowing one of the new trails. The ice storm that hit northeast NB missed us, but we got about 6-8" of heavy crust, heavy enough to drive the ATV's on. That's what proved too much for the shaft.

On your video of fixing the 4wd driveshaft - I have an L4630 with basically the same set up excepting how the housing is configured. I removed the pins from the couplers and slid the couplers toward the center of the shaft but cannot get enough clearance to drop the shaft. Depending on the direction I slide the shaft I can ever so slightly clear the spline of the one of the pinons but cannot drop it down. Was afraid to pry it down for fear of torquing a pinon in its bearing. Been using a hammer to try to slide couplers further along the drive shaft without success. Any tricks to this?
The coupler at the rear seems to slide farther than the one at the front axle. On my tractor this rear coupler slid all the way off the shaft onto the stub from the transmission allowing enough play for the shaft to drop down. I used to own a L4150 but never had to remove the shaft on it.
Thanks, I was really hesitant to do that fearing that I'd never get it back because of the force I'd have to use beyond just pushing it. I'll try to do that a bit more to see what happens. The tractor isn't under cover so will have to wait for the rains to cease. Thanks again!
No problem. Best of luck. Maybe try applying a bit of grease or a product like WD 40 to help the couplers slide easier.

Imo , Chains on one axle only is a killer in 4 wheel drive .
Not sure if you're speaking of my tractor or not. In my experience, chains on the front axle are a BIG source of trouble. The driveshaft connecting the front wheels isn't designed to take the torque of a spinning tire with chains suddenly getting a bite on something.
What part number is the coupling?

Sounds like he has some differential problems there.

@@jamesnorton4341 most likely something has come loose, but to access it you have to split the tractor, unbolting the transmission and rear end from the motor section.
It would have been much more informative if you showed how to remove the shaft.
