When Sir Roger died, I remember reading an anecdote about a man who, as a boy, saw Roger on the airport. His dad gave him a piece of paper and a pen, and he ran over to ask "James Bond" for his autograph. When the boy came back to his dad, the dad could see he was not very happy. "WHo is Roger Moore? I wanted James Bond's autograph!!" The dad went over to Roger and explained the boy's disappointment. Roger beckoned back the boy, and then told him he was on an undercover 007--mission, top-secret, so that is why he signed it as Roger Moore. YEars later, this boy became a lighting technician, and was contracted to do a UNICEF meeting of some sort. This was when Roger was at UNICEF. Everybody lined up to shake his hand. When the lighting man got his very short turn, he referred to that day, but got the impression Roger couldn't remember it. At the end of the meeting, Roger came back to him and said yes, he completed that top-secret mission, and he is glad that the boy/man "kept their secret" for so long. What a man!

Thank you for being his stand in. Love Always!
I sat next to and spoke to Roger Moore on aircraft a couple of times from Switzerland to London. Very nice man and very interesting to talk to - very sad he is gone
My favourite Bond. Full or charm and charisma, plus his brilliant comedic timing. And even in his role in The Wild Geese, a more serious role, his quick wit shone through. A true gentleman. A great loss.
Just watched this 1995 interview for the first time. What an amazing career and life Sir Roger had. All the many comments from his son, Tony Curtis, Lewis Gilbert, David Niven's son, Jackie Collins, Maud Adams, and Michael Caine were spot on and very accurately described his carrier, and most importantly....him, the person. The humor and quick wit that he used to avoid scrapes as a kid served him very well as an actor. The Bond scripts were tailored for his lighter comedic slant on playing the character. Sir Roger was certainly a class act too, as he mentioned in several interviews that he thought that Daniel Craig was a fantastic Bond. For me, "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "For Your Eyes Only" represented some of Sir Roger's best work as 007. Bond fans, (and the world), were very fortunate to have Roger Moore as an actor and humanitarian. He'll be sorely missed.
💯 whole in agreement Sire, today’s misfits (lots of them) can’t hold a candle to Sir Roger, he’s one of my top 2 favorite actors, moreover a wonderful human being in every respect.
James Henderson you troll you have literally replied to almost every comment on multiple roger Moore video’s, surprise us with some actual facts, now you do know there are over 160 movies made in South Africa across the apartheid period 1940’s to the mid 90’s.... heck whoopi Goldberg was even in one whilst apartheid was active. Now you surely couldn’t be suggesting because he was in a shit movie with lee Marvin in the 70’s that he somehow funds apartheid ?? Maybe you should look at his achievements in unicef across Africa, and for the rest of the world, he has put more money back into grass root African causes alone, than any movie pays to shoot there, let alone other poverty ridden places around the world. He got a lifetime achievement award for it, and a knighthood.. Done much yourself ???
James Henderson grow up and quit acting like you know so much when can tell you clearly dislike Roger Moore and other celebrities based on your many posts and just trying to get attention when all you do sit on your ass on RUclips all day.
what a lovely man and so talented yet so modest. His work for UNICEF brought a tear to my eye, Englishmen do cry lol. my favourite Bond. I grew up in the Brosnan era yet gravitated to Roger Moore as Bond. Saturday afternoon spent watching Moore era Bond films eating fish fingers, chips and beans! lol probably still would enjoy that now and I'm 31 lol. thanks for the memories Roger. RIP.
I can only relate Roger Moore with one great role, the famous Simon Templar.I used to watch the saint on a neighbours telly, It was only a black & white. but what a show.
If The Persuaders had not been canceled after just one season, then quite possibly, Roger would never have played Bond. The series was supposed to go for several years but because it didn't do well in America (it's main target market), it was canceled early which allowed Roger to accept the role of Bond. Something similar would happen to Pierce Brosnan more than 10 years later.
I grew up with Roger as Bond. Live and Let Die was the first Bond I ever saw at the age of 8 and I have never forgotten it. Being a bit of joker myself I loved Rogers take on the role. He plays humor better than any other Bond. And his polish was right for the role. I have wonderful memories of seeing my first Bond with LALD.
roquefortfiles I lived in the era of the Bond summer reruns on TV. Naturally, Sir Roger was a big part of that. Taped The Spy Who Loved Me and watched it over and over. The sequence where he and Barbara Bach are trying to escape Richard Kiel in a car in Egypt, where he's cracking a joke every two seconds, is the essence of his Bond.
