- On our farm we have two Kubota tractors. An M4900 and an M105x. Both tractors experienced similar problems at different times, the front axle seal was destroyed by the bearing when it failed. The tractors are very similar in design with respect to the front axels. The 105x has a couple more pieces parts but having done the M4900, it was a breeze to do. We show you step by step how to replace the bearing and seal. Hope you enjoy our video
Thank you for doing this video! I just did this on my L3430 last night. Kubota wanted $500-$600 to do this but after I found your video I felt really confident in tackling it myself. Everything was identical. Thanks again!
Myles, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It's great how Kubota makes their tractors. I have a M105x and it is very similar. It has a few more gears in it but very similar. That video is due out soon. If you have other questions or video suggestions that could help you, reach out to us through our website. www.millgafarms.com. I would enjoy being a resource. Kevin
Great Video, it helped me diagnose and fix the same issue with my L3830. The seal was leaking and the outer bearing failed. Had no idea till I viewed your video!
Glad it helped Mr. Kosct! I've done this repair 5 times on 2 tractors. This smaller tractor is a breeze! The M105x is slightly more involved. In this repair the hardest thing is getting the wheel off. Take your time and think about making a video of you doing it. Especially when you pull the keepers off. If you get stuck, email me through our website www.millgapfarms.com. Thanks for watching and taking a minute to comment! Kevin
Thanks for the video. Watched this before helping my uncle work on his kubota L3130. Everything is almost the exact same. Took all of the guesswork out of it for us.
Thanks for leaving a comment. I've got another tractor M105x, that i'm about to do too. I did one side in the field last year then I did it again about month ago because I thought it was leaking. Turned out I overfilled it with gear lube... I appreciate you taking time to comment!!
Just adding another thank you for making the video. Both my seals went out on my M7060. Exactly the same as yours. Job was super easy. I cheated though and used a gear puller to dismantle it all. When I use a hammer things usually get damaged. 😀
Mr. Langley,
Thanks for commenting. We have another challenge with our big tractor. It's missing and we need to get it repaired before too long. We will post that video soon. Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching and commenting! Kevin
Extreme mulching was really cool. Love watching you and the family on the other videos.
Doug, Come up for a visit sometime. We miss you! K
Doug, Come up for a visit sometime. We miss you! K
Props to you Kevin for being able to fix that! Looks like a surgery is being done, for someone who doesn't know tractors or parts well, haha. Job well done.
Nico, I'm finally caught up on all my comments... this one took forever... thanks for watching our videos and commenting. This one seem to be the best one we've done. I did a remake of it when I had to do the other side. Believe it or not, it took me longer to film it than it did to install the part. I'm getting much better at installing these parts. Not that I want to be, but it helps to do these things myself and not have the added expense on the farm! Stay cool! K
Kubota doesn't offer a replacement o ring for my b3030, any idea what other I can do?
That’s really strange. How old is your tractor? And have you tried message.com? If you wanna talk outside of the comments go to our website www.millgapfarms.com and email me. Thanks Kevin
Awesome video!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching! If you have any questions let me know in the comments or email me through our website www.millgapfarms.com. Thanks Kevin
We thought "oh, that looks like a pretty straight forward, not too bad job here on the video." Uh huh. 10 hours, a press, and a cutting torch later. That first bearing @ 2:59 is NOT going to come off. There's nowhere to get a puller in there, and no pry bar is gonna do it. This was on an M9000 with bale netting eating up the seals. We appreciated the video, but holy hell that was a tough job.
You are correct about the bearing puller. I used screwdrivers and mine came off. I think the reason this job was as easy as it was, and the in the latest video, ruclips.net/video/QdX3UMgoQUM/видео.html it was easy too, was because as soon as I saw a leak, I stopped. If I had not stopped and all the gear lube came out, It is very possible the bearing would heat up and stick to other parts like glue. This was my first video I had ever done. I did it with my phone and did the work in my driveway over the course of 3 days. Day 1 was tearing it down, day 2 waiting for parts, day 3 putting it back together. Believe me, I scratched my head a lot and used Messicks parts diagrams to figure it out. Back then I didn't rely on RUclips as I do today. It would have made my life much easier...at least in the scratching my head part... I have am105x that I'm about to do a second time. When I do it, I will certainly post a video showing how it goes. It's similar but with gears that will pinch you if you are not careful. I'm guessing your M9000 may be similar. On our farm we make organic maple syrup and raise sheep/alpacas/chickens (for our consumption). While I like working on equipment, I much prefer to be making hay or working in the woods to having to stop and work on a tractor. Thank you for watching and commenting. It really helps me! God bless you!
