Oh so many worthy actors and actresses made for so many worthy movies to watch. Immorality has killed Hollywood

Hi Rebecca, he’s not my generation but even but even when i was child i was fascinated when i watched a movie with him, so straight, so strong and so sweet at the same time 👍
I'm not from the generation that grew up watching Cooper's films, but I have to say he puts most of today's leading men to shame. He was an original and the product of a very specific upbringing (growing up on a ranch in Montana when it was one of the last frontiers in America, going to boarding school in Britain, and aspiring to be an artist before he became an actor). That's one of the many reasons why I don't think we'll ever see anyone like him again. Also, even though there were many legendary leading men in his era, he still stood out with his rare and timeless beauty that was incredibly modern for someone who was born 120 years ago, stunning screen presence, iconic sartorial style, and authenticity.

Thank you for sharing this documentary 🙏 just been introduced to Gary Cooper, not heard of him before just searched the quiet strong personality and he came up from a sopranos quote 🙂 as I relate to that sort of character in real life so it’s nice to see someone in Hollywood existed like that for us quiet men who compete in this extroverted world. Representation goes a long way as quiet people tend to be misinterpreted as cold but some of us are actually decent we just take longer to come out of our shells🙂 Excellent starting point for me on him and getting a sense of how he was as a human being, sounds like he was such a true gentleman and kind 🙂 perfect lesson for my generation to learn as a youngster (28)
I rediscovered Gary Cooper after watching The Fountainhead recently. I found him so appealing that I've since watched every movie I could find. I love his looks but even more his easy way of inhabiting every character he portrayed. I saw Friendly Persuasion and Love In The Afternoon when I was in high school. His charm, sensuality and tenderness has left a much deeper impact now that I've lived through many decades. Of all the actors from yesteryear it's Gary Cooper whom I find the most appealing.
A very sensitive and beautiful documentation. I've always liked and loved Gary Cooper. 🙂❤️ And what a wonderful human being his daughter is. I like her very much too. Writing this here from Germany.
He was one of the greatest actors during his time. He had that eye catching look. He looked so handsome in his clothes. I enjoyed the film he and Pat Neil made together. There were other films I like too.

One of the definitive three Kings of Hollywood.Gary Cooper born in 1901 and died in 1961.The other two were Clark Gable and John Wayne. Cooper won his Oscar for "High Noon" and also an honorary Oscar.

Gary Cooper was a gentleman, kind, polite, unassuming, and it showed through his acting. That is why his fans couldn't accept him as the bad guy. He was simply to good a person to be convincing enough to be bad. He played all his good guy roles to perfection...great actor, great man, great American.

Gary Cooper was one of those people for whom the expression 'they don't make 'em like that any more' was written. He split with his wife for a couple of years which wasn't good but she seems to have been quite philosophical about it and in the end the 'other woman' Patricia Neal 'did the decent thing'. He appears to have been loved and respected by everybody both on and off the set and he was an anathema to Hollywood in that he wasn't smug, selfish, egotistic or rude but was generous, quiet, well-mannered and kind. A measure of his 'honesty' and easy-going attitude was shown by his very good friendship with Ernest Hemingway because politically they were 'poles apart'.
@patrick williams: I agree. His affair with Patricia Neal nearly broke up his marriage, but I have to say it's very touching to hear an elderly Neal speak so eloquently about Cooper in this documentary, and I'm glad she got to talk about him on camera before she died in 2010. She called him "the beauty of the world" and the love of her life. That's extraordinary considering that he was married and she went on to marry Roald Dahl and have 5 children with him. Cooper's wife and daughter eventually made peace with Neal and met with her, so it sounds like they handled the situation very maturely.
Gary Cooper was maybe the greatest star in the history of movies, Joel McCrea, Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda, and yes Cary Grant we're at one time or another to be his replacement but it never happened watch how their careers got started they were to be the next Gary Cooper. It didn't work out this way and I enjoy watching all the other stars too. 7:00 7:00
Coop was fascinating. It seems that he didn't act and everything looks totally natural. Everyone who ever tried acting knows how difficult it is to leave that impression.
He was one of the first ones who put himself into the role when at the time most were relying on the habits of bunny rabbits....he believed in himself.
Gary Cooper quote: As Shakespeare said-- all the world's a stage. It wasn't that way when I first got into the movies in 1924, but it is now. That's why I find Hollywood newer and more exciting every day. It's still a place where a kid from Montana can jump on a horse, ride that-a-way and keep right on going.
Definitely the strong, silent , and gentle type..He had a special ability with acting..he didn't have to try ..it just came naturally..One in a million..So very handsome,,,He definitely had that "Star quality". Gone too soon..
Gary Cooper was a great guy who personified everything that was good in America.... patriotic, decent, good looking, a great actor without any airs, down to earth. What a contrast to present day Hollywood!!!!!!!!!!!!
@friendl hi she really loved him he wanted to keep the affair between them and stay married to his wife, she wanted to start a family and expected him to divorce his wife he refused.
They don't make movies the way they use to. They made wonderful moves without sex scenes and no swearing. Good wholesome movies. Gary Cooper was a talented actor. Just loved his movies.