I was a kid come home dusty from late evening soccer (6 to 8), running from the football pitch (a patch of moonscape ground) all the way home, super excited to be watching the man with the ring over his head in The Saint, black and white, unfailingly every week, putting all the world in order with his incomparable charm and winning fists accompanied by beautiful ladies. What more could a 10 year old ask for?
Thank you for the collection of stories about many of these classy actors! Born in 63, grew up and enjoy many of these actors from the past, when Hollywood was good!!!
very sad day ,Rest in peace Rodger , your are a true legend and inspiration to us all , a great man and a great actor and role model on and off the screen , you will be sorely missed
You were always my favorite Bond. I know, I know, others will disagree and they are all great but you were my personal favorite. You were so debonair, so classy, crazy talented. Thanks for the artistry you leave behind. The world was made a more interesting place with your presence. May God bless you for your humanity and generosity. RIP Sir Moore.
Always loved his acting style. This is the first time that I have seen pictures of him as a young man and he was a very good looking young man. Not so surprising that he became what he became. I believe that he had an amazing life and how could anyone hope for more in the short time that we are here.
one of my favorite bonds Sir Roger Moore, his bond had style ,every actor who play that role gave it his own .R.I.P.from his ealy days on film and tv,he will never be forgotten.
Roger Moore was born with good looks and manners.much respected ❤ Genuine gentlemen with respect for others and manners are a rare species and these gentleman are not controlling being narcissistic! !
May have been born upper working class...but certainly "oozed" upper class. Grew up seeing Saint, Persuaders 007..feel a bit of my happy childhood has dissapearred with him departing. RIP Sir Roger...and thank you
Thank you my friend for this Tribute to Sir Roger Moore he was allways my most liked actor he never got himself in trouble with the press as yanks did. allways liked him and morn his death God Bless Him.
Excellent documentary about a truly wonderful man. Inspirational, charismatic, modest, generous and in every possible way a role model both as an extremely talented actor and as a lovely, kind hearted, gentle person. The world is a poorer place without him.
My favourite Bond - A View To A Kill. Didn't hurt that Duran Duran did the theme song either. He was a movie star of the old school that kissed the ladies in such a way as to make them swoon. You just don't see that now.
The spy who loved me, was Rogers best Bond film, I also enjoyed his role in The wild Geese. I think Roger was the quintessential English gentleman, he was a true one off. RIP Sir Roger Moore, miss your charm, charisma and unique character. 👍
My favorite Bond, James Bond.... Sir Roger Moore, by far the best, in my opinion. Sauve, debuanaire, gentleman spy extraordinaire. Shaken, not stirred!!
Roger is the last of the great English gentleman actors. What a humorously funny man he is. His bond was by far the most entertaining as it was out of this world fantasy like. Today's bonds are action like any action film but you don't go back and watch time and time again like Roger or Sean's films... Look how colourful Rogers bond films are compared with today's dark seriously moody affairs. Bring back the bond fantasy! That's what made them so special.
He was one of the best bonds if not the best.i last enjoyed bod movies at the actor pierce bronsnan.I wish the bond franchise gets a new suitable actor for the present and the next years to come.
Good point, but our times are somewhat dreary now and Craig's films reflect that a bit. In 1983, on The Tonight Show, Connery told Carson that the Bond franchise is kind of a "newspaper" that over the years would reflect what was going on. He was correct. Personally, I miss the scenes in which Bond shows his wine and culinary knowledge. Several examples exist, but only in the Connery and Moore Bond films. These "moments" showed a "cultured" Bond to a certain degree and set him apart from all other action-adventure films. For me, Sir Roger"s best Bond films were "The Spy Who Loved Me", and "For Your Eyes Only". Terrific Bond movies.
Mike Thomas Thanks for the question sir. Two problems with Jackman, he may be too closely associated with his "Wolverine" character, and he may not be young enough for a multi-picture deal that EON has traditionally offered to actors who have played Bond. Plus it's hard to say if Jackman would be "all in" for a long tenure as 007. With breaking news yesterday as the cast and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson answered questions at GoldenEye in Jamaica, I'm not too concerned about who's going to be portraying Bond after Craig's supposed last Bond film. If "Bond 25" will be his final performance then the casting process will presumingly occur AFTER it's release in April of 2020. The perfect actor for the role may be a total unknown presently and it's just too early to make any accurate predictions.