@@MillGapFarms yeah we had the Kubota dealer print off the assembly diagram when we picked up the parts. Even with some emory cloth and a scrubbing in the parts tank, the new bearing had to be pressed onto that pin. We even tried heating the bearing up in the oven @ 350*, but it was pointless. There is just such a tight tolerance on that pin. That pin in reality should probably be turned out another thousandth on a lathe. We're not building aircraft here. No reason for that tight a tolerance
I'm still figuring out how to use comments. Sorry for the delay in my response. I could not agree more. No reason for it being that tight. Thankfully I didn't have to press mine in. Thanks for your comments. K
Thanks for the the video. I have a m4900 with this problem
I hope this helps. If you have questions email me through our website. Right now I'm replacing the seal on the hub itself. I'll post a vide when I get it finished. Thanks kevin www.millgapfarms.com
Thanks now i now how the front axle drives! And assembly
Kubota uses a similar set up in there larger tractors like our m105x. They add some gears that you have to be careful of because they can pinch a finger quick. Essentially the same set up. We have to do the m105x very soon.. Thanks for watching but even more thanks for commenting!
Hope you found the missing steel balls of the bearing! Axle be ready to rock again! Nice work
That's a good question. I can't really remember. Recently I did the other side and it went really well. It took me longer to film it than to get the bearing in. We are ready for the season now with this tractor. I still need to break down the m105x though. The right wheel sounds off. That's similar in design but with a few more pieces parts. Thanks for watching and commenting! k
Do you recall any noise prior to leaking. Like a "creaking sound"? I just replaced the bearings and seals on my kubota mx5100. I think I may have missed a step and have found it leaking again along with a the creaking sound. These machines can be our best friends most of the time. But every now and again they can be burdensome
Shane, It is hard to hear a noise inside the cab. If it gets bad enough, you'll hear and sort of feel the crunching. What you are hearing is the bearing failing and balls out of alignment. That will always take out the seal... this is what I saw from the cab. On my bigger tractor (m105x) I've got a crunching that I need to address but right now I'm in the beginning of Maple season and this tractor blew the other seal. After 20 years, things will start to happen and it is something to expect. I had a similar problem with my big tractor. Turned out that I overfilled the gear lube and it pushed it's way out of the seal. When you installed the seal did you mirror match the parts or was the seal too far gone to read numbers? It is possible the seal is not seated as well as it could be. Thanks for watching and reaching out! Kevin
@@MillGapFarms Thank you for the response. Now that you mention overfilling with gear lube. It makes me wonder if that's what I may have done. I refilled with travelers 80/90. I filled until it started to come out of the overflow port. Then I put the plug back into the overflow port and added a little extra, not realizing I could add too much. I going to take it back apart today to se what all is going on. 👍
I'm still figuring out how to use comments. Sorry for the delay in my response. How did your repair go? Thanks Kevin
Sir i am dhamu in India in tamilnadu i like your video small help kubota mu4501 front 4×4 oil how much litter tell me sir
Hello Dhamu. Thanks for watching our video. And thanks for the question. Towards the end of the video you see me put in the gear lube t's a 80-90w gear oil. I began filling it from the top and continued until it was full. The way you know it is full is by the overflow above the steering knuckle. I'm sorry I did not show that in this video. There is a small screw with what should be a crush washer on it about a third of the way down from the top of the knuckle itself. Make sure the front end of the tractor is sitting level when you fill it and as soon as it comes out of that hole, Let the tractor sit for a little while so it can reach it's level. The gear lube will take a minute or two to fully level out. Then the axel is full. Of course I have not answered your question... How much gear lube does it take? it's about 7 quarts (6.6l). A question you didn't ask me that you will want to understand is whether you use UDT or gear lube. I would suggest using whatever came out. I used gear lube in mine. But some L series (US models) use UDT. As your dealer what they recommend. I would wager the owners manual will suggest both. Which is what I found when I searched some forums to understand this better. If you need a photo of where the overflow is on my tractor. Go to www.millgapfarms.com and email me. I'll take a photo of mine and send it to you. Thanks for watching my video. I wish you the best with this work! Kevin
Just lost the front axle bearing on my MX5100 for the second time! Seems like a weak point on the machine. As soon as you see an oil leak fix it or will trash the $400 axle.