What I liked the most about "The Coop," is how he always made acting look so EASY. Well, folks, it ain't so easy. But he could say it all with a simple, "Yup." My favorite early Cooper film was "Sargeant York," because it epitomized his silent strength so well. In his later career, it was a sweet film that is still one of my favorites, "Friendly Persuasion," about a Quaker family during the Civil War who has to decide to either follow the dictates of their religion, or the stirrings of their hearts. If you enjoy movies from a "gentler" time, movies with heart, catch it. It's important.

It is so true what they said at the end of this video: “There are no more Gary Cooper and Frank Capra,”. They are definitely gone. So very sad about that.
We are too cynical for people like Gary Cooper and Frank Capra these days. If a young actor who looked like Gary Cooper arrived in Hollywood today, he would be told by the studios to hit the gym, bulk up, and get ready to appear in the next superhero movie.
I first became aware of Gary Cooper as a child in the early 50's when he starred in High Noon. I really understood the action portrayed as he walked down that street all alone with all those conflicting emotions flickering across his face. Of course at the time to me it was for real but later I realized how talented his acting was - perhaps because he started in silent films?

Representation goes a long way as quiet people tend to be misinterpreted as cold but some of us are actually decent we just take longer to come out of our shells🙂
Excellent starting point for me on him and getting a sense of how he was as a human being, sounds like he was such a true gentleman and kind 🙂 perfect lesson for my generation to learn as a youngster (28)
HIM, AND JOHN WAYNE FOREVER...^-^...
@@kathrynejones2590 yup you can't go wrong with a John Wayne movie or Robert Taylor
What a joy to see George C. Scott talking about Coop. Two greats.
I read that 5 feet 2 inches tall Lupe Velez used to kick the crap out of him.
@@hectorsalcido4106 That woman was a savage, vulgar little piece of human. Gary was too good for her.
Gary Cooper ist unvergessen.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I've always been in love with Gary Cooper, since I was young.
" Sargent York " He Was Born to Play That Part , One of My All Time Favorite Movies , RIP Coop
"Sargent York" among my favorite movies.
Mine too. Sgt. York was awsome.
"The Naked Edge" Truely excellent film. Worth watching folks...A young film makers guide in doing it right.
Tampy: Gary Cooper, I am not the only one who fell in love with Gary . When he appeared on screen, we all felt we knew him. I know it's crazy ..even my husband understood & smiled..
One truly more personal insight Gary Cooper life.
One of the definitive three Kings of Hollywood.Gary Cooper born in 1901 and died in 1961.The other two were Clark Gable and John Wayne.
Cooper won his Oscar for "High Noon" and also an honorary Oscar.
I hear Ya , But Didn't Coop Win an Oscar for Sgt. York Also ?
@@roygonzalez4367 yes, he won for York also, but my favorite was The Hanging Tree. He was dying when he made that movie, but to me he was beautiful. He was always beautiful. Greetings from beautiful Montana. I will always love them both Coop and Montana. He was sixty when he died, and I'm 80 this year. I wish he hadn't smoked. That's what killed my dad, too, at 51. Life can be too short, but at 80, for me, it's kind of too long. I can't wait to meet Coop in the heavenly realm. To just look in his eyes and hear his voice. I loved him when I was 12, and I love him still. Had he lived, he would be 120 years old. Thank you Coop, so very much
I would take Gary over Wayne or Gable.
Yes I did miss out on Coop winning another Oscar for "Sarjent York".
He be an icon of his own, He was so classic so beautiful a man. He a true hero!
Really admired Mr. Gary Cooper!! He was such a national treasure!!! ❤🤠
Gary Cooper was a gentleman, kind, polite, unassuming, and it showed through his acting. That is why his fans couldn't accept him as the bad guy. He was simply to good a person to be convincing enough to be bad. He played all his good guy roles to perfection...great actor, great man, great American.
Dee Marie Dubois you seem to forget that he cheated on his wife on numerous occasions, one of them was the great actress Patricia Neal. So please let’s not make him an angel, granted he was a quiet guy, unassuming and private but he was also a man with roving eyes!

What a lovely daughter he left us with !
He was always my favorite. A man of great principle.
Hold on! Cooper was a complete philanderer who boasted he had bedded every female lead he starred with.
I agree. Didn't Lee Strasberg say that Cooper was a natural Method actor, but he just didn't know it?
Spencer Tracy
One of my favorites was when he played Lou Gehrig, at the time I thought he might be the same guy as Gehrig was a humble man.
@@isaacmagee2536bunny rabbits?
No one said "Yep" like Coop! Women loved him!
@
Definitely the strong, silent , and gentle type..He had a special ability with acting..he didn't have to try ..it just came naturally..One in a million..So very handsome,,,He definitely had that "Star quality". Gone too soon..
Gary Cooper was a great guy who personified everything that was good in America.... patriotic, decent, good looking, a great actor without any airs, down to earth. What a contrast to present day Hollywood!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gary Cooper was magical and his daughter is truly beautiful and intelligent. Thanks for this great posting.

An incredible man in talent and soul.
Hello Toni
My favourite Gary Cooper movies; Sgt. York and For Whom the Bells Tolls.
These documentaries are fascinating, love the golden age.
Having seen Gary Cooper many times during my child hood and always in cowboy movies.