Growing up, loved Roger as clever Beau Maverick, and the Saint. In college bicycled 6miles each way to see Live and Let Die, delightful with humor and courage.
I was born in december 82 and even as a child i recognized his charme, his ironic side and his attention didn‘t want to play a cold blooded spy. I loved ‚for your eyes only‘, the lotus, the scenes in Cortina and so on. I always will remember him as my ‚childhood‘ Bond and i‘m very thankful for that! Mr. Moore, you had been a class of it‘s own! Ruhe in Frieden Kind regards from Germany ❤
Have to agree with you. When I first saw him in the 70s (I was in middle school at the time) I could not believe any man could look that good. When I found out he was in his early 50s during the filming of Moonraker I said damn, if I look half that good when I'm his age.
His tongue-in-cheek humor was really right for the times. If you watch "Diamonds Are Forever" again, you'll see clearly that the series was headed towards that sort of humor. Moore just helped carry it forward
@@cinbur4362 He has a point. Sean Connery was in his early 30's when he took over the Bond role and around 40 when he quit it. Roger Moore on the other hand was already around 45 when he first played Bond. That's a shade old to be such a dynamic and physical character as Bond. Though in saying that I enjoyed the Bond films of Roger Moore.
Sir Roger Moore, The Saint , The Persuaders and Bond ! Nobody could have done it better ! Smart, classy handsome and natural. Bond today is just fiction and fake stunts, nothing compared to the earlier bond films
Great reminiscences by Roger Moore himself, which gives an authentic touch to this bio. Michael Caine adding a few personal bonmots ( don't worry Michael, we will always remember you as Harry Lime). Personally, Roger's standout quality, in the class of Gary Cooper and Jimmy Stewart, was his immense personal integrity. Also, I never realised before, that he had a butt chin, which is supposed to be a lucky facial feature, to all those who possess it. This show, also features an early cameo appearance of Julie Christie in "The Saint" which I have never seen before.

(My Bondian name for him, since I feel as a man who radiates humility, he was the best Bond in spirit) My prayers go out to you on this sad yet ultimately uplifting day since I feel sure the Saint is where he deserves to be. Thank you for being his stand in. Love Always!
LPp
roger gerhardt Thank you for sharing that Roger. I would have loved to have met him!
Very cool
RG you must have been the appetizer, to the main course, yumm
Out of all the Bond's, my favorite was, is and will remain Roger Moore! Handsome, Charming, humble and confident. What a legend!!
He was a racist.
Roger Moore is just plain great in any role he does. He is the best Bond!
I sat next to and spoke to Roger Moore on aircraft a couple of times from Switzerland to London.
Very nice man and very interesting to talk to - very sad he is gone
One of the MOST genuine, REAL Actors ever to grace grace ALL our lives. R.I.P. Roger... We shall ALL miss you!
I was very young when I saw The Spy Who Loved Me with my cousins family and I think no other actor can replicate Sir Roger Moore as a James Bond.
Sir Roger is a national treasure. What a nice man too.
RIP.
he was and still is my favourite bond , james bond.
I'm from the late 90's. But Roger was my Bond. My dad would show me his movies all the time, and The Saint :)
I can only relate Roger Moore with one great role, the famous Simon Templar.I used to watch the saint on a neighbours telly, It was only a black & white. but what a show.
The Saint and The Persuaders were two of the best TV series
The AVENGERS was my favorite
Sorry , but I cut my teeth on "IVANHOE" and I still think he's gorgeous.
Very true ,as i used to watch them in the 70s 😊
Grandma and me loved to watch The Persuaders. RIP Roger Moore and grandma.
A truly great and kind man, two qualities that seldom go together.
I have enjoyed watching him on tv all my life. He was a real class act.
The Saint
Fine actor and wonderful human. A great Bond with unrivalled charm and wit. Nobody does it better. RIP. ❤️
A true gentleman who brought a unique onscreen presence few can ever match. RIP
RIP Roger. The whole world misses you man.