Mathew, I've fixed the 4900 twice and the m105x 3 times. One extra time because it happened in a field and I got a wrong bearing. You are very correct. At the first sight of a leak, stop and fix it! On the 105x, I just rebuild from the axel out. Thankfully the axel wasn't damaged! That was a big project with lots and lots of parts. Thanks for watching that video will be up soon. Kevin
Добрый день. Мне нужна ваша помощь. У меня Кубота GM49 , нужны номера сальника ступицы и сальника поворотного шкворня. Спасибо.
👍
I appreciate the thumbs up. Comments of any form motivate me to continue to make these videos. Not too long ago, I replaced the entire hub assembly on my m105x. That was interesting. I'm working on the video now and will have it up soon. Very similar to this tractor but with a bunch more gears. Thanks for watching and taking a moment to post your thumbs up! Kevin
I need the information but I can’t hear you speaking.
Bomerang, This was my first you tube video. I apologize about the audio. What can I help you with? Kevin
I've had to take all this apart and rebuild it 8 times on my L4400. I can do it in about one hour now if I only have to replace the bearings or seal.
VERY VERY important! ... the very second you see an oil leak or feel an unnatural grinding or vibration ... STOP!
When the bearings fall out they will get in the teeth of the gears and cause MAJOR damages. Very expen$ive!!
These parts are sky high but if you can find them on ebay you can get 4 outer bearings for $20 rather than paying the dealer $32 for one.
I'm looking for the bevel gear because the bearings that fall out chew up the gears very bad. Dealer wants $230... the same part from China is $5.50 but quantity is required. Not sure how many or time or shipping cost.
The biggest challenge is finding the correct part number.
Yes! Use a lot of brake cleaner! And tape a 1/4 inch plastic tube to a shop vacuum and suck the cleaning fluid out from behind the bevel gear. If you don't get almost all the metal flakes out of the gear lube chamber you WILL be doing this again real soon.
One last note... when you take the outer plate off... about 8 12mm bolts, it's easy to over torque and strip them when you put it back on... but at the same time they will work loose if not torqued enough. So... once you have replaced bearings gears or seals, after a few hours of use, take the wheel off and see if these 12mm bolts are getting loose. If they get too lose the plate will slip off and do major damage $$$
This is the only major weakness that I have found on my L4400 in over 6,000 hours of use... but these bearings frequently fail when using the bucket a lot. I will NOT put my next Kubota in 4 wheel drive unless I'm stuck.
Terryblount, Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I had a gentleman tell me this was a made up video and there was no way I did it in the time of the video. I told him that it took longer to video it than it did to do it. Which seems to be the case with most of my projects.... I appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts! More videos on the way! K
gosh..a bearing puller is a must
Would have been better without music OR at least have it lower than your speaking voice Also need wider view and also details
Thanks for watching James and commenting. I agree the video does have loud music. This was the first video I ever posted on you ture. I wish I still had files so I could edit it today. We have a couple other videos that do the same thing. Look at this one... ruclips.net/video/QdX3UMgoQUM/видео.html I think you will find the music levels much better. Thanks again for watching and commenting! Kevin
It would help if you would not speed up your videos, if your trying to help others then teach them ..
Almost made me drunk
This was my very first video I ever posted in RUclips. I had no idea what I was doing editing wise...much less repairing my tractor. If i still had the footage, I could adjust it. Unfortunately, I don't. I am working on another video that is very similar to this one but it is my m105x. I will get it posted soon. If you have questions about your tractor, email me through www.millgapfarms.com and I'll help any way I can. Thanks for watching and posting your thoughts! Kevin