Thank you for this opportunity to get to know Roger Moore. In 1974 Roger Moore and Christopher Lee were adversaries, and they we're friends from 1947.
This deserves 5 thumbs ups. Unfortunately I only can give one
Very nice documentary about a very nice guy. RIP Roger.
Rip to one of my idols God bless you and thank you for all the wonderful memories of my childhood growing up watching your movies!!!!
Best Bond ever. Fun & talented, really missed & never took himself seriously, best in The Man Who Haunted Himself, pure class.
RIP Roger Moore. The Bond I remember as a kid.
Handsome witty and charming never taking himself too seriously RIP Sir Roger
Much loved, much missed & a true man in every sense of the word. The world gets darker & sadder as these bright stars fade from view.....
Sorry to hear that you pass away today.
Rest in peace, Sir.
From Bond Fan from Thailand.
Techit Benjakul Greetings to you sir from Thailand from Scooby in the USA! 😀🌈💗
Humourous, humble and charming in a good old fashioned English way, and my favourite Bond in ' Live and let Die ' , RIP Roger
My favourite Bond - A View To A Kill. Didn't hurt that Duran Duran did the theme song either. He was a movie star of the old school that kissed the ladies in such a way as to make them swoon. You just don't see that now.
All 7 bond movie Sir Roger Moore is my favrite Actor
When Gregory Fucking Peck praises your acting, you’re a great actor! Wow!
saw The Spy who loved me in 1977, for me the best bond movie one smooth dude. RIP
Sir Roger Moore, a classy, elegant, intelligent, caring, and dignified gentleman. He was, and is, one of a kind.
The spy who loved me, was Rogers best Bond film, I also enjoyed his role in The wild Geese. I think Roger was the quintessential English gentleman, he was a true one off. RIP Sir Roger Moore, miss your charm, charisma and unique character. 👍
He was the most charming Bond ever! The man was truly a legend. 💯👍🏻
@@marksieve7734 How about Hugh Jackman?! Don't quote me,but I think he's the next Bond, but don't believe the rumors.
Absolutely. The Sean Connery/Roger Moore eras are so much better. Daniel Craig's Bond films are dull and Craig is a miserable so and so in real life.
The most classy actor EVER....
A really lovely gentleman in the truest sense of the word
What a great man. I hd the wonderful pleasure of seeing his audience with.. a couple of years ago. Roger Moore, best Bond ever! May he rest in peace.
Legends never die.
Growing up, loved Roger as clever Beau Maverick, and the Saint. In college bicycled 6miles each way to see Live and Let Die, delightful with humor and courage.
Thanks for leaving us Something Timeless!!!
Sir Roger Moore.
Sir Roger, Nobody Does It Better
I miss you Roger Moore. Someday we will meet again in the "next room". You were my hero all my life. The best. Nancy
Ruhe in Frieden
Kind regards from Germany
❤
For me, Roger Moore was the authentic James Bond. He was almost too handsome to be real.
Have to agree with you. When I first saw him in the 70s (I was in middle school at the time) I could not believe any man could look that good. When I found out he was in his early 50s during the filming of Moonraker I said damn, if I look half that good when I'm his age.
Roger was great but for me, Sean Connery.
James Henderson, not.
Not just a great actor, but a great man.
Roger Moore foi como um meteoro que iluminou tudo por onde passou ... Roger, que bom que você existiu !
I am so delighted to hear Roger acknowledge that he could not run. He was hopeless when running :-). Refreshing. As always. Thanks Roger...
Roger Moore was THE Bond. Feel very fortunate to have watched his movies as a kid and teenager in the 70s and 80’s #shakennotstirred 🤵 🍸 😉 RIP
He really put in the hard work every time he was on set.
Sir Roger Moore, The Saint , The Persuaders and Bond ! Nobody could have done it better ! Smart, classy handsome and natural.
Bond today is just fiction and fake stunts, nothing compared to the earlier bond films
Kash Farouk The theme song from The Spy Who Loved Me quite nicely portrayed the late great Sir Roger Moore - Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon.
Daniel Craig’s movies are so fucking boring!
@@southlondon86 Are you surprissed? For my person, he wasn't Bond. It fit's not for him, beside he's a great actor. But he was not Bond...
Great Great Great a wonderful man and actor...... R. I. P.
RIP Roger.. Best Bond of all time
